Rewrite

A/N: Happy Monday my wonderful readers! This is it. This is the last filler chapter and then we're back in the episodes. ARE YOU READY?! It took me a long time to get here, so much so that I had to create a whole new document to hold the rest of the chapters I still need to write. This is also probably one of my favourite chapters, I swear I've been writing a lot of those lately. And yes, High Guardian, we're going to have Sin Nombre in this one too! So as always, don't forget to leave me a review and I'll see you guys next week!

Chapter 342

Their family vacation/honeymoon, turned into a work event, because after the wedding, none of their friends and wedding guests really went home. They all took over the reservations so they were paying for themselves instead of Wo Fat and Rowan covering everything, though they did offer to help out those who couldn't afford the swanky hotel they were in.

But Steve did get some family vacation time. He, Rowan and Nahele did go on a few snorkeling trips and spent a day at the water park going down all the different slides together, though they mostly waited in lines. They even got to swim/walk in a shark tank. And by they, it was Steve and Nahele, both of them not wanting Rowan anywhere near the sharks.

He was actually starting to like his new little family, even if it included his arch nemesis and a wisecracking assassin that he was certain was one of his new wife's exes from the Year of Deceit. But he didn't have proof so he didn't confront her about it. He had actually started to enjoy Wo Fat and Sin Nombre's company, because for as much grief as they gave him, they gave it to Rowan and Rowan gave it right back. And there was something wondrous about watching his wife sass and tease two of the most dangerous men in the world.

He also hadn't asked her for the answers and the holes in the story that he wanted. Why? Because everything was going so well that he didn't want to ruin it by poking holes into everything.

They came back from Bahamas and Governor Mahoe presented them with a gift and a little bit of an indignant huff about not being invited when the previous Governor was. Rowan apologized and then presented her with a dried flower from her wedding bouquet. She told her that she had given these out to the women at her wedding as a sort of party favour and then said she'd be honored if Governor Mahoe accepted the last one.

And just like that Steve's request for an extra week off with his new bride was approved.

Nahele went back to school, aced all the tests and assignments that he needed to ace. The two of them went to his last football game together in matching McGarrett jerseys in the Kukui colors.

Steve was aware that Rowan got a little bit of questioning from the other women in her life about why she took Steve's last name. She had said it was because she wanted it, proof that he had married her after all attached to her name. That and she wanted a work life and a private life. Rowan Pierce being her work life and Rowan McGarrett as her private life. And Professional as her criminal life, which was not nearly as active now that he had gotten her settled down.

And Steve had been doing so well. He hadn't panicked. He hadn't gotten cold feet. He wasn't regretting this decision. He was happy. Like truly happy. And he loved, absolutely loved calling Rowan his wife. Loved everything about Rowan being his wife. Seriously… why had he waited so long to do this?

Especially since nothing had really changed, they were the same. So he was essentially married long before he said those vows, but at the same time he was glad he did it. Because Rowan glowed when he called her his wife. Because he liked the way she smiled when she stared at her wedding ring. Because he liked her calling him her husband, and he too loved to look at that onyx band that represented his commitment to her.

Yes everything had been perfect.

But today, his beautiful wonderful perfect wife came down the stairs, found him at the kitchen table and was wearing a battle mask. And that did not bode well.

"Okay… so I'm going to be doing something today… something you won't like."

Right, because that was how he wanted to start that morning. He opened his mouth to complain, or maybe to beg her not to do this, not so soon after their wedding, but she silenced him before he could talk with the shake of a head.

"No. Before I tell you what I'm doing, I'm going to give you two options, okay?"

"Uh… I mean do I have a choice?"

"Yeah, I'm going to give you two." Well he walked into that one. "Right, so option one, you stay home."

Yeah he already didn't like that. He didn't even know what she was doing or what option two would be, but he wasn't going to stay behind as she went off and did whatever it was she was going to be doing.

"Option two, you come with me to Japan."

"To Japan?" Steve thundered. "Babe… babe… I just rescued from Japan."

