Chapter 324
Thanks to Rowan they had found all the magic tricks imbedded in the house, and then found the guy who bought them and camped out in Marjorie Webb's attic set off all the tricks he had bought to make her house look haunted. They found him dead and then realized that his girlfriend was the one who did it. The girlfriend was Marjorie's assistant, and she had runaway when she was a teenager, her parents had gone to Marjorie for psychic help and Marjorie had told them she was dead. Her poor dad couldn't take it and killed himself. She blamed Marjorie for that and wanted to haunt her. To punish her for lying to her parents.
The plan was to make her go crazy, but her heart was too weak and she died. When her boyfriend, who had helped her with this, found out he wanted to turn them in, but she couldn't let that happen so she killed him.
That meant that she was now facing manslaughter and murder one charges. All because she couldn't take responsibility for her actions. Yes Marjorie had lied, but if she hadn't run away they wouldn't have needed to go to a psychic in the first place.
So, Danny and Steve left her down in the cells waiting for HPD to come get her and they both went upstairs, where they found Rowan on the phone leaning on the smart table. She was still in her costume and she hadn't noticed either of them yet.
"Yeah no I've already called Con, I kind of had to, I dropped a bad guy on him. Either way he's fine and he's down," she said into the phone. "Do you want to come or not? … Okay, when I get there, I'll pull you. Yep, see you soon. Bye."
She was talking void, why was she talking void with Wo Fat? "What's going on?" Steve asked the second she hung up the phone. He went to her and immediately put a hand to her elbow to stop her from using her powers to get away from him. "If this is about the costume, I'll wear it…"
"Wow really?" she asked and then her eyes narrowed in surprise. "Wait… why did you change your mind? What do you think happening right now?"
"You were just calling Wo Fat, you said you'd pull him, and I mean… I know we had a disagreement about the costumes but if I have to wear it so you won't leave…"
"You think I'd leave you over a costume?" she asked with her eyes narrowed and he blinked his eyes, no but he was prone to thinking the worst. "Jesus you must really think I'm a monster."
"No, I just… you said you were going to pull him…"
"Yes. Pull him to me…"
"Yes but… why? Why do you need him?" he asked, the glaring and not me was implied.
"I need Wo Fat and Con for a rescue mission. And well a little bit of a haunting. And if you had given me a chance, I would have told you that I'm here to ask if you two would like to come and either help out or watch."
"Who are we rescuing?" Danny asked but it was Steve who was asking: "Who are you haunting?'
"Well Kono and Adam got abducted by a death cult and they're currently being hunted through the forest and I kinda wanna fuck with guys who took them, and Con and Wo are bored so they're going to use this for target practice but… yeah… do you wanna come?"
Steve and Danny blinked their eyes at her. Kono and Adam were in danger so yes, yes they would want to come, but Rowan wasn't asking them to rescue Kono and Adam, she was inviting them to a game.
What about HPD, and where did Grover and Chin go.
"I sent Grover and Chin to get HPD out to their location. Do you want to come or not?"
"Obviously I wanna come," Steve said, he turned away to look at the cabinets where they held their gear. "So is this a gear up situation…"
But when he turned Rowan wasn't there anymore. He hadn't even felt her leave. "Fuck sake," he snarled to himself.
"Well I unno about you but I'm suiting up," Danny said heading off towards their gear. Steve sighed but did the same. Guess he'd just have to wait to hear from her to find out where they were going next.

Jerry must have spent a half hour fixing his make up before they went out. He took even longer putting the finishing touches on Charlie's costume before he finally deemed himself as ready.
Nahele had shot off a few texts, most to his mom. She said she'd be back but Steve must have kept her longer than she had thought he would. He could have left, could have gone to the party, but Charlie had asked him to stay and how could Nahele say no to that? He was also sort of hoping his mom would come back. Maybe she'd surprise them while they were trick-or-treating.
"Alright, Grace, it's go time. Let's do this." Jerry straightened and then turned to where Grace had appeared having not changed at all. Well Nahele had to guess that she wasn't coming with them. But Jerry didn't seem to get it. "Let me guess. You're going as yourself a year from now? I like it, very meta, but I think you'll score more candy if you wear your costume."
"I'm not coming," she announced and Jerry faltered.
"What? Why not?"
"It's bad enough that I'm missing an epic Halloween party with my friends. There's no way I'm dressing up in some stupid costume begging for candy."
Jerry turned back to Nahele and Charlie and hit them with a quick: "Give me a sec, guys," before approaching Grace.
"Do you know why I love Halloween so much?"
"The chocolate?" she said which caused him to frown. Even she could see that that was kind of insulting because she lowered her eyes with a shrug and said: "Just a guess."
