Chapter 398

"They really have a party here?" Nahele asked, his neck craned back to look at the giant brachiosaurus skeleton looming above them.

The ROM was their first official stop on their touristing tour, which was because it was right across from their hotel.

"Yep. In there, they have a dance floor and tables set up for alcohol. They have food stations set up all over, and you get to wander around and drink and eat and dance and have fun amongst all of the exhibits."

"That is so cool!" Nahele cried and then turned to where his mom was standing beside him, she took staring up at the giant fossil above them. "I really wish we could go."

"Well you're underage…."

"We'd have to sneak him in," Con said, he too standing beside Rowan, also looking up. "I seriously cannot comprehend how things that big actually lived in our world."

Steve smiled at the three of them before turning to Wo who had been standing beside him, looking down at his brand new sweater.

Rowan had this trip planned long before they actually landed in Toronto. So she had packed all their matching sweaters they had gotten for Steve's birthday.

Steve was in his triceratops sweater, Nahele had the brachiosaurus and Rowan had the T-Rex. When they got there, with Wo Fat and Con, it was clear they felt left out, so the first actual stop in the ROM was to the gift shop where they bought their own sweaters.

Wo Fat had gotten himself a raptor one and Con had bought the Brachiosaurus one. Which was silly because it was summer, and surprisingly Toronto was hot. Maybe not Hawaii hot, but the heat was heavy there and there would be no rain to cool them down later. Toronto was dry and humid and hot.

The inside of the ROM, however, was cold, luckily, and their hotel was across the street. They'd survive if they kept their sweaters on, or they could take them off when they left.

They'd decide when they left.

"So where do you guys want to start?" Rowan asked the men.

Wo Fat, who was carefully examining the floor map that came with their tickets, said: "Well, your favourite is Egypt. Con will most likely want to see the dinosaurs… I don't really care what Steve wants to see." He then looked up to Nahele. "Is there something you'd want to see?"

Nahele glanced to his dad to find Steve scowling, he bit back a snicker because apparently the face that Steve was making and Wo was ignoring, was hilarious. He clearly wasn't ready to answer that question because he simply turned back to his Uncle Wo.

"What about you? What's your favourite?"

"Precious Gems," Rowan and Con said right away and in sync and Steve had to nod cause yeah that sounded right up Wo's alley.

Wo Fat didn't even look upset. "They apparently have a giant golden loon here? I'm very interested in…"

"Loonie, Wo, it's a million dollar golden loonie."

Nahele glanced to Rowan. "What the hell is a loonie?"

"It's a coin," Con said. "Canada has weird coins. A loonie and toonie."

"A loonie is worth a dollar and it has a loon on it. And a Toonie is worth two dollars and you can guess why we call it that."

Nahele turned to Con. "Yeah, you're right, Canada has weird coins."

"Okay, I know no one cares, but my favourite exhibit is the Bat Cave, and I'd love to go back there," Steve said, interrupting the banter going back and forth and then carefully stared at Rowan who's eyes were wide and her face was red.

She was also refusing to look at him, which meant she knew exactly why he had said that exhibit.

Both her brothers took that in, exchanged glances and then Con said: "Hey, come on kid, why don't we start with the dinosaurs and then do the rest of the stuff and see which one of those is your favourite?"

Nahele was immediately excited skipping off, calling for his mom and dad to join him.

Rowan moved to follow but Wo Fat kept Steve back.

"If you think I'm going to let you sneak off to have sex with my sister in the Bat Cave, you have another thing coming."

Steve turned a giant grin onto him. "That easy to tell that's what I was hinting at huh?"

"You might as well have been wearing a neon I fucked her in the Bat Cave sign. I mean, who even has sex in a museum?"

"Oh and you're saying if Jian wasn't here the two of you wouldn't want to slink of somewhere to…"

"I'm too old for sex standing up. I like putting down my moves on the bed… where no one has to be lifted or can be dropped. And besides, Jian's a lady and…"

"So totally, then."

