Chapter 430

Steve had gone home with Rowan. That in itself was shocking. But he had needed some time, so instead of going back to the Palace with the rest of the team to investigate this robbery, he was going to go with Rowan.

He had, however, left Grover in charge, and Wo Fat agreed to stay and help out in his absence.

So with that the team and their temporary new team members headed back to the Palace to figure out where these bank robbers were now.

They got to the Palace and Jerry was on them the second they got up to the offices.

"How's McGarrett?" he asked

"Sulking like a big baby," Wo Fat said which caused the others to turn an angry glare onto him. The man wasn't phased at all. "I mean, who hasn't killed a cop?"

At that everyone else turned to him and he seemed to realize that he had stunned everyone. "What? Just me?"

"Who is this guy?!" Tani cried. Wo Fat turned a cocked eyebrow to her, but no one moved to explain just who that man was.

"Who are you?" he shot back.

"I'm Tani and I work here."

She was clearly expecting a similar introduction in return but instead Wo Fat said: "Ah, the knock off Kono. I can see why Ro doesn't like you."

And than he just turned his back on her and walked away.

There. That was her dismissed.

Tani turned her eyes to Grover and Adam as she could tell they both knew the man and both of them just shook their heads at her. In a please don't make this a thing kind of way.

Something told her this had something to do with McGarrett's fucked up family. Her gut was telling her that this was one of Rowan's brothers. The one no one had met yet.

But clearly the case was more important, because they joined Jerry by the smart table, Wo Fat purposely sticking close to Adam who had gone to stand on the other side of the table, by Grover.

"Alright, Jerry, what do we know?"

"Well, HPD is sending over footage from the bank, but I just got the update from Duke. Looks like these guys did some hardcore advance planning. They disabled the alarm before they even set foot in the building. Eric thinks they killed it sometime late last night."

"That's impressive," Tani said.

"But not as impressive as their haul. Initial report is they made off with ten million in cash."

"Ten million in cash? That's a hell of a big reserve for one branch."

"Yeah. And the weird thing is that it was all deposited yesterday."

"So the robbers knew about it, meaning that it was an inside job, someone from the bank tipped them off."

Jerry nodded but Junior was just confused. "Hold on a second. I'm still stuck on the ten million. I mean, who deposits that kind of paper?"

"Criminals," Wo Fat said. "It's either money laundering, or it's start up cash. Someone very well might be moving resources here so they can start their business."

Adam turned to Wo Fat. "It's not yours, is it?"

"God no," Wo Fat said with a scoff. "Everything's going through the vault these days and there's no way they'd let something like this happen. The only regular banking I do is for the CIA paycheque that has to go into a real bank. But that's not nearly enough for anyone to want to steal off of me."

Tani and Junior were looking between them, both silently asking each other what the fuck was happening.

"Sounds like you two know what you're talking about!" Junior said, hoping that would lead to some kind of explanation.

"Oh yeah!" Jerry said. "Adam's dad was the like OG of OGs."

"Yakuza?" Junior asked.

Adam looked a little uncomfortable but he did say: "Yeah."

"That's bad ass man," Junior said and then turned to Wo. "Why'd you get out?"

Wo who was staring down at the computer with rapt interest looked up to Junior. He said absolutely nothing to him, he just pinned him with this dark horrible glare. After a moment of that glare on Junior, he began to fidget. He kept glancing to the others as if waiting for them to stop him.

"I… wait… do you think this is my father?" Adam asked.

"Is he not?"

"Obviously not," Wo Fat said, his voice low and gravelly. "I look nothing like him and I'm basically the same age as him."

"No you are not, I'm a lot younger then you," Adam said.

"It's less then 15 years, stop being so disrespectful."

"See, saying shit like that is why people think you're older than you are," Adam said and Wo Fat simply narrowed his eyes at him. Adam immediately said: "Sorry."

Then the two of them turned back to the smart table and the people around it. Both of them realized that more of an explanation was warranted, but Wo Fat wasn't about to tell anyone anything. Clearly.

