A/N: Happy Tuesday my wonderful readers. I wasn't feeling well yesterday (Migraine not COVID) and I passed out when I got home from work. Completely forgot to post. But hopefully the really long chapter we have here will make up for it. We have some very interesting chapters coming up that I'm super proud about. Can you believe that I'm only on Episode 10 right now? I still have so much to go and I feel like I've written so much already and it's only going to get more interesting from here.
Chapter 351
Danny and Steve split up for two different reasons.
One, Danny was going to confront his sister about the visions without telling his sister that Rowan was psychic.
Two, Steve was going to ask for advice and he had only one person he could think to ask.
He dialled Wo before doing the mental math about what time it was in Japan, but it was early morning so the man picked up on the second right.
"What?"
Wow, he wasn't even getting Fat as a greeting anymore?
"She's fine," he said.
"I figured. What do you want?"
Wow, he was in a really bad mood.
"Am I interrupting something?"
"Yes. Morning sex," he said and then Steve heard a squeal of upset from the woman in Wo Fat's bed. If they were in bed. He clearly had the phone away from his face but Steve still heard him asked: "What? What's wrong? Where are you going?"
There was a slam of the door and Steve knew right away that morning sex was over. "Great job, McGarrett, you've ruined my morning and upset my girlfriend."
Steve was a little surprised that Wo had given Jian that label as easily as he had. HE would have thought that he would have put up more resistance, but Rowan kept saying that Wo had learned from Steve's mistakes and endeavoured not to repeat them. Instead he made completely different mistakes, like announcing he's attempting to have sex and embarrassing his girlfriend.
"Why did you pick up the phone?"
"Cause I never know if it's an emergency or not," he said stiffly. "Just… what do you want and make it quick cause I'm going to need to do damage control before she leaves for… nope, she just left. GODDAMN IT MCGARRETT!"
Steve struggled to hide his smile. "I'm sorry, I just… I just had a question."
"Oh my god. You and your never-ending questions!" he cried.
"It's just… I had something happen and I wanted to know how you dealt with a similar situation."
"We both know I have no problem shooting people. If you're having issues with guilt you could ask Ro to pull me and I could…"
"No, Wo, I don't need anyone killed," Steve said with a sigh. "I just, I mean… remember Matty?"
"Uh… maybe?"
"What do you mean maybe? Danny's little brother? You lived in a safe house with him for like five months."
"OH! The other annoying Williams, yes, what about him? If he's stuck in Colombia again, he's on his own."
"No. God, Wo," Steve growled but he knew the man had no idea what was upsetting him. "Look, he's been dating my sister…"
"Oh, I see…" "—Please let me finish before you say something equally as terrifying!" "… right sorry, go on."
Steve took a deep breath. "Right. Okay, so he just asked me for permission to marry my sister and I just… I unno… how did you do this? How did you get over me asking you for permission to marry Rowan?"
"Easy, I thought about what would make Rowan happy."
Steve blinked his eyes. Yeah, why hadn't he thought of that? Probably because Mary hadn't talked to him about this relationship so he had no idea if she was happy or not.
"See… unlike you I'm not selfish," Wo said and Steve tried to bite back the sigh, the dig was not needed. "While I didn't like you, I knew my sister loved you, and I knew if I denied her that marriage, you wouldn't listen to me, and Rowan would never forgive me. For some unknown reason, despite how you treat her and clearly don't deserve her, she loves you and wanted to spend the rest of her life with you. So, I put aside my personal feelings and gave you the permission you didn't need because I knew it would make her happy and that mattered more to me."
There was a little kernel of good advice in that slew of insults. Steve knew now, that when Wo said things like that he wasn't meaning to insult Steve or make him feel bad (maybe, he might actually). What he was just being objective, it a brutally savage kind of way. If Sin Nombre said it, though, it was definitely an insult or guilt trip.
"Well… thank you for your permission, and all your help with the wedding. I am very grateful…"
"Yes I know… did you get the answer you were looking for?"
"I did."
"Right, could I ask a question then?"
"Sure."