"Oh of course if she was down for it," Wo said. "But that doesn't mean I'm going to let you get laid here again. The two of you have too much sex as it is. All I need is for you to get her pregnant in the ROM. No thank you, she's unmanageable as it is, imagine her with raging hormones."

Steve shook his head, this was because they could technically hear the two of them going at it through the wall in their hotel.

Wo was never going to let that go apparently.

He had a point about those hormones though. Her pregnancy hormones were probably not going to be good for anyone involved.

But Wo was also done arguing, and instead was walking way to join the rest of the family as they moved through the museum. So Steve jogged to keep up.

The next day Rowan took them to the CN Tower.

Once again the two Uncles were with them, as this was something that they didn't manage to do with Rowan before they had to flee from Toronto. Steve didn't know why they had to flee at first, but then Wo made it clear that they had left Toronto in a panic after Rowan had called him on his birthday.

It was an open channel, Wo Fat had growled. He had been certain that Steve had tracked the call, and he did, later. By then Rowan was gone, because Wo Fat had very wisely ran away.

So Wo Fat had packed them up and left. Which was pretty smart of him, if Steve was being honest because if Steve had found them in Toronto, he would have gone to get her.

So they agreed on the CN Tower, the tallest building in Canada, to go up that day.

They were all in casual outfits. Jeans and tee-shirts, no matching sweaters today. Except for Wo Fat who, for some reason, put on a three piece suit when he found where they were going.

Rowan paid their entrance fees, they stood in line to go up the elevator and after a little bit of a wait it was their turn to go up.

When they got up Rowan produced a pamphlet of all the things they could do up there, Nahele was super excited to do something called a Sky-walk. There was a restaurant that spun that Rowan wanted to eat in at some point. Steve and Con were both very interested in standing on the glass floor.

But when they asked Wo what he would like to do they found that he was still by the elevator, his back pressed to the wall, staring at all of them with an unknown look on his face.

Right away Rowan, Con and Nahele were beside him trying to figure out what was wrong, while Steve stayed back.

Wo Fat wasn't his biggest fan still, though they did have some sort of comradery forming between them, and he didn't want to overwhelm him. And the man definitely looked overwhelmed.

They kept asking him if he was okay, and he kept saying he was, but he wouldn't let them pry him away from the wall. Like at all.

Steve had figured out right away what was wrong with the man, he just didn't want to say anything, didn't want to embarrass him or damage his pride. But Con figured out and he didn't seem to care about Wo's pride at all.

"Are you scared of heights?" Con asked with a grin and Wo Fat turned a glare onto him.

"I'm not afraid… I just have a healthy respect for them…"

"Do you wanna hold my hand?" Steve asked, like he had once done for Danny when he had been too afraid to go into a tunnel, enclosed space and all.

Much like Danny, Wo Fat did not appreciate the gesture and instead stared at that offered hand like one eyed up a poisonous reptile.

"Is that why you put on the suit?" Con asked his grin growing. "Because it makes you feel braver?"

Wo Fat's frown darkened which meant that was true and it was Rowan stepping up to the rescue.

"Boys, leave him alone, if he doesn't want to come with us, he doesn't have to. He can stay here, and we can regroup with him later."

"Aww, but Uncle Oz shouldn't be on his own," Nahele said with a pout.

"I'll be fine," Wo said but Nahele was frowning up at his Uncle Con.

"Shouldn't you stay with him?"

"What? Why me?"

"Because he's your big brother, and… and… Uncle Oz doesn't like my dad…"

Steve had to nod because that was true. "And he took the heat off of you on the boat when you came up wearing that stupid looking lifejacket," Steve added and Con frowned.

But he clearly thought about it because he turned to Wo and said: "He's right, you did back me up on the boat, so… you know, I'm going to hit you with what you said to me that day."

"Please don't."

"It's okay to be afraid, fear is good for you. But you can't let it control you. So what we're going to do is we're going to make you comfortable with it, we're going to give you the armour to help you through it, so what's it going to take? For me it was a lifejacket… maybe Rowan can pop us a parachute to strap onto you in case you find a way to fall off?"