"I know."

"So why the hell do you want to go back?"

"Because it's Wo's birthday today."

Aw hell. That was a pretty good reason. And it was very nice of her to invite him but he had a feeling that he wasn't welcome.

So after a pause he cleared his throat and said: "Uh… I don't think he'd…"

"Nonsense. He told me to invite you."

"Oh…" That was quite surprising. "Uh… who else is going to be there?"

"Uhm… Jian for starters. Uhm, Armando's been there all week, JC is with him I believe. I uh… I have to pull Con, then me of course. Oh and I'm supposed to potentially pull his dad and your mom."

Oh, his mom was going to be there? Then yeah, yeah he was going to be there.

"Okay… okay… and you're sure he's okay with it?"

"Yes Steven," she said pulling out a wine gift bag filled with red tissue paper. She rooted through it before pulling something out. "He knows that you don't like the void and he knows, on a good day, you don't like me wandering through it, least of all to him. And after everything that happened, us being newlyweds and all, he extended the invitation to you."

She found what she was looking for, which was the card, and offered it out to him.

"Here, sign the card, say something nice, even if you don't mean it. It's a dinner party so we're leaving at 10pm. Nahele's at Kai's for the night, he'll be leaving at six, and I don't want him to know we're going off island, so we'll have to be back before he is tomorrow morning."

"Dinner is at ten?"

"Well technically his birthday is tomorrow. 19 hour time change remember?"

He did remember.

"Party's 5pm his time."

"Got it. And I promise I'll write something nice."

Though he knew already what he was going to write. An ode to what Wo had once written in a get-well card for Steven. She stooped down to kiss him on the cheek but he moved quickly capturing her mouth. As always, a few kisses were nothing but. Within moments he had his wife on top of him, in the process of stripping them both of whatever they needed to to get at each other quickly and quietly before Nahele came down to find them. Moments later they were a panting writing mess.

God he was so glad to be married.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

So far his birthday had been a good one.

Last year his birthday had fallen silent, much like it had the years before. This time, because he was too busy dealing with Rowan and Armando's security. They had been in Colombia by the time his birthday had come around and when Rowan found out that he had skipped his birthday to play ruination with Armando she had been livid. Then made him have dinner with everyone, with a specially made rum cake just for him, to make up for it.

This year she was not letting that happen again. And she made sure of it by telling Jian when his birthday was. That way it wouldn't be forgotten even if she wasn't around. The traitor.

Jian had spent a lot of time on the phone with Rowan to plan this birthday for him, though he knew very little of what was going on. Armando had showed up earlier that week with JC in tow to spend quality time with him and to act as muscle for a few deals Wo Fat had brokered.

Day of his birthday Jian had woken him up with his first round of birthday sex. Then she gave him breakfast in bed which ended in even more birthday sex. After that he got quiet time while she began to decorate for the party. This of course involved intermitted breaks for even more birthday sex.

He was getting all sorts of laid that day. In fact, he was bothering Jian so much, she made him leave. She sent him off with Armando to go golfing. Not only did Armando graciously let him win, he kept his annoying nephew away from him too. By the time the two were done their 18 holes and drinks in the club, it was about time to go home and change for his dinner party.

Jian didn't really have to do much in the way of cooking as she was having the party catered, but she had opened up the wine for the night to let it breathe and spent a lot of time decorating. She had the apartment done up in black and silver streamers and balloons. Their dining room table was dressed up in fancy plates and silverware all set for the soon to be coming company.

Jian was even dressed up in a fancy little navy-blue number similar to the kind of dresses Rowan wore. He kissed his girlfriend on the cheek. Then quickly retired to their room to change and to shoot off a text to Rowan telling her not to wear navy blue and for Steve not to wear grey.

Cause all he needed was to end up matching with his sister and her husband.

Armando showed up with JC right on time. Rowan had sent a text saying she was going to be late, which meant everyone coming with her was going to be late too. Since they needed Rowan's void powers to arrive.