"Uh… what should I do to make my situation better? And uh… can you explain to me what exactly it is I did that was wrong? Not patronizingly either, cause I… I'm pretty sure I know what I did but I want to be sure…"
Steve smiled. "Yes, I can…" he said and then launched right into it.

Bridget had texted him to say that she couldn't meet for dinner as planned. She agreed to not bail entirely but to go for drinks. Danny had been suspicious right away. He was pretty sure that this was happening so she could spend more time with the goofball. Still he had agreed to meet her, for drinks, simply to call her out and maybe talk her out of a bad decision.
So he met her at the restaurant in the hotel, the Bali Steak and Seafood Ocean Front Restaurant, like literally they could see the ocean from the window. It was beautiful. Totally not the place for what Danny was going to bring up, but he didn't know when else to do this.
"You, uh, got time for an appetizer, maybe?"
"Yeah. Yeah..." she answered absently as she was way too busy with the menu
"Oh good," he said and then paused to compose himself. "So, uh, how was the, um, the seminar with, uhm, Spencer? Was it good? Did you have fun?"
"You wanna talk about family deductibles? I mean, if that's interesting to you, we can talk about family deductibles. Or we can discuss these jumbo lump crab cakes?" she made a bit of a wide eye roll at him which told him all about what she wanted to talk about, which was the crab cakes, but Danny wasn't about to let this go now.
"He, uhm… he seems like a nice guy, Spencer, right?"
"Yeah, he is. So you wanna split 'em?"
Great, either she was really fixated or she was trying to deflect. And since he knew his sister he knew it was the second one. Not good, nor was he letting her do it.
"Sure. Uh, what about, uh, what about… is he married?"
Her eyes narrowed at him and he inwardly groaned. Great she had figured it out. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. You?" She didn't believe him though because she was now staring at him with a confused but suspicious look. "I was just asking you a question. That's all."
"Asking what?" she asked, but Danny didn't want to tell her what he knew, only because Rowan was dreaming it and he had a hunch, cause if they were both wrong it would be a problem. But when he didn't answer she asked it again but with some added attitude so Danny knew that he had upset her. "Asking what, Danny? He's a colleague."
"I know."
"He's just a colleague."
"I know what he is."
"Okay, if you have something to say, just say it."
"Okay, I'll say it," Danny said despite reading all sorts of cues off his sister that warned him that he really shouldn't. "Whatever is going on, you need to stop it now."
"Oh you think you know what's going on?"
"Mm-hm, I know. Yeah."
"Really? So you know that every morning I wake up and I watch the ceiling fan and I just feel the air on my face and I love that moment because then the dog needs to be let out and I need to make breakfast for the kids and get them off to school. And then when school's done, I gotta race back. I have to make dinner, make sure their homework's done, walk the dog, and then it just starts all over again. I'm doing it all by myself. Ted's never around. I mean, our parents are never in town. And if they are in town, they need something. Guess who's handling all that?"
Yeah Danny could guess.
"Yeah. Me. Because you guys left years ago. I have no support. I have no one to turn to. Honestly, I feel like every day, I get closer to… completely disappearing. Until one day, I walk into work, and someone actually sees me." She looks like she's about to cry and Danny was starting to feel guilty.. "Spencer's a friend, okay? He's… he's there for me."
"Okay." He said and then shrugged. "I don't understand… do you want my blessing or…"
"For what? Nothing's even happened."
Yeah yet. But Rowan Pierce… sorry… Rowan McGarrett was never wrong. Actually he didn't know Rowan McGarrett's track record, but he figured it was as good as Rowan Pierce's.
"Nothing's happened yet."
"God." That one word came out of her with a crack, she was about to break down and he knew if he made his sister cry in this restaurant she'd never forgive him. "God knows you're a saint, Danny. But if you could just be a human being for one second. Can you even hear me? I am lonely. I am so unhappy. What am I supposed to do?"
"I don't know. I don't know. Go try therapy, get separated for a little while."
"Well I'm sorry. Unlike you, I can't just walk away from my children."
Oh wow, low blow.
"You know… my… um… my children can look me in the eye and they can know that I never lied."
