A/N: Happy Wednesday my wonderful readers! It's another long chapter but hopefully you guys enjoy the McDanno moments, the Ro and Wo moment and Con being the loveable deadly buffoon that he is. Have you guys noticed it yet? Today I posted a new story called The Professional. It's a spin off of this one. If you guys remember, early in the story, during the April Fools Prank chapter, Trevor mentioned that in every alternate reality, a Steven McGarrett who found his Rowan, didn't let her go. Well, I've started writing the alternate realities! This one will be a lot shorter than Rewrite it should only be 22-25 chapters long and it's all about how Steve and Rowan would have met in the series if she hadn't been stillborn. So, don't forget to leave a review, or drop a fav or a follow, and if you want to check out the new story. See you guys on Friday!
Chapter 374
Steve had been having a rough day.
For starters, it was the first time he had embarrassed Nahele and he hadn't done anything.
He had dropped Nahele off at school, or at least he tried to. The kid had requested, nay demanded, that his dad drop him off around the block, and that under no circumstances, was he to drive him to the front of the building. And No he was not allowed to drop him off in the parking lot.
Until further notice Steve was banned from Kukui High grounds. Not Rowan. Just Steve.
Which was extremely hurtful cause Rowan hugged, kissed and fussed over him in front of his friends, she screamed things like: my baby on the top of her lungs when Nahele was on the football field. Rowan had gotten into a cat fight on Kukui grounds. But no. Steve was the one who was banned. Not Rowan. Steven.
He had gone to the Palace to do his job, to feel like he was good at something.
Then he made the stupid move of asking Danny about the list he had found on Danny's desk.
He had gone into Danny's office to borrow a pen, all of his had run out. That was all. Just a pen. And when he was in there, he spotted a piece of paper. Scrap paper. And on that piece of paper was a list. A list that was in Danny's hand writing entitled: The Things I like.
Steve had asked why Danny had made that list. And Danny flipped out about the privacy and how Steven shouldn't have been snooping. And Steve kept saying that it wasn't snooping. It was left out in the open, if Danny didn't want him seeing it, he should have hidden it.
Also, how important could this list be? It was all lies. Firstly, none of the things on that list were things that Danny loved. And, secondly, it was written on the back of a receipt.
But they argued, and they argued, and then it was time to go to HPD and give a little lesson to the new recruits going through the academy on trust and team building and how to successfully raid a building. And all was going well, Steve thought the argument was over, but no, no it wasn't. but now it wasn't because Steve mentioned trusting his team, and how important that was and Danny brought up the list on the desk.
And how he couldn't trust him now.
Which just led to them arguing. Again.
Then, in front of these young soon-to-be-cops, Danny asked Steve how he'd feel if Danny had gone into Steve's office and found that file of inappropriate pictures of his wife and then looked through it.
Firstly, how dare he bring that up in front of other people?
And secondly, that was different, that file of pictures was for his eyes only and was hidden and under lock and key. So, if Danny got to it, he would have had to have picked a lock and that was not what Steve had done.
Steve had found a list of things that Danny supposedly liked, out in the open on his desk. And he was very annoyed that on this list of things Danny had conveniently not put down Steve. Why the hell did no one like him recently?
Though Duke broke up the argument in front of the new recruits the argument continued in the car.
Steve tried to get Danny to understand the rule, that if it's in plain sight it's not snooping. He even hit him with the rhymes he knew.
If it's not hidden that's not forbidden, and, if it's not put away looking's okay.
Danny hadn't heard of either of those and he wasn't happy that Steve had brought them up. Mainly because he was certain Steve had made them up and that wasn't true at all.
Steve knew that this freak out had to be about something else. Something deeper, but Danny refused to talk about it, so what was Steve supposed to do?
He dropped him off at home, got into his own truck and headed home. Home to his wife who could make him feel better seeing as his team wasn't on his side.
Chin had the audacity to agree with Danny and then tell Steve he didn't want to take a side.
Steve hadn't wanted Chin to take his side he had been asking him to agree that he didn't do anything wrong.
But even coming home wasn't what he wanted either. All he wanted was a hug, to hold his wife, to have her potential side with him, or agree that he didn't do anything wrong.