"This is Wo Fat," Adam said, when he realized that Wo Fat wasn't going to introduce himself, though he had no idea why he was being so difficult. "And he's the real OG. My dad took orders from him."

Junior's mouth dropped. "Whoa."

Jerry was suddenly beaming. "I know right?! And he's super intimidating." He glanced up and found Wo Fat just glaring at him and he kind of shifted closer to Junior. "Like that."

"Why exactly are you here? Are you just helping Adam?" Tani asked.

"No, my sister asked me to stay on to help Steve. CIA doesn't know I'm AWOL yet though, so until they figure it out, I'm unofficially Five-0."

Junior seemed to take that in and then a light went off.

"So. Wait, sister? Like Rowan? Rowan's your sister? You're the other brother?" Junior asked and the cold appraising stare slid onto him once more. "I thought you were in Boulder City with Kono. How did you even get back here so fast?"

Rowan's powers was how he got back there but he didn't know who knew and who didn't.

"How much do you know about me and my sister?" Wo Fat asked softly, a strange sort of edge to his voice.

"He doesn't know," Grover answered.

"Ah," Wo Fat said right away. "Right then, the answer is, I have my ways and kindly mind your fucking business."

Junior took that in with a surprised blink of his eyes. "Wow… you know I kinda see it now," he said. "Everyone says Con's the nice brother… but…I mean… all I've ever seen him do is be rude and attack people… but… uh, I'm starting to see why people say that."

Wo Fat continued to hold his stare and Junior, who was normally used to adverse conditions, found himself getting uncomfortable around him.

"Yes well… what they mean by that, is that Con can be reasoned with," he said, his voice low, a dangerous sort of edge to it.

"And you can't?"

Wo Fat didn't dignify that with an answer, he merely turned back to the smart table.

"Right well that was terrifying, can we move on now?" Tani asked.

"As I was saying before we got lay weighed with that stupidity," Wo Fat said. "If someone is moving that kind of cash onto my island, and it's not just a money laundering stop, they mean to set up shop. Which I have not given permission for. Also means someone very violent and angry is going to be looking for that money…"

"Given permission for?"

"You don't work on the island without asking me first. It's my territory and I don't approve of people I can't trust working on my territory," Wo Fat said and Tani's eyes widened.

"We need to start looking into everybody inside that bank," Grover said, hoping to get off of Wo Fat and his criminal ties. "If this thing has ties into organized crime, this is way bigger than a bank robbery."

"I should call Con," Wo Fat said absently.

"Why?" Tani asked. "Why do you need an assassin?"

"Cause he's who I send when I need to teach someone respect," Wo Fat said like that made sense.

Tani clearly hadn't been expecting that. The answer seemed to shock her entirely, but she didn't say anything else.

He didn't have to clarify what that meant but before he could place a call on his phone Grover pulled it out of his hands. "Yeah, we're not calling in any hits yet."

Wo Fat stared at Grover for a moment, his cold brown eyes just boring into him and Grover carefully handed the phone back. "Look man I'm sorry, but don't call the assassin yet… please?"

Wo Fat pocketed his phone with a sigh of: "Fine."

"Uh… if we're sure he's not going to call C…." Jerry started and then stopped when Wo Fat hit him with an appraised look before saying: "Sorry, Sin Nombre. Uh… if we're looking into who might have tipped off the robbers you guys should look into Bobby Akamu. He's been a bank teller at this branch for four years."

"Why do you like him for the inside man?" Tani asked.

"Because when CSU processed the crime scene they found his prints inside the vault."

"But he works there, why is that unusual?" Adam asked.

"Well… let's go ask him," Wo Fat said already walking away.

"Yeah, we can't leave that man alone with our suspect," Grover said jogging to keep up with him.

Tani shook her head. She was used to working with Con who was a loose cannon. Man did what he wanted when he wanted, just like Rowan. Seemed like it was a trait that was common with all three siblings.

But she had a feeling she wasn't going to enjoy working with Wo Fat the way she enjoyed working with Con.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

When they went to get Bobby Akamu, they had told Wo Fat to stay in the car like he was some kind of dog. That was insulting and he refused, but they did say that they were just trying to not scare the man out right so he compromised by staying by the car.