And that was another low blow, which he figured was fair, because she had hit him with one, but it was the blow that broke the camel's back. Or Bridget's in this case.
The waiter chose that moment to come over but by the time he got: "Aloha, can I start you two off with some cocktails," she had gotten up and stormed away.
This left Danny sitting there alone. He had upset his sister, he wasn't sure he had made his point like he wanted to, and he wasn't going to get those crab cakes either.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Danny had come back from his that dinner with his sister and had been upset. Upset because he knew what his sister was going through, he had gone through something similar and he just didn't want her to make a mistake he had managed to avoid.
Then there was Steve's problem. He still needed to give Matt an answer, and Danny was no help because had didn't understand how his baby brother couldn't possibly be a good match for Mary. They'd be lucky to have him in his family, and sure, maybe that was true. But that didn't change the fact that Steve was just finding out about this now.
This had gone from finding out his sister had a serious boyfriend that she wasn't just dating Matt like she said she was, and trying to be okay with that to having to be okay with a proposal.
Granted the conversation with Wo Fat had worked wonders, he was reminded that this wasn't about him, it was about Mary and whether or not she was happy. Now he just had to find out if Matthew Williams made his sister happy and then go from there.
But they had a case to solve so they had to put all of that aside to figure out who killed their missing kid almost a decade ago. Which they did. It was the mom.
Then Danny wanted to go back to talk his to his sister and Steve had insisted on driving him there because well, he wanted to show that he was supportive. Not just of Matty but all the Williamses.
"You want me to pick you up?" he had asked but Danny had shook his head. He hadn't wanted the backup, besides, Steve wanted to go home to his family. So he was grateful when Danny turned him down.
Steve had begrudgingly said: "Just call me if you want me to pick you up," one more time to which Danny snapped: "I don't want you to pick me up."
So the bastard better not call him to pick him up if things went wrong, because Steve fully planned on cuddling with his wife.
Steve returned home, to find Matty and Mary cuddling on his couch, okay, ew, and his wife in the kitchen cleaning up dinner. He knew she had set aside a plate for him and he figured that they were all down there to at least watch him eat so he didn't feel left out.
He got a chorus of hello's from the adults but the two children In the house were clearly very busy playing. Joanie should have been in bed but she was having fun with Nahele so the adults had no doubt let her stay up.
"'Hele! 'Hele!" the little girl was crying while chasing Nahele around the kitchen. The two of them sliding everywhere in their socks. Every time Joan hit the ground, which was every two seconds, Nahele would cry: "Uh-oh spaghetti-os," to which Joan would echo: "Uh-oh pasgetti-o!" instead of crying.
The second she saw Steve though she screamed: "Uncle Steve," on the top of her lungs and sprinted for him. He caught his little niece immediately and had her up in his arms.
"Joanie!" he cried bouncing her a little bit as she smiled down at him. Steve didn't miss for one second the smile on his wife's face.
He had a feeling he was turning her on and he always loved doing that.
"Dinner's in the stove," Rowan called out and he shot her a little soft smile.
"Thanks babe," he said. "Is uh… is there any way I could talk to Mary? Privately?"
Matty stood right away and took Joanie right out of Steve's arms. "No problem, Nahele has been talking up something call Campfire nights…"
"YES I'll get the matches!" Nahele cried already scrambling for the supplies they'd need for s'mores. "Mom get your guitar!"
"Don't let Rowan play with matches," he called after his son which earned him a dry glare from Rowan but after a moment, they didn't in fact go out onto the lanai so Nahele and Matty could get the fire pit going and Rowan could play her guitar.
Steve went about pulling his dinner out of the stove and then Mary joined him at the table. He had a whole interrogation planned, but Mary just had to derail it.
"How are you liking married life?" Mary asked. Well, fine, she could try to put it off but Steve was going to have his serious talk with her whether she tried to deflect or not.
"Honestly there hasn't been much change between married life and before. But it's been great, I'm definitely liking it. I got a good girl, though," he said. "I'm told if you find the right person it's much more enjoyable."
Mary's eyes went to where Rowan was sitting beside Matty strumming her guitar and then to Nahele who was teaching Joanie the art of the perfect s'more.