Jian had just finished putting everything on the table, the food, the wine, the tequila for Con, everything was set, when she turned to him and asked: "Did you say how late she was going to be?"

At that moment the door to their apartment banged open and five people and an argument came through it.

"Well how was I to know I had two fucking atlases with me?" Rowan cried. "I'm sorry I didn't think they'd look out a window and know where we were from a glimpse!"

Ah, so Rowan had gone to pick up everyone at once then. Con came through first, shoving a box into Wo Fat's hands and then attacking him with a hug. The next through the door was his father who too pulled him in for a hug. Then came Steven who was more preoccupied with the argument trailing behind him.

The door slammed behind her—she was always the last through her portals—and Doris turned on her.

"You should have stuck to the original plan, now I'll have to relocate…"

"Stop, stop mom," Steve said stepping between Doris and Rowan. "Stop yelling at my wife." Rowan said he said that a lot. He had been in Wo Fat's apartment for less than five seconds and he had already called her wife. "I'm sorry I recognized where you and Yao are staying but neither Con or I are threats."

"Exactly," Con said moving in to kiss Jian's cheek. "Wo couldn't break Steve and no one has ever broken me." He stopped hugging Wo to say: "And you can't call me Con, you have to call me Sin Nombre. I shouldn't have to keep telling you that."

Steve huffed and turned to Rowan who had just finished hugging Jian and shrugged. "You haven't earned it yet."

"How did my mom earn it?" he cried pointing at Doris. "You haven't met her before today!"

Con's mouth dropped open in shock. "She's Mrs. McGarrett, she can call me whatever she wants. Gotta respect your elders, ese."

Doris shot Steve a smug smile while Steve shook his head. But it was Rowan who said: "Steve's older than you."

"Kay, a couple years don't mean nothing."

"No, he's like 8 years older than you. He's closer to Wo's age."

Con's mouth dropped open again. "He's 39? You're 39? Are you shitting me? I mean that explains the grey hair but I mean… damn Ro why did you marry him? He's got like a decade on you."

"No, it's only 9 years," Rowan said as the scowl depended on Steve's face. She glanced at him and then turned back to Con and Wo. "Okay, stop harping on him. I've married him, let it go."

"Divorce," Wo Fat said and everyone turned to him. "What? They can't get annulled all they do is have sex. I'm just saying. It's an option."

For a moment Steve just stared at him a horrified look on his face that slowly darkened into an angry glare.

"Okay, you know what. Mom, have you met Jian? She's Wo Fat's girlfriend?" he said and then pointed at Jian.

Doris turned to appraise her and Wo Fat scowled. He was very aware that, even though Doris had met Jian briefly at the wedding, shew as still nervous about properly meeting her tonight. And Steve clearly knew that otherwise he wouldn't have shoved the limelight onto Jian like that.

"You are such a snake!" he hissed, taking half a step forward to accost him. Steve just straightened, puffing out his chest and craning his neck to make himself seem bigger than Wo Fat as if that had ever intimidated him before.

"Boys!" Doris interjected stopping them in their tracks. She just had to glare at them for them to both back down. She then turned a smile to Jian who had been pressing her skirt down for imaginary wrinkles. "Hello, I'm Doris…"

"His mother, yes, it's nice to properly meet you. We uhm… we sort of met at the wedding…"

"My son mentioned that there was an altercation after the wedding and Rowan, my new daughter-in-law, ended up with a black eye."

Jain turned angry eyes onto Wo but Steve raised his hand. "She means me, her real son."

"Steven," Doris chided but Steve was already cracking open a beer. He looked at the other drink options and then turned once more to Rowan.

"I see champagne and orange juice. No drinking and voiding."

Wo Fat continued to glare at him, not liking how McGarrett kept bossing around his Ro, but Jian said: "We have ginger ale in the fridge, as she already told me she won't be drinking. And that's your one beer, we have uhm… root beer for you. Specially imported in."