Rowan had purposely said that she would be off for lunch that day, and Steve, if he hadn't caught a case, would also be off for lunch. She agreed to go for a run, with him, and then they'd have a light healthy lunch. Though to be honest, if he got his wife in his arms, and if she was in those skin tight leggings of her that he liked so much he was probably just going to initiate sex instead of going for a run.
But there was blood on the doorway when he walked in. And his heart lurched up into his mouth.
Her car was in the driveway so she had to be home and if she was the only one home then that meant that it was her blood. But he hadn't felt it. He hadn't felt like she was in danger, he always felt like he was in danger.
"Steven?" came her voice from somewhere in the house.
Steve, with gun in hand, answered her: "Ro!"
"Steven!"
Now that came out as more like a sob and Steve damn near lost his shit. He no longer had the gun up, it was back in his holster as he rushed through the living room.
"Where are you?"
"Steven hurry!"
He was following the blood trail, the bloody hand prints that had been left on every surface, dear god he was going to freak out if all that blood was Rowan's.
Luckily it wasn't Rowan's.
The giant pool of blood that was taking up the kitchen floor, though pooled around her, was not hers. It was Sang Min's. He had been shot in the shoulder and Rowan was pressing one of their decretive towels that she kept shouting at Steve for using to his wound.
"Hey McGarrett," Sang Min said through laboured breathing. "Sorry about the mess."
She turned wide eyes to him and cried: "He won't let me call 911 and Sandy isn't cooperating!"
Sandy wasn't what?
The Sanctuary Network is running smoothly and within operating…
"Oh my god! No, you're not because you're not listening to me! I need you to activate the Doctor Damn it Protocol!"
You are attempting to active the Doctor Damn it Protocol when Sanctuary has not detected an emergency that requires that Protocol in any of the codenames logged in my system.
"I do have an emergency, Sang Min has been shot, I can't call 911 and I need a doctor! Activate the protocol."
I'm sorry, I do not recognize that name.
Steve was already going back into his pocket for his own phone but Rowan was having a full out melt down.
"I don't care! Override! Doctor Damn it!"
You do not have the security clearance to over ride this command…
"Yes, I do! You're my program!" Rowan shrieked and Steve almost dropped the phone in his hand.
Sanctuary has not detected an emergency in the vicinity of any of the codenames in my programming…
Rowan roared, clearly very frustrated. It wasn't like Sandy to not cooperate, and Rowan was used to getting her way.
"God damn these new controls!" Rowan shouted. "I'm gonna kill Wo Fat!"
Oh he must have changed them again.
The good thing was that Steve knew who to call, so Sandy wasn't needed. It was an even better thing that it wasn't Rowan who was hurt. Steve wasn't certain he could have taken it if it was her.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Steve didn't have to worry about Rowan not being able to get a hold of her mob connected doctors. He had his own Doctor to call. And though Noelani didn't want to come, he could hear the hesitance in her voice, she did end up coming to the house.
She looked over Sang Min and went straight to work. By the time Steve came back into the living room she had a full diagnosis that she was ready to share.
"It's a through-and-through. Appears to have missed the brachial artery," she said. She was now onto cleaning out the wound. "He'll be okay, but he's lost a lot of blood."
"I didn't loose it. I've been sitting in it for hours waiting for McGarrett to get back from you know, dance class or something. X-men didn't even realize I was in the house at first. Went upstairs to change, came back down found me in the kitchen and screamed blood murder. You woulda thought she was the one who got shot."
Wow. Wow. So there had been a person in this house and she had no idea? That wasn't like her at all. Usually Rowan knew everything that was going to happen.
Steve handed him a glass of water to keep him hydrated. "That's very funny. You know, what you're saying there, it sounds like a complaint, but I'm gonna take it as gratitude for turning my kitchen into an OR how about that?"
There might have been more arguing if Rowan hadn't pounded down the stairs and distracted him.
"No, I'm fine, I told you I'm fine," Rowan said into her phone. She had gone upstairs to change and get the blood off of her. He had heard her in the shower, and though he wanted to join her he had stayed with Noelani and Sang Min.
Wo Fat must have called her when she had gotten out. Or maybe she had called him, she was mad at him after all.