"Yeah, you know… it really sucks that dad's not here for this. I think he would have loved her. Maybe not her criminal past, but he would love how she keeps you on your toes."
Yeah he thought so too.
"And he would have loved Nahele," she said and Steve nodded, yeah, his dad really had missed out on a lot and sometimes when he thought about that it made him sad.
"So you and Matty huh? A lot more serious than you made it out to be."
"Yeah… sorry Steve," Mary said softly. "I guess I was worried about what you'd think."
"Mary… I literally just married a girl who adopted the man who is directly responsible for our dad's death."
"Yeah you know I was going to ask about that…"
"I have not forgiven him," Steve snapped right away. "He's done things to me and our family that are not forgivable but…"
"But Rowan loves him…"
"It's not just that," he said softly. "I've seen him with her, you know… and it's like he's a completely different person around her… for her. And, well… when she gets into trouble he's a good ally."
"Yeah she said something similar."
"Well… where it comes to Rowan, both Wo Fat and I agreed that we would put our differences aside. We're not friends, or allies or anything at all…"
"Unless Rowan needs you two."
"Yes."
"I have learned to put other people's happiness before mine…" "—You already knew that Steve." "… I mean in the sense that I've put my feelings aside. I love Rowan, and she loves me, and I know that she'd never put me and Wo Fat together on purpose. She understands that I'll never forgive him for what he did to us and she has never asked me to."
"I will say he was very well-behaved at that wedding."
"He put that whole wedding together, did you know that?"
"I… no, I didn't."
"See, and Wo Fat feels the same about me as I do about him. But he put aside his doubts and hatred of me and let me marry Rowan. That was big for him."
"I bet it was."
"Enough about my girl though. Let's talk about your boy. How long have you two been like… official?"
"Well… after what Matt went through he's all about living his life to the fullest, so uh… after our second date he asked me to be his girlfriend, but uh… I managed to hold him off for like four months. He moved in maybe a month after that."
Steve nodded. "And uh… how is he…"
"Oh he's great, Steve. You should see him. He got a job as an accountant and he's taking courses to become a forensic accountant. He works a regular 9-5, he treats me like a queen and Joanie like a princess. I'm not saying we don't argue or have problems, we do, but they are greatly outweighed by all the good stuff."
"That's great, Mary. So you're happy, he makes you happy?"
"He does. I mean I'm worried he'll start embezzling again but I mean… I think that's always going to be a worry… right?"
"Yep. I know Rowan's not going to go to Vegas and count cards, or become a getaway driver again but I'm still worried that maybe, if she felt she had to, she might do it again. I'm more worried about Wo grabbing her again to be honest."
At that Mary laughed. "I doubt he would, I'm sure he's learned his lesson."
Yeah had he? He said he did. Rowan said he did. But he still wasn't sure he believed them.
"I'm glad you're happy Mary, you deserve to be happy."
She smiled happily at her brother and then let him finish his dinner in peace, telling him all sorts of funny and cute stories of her, Matt and Joan that proved that they were essentially their own family already.
When he was done and he had put his plate in the sink to soak before he would eventually return to wash it, they headed out to join their family.
Mary walked over to where Joanie was sitting on Nahele's lap and then took her from him. Even with all the sugar in her veins the little girl had crashed. Steve moved over to where Matty was, waited for his sister to be gone and then whispered: "Yeah. You got it."
Matty stared up at him surprised but Steve just clapped a hand to his shoulder and then stopped Matty from saying anything or trying to hug him.
"You wanna throw this around?' he asked his son, indicating to the football he had picked up. Nahele was up and out of his seat right away."
"Not too long, it is a school night," Rowan called after them.
Man he wished all his nights could end like this one.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
After Steve had dropped him off, Danny went straight for his sister. Luckily Danny remembered that Bridge was in Room 2112, so he let himself up there and then knocked on the door. He briefly thought about covering the peephole but that would be creepy. Despite knowing it was him, she opened the door, and was not happy to see him.
"What do you want Danny?"
