Don't worry he's still around, he's still okay and we're going to be seeing more of him very soon. (Not just this chapter) And I was right, in the next chapter there's going to be a heart to heart with two of characters that you probably wouldn't ever think would have a heart to heart with one another, and an agreement is going to be made! So isn't that something to look forward to? As always, don't forget to review and I'll see you guys tomorrow!

Chapter 307

Conejo came back to the safe house he was sharing with Wo Fat after his last job, feeling pretty good with himself. He found the man drinking his scotch and typing away at the computer as if he had a normal office job.

He looked up, took in Conejo's blood spattered appearance and asked: "Is that yours or the other guys?"

Conejo looked down. "Other guy's," he said. "Well… most of it. I think I got nicked again but I'll live. What are you doing?"

"Got a call from McGarrett today…"

Conejo straightened immediately. A week ago, Wo Fat had been pulled to Hawaii by Rowan. Not because she was in danger but because Wo Fat had girl problems and called her. It was the first time she had picked up a call from one of them, the first time that he had seen her in a month. They had had a long talk about Wo Fat's girl problems, her problems with Steven, and how a serial killer had broken into her house while she and the kid were inside.

Conejo had been forced to put aside his bitterness and annoyance that he had not been pulled down to Hawaii as well to see Rowan, and had acknowledged that her problems with Steven and the serial killer were a bit more important. Which was true, but he was still being petty about being left out. He had wanted to see how Rowan was doing too.

But Steven McGarrett actually calling Wo Fat… now that was something else entirely.

Conejo kept his cool though. "What's going on?" he asked as casually as he could. He figured if it was a real emergency, Wo Fat wouldn't be just typing away calmly on a computer. But Wo Fat had also been through so many emergencies with Rowan that he was kind of desensitized to them now. "Is she okay?"

"She's fine. He uh… he called me about the serial killer."

"Yeah? What did he say? Did the guy make another move?"

"No, they're in the waiting period," Wo Fat said absently. "He uh… he thinks that the chess piece in the house was a threat. Against Rowan and the kid. He doesn't have the resources to watch her…"

"And she'd kill him if he set up someone to tail her," Conejo added and Wo Fat nodded. "He's asked you to do it, right?"

"Yep, he wanted to know if I'd send people to watch her for him."

"And you said yes."

Wo Fat looked up to him, his face placid. "And what would you have rather I done?"

"Well Rowan isn't speaking to us, and McGarrett thinks the new her is a problem. What you should have done was tell him to send Rowan off island."

"I did but he doesn't trust us to take her and give her back."

Conejo sighed but he got it, he got where Steve was coming from.

"I'd rather have one of my guys on her than have something happen because Steven's at work and I felt like being petty."

That was true too. "Right and do you have someone in mind?" Wo Fat's face went from placid to a happy smile and Conejo half laughed. "It's me, isn't it? You want to send me?"

"Well you were upset that I went to Hawaii and didn't take you with me."

"Yeah, I wanted to see Rowan. Like actually talk to her and see how she's doing. Not sit in the shadows watching her like some stalker."

Wo Fat shook his head. "Fine, I'll send someone else."

"For god sake, I'll go. Obviously, I'll go. We both know I'm the best for the job." Wo Fat turned his face back to the computer reaching absently for his drink. "What are you going to do without me?"

It was a silly question, but Rowan had been clear before the truth had come out. Both of them were her brothers now. Which meant that they were brothers to each other. Con had told her that was stupid, but when the opportunity came to leave… Con found that he couldn't. Rowan was right, they were all family now, Wo Fat like an older brother, and Con didn't want to leave him on his own, even if it was to help Rowan with something.

Wo Fat scoffed and shot him a scowl. "I will be fine. Contrary to popular belief I was functioning quite well before I met either you or Rowan Pierce."

"From what I heard Steven had arrested you twice."

"And I got away both times," he snapped. "And one of those arrests was while I was with Rowan, thank you very much."

"Fine, so you'll be okay. What about you and the girl? Say what you want, but I can tell you're still upset about the girl."

"Her name is Jian, I keep telling you her name is Jian. You can remember all of Rowan's guys why can't you remember her?"

"Jian, whatever, what are you doing about getting back together with her?" When Wo Fat merely shrugged Conejo huffed at him. "Rowan gave you permission to tell her that you and her were done for the time being, why haven't you gotten on that?"

"I suppose because I'm not sure that if I'm going to act on that permission yet," he said going for his glass. He swirled what was left of the scotch with the ice. "As much as I like Jian and I'm certain there's a future there, I know for a fact that I love my sister and she would never do that to me."

"Wasn't the whole thing that started last year's lies the fact that she was going to drop you for Steven?"