Wo Fat frowned again, glanced to where Steve, Rowan and Nahele were standing staring at him with wide eyes and silent awwws on their lips.

"Just… I unno, hold onto me or something," he said softly and right away Con grappled onto his arm. "You too kid."

Nahele scampered over and held his hand and then looked to Wo Fat because the two of them were the same height. "Thanks for holding my hand, Uncle Oz, I'm super nervous about this."

It was a bold face lie but it made Wo Fat smile. "Yeah, me too," Con said from the other side and Wo Fat laughed at that one.

"Okay, don't have to lay it on that thick," he said and then he lowered his voice to say: "But thank you."

Steve smiled at them as they went and the glanced to his wife.

"Do you want to hold my hand too?"

"I always want to hold your hand," she said taking the hand he was offering and lacing her fingers with his and because he was such a dork his heart rate kicked up.

Everyone kept saying that he should have been out of the honeymoon phase with his wife, but he wasn't.

And he loved it.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

A few days after the CN Tower, a few days that were filled with all manner of tourist attractions and other things to shower Nahele with, Rowan ended up at Trenton's lab.

When she booked the Blue Jay tickets for her boys and not herself, she told them it was because she wanted a night to rest and for them to bond. Truthfully she had wanted one on one time with her father now that he knew who she was and all of that.

A conversation she knew she could have with Steve and her brothers hovering over them.

So she had booked them full with things to do with Nahele. The Toronto Zoo, the Science Center, the Bata Shoe Museum, the Eaton Center, Medieval Times, they even did a day trip up to Niagara Falls. It was honestly a lot and it was super easy to pretend that she was too tired for a baseball game.

Mainly because she was too tired for a baseball game. And she wasn't all that interested either.

But the boys were and she could spin it as bonding time, so in the end they ended up going and not questioning her much.

The second they were gone, she left the hotel and walked over to her dad's lab.

She found him in his office, having just finished a lecture and was attempting to relax before he had to go to another one. The man smiled when she walked in.

"Rowan!" he said warmly, standing up so she could give him a stiff and awkward hug. They were working on being more comfortable with one another, but it was hard.

She kept having to remind herself that this wasn't really her dad.

Her dad was in her universe… possibly wondering where she was. Probably worrying too. Did he feel bad that it was his inventions that caused her to tumble into an alternate reality? God she really hope he didn't feel bad.

Not for the first time she wished she could send her family some kind of message, just so they knew that she was alright.

She pulled out of the hug and then sort of smiled sheepishly at him.

"Hi… uhm… I guess we never did discuss what you'd be comfortable with me calling you…"

"To be honest, I'd love it if you called me dad," he answered, avoiding her eyes.

"Really? Aw that would be great… uh… dad," she said and found the man across from her beaming widely at her. "I uh… I guess I wanted to ask a few questions, maybe talk to you about some things… without my brothers or Steven hovering over me…"

"They're quite protective of you," Trenton said with a sigh and she nodded, because they really were.

But seeing as Trenton and Trevor were convinced that she was being abused, it probably looked bad that they were the way they were with her.

"I know, but uh… I get myself into trouble a lot… and uhm… I got tortured once and Wo had to come rescue me… he uhm… he hasn't been the same since."

"Was the torturing the incident that sent you to me?"

"No," Rowan said quickly. "No, uh… it happened that year but earlier on. It was how Steve and I broke up. Wo Fat had to come and get me out and he… he said it was bad, I don't really remember, but he just…. Yeah… it just changed him, he's been super protective since."

"Well I suppose that makes sense."

They were quiet a moment before the question Rowan had on her mind exploded out of her.

"Could I ask… uhm… why? Why did you guys pull me?"

"To be honest, I hadn't set out to pull you," Trenton admitted. "The experiment was to pull an object from one world to another. The first couple of times I tried, my mind was stuck on you, and my experiment failed. I couldn't, in good conscience continue knowing that I could potentially pull someone else, so I called Trevor in to help."

Well that made sense, but then how did she end up getting pulled?