She had come downstairs with a garbage bag, she was probably throwing her bloodstained clothes out. Shame, he loved her in her exercise gear. But the blue jean, and his grey sweater combo was also just as fucking attractive.
"Yes, I know I was trying to call for a doctor, but it's not cause I was hurt… No, Nahele is fine…" Rowan said and then paused as she listened to Wo. "And yes, Steve is fine too."
Aww, was Wo worried about him? That was sweet!
As she walked past Sang Min she put a bottle of prescription pills into his hand. Left over pain meds from his surgery no doubt. "Take two and that's it," she ordered.
Sang Min thanked her but Rowan was paying attention to that phone again.
"No I was not talking to you," she snapped into the phone. "Well maybe, if you hadn't changed my controls again, Wo…" she paused again listening to her brother on the other end of the line. "Well, I'm sorry it keeps updating you when nothing's wrong, but I had something wrong and she wouldn't fucking activate."
She paused again coming to stand beside Steve, who immediately slung an arm around her shoulder.
"I already told you, I'm fine, it was Sang Min who was hurt… what do you mean who is that? You know him, you've worked with him… yes you do Wo. The guy with the mullet… he talks funny… like he never learned English… Yes human trafficker, that's him… How was I supposed to know you call him Chicken Hair? …Well he's out of jail and he got shot and he was bleeding out in my kitchen… Calling a doctor with my resources is called for Wo! I'm the one paying for everything until you get back on your feet, so I'll do with my money what I…"
She took the phone away from her face and looked at it. "He hung up on me." Steve put a hand to her shoulder but her face had gone red and she shrugged him off. "He hung up on me? Oh that asshole!"
"To be fair you probably worried him for no reason… in the middle of the night."
"Oh shut up!" Rowan snapped moving away from him.
Great, Steve was just annoying everyone today.
Noelani turned a confused look to Steve who just smiled. "She has a love hate relationship with her brother," he said, which usually wasn't true. Usually, Rowan and Wo Fat agreed about everything, it was nice to see the two of them disagreeing for once.
"I don't mean to be out of line, Commander, but a house call like this is a little irregular."
Oh well she was going to get used to it. Cause this shit happened a lot.
"This man should really be at a hospital."
"Yeah, Noelani, I understand that. But the thing is, hospitals have to register and report GSWs, alright? Now, our friend Sang Min here, is an ex-human trafficker, smuggler, prisoner escapee who was put on trial for murder last year…"
"Whoa! Wait! Whoa… they got the wrong guy," Sang Min cried interrupting them. "I was acquitted." And then he turned to where Rowan was in the kitchen attempting to call Wo Fat back who was clearly avoiding her calls. "And where were you? I could have used you!"
Rowan glanced to him. "What? Your murder trial?" she asked absently. "I was in Toronto. Pick up the phone or I'll pop a portal and drop your ass into my bloody fucking kitchen!"
Right, Steve wasn't going to touch that with a ten-foot pole. He was going to wait for her to calm down. Noelani was clearly staring at him waiting for an explanation as to why Rowan was talking about portals, but Noelani wasn't ohana yet. So, he was going to pretend his wife didn't just shout that at her brother.
"My point is, I have to figure out what's going on first, alright?" Steve had put his hand onto Noelani's shoulder in a reassuring way.
It was not reassuring when Sang Min did it. "Yeah, don't worry. You with the Five-0 now. We make our own rules, baby. Ain't that right, McGarrett?"
Rowan grabbed Sang Min by the back of the head and pulled him back. "Stop being creepy or I'm kicking you out of my house."
"Our house, Rowan," Steve said and then turned back to Sang Min. "But she has a point, stop it. Just shut up and tell me what's going on?"
"No, I was not talking to you," Rowan said into the phone and Steve shook his head. Well Wo had picked up again. "No! I will not apologize for scaring you so early in the morning. You apologize for hanging up on me."
Wow! Was this the level of sass Rowan usually hit Wo Fat with? Because if so, how was she alive?
"Alright, look, I been out of the trafficking game for a while, you know that," he paused to wince as Noelani taped the second gauze pad to his chest. "But an old friend of mine called me up and asked me for a favour, said he was trying to get a refugee family onto the island. A mother and her two keikis. And being the, you know, humanitarian that I am, I agreed to help. Only I was played. There was no family in that container, it was a man, and he shot Xander."