Wo Fat sighed. But that had just been talk. Talk from a girl who had been high at the time. They'd never know now if she would have gone through with it once sober. Wo Fat hadn't given her a chance.

"Would you do it?" Wo Fat suddenly asked. "If a girl told you, Rowan or her, would you pick her over Rowan?"

No, he wouldn't. Rowan was a nonnegotiable part of his life now and he wasn't ever going to get over the loss of his previous family. So there wouldn't ever be a girl he wanted to stick around with long enough for that to be a problem. Any girl could say that to him and he'd laugh them out the damn door. But he was also sick of Wo Fat moping over this doctor girl of his. This was the man who took all of six seconds to decide that he was going to go on the run with his sister knowing full well he'd have McGarrett after him for life. Where was that decisiveness now?

"She's not talking to you right now anyway, might as well capitalize on it," he said. "Look, I'm not gonna leave you here alone to sulk. Depression is a killer, you may not do it to yourself, but I can't have your mind clouded when I'm not here to back you up. So, here, I have an idea to get you two back together, and you probably won't have to apologize."

"Oh! Not apologize? I'd like that. Hit me with it!"

"I just need you to stand up," he said crossing to Wo Fat. The man stood up without question as Conejo offered him a hand. There was a bit suspicion in his eyes but he took the offered hand, also without question.

Conejo pulled Wo Fat in for a hug, slipping the knife from his pocket. Then, when Wo Fat was least suspecting it, he stabbed him.

Jian Hui was greatly contemplating changing the location of her practice. Though she was no longer a Yakuza doctor, the people from that world that were used to coming to her had not been made aware and continued to appear. As a result, she had started closing her practice earlier and screening her calls.

She had changed her number, and her office's number to avoid those people, and most of the time it worked, but she still got those walk ins that demanded her care.

And, being the bleeding heart that she was, she had a really hard time turning away someone in desperate need of help. Even if they were criminals, and even if they hit on her. Which was all the time.

So that afternoon, when she heard the back door open and close, she knew that this was going to be another one of those cases. She went towards the back-examination room to find a Hispanic looking man dropping a body to the floor. A body she recognized.

"Oh my god, oh my god," she cried dropping to Wo Fat's side.

The Hispanic man just smiled at him as if this were all a game. "He's your problem now," was all he said and then just like that he had slammed the door shut and disappeared.

Jian held onto Wo Fat who was gritting his teeth against the pain. She rolled him over to look at the damage, it was a butterfly knife, unfolded and embedded in his shoulder all the way down to the hilt.

"He fucking stabbed me, I'm gonna fucking kill him!" Wo Fat nearly shouted. Then screeched the name: "CON!"

Now that was odd. Wo Fat getting hurt wasn't uncommon, but it had never been something like this. Slices yes, but a full on embedding? Had must have not been expecting it, because that was the only way that man could have ever gotten close enough.

"Did you know that man?"

"Yes," he snapped, struggling to get up to his feet. Jian's hands barely left his side. He lurched for the cabinets, finding the hidden minifridge effortlessly. "He's Rowan's bodyguard. We're supposed to be friends…"

"Why did he stab you?"

"Not sure," he said as he pulled out the bottle of scotch she kept for him and him alone. He didn't even pour a glass, he got it uncorked and drank straight from the bottle. "But let me tell you, when I see him next, he and I are going to have words!"

Words… just words? He wasn't going to stab him back? What kind of friend stabs another?

"Okay, just… just come here please. Come to the table I need to have a look at that," she said but he slapped her hands away to drink some more.

"Nonsense, you don't want to deal with this. You're not even on the payroll," he said he went to stand and a wince crossed his features as his spare hand went to where the knife was still imbedded in him.

Yeah there was no way she was just going to let him leave. "Don't be stupid, let me help you, Wo."

Good thing he was drinking because it was effortless to guide him to the table. She had to cut up his suit and his shirt, which made him groan, so she could get his clothes off of him to look at the wound. Why did the sight of his bared chest still make her mouth run dry?

"Alright, well, I won't know for sure what's going on until I take it out," she said to him. He answered her by simply taking another swig from the bottle. Once he had swallowed she yanked it out. The poor man had to bite back his cry of pain.

"Lie down so I can clean you up."

And she would have to because he was leaking blood everywhere. She'd have to stitch him up and hope to god that nothing was nicked in there. She handed him a wad of bandages, put them in his spare hand and then guided it to his injured shoulder.

"Keep pressure on that, I'm just gonna get everything sorted."

She turned her back on him to get her tools and antiseptic. She was putting aside everything she was going to need when…

"I missed you every day, you know."