"Uh… I don't want… I don't want anything," he said. His sister seemed to be in her PJs and he didn't see anyone in the room so maybe this was the one vision that Rowan was going to get wrong, or not come true. "I just want you to know that I love you very much."
He leant against the doorframe knowing that it would do no good to push into his place because his sister never fought fair.
"And I obviously do not have all the answers. If I did, I'd probably still be with Rachel. I'm far, very far from perfect. It's just that… Bridget, I know if you do this, you cannot take it back. And maybe it'd make you happy for a little bit but at the end of the day, it's just gonna make things worse."
She nodded, trying to blink back the tears in her eyes but she still looked away from him when she whispered: "Yeah."
"And all that stuff about you being alone is not true because I am here for you, always, always. You call me, I pick up the phone no matter what, okay? Forever."
And for a moment the two stared at one another, his sister finally smiled at him and said: "Thank you."
Right so that was him forgiven then.
"That's it. That's all I've got."
"Do you want to come in?"
"No, I don't wanna interrupt anything. I mean, you're all dressed up."
She laughed at him, because she clearly wasn't. "Get in here, you jerk," she ordered and he followed her in and then hugged her.
"Wait a minute. This… this is what you flaked on me for? A cheeseburger?"
"Yeah well, plans changed."
And then he glanced up to the TV. "You're watching Smokey and the Bandit?" He knew she was because he'd recognize that movie anywhere.
"Yeah."
"Without me? We watching like 6,000 times when we were kids."
"I know. I still love it."
"We burned out the VHS tape. I'm in." Yeah she was stuck with him too.
"You know what?"
"What?"
They're getting cozy on the bed.
"Steve kind of reminds me of the Bandit."
"Why? Cause he's reckless and arrogant?"
She laughed but shook her head. "Naw cause he's hot. In a law abiding, he'd totally put me in cuffs, kind of way."
"Yeah, well he actually used to put Rowan in handcuffs so feel free to ask her about it. But uh… don't tell her you think he's cute cause that glare thing she did to Spence or whatever, yeah, it's not so fun when it's on you."
"Yeah don't wanna chance that," Bridget said. "He's terrified of her by the way."
"Yeah, we all are."
They were quiet for a moment as the movie played and she ate her cheese burger and let him steal some fries.
"Remember when you tried to grow that mustache?"
"Yeah. Don't tell Steve about that, please."
"Okay."
Yeah but she said that in a sarcastic kind of way. "I'm serious."
"Ten-four, good buddy."
Seriously she better not. He'd never forgive her if she did. It was a good thing they made up cause if they hadn't Danny might have called Steve up on his offer and had him come to pick him up.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
The following evening they all went out for dinner at the restaurant in Bridget's hotel. They were the largest table. There was Steve and his family, Mary and Joanie, Matt, Bridget, Danny and his two kids. And it was actually a pretty good time.
He liked sitting their laughing with the Williams family, his arm resting lightly on the back of his wife's chair. He didn't even care that Nahele had chosen to sit with Grace and Charlie. It made sense that he would want to sit with someone closest to his age.
He and Rowan had had a talk when everyone had gone to bed. She told him how good Nahele was with Joanie, how great he'd be as a bigger brother. They both agreed that they weren't ready for that yet, but they did agree that they did want to have their own kids, at some point.
Steve was hoping for sooner rather than later though and he had been sure to tell Rowan that. Apparently that had been a big surprise to her, that they had come to the same conclusion, had the same little dream on the same proposed timeline. But it had made her smile and that was all he wanted.
At the end of the dinner they all headed back out of the building, Bridget coming with them to see them off. When they got to the front they found that the fountain was done up with twinkling multicolored lights. A soft romantic music was playing and, without Mary noticing, only she and Matty ended up in front of the fountain.
"I hope you don't mind if I stay standing," Matt said to her which earned him a patronizing smile because of course she wouldn't care.
Matty then took her hands in his and smiled at her. "Mary, as you've no doubt heard me say over and over in our relationship, I'm don't want to wait a second longer to be happy. So even though you think this is going too fast, I'm going to ask anyway," he went into his pocket and pulled out the ring box. "Will you do me the absolute honour in being my wife?"