He had pulled out a smoke, leant against the massive SUV that Grover drove and just went about smoking. He checked his phone, got an update from his sister about Steve and how he was doing. Not much better, but he might be heading to the Palace soon as his nervous energy was clouding up the house, and then texted his brother to see how he was doing.

Still with Rowan, and yes, McGarrett was pacing up a storm at the house making them all antsy. He was one more lap away from getting kicked out of the house.

There came a few shouts from the house they were outside of and Wo Fat had straightened. Phone put away immediately.

Bobby had come tearing out of the house, clearly trying to make a runner. Wo Fat stepped in his way, but didn't even try to tell him to stop, no one running from the cops ever just stopped because a cop asked them too.

So he spin kicked the man to a stop. Sent him straight to the ground with the heel of his shoe. Then stood above him to make sure he didn't get up while the others came out of the house to get him.

He had caught their guy and was expecting them to be happy that he did so, but just like his co-workers on his team with Kono, they were not.

"Jesus!" Grover had said when he got close. "Is he even alive?"

A kick like that shouldn't have killed him, and Bobby was alright, but still, no one was very appreciative of the effort he put in. In fact they seemed to be mad at him.

He still didn't know what he did wrong.

They were now in the interrogation room, and Wo Fat was meant to be there as terrifying ambiance. This he was used to. Kono liked to have him in the interrogation rooms too. He'd sit there and glare, and their suspect would cower and if he didn't answer Kono would said: "Right, Wo, your turn."

Then she'd pretend to turn off all the recording gear and go for the door. Nine times out of ten the guy cracked, usually by the time Wo Fat and taken his suit jacket off.

So he was just letting Grover talk, while he stood there, staring this bank teller down.

"Now, according to the bank manager, nobody in the entire bank went in that vault yesterday. And you being a bank teller, well, that means you're hardly ever in the vault to begin with. So we're curious to know how your prints ended up in there."

Bobby tore his eyes off of Wo Fat to Grover. "I don't know. I mean, maybe I left them the last time I was in there."

"You're not a very convincing liar," Wo Fat said and then turned to Grover. "Can I fillet him now?"

"No, you cannot fillet the suspect," Grover said right away.

"Fine, but he's not going to talk unless under the threat of heavy bodily harm."

"Not everyone is a hard ass like you," Grover growled and Wo Fat just shot him a scowl.

The door opened and both men turned to watch Steven come in. Ah, so either Con had kicked him out of the house, or he was feeling up to coming back to work.

Steve shut the door behind him and then took in the scene.

"You're letting him interrogate?" he asked Grover.

"No," Wo Fat said. "If I was interrogating him, there'd be much more blood."

"Down, boy," Grover snapped. Wo Fat hit him with another death glare and then man took a step away. Geeze, what was with the disrespect? Working for the CIA did not mean he had gone soft, and he did not appreciate being included in their camaraderie like bullying. "Sorry."

"We got the results from the lab," Steve said. "Came down to tell you. The prints are fresh. Less than 24 hours old."

"Mm, so are you back now? Does this mean I can go?" Wo Fat asked.

"Yeah."

Wo made sure to look Steve up and down carefully like he could tell from the outside of him how he was doing on the inside. "And you feel better… like for real?"

"Yes, Wo. Why do you care?"

"I don't," Wo said quickly. "You were just awfully sulky and depressed when I saw you last and that's a short turn around for someone as emotional as you."

Steve balked at that. "Emotional… I think you're getting me confused with Danny."

"No… I was thinking you," Wo Fat said and Steve shook his head.

"Well I'm better now, so…"

"You're not going to say something stupid like you're better now cause you had sex with my sister, right?" he asked cutting Steve off before he could tell him to leave again. "Cause if you do I'll stab you in the throat."

"You are awfully stabby today," Grover said attempting to interrupt the argument before it started.

Wo Fat immediately went into his pocket and came out with a butterfly knife. "Con leant me his best knife. It's apparently super sharp. I really want to try it out."