Jian stopped everything she was doing and turned back to him. He was just lying there, eyes staring at the ceiling, bottle mostly drunk and hanging from his fingertips. She forced herself to turn her back on him and get her tools ready.

"But you never reached out."

"I… I didn't think I could," he said. He paused, finished off the bottle of scotch and then dropped it to the floor. "I ended things badly and I knew that and even if you did accept my apology or explanation, I thought that any message to you would have been intercepted by Steven."

"He was quite intent on getting her back, however did you managed to keep the two of them separated for as long as you did?"

"I told a lot of lies. Mostly to her but to Steven as well."

"I suppose that didn't end well when she figured it out."

She turned back with the antiseptic and the needles. He turned to look at her, a soft look on his face, and a smile.

"She's not talking to me anymore… again," he said and then the shaking started. His version of crying, a sort of quake that shook his whole body.. "I lost my sister and you and I'm not used to be alone anymore. I hate being lonely. I was never lonely before I met her."

Oh her poor Wo, cut out by his sister again.

"That's not terribly understanding, but just like last time I'm certain she'll forgive you in time."

She pulled away the bandages to look at his injury and his hand came up to brush against her cheek, no doubt painting her with his blood. "But will you every forgive me?"

She sighed heavily. "I can't lie and say that I don't understand how it happened. I did get to see a bit of the video, the torture video, I don't doubt for a second that her state when you found her was what spurred your decision," she told him and he smiled again. "What I can't quite get over is who she is. I was prepared to look over the fact that she wasn't your blood relative, I could have forgiven that she wasn't the same nationality but you weren't adopted. That white woman just gave you the title of brother only a few short years ago and you accepted it. That is what I have a problem with."

Wo Fat looked away from her. He didn't argue and she figured the conversation over and done with so she began to stitch. A grimace crossed his face but other than that he didn't say anything.

"How did you meet her?" she asked, figuring it at least a good idea to keep him distracted.

Wo Fat thought it over a moment before saying: "On one of her runners from Steven. She got uh… taken by pirates, I think. They were torturing her then too. She jumped off a boat and swam to shore where I found her. When I found her, she was waterlogged and starved very clearly unwell and… I suppose I felt a little bit like she needed me."

"I suppose she did. And then you kidnapped her?"

"Well Rowan always wants to go back to Steven, so, even though I was taking care of her, and he had told her to get out of his life, she left me to return to him. I, of course, had no idea that Rowan was with him so when I found out that she was with Five-0 and Steven McGarrett, my ultimate nemesis, I took her to make him cave and well… I got myself attached." He turned to watch her stitch his shoulder. "She grows on you, you know? She's like that. She's super kind and super sweet and very loyal."

"It sounds like you're describing a dog."

"Well she does jump on you to hug you when you come home," he said.

She sounded like the complete package. A sweet, kind, beautiful and loyal girl. Always happy to see you, always on your side. Why whatever could Jian offer him that could top that?

"It sounds silly. I know that. But I've always wanted a family and she… she gave me that," he whispered and her heart shattered a bit. She was seeing that little boy who lost his parents, had grown up, on his own, who had no one. And then this sweet, kind, beautiful stranger took one look at him, saw past the damage and the criminal acts and just wanted him. That must have been hard to pass up. "I guess I liked the way she saw me. I wasn't some dangerous criminal to her, I was just… her brother and she loved me and there was nothing I could do to change that. Usually. I might have really fucked us up this time."

Jian finished up stitching him, and began to plaster the sealing bandage onto him.

"I'm sorry that she's abandoned you again," she whispered. Though, now it made sense, how the two of them found one another and came to be the way they were. Wo Fat who wanted a family, and the girl who always needed someone to rescue her.

"It seems my curse is to forever have the women I love abandon me."

Oh she was lumped into that, she knew that. He wouldn't admit he loved her, but she knew she was included in that. She was starting to cave, she could feel it. But there was something about his doe-eyed drunken confessions that was getting to her. And it didn't help that he was still his dapper, handsome, wonderful self.

"Do you have somewhere to stay tonight?"

He draped an arm over his eyes but otherwise said nothing. "Wo," she prompted and he finally jerked awake.

"Sorry, I think I blacked out a bit," he said, he forced himself to sit up and almost toppled over. Jian stood with him and kept him level.

"I think you should come home with me tonight," she said. He hit her with that cocky debonair grin and she cleared her throat. "I want to make sure that the stitches hold and you're not bleeding internally."

He draped himself against her, his lips softly brushing against her neck. Despite herself her arms wound around him to hold him close to her. "Anything you say Jian-chan."

Aww he put cute at the end of her name. That was… well… endearing. He was definitely coming home with her now.