Steve turned a dry glare onto Rowan who merely shrugged and said: "If I have to be sober so do you. Solidarity. Wo got it, now it's your turn."

"You're lucky you're cute," he growled.

Rowan was already moving around the table to where Armando and JC were sitting, she stooped in to hug each of them. But when she went to hug JC a dangerous glare crossed all three of the men in her life's faces.

"I'm allowed to hug her," he said to them, but the glares did not leave their faces.

"Calm yourselves, it's a hug, just a hug," she said rounding the table once more to stand beside her husband. The second she got close to him, one of his hands darted out and pulled her to his side.

"Kay well you know how I feel about your exes," he said to her but Rowan just rolled her eyes.

"It was sex, and it was one time. And it wasn't even that good."

This put a giant smile on Steve's face cause he loved to hear that even while she was away what she really wanted was him. But it was kind of mean to say right in front of JC who was now scowling at her.

"HA!" came out of Con who too was grinning at Rowan's admission. "That is stone cold!"

"She gets that from me," Wo said proudly even though it wasn't true. Rowan had the ability to be stone cold before he met her she was just better at it thanks to his influence.

Jian stepped up, ready to get on with the party and Steve's mother off of how Rowan got her black eye, which was still fading off of her face.

"Are we ready to eat?" she asked them and they all nodded. She had them all take their seats, except for Rowan who helped her get all the different dishes to the table.

As Wo took his seat at the head of the table, with Jian on his right and Rowan on his left. He remarked that he was very lucky to have the family he had with him at that moment. Even if that family included stupid Steven McGarrett now.

And while he'd never admit it, he was very, well aware that he had all of this because Rowan was in his life and made all of this possible. One day he'd have to tell her how grateful he was for what she had done for him, just you know… when Jian and Steven weren't around.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

Dinner was filled with questions that were all pointed at Rowan. Mainly around her powers as some of the people at the table knew she had them but didn't know the story behind them. Mainly Armando, JC, Yao and Doris. And Jian technically, as she got half the story but not all the story from Wo Fat.

This all started, of course, with Wo Fat asking where his nephew was. Which was seconded by Doris who wanted to meet her grandson, though she was also quite interested in when Steve would be making it official.

Steve had told her he planned to give the papers to Nahele for Christmas to make it a cute story for the two of them to share. Rowan had said she had him sleeping over at a friend's house as he had no idea about her powers at that moment.

Cue to all the questions about the powers.

Steve tried to get Armando to talk about Colombia, but all Rowan had to say was: "I didn't want to embarrass you or Wo with that story," and the man fucking clammed up. Seriously, what the fuck was so embarrassing about the Colombia story that both Armando and Wo Fat would refuse to talk about it? Seriously!

Dinner finished, the plates were all cleared away. Their alcoholic, or non-alcoholic for Rowan and Steve, drinks were traded out for teas and coffees, and then the cake was brought out. A dark chocolate sponge cake covered in icing sugar and raspberries. And of course, two sparklers instead of candles.

They all sang happy birthday to him, even though he specifically requested just Rowan cause she was the best singer of them all, they just didn't listen to him.

The cake was doled out, it wasn't too sweet which was exactly the kind of cake that Wo Fa would like and they traded softer stories. Jian made the mistake of asking Wo Fat what he did for his birthday's before this.

He mentioned the year before, how he had missed his birthday and Rowan had freaked out and made him have a fancy dinner with everyone in Armando's safe house, and how she didn't have time to get him a gift so she had made him a black forest chocolate cake with unsweetened chocolate and rum as a the secret ingredient.

But that was just last year, what did he do the year before? Well, nothing. He didn't really celebrate his birthday, he had a few that he sort of remembered with Doris, with chocolate cake out of a box and small gifts wrapped in colored construction paper but that was it.

And that was depressing. Jian was clearly horrified, Wo and Yao were both uncomfortable, because it was clear that Wo Fat had been lacking love and care as he grew up, which sort of explained why he was the way he was. But Rowan just reached out, took his hand and said: "Well from now on you're going to celebrate your birthday cause I won't forget. And I won't let anyone else forget either. Right?"