Mary was a little weepy herself but she said Yes and then her family was all gathering around to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
But Rowan and Steve stayed back to let them breathe a bit, with Joanie on Rowan's hip. Had he mentioned how much he loved seeing a child balanced on his wife's hip? Like damn that was one hell of an aphrodisiac. Maybe he wouldn't wait, maybe he'd get her pregnant as soon as possible.
Steve looked around at the décor and took in the music and then leant in to his wife. "Did you help with this?"
"Only a little," she said. "Mary deserves an amazing proposal like I got."
That's true, he little sister deserved all the happiness in the world.
"I'm surprised you're taking this so well," Rowan said and Steve turned to her perplexed. "You know… that we're going to officially be family with the Willimases."
"Aw come on, we just got me on board, why would you say that?"
Rowan just laughed and kissed him on the cheek. God, maybe when this was done he'd call Wo and ask how he got over becoming an in-law to Steve.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Malcolm had said that he'd look into the whole Rowan Pierce thing, but he had put it off. He had told Trevor, over and over, that he was busy, he had work to do and all of that. But Trevor still called once a week.
He'd always start it off with how Malcolm was doing. He always wanted to know about the little bits of his weeks, the good and the bad, and then he'd ask about Rowan and if Malcolm had the time to look at her case.
Malcom had managed to put it off for almost half a year when finally, finally he looked over her file.
Firstly the file had been locked, it took him pulling in three favours to get the file unlocked and then unredacted. That alone was strange and it only got stranger.
So here was what he knew about Rowan Pierce.
In 2013 Rowan Pierce was fished out of the ocean by Commander Steven McGarrett of Five-0 and his partner Detective Danny Williams. They had been out at sea and either found her floating or she had fallen out of the sky. They had taken her back to the island and gotten her medical help including a complete psychiatric work up.
She was given a clean bill of health two weeks later and then she was shipped off to live with McGarrett.
Then all the weird stuff happened. Like Steve sending cops to pull her out of a party, to get her out of her boyfriend's apartment. Like she fell out a window at the McGarrett household. And later one, after the big twist, McGarrett started arresting her and holding her for things that weren't crimes. It got so bad that he got suspended over his behaviour. It got so bad there was a red flag on her file. There were lots of red flags.
But he was getting a head of himself.
The big plot twist that set McGarrett off had been that she had gotten kidnapped.
Wo Fat was a major crime boss, with a big grudge against McGarrett. He had taken Rowan, held her captive for almost two months and then shot her.
That's when things got twisted.
Rowan stayed connected with Wo Fat. To the point where he created an app to track and keep her safe. The Sanctuary Network could worm its way into any operating software with the purpose of tracking Rowan and keeping people safe. That meant if any agency wanted to question her that app relayed it to Wo Fat and he dealt with it.
Wo Fat and that App had gotten her out of hostage situation and several arrests.
There was even a whole year where Rowan was traveling with him, as her self-proclaimed brother. In fact that file answered only one mystery. Rowan Pierce was the Professional. She was the one who saved Trevor, she was the one who had called him, had known his nickname was Mal without ever meeting him before.
All it had done was raise more questions. Where had this girl come from? How did she manage to win the heart of the Head of Five-0 and with this dangerous crime boss? There was even a rumor that an assassin was a part of their crew now.
But most importantly, why the hell did Trevor care about this girl? And why did she save him from the Stepanovs?
Especially seeing as according to this file he had never met Rowan before she showed up in Victoria to fuck with the Stepanovs.
Malcolm could have called Trevor, but he had been avoiding the man's calls once he realized he had major questions about what had happened between the two. And for two weeks he just sat and stewed trying to figure out why it bothered him so much.
And when he kind of realized what it was that was bothering him, he got on a plane. He landed in Victoria and then wait straight to Trevor's apartment where he pounded on Trevor's door until the man answered, despite Malcolm forgetting about the time change and showing up in the early morning.
Trevor was completely shirtless, in nothing but tight fitting boxers and bleary eyed. "Mal?" he asked softly, because, just like Rowan Pierce, he had gotten into the habit of using his nickname. "What's the matter, am I in danger again?"