She was still on the fence about forgiving him, but for that moment, for that night, she was going to put all of that aside and hold the man who held her heart to her. For however long it lasted.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

Wo Fat woke up in the morning and he knew exactly where he was.

He was in his old apartment, in his old bed, and if the weight on his chest was any indication, he had Jian Hui curled up to him. Actually, more like half on him. He slowly turned his head to hers and found that he was right, she was there, an arm across his chest and her hand resting upon his injured shoulder.

Damn that was starting to hurt. That rat bastard was dead when Wo Fat got his hands on him again. He looked over to the bedside table and then reached out for the phone she must have taken out of his pocket.

He looked it over, there was a single message from Sandy saying that Conejo was on route to Hawaii. Well at least Rowan was going to be taken care of. He sent Conejo a single text: You're dead. So that when he turned his phone back on, he could see that Wo Fat was both okay and very, very angry.

He then dropped it back on the bedside table and lounged back in the bed. He wasn't sure how the hell he got here but he wasn't about to disrupt it now. He knew it would come to an end when Jian woke up, but until then he could pretend that everything was fixed and he got at least one of his girl's back.

Despite the bad arm he found himself clutching her tightly to him and she nuzzled into him.

This was all he wanted, someone all his own, to hold, to take care of, to… love.

In his arms she stretched before cuddling even closer to him. "Nice to see you're awake, for a moment I was worried you drank yourself to death. It's midday."

Yes it was, wasn't it? He didn't even care. "Did you call in sick today?"

"I did," she murmured to him and then pressed a kiss to his bare chest. "Call me sentimental but I wanted to spend all the time I could with you."

He pressed a kiss to the top of her head and then she squirmed out of his grasp. She sat above him, those silken baby dolls he had bought her forever ago hugging her curves, her cool finger tips travelling to his face.

"I… I thought a lot about what you said last night…"

"Wait, what did I say last night?"

"You told me about Rowan. How you met her, and why you did what you did last year," she said and his heart hammered up into his mouth. Wow he must have been a regular chatterbox last night. "You probably don't remember, would you like a refresher?"

He nodded and she smiled at him. "You told me how you found Rowan starved and tortured and you took her in because you felt she needed you. Then you found out she was with Steven and ransomed her against him and somewhere along the line she grew on you." Okay sounded right so far, but it seemed even drunk he knew not to tell her that Rowan was from an alternate reality and instead had told her Rowan's cover story. "You mentioned how, how you always wanted a family and how she filled that void for you." Well damn why had he told her that. "That you like how she looked at you because she always saw the best in you."

Wo Fat sighed heavily. "I… I don't really tell people that. I don't think I ever told her that either."

"I understand how that feels. I've always dreamed of a family who would love me the way a regular family would. I understand that it must have been intoxicating to find it, even if you were a fully grown adult who should have known better."

Yes, he supposed it was, that was probably exactly how it happened, how he had let someone like Rowan get under his skin. But she was there, she was family now and he knew that Jian was going to tell him to drop her.

"But she doesn't really love you. Not the right way anyway," she said. "She keeps picking Steven over you. And yes, Steven is handsome, but family should always come first. She rarely puts you first."

That wasn't true either. Rowan always put him first, she never once betrayed him to Steven though she could at any point in time. No Rowan had every right to be mad at him. He had shot her, he had promised her not to torture Steven and had done it anyway and for the last year he had lied to her and kept the two of them apart, had gotten her kid taken away from him, had generally derailed everything. No, he understood why she was mad at him right now, and when he called her upset about Jian she had put that anger aside and helped him.

"I am willing to forgive you for last year. I know you only left to protect your sister, and that you didn't reach out to protect me. But if I take you back Wo, Rowan can't be apart of our lives."

And there it was. Wo Fat was at a cross roads. Rowan had said it was fine to tell Jian that he'd cut Rowan out of his life. They weren't talking anyway, it wasn't a full lie. So why did he feel dirty just thinking of saying he'd cut Rowan out of his life. Because he never would do that, that's why.

"Well… she's not a part of it right now," he murmured.

"But you're expecting her to come around." It was a statement not a question.

"I am."

"Fine, then, how about this. I will take you back on a trial basis, and when your sister decides you're good enough to be her brother again we can come back to this and see which one of us you'll pick."

Wo Fat nodded though he was certain he'd pick his sister if he was forced to, he was hoping that he'd be able to convince Jian that both she and Rowan could share his affection.

Instead he nodded to her and let her kiss him. He tried very hard not to feel slimy and it was quite easy to do with her hands wandering all over him.

He'd have to call Rowan when he got a chance, see if she'd talk to him. He'd like to tell her in person what had happened and what he had decided. But first, first he was going to spend the rest of the day in Jian's bed getting reacquainted with her.