She had said that to Jian who took his other hand with a smile and said: "Of course, between the two of us, you'll never be alone for your birthday every again."

Wo Fat had tried to hide his smile but couldn't.

Steve just sat there wondering if anyone would have ever thought it possible that he would be sitting down at Wo Fat's table celebrating his birthday. To see where the two of them had come in such a short amount of time was daunting and just a little concerning.

Amazing how easy it was to forget that you were supposed to hate someone when the one you love was attached to them. Especially if that person was helping you rescue the one you love from every stupid situation she got herself into.

Once cake was handed out it was time for birthday presents. They all got their respective gifts, Steve's name officially attached to whatever it was that she had gotten Wo Fat, and then patiently waited for him to open his gifts.

The first present he took was Jian's who had gotten him nautical themed tie pins and matching cufflinks. Which was about when Steve was made aware that Wo Fat's favourite book was Treasure Island, and coincidentally it was his favourite Muppet movie as well.

The next was JC and Armando who had gotten him an all white golfing outfit, with matching shoes and hat.

Then it came to Sin Nombre's box, which he dropped in Wo Fat's lap. Wo Fat picked up the box looked it over and then said: "This box is leaking…"

Sin Nombre took it from him, and then felt at what was coming out of it. Blood painted his finger tip. "Oh… huh… I must have given her the wrong box… Hey Ro can you open directly to her?"

Steve turned to Rowan, who the hell was this her? It better not be Catherine, because he had handled Catherine. No need for Con to be handing Catherine bloodied boxes. Especially since that meant she'd be going straight to Steve to complain and he wanted to stay away from Catherine for a little while.

Rowan blinked her eyes at him but eventually told him she could. Then they were both by the front door again and he was putting on his rabbit mask. Though why he had brought it with him to this party was something else entirely.

She opened the door to a small room, an apartment. Despite himself Steve watched with rapt interest as Sin Nombre walked into the room.

"I've given you the wrong box," he said to someone, who yelped upon seeing him. He handed the bloody box and then picked up a different one out of the person's hands. "This is not for you. That one is."

"What… how did you… where did you… what is this?"

"Oh it's a head!" Sin Nombre said very happily. "That new guy you're dating? Yeah framed you for his murder, so you're going to move again. I would recommend Santa Monica, since we haven't been there yet, what do you think? I hear it's very pretty. Anyway, think about it, and uh… enjoy the rest of your night."

He then walked right back through the door right but before Rowan closed it Steve caught a glimpse of who was on the other side of the door looking at the bloody leaking box in her hands. And he was pretty sure he recognized her too.

Steve shot up out of his feet, but he felt it when Rowan severed the connection between them and there.

"Wait!" he cried and then she turned to him surprised like she wouldn't understand why he would care. "Who was that?"

Rowan glanced to Sin Nombre who was staring at Steve as if he finally understood why she had been so hesitant about opening that door.

"That looked like Madison Grey. Was that Madison Grey?"

Rowan winced. "I mean…"

"Hell he saw her, no point in lying so soon after you two got married," he said and then turned to Steve. "Yeah, it was Grey. I've been haunting her since she left Hawaii. It's why I'm in California. But you can't go after her yet, the strings say you can't."

The strings said what now? Steve turned wide eyes on his wife. He knew that she was hiding things from him but this was next level even for her.

"Rowan… I've been looking for Grey since October, and you've known where she was this whole time?" he growled.

Rowan opened her mouth but Wo Fat suddenly stood and got in between him and Rowan. Which made no sense because she was by the door and he was still at the table, which was a good ten feet away from her. He also wasn't about to charge the distance and attack his wife. That would be stupid even if Sin Nombre wasn't standing right beside her. He would also never do that.