Okay, explains where the gun came from.
"Alright. So, what next, what happened?"
"We rubbed each other with Tiger Balm!" he cried, clearly being sarcastic. "What do you think? I got my skinny ass outta there."
And while he was running the guy continued to shoot and Sang Min got one just below the collarbone.
"Can you believe it? You try to do a mitzvah and you end up catching a bullet."
"Okay. So, what you're telling me is that you do not know who this human cargo was or where he might be headed, is that right?" Sang Min shook his head. Great helpful. "Now, what about this friend of yours, Xander? What can you tell me about him?"
"Well, you know, back in the day, he was a… a logistics man for certain kinds of people, you know. Like your big bad brother-in-law," he said. Great so this guy knew Wo or had worked for him at least once in his lifetime. "You know, he could hook you up with a safehouse, fake documents, transpo. I thought he got outta the game years ago, but I guess I was mistaken."
"That doesn't sound right," Rowan said. "I don't know why but it doesn't."
"You didn't get anything about this?"
Rowan looked up to Steve and then back to Sang Min and then shook her head. See, it wasn't like her to not get something, even a tiny flash.
He hadn't been actively attempting to block her dreams or powers, so this shouldn't be his fault.
"No, I didn't mean your apology, your apology sounded just fine," Rowan said into the phone. Oh my god the man had apologized to her. Steve was past shook.
"Babe, I'm gonna need you to pick one conversation please," Steve said and Rowan nodded.
"Hey Wo, I gotta go," she said. "No, I'm fine, everyone is still fine. I'm sorry I scared you so early in the morning, I love you, go back to bed."
Then she was hanging up the phone. "Sorry."
Yeah, Steve was going to ask about that later, because he was just amazed that that conversation had happened, that Wo Fat had allowed that conversation to happen.
"Okay. Uh… so you're not getting anything about this?" Steve asked Rowan and she shook her head. Yeah, he didn't know if that was good or not. "Right. I'm gonna send a team down to the harbor to process and I'm gonna take you home."
"Sounds like a plan, Stan," Sang Min said watching Noelani finish taping him up, seemingly assessing the work she had done. "Then what, boss?"
"Then? No, no, then nothing. Your skinny ass is gonna stay put until I say otherwise."
"Whoa. House arrest. Got it. Hey, hey, hey, maybe call Spicy. You tell her to come babysit this, you know, hunk of a man!" he called as Steve walked away from him. "No, what about X-Men, can I have her? I'd feel super safe in her arms…"
Steve turned around, a dangerous glare on his face and Sang Min raised his hands in surrender. "Or not," he said before looking to Noelani. "Pst, hey. You single, sweet cheeks?"
Noelani just looked at him in disgust and from the living room he heard Rowan mutter: "I should have let him bleed to death."
She didn't mean it, and he knew that, but it still made him chuckle.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
The man in the container was Desmond Abati. He was a Nigerian national.
He was a bomb maker.
He was one of Interpol's most wanted. He had been connected to numerous IED attacks through the Middle East.
But he was more than just a bomb maker. He was training the top guys over at ISIS and Boke Haram. He was one of the world's most dangerous terrorists and someone had put a lot of time and effort into sneaking him onto the island.
That someone was Nadim Tahan.
He was a resident of Kalaeloa. He had been on the FBI's terror watch list for a while now but he wasn't considered a serious threat. Well, he was now.
They had also found a map of Waimea Falls jungle that had an area of jungle that was circled. It was just over an acre in size.
They first figured it was safe house, but that was way too remote. Then they got their second theory.
See, the reason that Tahan showed up on the fed's radar to begin with was because of this online post, this idea of creating a terrorist training camp on US soil. That little acre that was circled on that map would be the perfect place to set up a training camp like that.
And if Tahan wanted Abati up there it was to teach those terrorists how to make bombs.
Kono and Chin went to Tahan's house to see what was there, Steve took Danny with him to go check out the location in Waimea Falls Jungle.
Except since there were no roads in and no roads out and they didn't have time to hike it, they jumped out of the plane.