"Trevor admitted that, when he was doing the experiment, he too was thinking about you. Losing our Rowan, it broke our family. Your mother…. Roselyn I mean, she never quite bounced back, was never quite the same after. And I… well I dove into my work and Trevor…. Trevor got left behind I guess. He thought that if he brought you here he'd get his family back."

Aw… that was kind of heartbreaking. Poor Trevor, he had never wanted her around in her world, now she had a Trevor who wanted her so badly that he pulled a version of her across the universes. Though, in true Trevor fashion, he really only wanted her to get his family back together.

"Granted we lost you in transit but I managed to track you to Hawaii and well, Trevor went with me to find you and well…. I guess you know how that ended."

"Yeah, you picked a bad time to come down and find me. Steve was not in a good place…"

"Yes, he mentioned, but I can't help but feel like that shouldn't have mattered," he said. "I know you've married him and you seem to be in love and he says he's changed but… honestly Rowan, most domestic abuse partner feel like they can't leave."

"That's not how I feel," she told him with a shake of her head. "I know it looks bad, I do…"

"Then you're happy. You're truly happy with him?"

"I am, daddy, I am. I promise you," she whispered.

It was the fact she called him daddy that got him. He seemed to inflate the second she used that accolade.

"Well, then I suppose I have to believe you. I'd be more worried about your brothers if I hadn't watched you boss them around when you were here. I suppose if you can handle your Oz, Steven must not be much of a threat."

"He really isn't," she said. "Trust me, between my powers and Con and Wo, Steve won't be able to keep me if I want to leave."

Trenton smiled, clearly relieved that this was the case.

"I do have one more question though," she said and he nodded to her. "Do you want to see it? The void I mean?"

"See it?"

"Yeah, I can take you in, would like to see what it looks like from the other side?"

Trenton was up right away. Rowan stood too and simply offered him a hand.

"Don't worry, I've got it all figured out, you won't need any safety gear."

She could tell that he was hesitant, but he eventually took her hand and when he did, she opened up that portal beneath them and they dropped into the void.

As she was prone to doing, a bubble wrapped around them, so he wouldn't feel the crushing cold weight of the void and he got to see around it.

She pointed out the different strings, showed him how she used them to look at different outcomes, to go to different places. She showed him the red strings between her and Steve, and the wall of strings stopping her from getting home.

And then when they were done with the tour she asked him what he thought, if it lived up to his expectations.

His answer was what she expected.

It was everything I dreamed of and more.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

That Friday was a Friday Night Live at the ROM.

Rowan and Steve had talked it up so much that everyone wanted to go.

Wo Fat had asked super nicely if Rowan could pull Jian there to him, so they could enjoy the party together, and she had said she would try. Con had lamented that he would be alone at the party since the two couples would be there, and Rowan admitted that she planned to sneak Nahele in.

By pulling him to the ROM when they got there.

She was hoping Con could babysit.

Con had been livid, or more, he pretended to be livid. He kept muttering on about how he was more than a babysitter, and how he never would have agreed to take Ro on if he had known two years later he'd still be babysitting. And for free now!

But when they got to the ROM, when she pulled Nahele to them, Con instantly went into protective Uncle mode. He downed that drink and it was the last alcoholic drink he got that night.

But Nahele wasn't the only person Rowan pulled that night. Once she had him under his Uncle's watchful gaze she went back to the washroom and pulled the second person for the night.

When she returned to the main lobby she had Jian with her. Jian had gotten dressed for the occasion.

She had picked this sparkling champagne mini cocktail dress, matching high heels and accessories. Her hair was nicely curled and lying in voluminous waves past her shoulders.

The second Wo Fat saw her he perked right up.

His sister was completely forgotten, brushed to the side to wrap Jian up in his arms. Right so she had basically lost her brother for the night, and she was fine with that.

Steve resolved to stay close to Rowan, assuming that, now that both brothers and their son were distracted, they could sneak off. Except Rowan hadn't wanted to do that.

She took to the dance floor with her own son, twirling about in that way she had of hers to the music with both Nahele and Steven beside her. She would sway and twirl with her drink in the air, taking turns to twirl around Nahele or grind against Steve.