"Firstly, you're making a scene, stop it," he ordered and Steve blinked his eyes. Wo then glanced at Rowan and then back to him. "If she says it's not in the strings right now, then it's not in the strings. She told me about my dad and where he was months before we actually went to get him, and I had no problem waiting."

Rowan cleared her throat and he sighed. "Fine I had a problem waiting, but if she says it's not in the strings I'm not about to argue with her."

"Yeah, except she told you about your dad, she didn't tell me anything."

"Well that's cause I listen to her and you don't," Wo Fat snapped back and though he tried not to flinch, those words might as well have been a knife to his chest.

"What does that even mean though," Steve thundered. "Not in the strings? What does that mean?"

"It means certain things have to happen first to get the best outcome. So while I know where Dr. Grey is, it's not a good time to off her or go after her. Something has to happen first."

"And what is that?"

"I unno, she has to go find some girl and then we can go after her," Rowan said with a shrug. "I'm not sure to be honest, I just know that nothing good happens if we try to go after her now. Like to the point where the strings will rewrite the ending so she ends up being free again. Seriously, it happened with Gabriel that's why we never succeeded in putting him down… you know until I blew him up."

Steve glanced at both Wo Fat and Sin Nombre. Well, maybe she did have a point. It makes no sense that both Wo Fat and Sin Nombre failed in putting Gabriel in the ground. And if the strings were really stopping them from achieving that until he completed something it would explain why Gabriel survived everything up until he shot Rowan in that theater.

"Okay… so… there will be a time where I'll be able to go after Madison Grey and you're going to tell me when that is," he asked and Rowan nodded. "Fine, fine, I'll drop it for now, but me and you are talking about this. You can't keep hiding things from me. I don't care if you think I'm going to overreact you have to tell me these things. You know I hate being out of the loop."

Rowan nodded crossing to him right away so he could wrap her up in his arms. He held her tightly for a moment while Sin Nombre peeled his rabbit mask off and then put the box into Wo Fat's hands.

"This one is for you, for real this time," he said as he took his seat.

Wo turned to Steve. "Are we good now, can we go back to the party or do you want the spotlight on you for a little while longer?"

Steve scowled at him. "No, I'm good," he said as he took his seat and Rowan took hers beside him. He made sure he didn't once let go of her hand though, he wanted to keep a very tight grip on her to make sure that she knew that he wasn't mad at her at all.

"Right, so my gift goes with Rowans," Sin Nombre said as Wo Fat carefully looked at the box in his hands. "And there's no card."

Wo Fat nodded and then ripped it apart, a flurry of wrapping paper hit the air and then he was tearing the tissue paper apart to get to his gift. It was like a kid on Christmas and Steve had a feeling that Wo Fat didn't really have a lot of family Christmases either.

Which meant there was a good chance Rowan was going to have her brothers at his house for Christmas. So that was something he'd have to look forward to. He'd have a month now to get himself prepared for that mental image.

The first to come out was a whiskey wedge ice cube maker. "To make your whiskey aesthetically pleasing!" Sin Nombre had cried and Wo gave him a bit of a shake of his head.

Then he got Scotch-infused tooth picks, a Tom Dixon Whiskey decanter, all sleek black with a trim of silver around the neck. Then a set of Original BenShot Bullet whiskey glasses. Which all meant that Rowan must have bought Wo Fat a bottle of whiskey.

The last thing in the box was the Dead Rabbit Mixology and Mayhem Book which he said he picked up because it was all about whiskey mixology and it sported a guy with a rabbit head toting two shot guns which was like him. He had bought one for himself too, and he thought it would be fun if they had whiskey nights, where they have their whiskey and talk about their mix or whatnot.

Wo Fat might have teared up but Steve wasn't sure.

Doris was certain to hand over a card to Wo Fat that was from her and his father, she said she hadn't gotten him much in the way of a gift but had slipped a little something in there for him.

Steve wasn't sure what was on those photos but it sure did make Wo Fat misty eyed. Steve wouldn't find out until he got home that it was actually a phone of little baby Wo with his father and mother, before Doris shot her and then one of a little older Wo with Doris and his father, and then one of him and Doris before she vanished too.