And of course, like the curmudgeon Danny was, he complained the whole time. Kept saying he dind't want to jump, because he didn't want to die strapped to Danny like an infant.
Then for the whole way down into that jungle he just said: "I hate you," and "When I tell Rowan she's going to kill you and I'm going to laugh."
Yeah, he better not tell Rowan cause she hated it when he jumped out of planes, kept telling him not to do it. Might have even threatened to divorce him if he kept doing it and if that happened Steve was going to end up on Danny's couch so he better not tell her shit.
Finding out it's about the uranium – the retirement convo - getting dragged into that camp and Con being there.
They were now walking through the jungle and Steve was sick of Danny's complaining.
"Why don't you just admit it, huh? Admit it. You loved it. Who doesn't love skydiving? In fact, I'm willing to bet that skydiving is gonna go on that list of yours, right after baseball and hoagies and complaining and…"
"I'm pretty sure hoagies and complaining was not on that list."
"No, it was not on the list but it should have been. Instead that list was full of things that you've never shown any interest in in your entire life. Like Travel."
"What are you talking about? I love to travel."
No. Lies. Lies.
"Danny, every time you're on a plane with me, you moan and groan the entire trip."
"That's because every time I am on a plane with you, there's a good chance I'm gonna die when I land, okay?"
Oh, so he was saying he liked travel just not with Steve? Buddy that was way past hurtful. What was with everyone today? It was like gang up on Steve day.
"What is your obsession with this list? Leave it alone, please."
Except Steve didn't want to. He didn't know why Danny felt the need to keep secrets from him. He had enough secrets between Rowan and Wo and Con, he didn't need them between him and Danny too.
"I don't have an obsession."
"Yes, you do."
"I have a mild curiosity, alright, that you would, A, write a list like that in the first place, and B, be so hypersensitive about it."
"Oh, so that means you're not gonna leave it alone, is that right?"
"You've known me for seven years now, what do you think?"
He was hitting Danny with his own sass, Rowan was right, since getting the liver he had been much better at being snarky. The least he could do is make Danny bear the brunt of it.
"Okay," he said being sure to clear his throat. "Okay. Hey, hey, hey. Okay. Listen. Stop for one second."
Danny had come to a stop and he clearly meant for Steve to do so too. So, Steve stopped walking and turned to Danny.
"You wanna know?"
Obviously, he did. That's why he kept bugging him about it.
"Yeah."
"Okay. I'll tell you. That was a list of things that I'd like to do when I retire, okay? You happy now? I said it, now we can continue. After you, please?"
Except Steve didn't move. What the hell did Danny mean by retire? They were too young to be thinking about that!
"I'm sorry. Excuse me. Retire?"
"That's what I said, when I retire. I'm coming up on 20 years, okay? I'm gonna pension out very soon. I gotta think about what comes next."
See, Steve was thinking that this might be a joke, but it was very clearly not.
"You're serious right now?"
"I'm absolutely serious. No, I wanna do this for the rest of my life with you." See the snark was not necessary. "Unlike you, I don't wanna do this."
Okay, Steve had managed to process this now. Retire, that wouldn't be that bad. He could do the whole list of Danny's with him, he wouldn't' mind that. And he'd have Rowan, and Nahele, and maybe some kids of his own by then. That didn't sound too bad.
"Okay. Alright. I just wanna get it straight, alright? You retire… you're gonna retire and then, uh, what?"
"I don't know. Maybe I'll open a restaurant."
And then Danny walked away like he hadn't just dropped the biggest bomb of the world on Steve. What… what the hell had that man just said to him?
"Open a restaurant?"
"That's right. A nice Italian restaurant. You know, like a… like a little neighborhood kind of joint. You know, use my grandmother's recipes, I'll be, uh, it'll be very nice… Where am I going?"
See Danny was saying that cause he didn't know where they were supposed to be heading, because Steve had the map. He should have directed his buddy but he was still stuck on Danny's retirement choice.
"An Italian restaurant on Oahu."
Danny stopped and let Steve pass him so he could follow the man with the map. "Oahu could use a nice Italian restaurant, don't you think? Anyway, that what I'd like to do and you are now free to mock me all you want."
"Oh, no, no, I'm not gonna mock you."
"No?"
"No."