It wasn't an apology but it was about the best he was going to get. "It's because it's the one night a year when you can dress up and act like a kid and no one judges you. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up. There'll be plenty of time for parties, but how many chances are you gonna get to go trick-or-treating with that little guy over there?"
Jerry turned and immediately Charlie was waving his little plastic axe. "Come on, sis," he said.
Even Nahele smiled and said: "Yeah, come on Grace."
Then she turned back to Jerry and snorted. "I'm sorry. I just can't take you seriously in that costume."
"So, you're coming?"
"Still no," she said and Jerry turned away.
"What about Grace?" Charlie asked as Grace shut her door on them.
"Sorry kiddo, she's not coming," he said sadly and Charlie hung his head. Aw come on, who could do that to a little kid?
"Hey, you guys go on without me, I'm gonna hang back for a bit," Nahele said. Charlie turned plaintive eyes up to him and he added: "Don't worry, I'm going to be right behind you."
As soon as they were gone, he went to Grace's room and found her sitting on the bed. He knocked on the door.
"Can I come in?"
She shrugged at him and he came and sat himself down beside her. "Epic party huh? I'm missing my epic party too."
"Yeah, but you get to go," she said. "You could have left at any time."
"That's true, but I promised Charlie I'd trick-or-treat with him, and I guess I'm kinda hoping that Ro will come back so we can go together…"
"Yeah, but after trick-or-treating, you get to go. I don't."
"So, it's just a party," he said with a shrug. "And Jerry's right, I'd rather have this memory with him and Charlie then a foggy memory of some party I got drunk at. Even if my mom doesn't make it back."
He got up off the bed. "I can always go to another party, someone's always having one. But I won't be able to get this night with Charlie and Jerry back. But uh… it'd be nice if you were a part of that memory."
And then he just left it there. He left her room to go and find Charlie and Jerry, maybe he'd mug some children for their candy cause he had a feeling Charlie wasn't going to get very much candy-wise. Instead he texted Ro and asked her to bring some candy for them when she came back.

They were running through the jungle when they heard the shouts of the men following them. Rowan's little door trick must have worn off. They needed to find a phone, they needed to find a way out. They came out of the trees and saw a house.
Rowan had said to avoid the house, but Adam and Dana were already moving towards it and they did need a phone.
Kono called for them to wait but both Adman and Dana had run up to the door and were knocking before Kono got there. Well, she might as well be on board now. A man answered and Kono launched right into it.
"Hi, uh, I'm with Five-0. I need to use your phone. It's an emergency."
The man smiled and ushered them in. "Of course. Right this way." As they walked in he asked them: "Is everything alright?"
No, but they didn't want to scare the man so Adam said: "Will be as soon as we get the police out here."
"It's in the kitchen," he said pointing the way and they all went to the kitchen looking for the phone, except it wasn't there and Rowan's warning whispered dread up her spine.
By the time they turned around the guy had a shotgun on them and they couldn't move. He pulled a cellphone out of his pocket and made a call.
To the people who were chasing them.
God damn it she knew they should have listened to Rowan about the god damn house.
"It's Bobby," he said when whoever he called picked up. "I got 'em. My place. Yeah. See you soon."
And then he hung up. He smiled at them cruelly and Kono contemplated rushing him to get the gun but she didn't have to. Bobby suddenly screamed. He twisted and pitched as he cried out and then he just dropped revealing Rowan, still dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West, her hands out to the side as if she had just been gripping Bobby's back. She turned a dry glare up to them.
"I told you not to go to the house," Rowan said as she moved towards the front door. She opened it up and Wo Fat and Sin Nombre came through, both carrying massive bags. Massive bags that were filled with weapons.
Kono had never thought she'd be happy to see Wo Fat, but she was wrong. Both her and Adam crowded around, happy to be arming themselves, before the two men even got a chance to go about setting everything down.
Wo Fat looked caught sight of Dana who had pressed herself into the corner and said: "Someone should stash her somewhere."
Adam went to put Dana in a different room as the two men and Kono went about picking their weapons and then loading them.
Sin Nombre looked up to Kono briefly and then said: "Uh… I'd appreciate it if you didn't kick me this time."
Kono shot him a small smile as she picked looked over the SMG she had just finished loading. "I can promise that any kicks I may or may not land on you will be completely accidental."
Sin NOmbre hit her with a roguish grin before turning his own attention back to the guns he was strapping to himself. Across from them Rowan shut the door and then opened it again and this time Steve and Danny were coming through, fully geared up and ready to go.
The second they came in, Kono was moving in to hug Steve, she was just so happy to see him. They were almost to the point where they're supposed to exchange stories as to what had happened when Rowan suddenly snapped: "Don't shoot anyone."