"Nope, no, I'm just pissed off," Malcolm said pushing past Trevor and into his apartment.
"Uh… okay?" Trevor asked shutting the door now that Malcolm was in the apartment. When they were in Witsec together Trevor was constantly bragging about his conquests but there didn't seem to be any guys in the apartment with him so that was good. Malcolm would have no problem kicking them out, but then he'd have to wait to confront Trevor and he didn't want to do that.
"You wanna tell me what you're mad at me about?"
"Well, for starters, why didn't you tell me the truth about Rowan? Huh?"
"What do you mean?'
"That she's the Professional."
"Uh… cause I didn't know that."
"And her brother?"
"Uhm… how did you…"
"It's in her file, he created a whole app to protect her,"
"Oh you mean Oz, right? Or Who Fat or something? He's not her brother."
"He's telling everyone that he is."
"Okay, so yeah, so what? I don't really know that much about her okay…"
"But you're practically obsessed with her. So why? You two are in love or something? You're bi? Why didn't you just tell me that?"
"In love?!"
Because that was what was really throwing Malcolm, that and the fact that he had figured out something about himself as well. Because if he was jealous that meant that he like Trevor, and honestly he had never questioned his sexuality before meeting that man.
"Malcolm, sit down," Trevor ordered and finally he did. Collapsing into Trevor's couch wondering if Trevor could tell that the problem was that Malcolm had some pretty confusing feelings for him. "Malcolm, I'm pretty sure that girl is my sister. Like my real sister. Not the one who died, but a version of her that… that me and my dad pulled from an alternate reality. And I can one hundred percent prove that to you, but the reason I didn't tell you is cause… well…that makes me sound crazy."
Yes it did make him sound crazy,
"Did you say I can prove it?"
"Yeah but my dad will want you vetted first. Cause, the video he has, it's fucking heavy shit. It's got major implications both to his field of study but he's worried that if the armed forces figure out it's weaponizable they'll go after her and well… you know we think she's our Rowan so that's not good."
Malcolm nodded and then turned to him. "And you were aware about her psychopathic brother…"
"Yeah I met the both of them. Who Fat was more quiet and dangerous, the other guy seemed normal but I also watched him kill three people with no weapon needed."
"His name is Wo Fat," Malcolm corrected and then sighed: "And you didn't think to tell me about them?"
"Well I mean I tried, but I don't know their real names…"
"Wo Fat and Sin Nombre. And they're major underworld players," he said. "And you want to take on him and potentially Five-0 to get at this girl?"
"Well… I mean we're pretty sure that McGarrett might be abusing…"
"And you expect me to believe that this interest in her is because this girl is your sister from an alternate realty."
"See that, that right there, that is why I didn't tell you."
Trevor collapsed to the couch beside him and Malcolm sighed. "I mean… it sounds unrealistic… but… if she really is the Professional… it would explain how she knew my nickname was Mal without meeting me. Right? Cause maybe she knew alternate reality me?"
"Why would you think that?"
"Because she said that's right I don't know you here, or something like it and… yeah… maybe that's why…"
"I'd like to know why you thought I was like… lusting after her, why was that what came to your head… and was that… was that what upset you?"
It was but now Malcolm didn't want to admit it. His cheeks colored but Trevor was grinning at him.
"It was, wasn't it?!" he cried and Malcolm crinkled his nose at him. "Do you like me Malcolm?"
"And so what if I do?" he thundered. "Is that really so bad?"
Trevor clearly wasn't expecting that though so he just sat there staring at him. And Malcolm sat there staring back, waiting for something, for some sort of response.
Maybe this was the wrong way to tell someone you cared about them. That they're smirk had made him question his own sexuality to the point where he daydreamed about kissing that smirk right off of his face. And dear god did he want to kiss him, kiss that stupid shocked look off of his face. But he was afraid to move, afraid that he had read Trevor wrong and he hadn't been interested in Malcolm at all.
But he didn't have to, because Trevor did it for him. Just leaned in through the distance and kissed him. As the fireworks exploded in his head the confusion firmly slid away. This was happening, this was him now and he couldn't be happier.