"Okay," Danny said clearly not believing him.
"Let me tell you that 80% of restaurants fail in the first six months, though."
"Yeah, okay, we don't have to talk about this any more then."
Steve turned around to tell Danny that he was just trying to be helpful but what he got instead was a Nubian man with an assault rifle telling him not to move, while other men in Taliban and camo garb with their own guns surrounded Danny.
Yeah. This wasn't good.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Con took a long drag on the cigarette that he was smoking as far away from the TATP that these idiots were cooking up.
When Wo heard about this place, he had called Con right away. But Con was busy trying to find Dr. Gray in Colorado and dealing with Rowan's bullshit situations. When he was given vacation time, Wo had called right away and asked if he'd be willing to infiltrate this group, seeing as he was almost 75% certain that they had his uranium.
They needed that uranium off island before Rowan or Steve found it.
Problem was, they knew Sin Nombre was attached to Wo Fat, so they wouldn't hire him for contract work. That meant he had to drop the Sin Nombre moniker and leave the mask behind. He had one of his associates vouch for him under the name of Conrad Bastian, and that got him in as a guard. He wasn't there to learn shit, he was there to make sure no one found them. That was it.
But if they found out he was Sin Nombre they'd try to kill him, and he wasn't entirely sure he could take them all. Ah, who was he kidding, he could end these twits in seconds, he just didn't want to deal with that.
He confirmed that Wo's Uranium was in fact in that camp, and that they had already put it in a bomb.
Wonderful, now how was he supposed to get it back?
Well Wo was going to think of a plan, potentially fly into Hawaii to deal with the situation, but he needed to be sure that he had a way off the island with that Uranium first. One that didn't involve asking their sister to throw them.
Now he was just waiting for Wo to get back to him, four days of waiting on top of the week and half he had spent in this stupid jungle. He was not made for roughing it anymore, a year abroad with Rowan in posh hotels and a mansion safe house had him spoiled. But once he had word, he was going to decimate the camp, Wo would deal with the Uranium and Con would be outta there.
"… Those yellow things on their belts are dosimeters…"
Why the fuck did that sound like Steven fucking McGarrett.
Con turned, and saw that it was Steven McGarrett and his little blonde partner with the sweet Camaro, hands up in surrender being lead through the camp, guns trained on them.
Well fuck him.
He threw the cigarette away, not caring where the fucker fell and moved towards them. They were herding them towards the grove of trees Con had set up the second he had got there. The execution zone.
To establish his dominance, he had picked a secluded area, dug a pretty deep hole, and then shot the first person who questioned him and his ability and put their body in the hole. He then told all others that if they were going to disrespect him, or the cause that's where their bodies would be put. As would anyone else who trespassed here or posed a threat.
It was a scare tactic that worked, and now he was going to have to save McGarrett from it.
"What's going on?" Con asked once he got close tot hem. "I didn't approve this."
"We found them wandering the territory. They're cops."
Yeah, no shit.
Steve had turned at this point, a sort of smug smile had played across his lips. It was because he knew that Con wouldn't leave him to die, that because he had married Rowan, Con was going to have to save him.
Except… if he didn't… he could solve some of his own problems. Rowan would cry but… he could help her get over McGarrett… right?
They obviously assumed that he wasn't going to stop them, because they shoved McGarrett forward and right away he shot a worried glance to Danny.
Con could do this, he could just let them die… except… he didn't really want Danny to die, he had two kids to worry about… but if he saved Danny but not Steve, he'd tell Rowan.
And what would Wo say if he let Steve die? He'd be disappointed for sure because Wo hated it when Rowan cried and if Steve were to die, she'd cry a lot.
God he was going to have to rescue this idiot.
With his mind made up he pulled the knife from his back and moved up to the first guy, the one on Danny. He grabbed him by the mouth, and slit his throat. Then, when the second guy, the one who was on Steve, turned to him he took that knife and hurled it with all his might, right into the man's throat.
Both of them went down and Con picked up one of the automatic rifles.
The others in the camp were converging on their location but that didn't matter. Steve knew how these men handled with a gun, and all of them were terrible.
The first three men came from the right, they clearly had no idea that Con had turned on them, and were quite surprised when he mowed them down.