Everyone paused Steve didn't have a gun drawn, neither did Danny. So they all turned back to where Sin Nombre was standing, foot on Bob's chest, his pistol pointed to his head. He had put on the rabbit mask and he knew that he was no longer the Con that Rowan knew and loved and had slipped into his Sin Nombre persona.
"What the hell am I here for?" he cried throwing his hands up.
"Not him."
"Is he a bad guy?"
"I dealt with him, Steve has cuffs, you're here to deal with the other assholes," she cried and he sighed forcibly like Rowan was ruining everything. He slid the mask to the side of his head so they could see his face, no doubt returning to the Con version of himself. He then stomped over to the windows with his gun to survey the situation.
"I don't see a clear vantage point," he called out to them.
"We're in the middle of nowhere in a jungle, sound familiar?" Wo shot back and the man turned back to them.
"Sure as hell does, hey, this time, we wanna make sure Ro doesn't go full vortex."
Wo Fat shot him a dirty look but otherwise said nothing. He turned on Rowan. "We're going to need higher ground. Just so I know on a level of one to ten how weird is this gonna…"
"Ten," Both her and Sin Nombre said at the same time. But he added: "She gets freaky when she's haunting."
He then turned his mask so it was on his face and looked to Rowan. "Roof us."
Rowan gave him a nod and then made some gesture with both her hands in an upward motion of towards the ceiling and just like that Wo Fat and Sin Nombre were gone. Adam had chosen that time to appear in the main room again. He looked at Rowan and then to all of them and then to the ceiling in utter confusion.
"What just happened?" Adam asked but no one moved to explain it to him.
Rowan turned to Steve and Danny with a clap of her hands. "Kay so I'll be in the jungle, do you two wanna be inside or roof?"
"Uh… roof," Danny said. "I wanna see what you mean by haunting."
Steve nodded. "Roof too."
"Kay," and then she did the gesture once more and both Danny and Steve were gone too.
"WHAT THE HELL?!" Adam practically screamed and Rowan turned on him clearly unimpressed.
"I have magic powers, get over it."
And then a portal opened up under her feet and she was gone. Adam turned to Kono with wide eyes and she said: "Can I brief you later?"
From the roof came gunshots and the two rushed off to their positions ready to pick off anyone who came through the door.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
It was a jarring feeling being thrown like that. Everyone else seemed to be fine, Danny had no symptoms, Sin Nombre and Wo Fat never showed any signs of problems, but Steven was dizzy, his vision spotty and he swore he couldn't breathe.
He stood there trying very hard to just not fall off the roof while Danny looked around and Wo Fat and Sin Nombre went about picking the best vantage points to shoot. He noted that they had brought their own personal stash of weapons up to the roof with them.
He also noted that Sin Nombre had a different gun on his back, a long rifle that looked an awful lot like an elongated version of her energizing ray. He longed to ask what that was but the two men were not paying attention to Steve and Danny at all and he didn't want to distract or disrupt them. Sure they had shot a glance to both of them but other than that they didn't seem to care.
"Alright standard rules apply. Head shots are fifty, body shots are ten. If it's a Ro-assist points are halfed."
"I know the rules," Wo Fat grumbled as he got his own gun ready to go. "Do you know where she's starting?"
"No, didn't tell us where she was starting."
"I was asking McGarrett," Wo answered putting his own rifle up to his eye and then using it to scan the expanse of dark trees around them. Sin Nombre stopped looking through his own iron sight to turn to McGarrett.
"Oh Hey! Would have thought you two would want to be in the action."
"She said she was going to haunt, I wanna know what that means," Steve said. "And I don't know where she's starting either."
And then he paused, he suddenly had this overwhelming pressing urgency, that was leading him towards a certain point in the jungle. He stared off into the distance at it trying to establish what it was that was pulling him but he knew it was Rowan he just didn't know if she was in trouble.
Both Wo Fat and Sin Nombre turned their rifles to the direction where his eyes were pointed. "Yep there she is. You're right it's so much easier when he's here," Sin Nombre said.
"There are night vision goggles if you need them," Wo said. "She's doing her thing right now."
Both Danny and Steve lunged for the bag to get the goggles. They both had goggles to their face within seconds and then they were seeing what Wo Fat and Sin Nombre were seeing. She was coated in orange bolts running up and down her like you'd see in those old radio antennas. And she was blinking, just like she used to but as she blinked she was moving from place to place. She was opening portals and throwing and pulling people. And while she did it she pulled faces and was acting demonic or possessed.
Steve wasn't sure he knew what he was looking at but if this was what Gabriel was staring down on a nightly biases how hadn't he ended up a little more crazy?