Probably the only family photos he had.

Steve was probably going to have to pose with Rowan and her brothers for a family photo in the near future too, so wasn't that just great?

Then, finally, it came to Rowan and Steve's present. Rowan handed him the bag and said: "Make sure to read the card first."

Wo Fat pulled their card out opened it up and then chuckled a bit.

"She uh… she defined Brother as a person who is there when you need him, who picks you up when you fall, a person who sticks up for you when no one else will, and will kill all the bad guys without asking. Or, her best friend."

They all awed at that, but Steve didn't because she really shouldn't have Wo Fat killing all the people that annoy her, but he was willing to let that go.

"And Steve wrote…"

Uh oh… he didn't think that Wo would read this out loud but he did… before Steve could stop him.

"I don't want you to think I care, because I really don't, but I hear it's the day of your birth. So have a good day. Or whatever."

"Steven!" Rowan cried and Steve hung his head, it was supposed to be a joke, he didn't realize that maybe he wouldn't get that but Wo surprised them by laughing.

"This is pretty close to what I wrote in your get well card," he said and Steve smiled proudly. "Touché."

"Wait a second, what did you write in his card? I gave you a pre-set thing to write," Rowan whined.

"He said something like he didn't want me to think I care, cause he didn't, and that he was disappointed that I only killed my liver and that I was to do him a favour and not get better," Steve recounted and Wo nodded.

"Yeah something like that."

"WO!" Rowan cried and he sighed.

"You had me writing something about how even though we're on different sides I still hoped he get better, and I did not hope for that. So, I said I wrote in what you told me to write and then wrote what I wanted."

Rowan sighed. "I knew I couldn't trust you two to be nice, why did I trust you two?"

Steve had no idea but he was glad that Wo Fat got the joke.

"If you're done guilt tripping me, I'm going to open this bottle of whiskey you… you…" he had pulled the bottle out of the bag as he was talking but went silent at the sight of the bottle in the bag.

"What… how did you… this is a 600 thousand dollar bottle of whiskey…"

It was how much? Steve turned surprised eyes to Rowan who just smiled at him.

"You're worth it though."

"Holy shit you actually got him the Macallan?" Sin Nombre asked but Steve was just confused. How did a bottle of whiskey cost that much?

"It's a what?" Jian asked.

"It's a Macallan 1926 single malt whiskey. It's the rarest whiskey in the world. A bottle went up for auction in October but the seller sold it before auction to a buyer who wanted to remain…" he glanced up to Rowan who was smiling at him. "It was you."

"Yep, jumped all the way to Dubai to pay in cash," she said. "I'm pretty sure he only sold it to me because he was terrified. I paid way below asking."

Wo Fat was holding onto that bottle like it was a precious baby. "Oh my god," he kept whispering and Steve felt like the world was spinning around him.

"You bought your brother a six hundred thousand dollar bottle of whiskey?" he hissed into her ear.

"It's nothing compared to what he had to shell out for our wedding," she whispered back and Steve felt his stomach drop. What the hell had Wo Fat spent on their wedding?

"Why don't you open it and…"

"Open it!" Wo Fat howled. "Are you out of your mind, this bottle is worth a fortune. I'mma put it in a safe."

"Well what was the point of me buying it if you weren't going to try some?"

"I will try some on my death bed, thank you very much," he growled back and Rowan huffed at him.

"Just so long as we can all try a glass with you my friend," Armando said eyeing the bottle with what could only have been greed in his eyes.

Steve found himself smiling. He thought he might feel out of place, and maybe he did a little bit, but he figured that this was fine. Wo Fat had sat through a fishing expedition with his friends, so this was nothing, especially since he had Rowan beside him. And besides, he was actually sort of having fun. And maybe that made him feel a little guilty since Wo Fat was still the reason his dad was dead, but otherwise, Steve was actually having fun. He was very glad he had come with Rowan after all.