"Go for Abati!" Steve was crying, already taking off after the new guy who had come in that morning. Was that really all he was there for? Maybe he'd let Wo have the uranium then if Con didn't kill the guy they were after.
So, he focused his attention on everyone else.
They knew he was a traitor now, so they were coming at him more with violence in mind than to back him up. The first guy came at him with a machete from behind, Con saw that coming and kicked out behind him and then turned around and shot him.
Two men sat themselves behind a low table to shoot at him, but again, he knew none of them know how to aim so he just charged them and then shot them both when they got up to get away from him.
One guy side tackled him when he got to the tent, but Con managed to switch grips and throw him down to the ground. The assault rifle was out of bullet by that point, so he pulled out one of his pistols and just shot the man in the head.
He almost got clipped by two men hiding behind trees. He'd have to loop around for them.
There was a man sneaking up on McGarrett, who was still shooting at Abati who he had yet to fucking hit. How hard was it to hit one guy?
Con shot that man in the back, but because he was out in the open, he ended up getting surrounded. Right so that might have been a trap, but he was okay with that. None of these guys had guns, they were the crew who thought they were better with hand-to-hand combat.
Their circle got closer and closer to him until eventually one man tried to hit him, he deflected that and punched the man, then had to deflect a kick, but hat sent him staggering back into a man behind him, who grabbed him.
Right so they were hoping that if they got his arms, he'd be defenceless.
Fools.
The first man came to hit him, and He jumped, his feet met the man's chest, and he pushed off. This knocked that man down and took the Con and the guy behind him down. He flipped back to avoid the next man who was kicking down on him. He kicked his friend instead. Getting up, he blocked one hit and managed to hook his arm around the other man's, when he twisted the arm popped out of joint.
He threw that man down, pulled his second revolver out, and shot them all. The one with the broken arm, the one on the ground, the two behind him and the last one trying to run.
There came the roar of an ATV engine and when he turned around Abati was getting away.
Seriously? But Con had dealt with everyone else, how had they failed to get the guy?
"Wow, really?" Con asked, but Steve wasn't listening. He had moved away and was heading towards one of the guys Con had shot. So Con followed him.
Both Steve and Danny were standing over a guy who was still alive, but barely, and by barely he meant that the man was dying.
"Hey where's the Uranium?" Steve kept asking him. But why?
"It's in the bomb," Con said and Steve turned to him, right so they didn't know that part. "So uh… your guy got away, cause… uh… you guys apparently couldn't handle one man while I took out everyone else… so uhm… you can go get him and I'll take the bomb to Wo and he'll get his uranium back and we're all happy."
Steve shot him a glare and while they were arguing they failed to notice the man pull something out of his pocket. It was a detonator.
He pushed the button before Con could stop him.
"Well, that's not good."
Steve just stared at him as he stalked over to the truck where the bomb was resting under a tarp. He pulled the tarp away to reveal it.
The two men with him took it in.
"Okay so we have an hour, can either of you diffuse it?"
"I wasn't here when they put this together," Con said as Steve shrugged and said: "If I had an instruction manual, maybe."
Then he turned to Con and asked: "And why the hell did you pause like that? Were you really going to let them kill us? And why are you up here? Did Wo send you up here to get his Uranium back? It's not his Uranium by the way, and it needs to be disposed of correctly. How long has he known this was up here? Why didn't he tell me?"
Yes, I was going to let them kill you. Yes, Wo sent me up there to get the Uranium back. It doesn't matter who it belongs to, but Wo wants it and I want to get it back to him because he needs it more than you do. He's known about this place for probably a month, and he didn't tell you cause you're a fucking narc!
"You just hit me with a wall of words, while we're staring at an armed bomb, does any of that even matter?" he asked and Steve had to pause to actually think about it. Con was shaking his head. "Why are you even here? How'd'you find out about this?"
"We were following Abati."
"He got here like four hours ago, what do you mean you were following him? What did he do in ] four hours to get on your radar?"
See, Steve needed to go with the bomb. A, because he needed to get that Uranium and stop Wo from giving it to the Chinese and, B, because it was armed and he didn't know how to diffuse it and he didn't want it going off.