He turned to the two men. Wo Fat had made a comment earlier that made Steve feel like he hadn't seen this side of her powers, but Sin Nombre had. He was waiting to see if Wo Fat would panic like Steve felt himself doing, but if he was he wasn't showing it outwardly on his face. He and Sin Nombre were busy just shooting everything they could.
As they were, Sin Nombre was counting. "Fifty…. Fifty… Fifty… Fifty…"
"Shut up. Keep your count to yourself," Wo Fat growled but even with the mask on Steve could sense that Sin Nombre was smiling.
"You're just a sore loser. Fif…. Oh…" he said and then he paused and took his eye away from the iron sight. "Uh-oh."
"What?"
"Either I hit Rowan or Rowan got hit." Steve's whole body froze, he suddenly couldn't breathe, no matter what he did.
Both Wo Fat and Sin Nombre turned to Danny and Steve each had a hand outstretched. "Goggles please," they said in unison. Why the hell were they so goddamn calm? How could they be calm about this?
Danny handed his to Wo Fat who went about scanning the area for Rowan. Steve did not hand Sin Nombre's his though because he was using them to try and find her. He couldn't see anything except people in white masks all freaking out and running every which way in a panic.
"Well Steve hasn't been pulled so…"
There was a pop and Steve turned, there was his Rowan, bearing down on the two of them. "Which one of you two almost shot me!" she cried and Wo Fat pointed at Sin Nombre who immediately got a light cuffing across the back of his head. "I know Steve's here but I thought we didn't want me full vortexing!"
"We don't," the two men said together.
"Then fucking watch it!" she ordered and then she just walked right off the roof. Just like that. With no hesitation what-so-ever.
Steve watched her go that sense of panic overwhelming him. He couldn't help it, he didn't want Rowan to get hurt, he wanted her back with him. And not seconds after he thought that both men stopped shooting and paused.
"That was weird," Wo said and Sin Nombre turned and pointed a stern finger at Steven.
"Whatever you're doing or thinking, stop it!" he ordered and Steve jerked like he had been slapped. "She just got jerked back and I know she didn't do it herself, you're fucking with her from here. Stop it or I'll put you out of commission!"
He was messing with her powers from where he was? Fuck. Fuck. No, he didn't want her to get hurt because he was anxious. So he actively stopped thinking about her and focused on whatever else was around him. And his eyes found that gun again, the one on Sin Nombre's back. He moved despite knowing not to and put a hand out to the gun. His fingertips had barely touched it when Sin Nombre quickly stood and whirled around, getting right into Steve's face.
"Why are you touching me?"
"I was just looking…"
"With your hands? What are you a toddler? That's how someone gets stabbed," Sin Nombre said, putting the sniper rifle down and picking up a rapid fire SMG. He then took the odd, futuristic looking gun and putting it into Steve's hands. "You wanna see it so much, there. But don't break it, it's the only one we have and it's the only thing that'll slow her down if she gets a little too hyper with the haunting… which could happen."
This slowed her down? So was this like a… "Her dad called it a de-energizing ray," Wo said, he too was trading the sniper rifle for a shorter, closer range gun. "Her and her dad have a certain way around titling things."
Steve nodded. "Does it hurt her?" he asked and when both men shrugged he asked: "Well have you ever used it before?"
"I haven't shot Ro with it, but I shot you once," Sin Nombre said.
"You did?"
"Yeah, in her dad's lab. First vortexing issue," he said. "Had to get you to let her go, shot you in the shoulder. How did that feel?"
Well if that was the vortexing issue where he thought it was a dream, then yeah, that sucker hurt like hell.
"It hurt."
"Then yeah, it'll probably hurt her too."
Steve felt the urge to just crush the thing in his hands then and there but he didn't. Not if they'd need it one day and he was pretty sure that he wouldn't be able to get another one from her dad. Not if he knew Steve was involved.
"She's uh… she's driving them up to the house," Sin Nombre told them, "So either pick up a gun or get down cause I think these dumb fucks are shooting everything that moves which includes themselves."
"Rednecks, right?" Wo said and beside him, Steve swore he heard Sin Nombre chuckle.
But luckily they didn't have to worry too long about the death cult that were making their way to the house from the jungle. They weren't a threat, they had become a bunch of idiots in white masks sprinting to the house for safety. Wo Fat and Sin Nombre opened a clip into them each and then the red and blue lights were flashing, coming up the hill.
Steve and Danny went from being on the roof to in the house, staring at Kono and Adam who were both armed but hadn't had to actual shoot anyone because Con and Wo had done it for them.
Steve went outside to look at the roof but he even before he got out there that he wasn't going to see them. Wo Fat, Sin Nombre, Rowan and all the gear they had brought with them were gone.