When Nahele wanted a drink, Steve offered to take him, leaving Rowan with Con. When they got back to dance floor, they found that Wo Fat and Jian were there, in the middle of the floor, in a slow dance formation, despite the lively bouncy club tune that was thundering through the speakers.

His head was bowed to hers, both of them had eyes closed and Steve had a feeling that, if he could convince her, Wo was going to get Jian somewhere private for some lively, public sex that he was always shaming Steve for. And judging by the way Jian seemed to be tightly gripping Wo Fat's suit, she was going to be more than willing.

It was Con and Ro that caught Steve's attention because Con has his hands on Ro's waist. They were moving in a way Steve already knew was Latino because she had done this before with JC. But there was something… different from the last time.

Everything seemed so much more deliberate, a little more romantic than raw passionate dancing. Maybe it had something to do with the way Con seemed to be angling downward, like he was trying to get his head by Rowan's neck.

Steve was moving right away. He got a strong arm on Con and ripped him away, hating how foggy his eyes were with some sort of lusty passion. A kind of passion that Steve didn't really want to recognize, but did.

He didn't have to say anything to Con, the second he saw Steve he just sort of backed away from them. Steve turned back to find his wife in a more tipsy state then he thought she would be. But she was grinning the second she saw him, throwing her arms around his neck and trying to kiss him.

"You stay here, we'll be right back."

Rowan's grin became more and more suggestive as he pulled her away. The plan was to go back to their little family, he just needed her to sober up. And he kinda also just needed her.

It didn't take long, Steve basically made a bee-line for the Bat Cave, only because he knew it was the only place where they could get privacy.

He dragged her in, hoping to god that no one was in there and got lucky. No one was.

"This is a high traffic area, Mr. McGarrett, you better be quick."

Oh how his wife knew him well.

Steve kissed her deeply and pressed her up to the closest wall in the darkest corner of the Bat Cave. Her legs were around his waist right away, his hand resting at her waist, while her hands gripped his shoulders.

Luckily she was in a dress, which meant it was easy for him to push up that skirt, move aside that skimpy pair of panties she was wearing to get to her hot and molten center. While he had been busy with that, her hands had been dealing with the belt and his zipper to free him from his pants.

Less than twenty seconds later, he was sunk deeply inside of her. There was only a brief spell where he could relish this moment, because, due to everything going on in their lives at that moment, they hadn't really had the chance to well… consummate, in a really long time. Or… well… long for them.

But the relishing of the moment lasted just that. A moment. As soon as he was over that happy relief that welled through him as soon was inside his wife, he was thrusting fast and hard, just like she liked, and his wife was biting into his shoulder to keep her cries caged inside.

Steve, though thoroughly enjoying himself, found his mind wandering, which wasn't like him at all.

Since the pregnancy test, every time they had sex a small part of Steve wondered when he'd get her pregnant. He'd imagine what it would be like for her to be pregnant, what their child would be like.

It was always a brief whisper of a thought in the back of his mind. A little reminder that he was more than ready to be a dad, no matter how scary the thought was.

He was doing fine with Nahele, after all, an infant couldn't be that much harder right?

But that night, with his wife pinned to that Bat Cave exhibit wall, her legs around him, and him deep and snug inside her, the thought came back. But it was so much more than that.

That child came back to his mind. A little girl that looked just like Rowan calling him Daddy, a little boy with his hair and her eyes resting on Rowan's hip. A child made up of the best of both of them. He wanted it, his heart ached for it.

My god how he wanted to pull it into being, to be able to put it in her.

But they weren't ready, or at least, Rowan wasn't. So he kept his thoughts to himself and went back to making sure that his wife got all the pleasure she wanted.

They finished their quicky quickly and he slowly put her back down to the ground, kissing her. Helping her fix herself up as she helped to fix him up.

Even though they're were done his mind was still on that child he wanted.

Maybe he'd talk to her about it when they were off this trip, figure out when they could start trying. At least get a timeline going.