He also needed Sin Nombre to go after Abati, because Abati would know how to shut this thing off, and Con could get him to talk faster. He didn't want to pull one of his favours so he did something he shouldn't have done.
"He shot Ro."
It was a complete and utter lie, but he knew, if Con believed him, Abati didn't stand a chance.
Con went completely still. "What?"
That single word dropping from that man's mouth sounded terrifying. There was a darkness coming over his features that seemed almost demonic.
"Sandy didn't report anything…"
"Wo has it on the downlow," Steve lied. "Because he got away, he didn't want him to come back and finish off the only witness. I realize now that he did that because he knew about this."
Con looked from his phone to Steve. "How did this happen?"
"She intercepted him, I don't know how yet cause she's not awake, and I can't ask her, but he shot her. So that's why I'm here, that's why I'm looking for him."
"He shot… my mami?!"
"No, he shot my wife."
"He shot my mami?!"
The man had thundered that sentence. His words had a sort of power around them, and he was stead fast getting more and more angry. Uh oh. Not good.
"She's fine. It was just her shoulder. It's a through and through. She lost some blood but she's going to be fine," Steve said.
"I've been gone less than a week, and you let that man shoot my mami?!"
Oh wow! Wow, so he was just going to blame him? It wasn't like he just let Rowan run wild, she got herself into shit under all three of their noses all the time.
"Con!" Steve shouted. "I've got to stay with the bomb, can you go get him or not!"
The man's eye twitched that yellow was getting paler by the second. But he suddenly shouted: "He's dead!" on the top of his lungs and then ran off for the second ATV to chase down Abati down.
"And you're gonna be dead too when he finds out you lied," Danny hissed. "Why did you tell him that?"
"We need him alive to diffuse the bomb, Con!" Steve screamed after the guy but he didn't acknowledge him. "Con!... Con!"
But the man was gone. Great. Okay, he'd worry about that later, he had someone else he needed to call.
Steve pulled out his phone and called Wo. The man picked up on the second ring. "This better be good."
"I found your uranium," Steve said and Wo went quiet. "It's in a bomb, did Con tell you that?"
"Yes, I had him infiltrate the group to sit on it, figure out a good way to move it. Why are you there?"
"How long have you known… you know what it doesn't matter. I need you to distract Rowan."
"Okay. And my Uranium?"
Wow, no explanation needed, he was just going to do it? Wow!
"I'm not giving it to you, Wo. I need to disarm a bomb and Con is going after the guy who made it to get that info."
"And you told him not to kill him, right?"
"Uh…"
"Okay I'll tell him not to kill him."
"Kay I told him a lie to get him to do it… so maybe back me up with that?"
"What kind of a like?"
"A Rowan is hurt kind of lie."
"Are you crazy? He goes rabid if he thinks she's hurt. He's not going to keep that man alive for questioning, he's just gonna kill him," Wo snapped but Steve sighed.
"It wasn't my best idea but I didn't want to waste one of my favours on this…"
"You realize he's going to hit you, right? Like he's going to realize you lied and he's either going to bitch slap you or punch you and Ro will not be able to stop him."
"And I will be fine with that, can you distract Ro or not?"
"Yes, but you're going to owe me for the Uranium."
And then he just hung up on him. No goodbye, he didn't talk him through the plan, he just… hung up. Well with that done he moved on to the other thing he had to do. Because there was no way he could let Rowan find out about his, she'd come to help him and he wanted her as far away from this dirty bomb as possible.
"Sandy I'm going to need you to fully shut down on both my phone and Danny's until Rowan turns you back on."
Hello Codename Captain America. You have requested a complete deactivation of both you and Codename Jersey with reactivation only upon the Professionals request. Confirm?
"I confirm."
Are you sure?
"I'm sure, Sandy. I need you to fully shut down."
As requested. Sweet dreams. Sanctuary going night, night.
As soon as he hung up, Danny glared at him. "Really? You couldn't have waited for us to call for help first?"
Fuck he hadn't thought about that. He was just concerned about this getting back to Rowan. He didn't want her anywhere near this bomb when he had no idea what her powers would do it.
But Danny was right, he should have waited, because with Sandy he had service. With Sandy he could have called someone to help him shut down that bomb.
Steve had fucked up.