But for right that moment, he was going to enjoy this party with his wife.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

On their last day in Toronto, the McGarrett family, and Ro's two brothers, were in the process of checking out.

This meant that Steve was at the counter paying for everything, while the three siblings hid from the staff because they were still banned. Or they were assuming they were still banned.

"So what's the plan?" Wo Fat asked.

The plan, originally had been to go to Victoria, but Trevor had talked to their… his mom, and she had not been interested in seeing Rowan at all. Upset she had decided that it was probably best to keep the trip to Toronto, seeing as she wasn't wanted after all.

"I guess we go back home," she said and her eldest brother nodded at her.

"Good, good, which means I can go back to work. The CIA is basically chomping at the bit to get me back in Nevada…"

"That plan's going to change," Con said softly and both siblings turned to him.

"What are you talking about?" Wo Fat asked and Con just nodded to something.

When they turned they could see what it was that Con was referring to and it was Trevor. He was looking for them which was clear as day because he had perked up the second he spotted them. Then he was making a bee-line for them, while Wo Fat groaned.

Rowan jumped up, dislodging Nahele from her side. "Hey! Here to see me off?" she asked as Trevor got close.

He had gotten better at hugging her, which he did right away the second he got close.

"Sorta, I was hoping to catch you before you left, to uhm… well to ask another question."

"Oh… uh… sure?"

He glanced at Wo Fat and Con who were sitting in the lounge chair glaring at him before turning back to her. He seemingly made his mind up about something and said: "I'm just going rip it off like a band-aid. Do you wanna go come back to Vic with me?"

Ro hadn't really been expecting that, seeing as he had been clear about how her mom had felt about her and that was the only reason she'd want to go to visit, but it also made sense. And she did want to show her son where she had come from, even if it wasn't the version she grew up with.

She glanced back at her two brothers, both of which had lives outside of her and her drama, and her kid who had summer plans. And Steve, oh god, Steve, Hawaii and Five-0 needed him…

"Just say yes Ro I know you want to go."

Rowan turned around to where Steve was standing behind her. She hadn't even realized he had joined her.

"You want to go… just… we'll go. Me and Nahele, we'll come with you."

"But… but your work…"

"It's fine. I'll… uh… I'll figure out something to tell them okay. Don't you worry about that just… if you wanna go… say yes."

"Yeah, I'd love to go to Victoria," Nahele cried sitting up a little straighter.

Rowan half smiled and then turned a bright big smile to her brothers and shouted: "Train!"

Both of the men groaned while Steve was left there to wonder what that meant and what he was missing.

"We already did the train, Rowan," Wo Fat said with a sigh.

"Aw but the train's tradition," Rowan and Trevor said together and then turned to one another in surprise.

"You do the train too?" they asked once again together. And it was in unison that they both exclaimed: "Me too!"

Then they started laughing as if all of this was hilarious, when it wasn't really.

But Steve's eyes were on Wo Fat who was glaring at the two of them. It took a moment for him to figure it out but he got it rather quickly. Wo was clearly unhappy with the Peirce stereo action going on.

If Steve had to guess he'd say the man was jealous. That he was worried that Rowan would want her real brother over him now.

And oddly enough, Steve was hoping that she didn't.

Wasn't that just shocking?

Wo stood quickly, fiddling with his suit buttons. "If you're hell bent on doing this fine. Then we're all going."

"Really? But I thought… the CIA…"

"They've waited this long, they can wait a little longer."

"Yeah," Con said standing up. "And I don't have anything to do. Now I can keep an eye on you."

He said that while glaring directly at Trevor who just held his narrowed gaze with his own wide one. Oh yes, Con made Trevor nervous, which was fair, sometimes he made Steve nervous too.

Rowan took a look at all the men her life, each showing a different degree of worry, even Nahele though she wasn't certain what he was nervous about. She was nervous too. But she was the one that was going to have to sound sure about this.

"Okay… okay… well… great. Guess I'm going home!"

Yeah that didn't really sell the bravery and she could tell, but she would work on calming her boys later.

Once they were on the train that is.