He flipped it open expertly and then tapped the point of it as if trying to gauge the sharpness before flipping it shut again and putting it in his pocket. He then turned his eyes and strangely pointy smiley to them. Yeah, cause that wasn't creepy.

"Right," Steve said. "You out." He tried to push Wo Fat towards the door while he said: "And you start talking," to Bobby.

When he thought he got Wo out of the room he turned back to Bobby. "We know you were in the vault. We know you were in there this morning. What were you doing in there? That's what we wanna know, were you planting bomb materials for your friends, what?"

"Hey look at me," Grover said leaning over him. "A cop is dead. How do you think this is going to go down? Like a traffic stop and a busted taillight?"

"I still don't think he's a cop," Wo Fat said and they both turned around to find he hadn't left but was instead sitting back. "Leave him alone with me for two minutes and he'll talk. Trust me."

"No!" Grover and Steve said together. But it was Grover who added. "Look man, we can only hold him back for so long…"

Bobby eyes flitted between the three men and quickly decided that whatever he was scared of wasn't as bad as Wo Fat.

So he started talking.

Sort of.

H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O

While Steve was downstairs with Grover and Wo Fat, the others were upstairs. They had gotten access to the security cameras, so they could see the robbery go down.

That meant they got to watch them storm into the building, how they knocked out the guard and started getting people towards the window and on the ground.

And everyone moved, except one.

Rowan had been in that bank when it had all gone down, and had not seemed the least bit scared or intimidated when they showed up. In fact she had thrown her head back in her typical frustrated fashion when they showed up. As if to say: "Fuck, not this shit again."

She did not move when asked to. She stayed where she was, until with a man with a gun came at her. Words were exchanged that they couldn't hear, and then the guy grabbed her and dragged her over to where they had the rest of the hostages.

He pointed to the ground and Rowan shook her head. She gestured to her outfit, said something to him and then just stood back, lounging on her heels, arms crossed over her chest, daring him to do something about it.

The gun was leveled with her chest and Rowan didn't even flinch. She said something, the guy stared at her down and then just left her there.

They all watched it happen, completely shocked that this worked at all. It made literally no sense that the people with the guns just… left her there. That they didn't just make her do what they wanted.

"What… what was she thinking?" Tani asked. "She can't… I mean… they had guns, why wasn't she afraid?"

"One brother's a crime boss and the other is an assassin," Adam said. "People don't fuck with Rowan Pierce."

"There was a time," Jerry added. "Where you could say her name and an app would pop up. Like she'd say: I'm Rowan Pierce and her Sanctuary app would pop up and basically say if you hurt her, you'd die, but Wo Fat took it down…"

"That message is still there," Adam said. "Whole underworld knows it too. You fuck with her you're dealing with him and he does not take threats against his sister lightly."

"It seems unlikely that the whole of the underworld is terrified of one person," Junior said.

"Well, it's him and Sin Nombre. You have Wo Fat who doesn't fuck around and responds to most threats with death or violence. And Sin Nombre with his 100 percent kill streak who usually deals out most of that death and violence."

"He took down the Oyabun in Japan once, in one night," Jerry said. "Left no survivors. Did it on spite alone."

"It was the principle," Wo Fat said startling everyone who had no idea was behind them. "I told Riku Sato that I didn't like his interest in my sister, long before that situation went down and he chose to ignore all my warnings to put that interest elsewhere or else. When he gave Waincroft the permission and the assistance to grab her and torture her… well… a precedence had to be set. Words mean nothing if your actions don't back them up. The underworld learned I wasn't just talk that night."

Tani found herself shocked by that confession. She had no idea how dark Rowan's past was. That there was a kidnapping and torture in there somewhere, with the way Rowan acted she wouldn't have guess that trauma was there.

But it didn't explain how someone with clear criminal ties to a man as twisted and murderous as Wo Fat ended up married to the staunchly good McGarrett.

"How... how is McGarrett okay with you being related to his wife?" she asked him.

"He's not and it was part of the reason why it took them so long to sort their shit out and get together," Wo Fat said. "But my family drama is not of your concern. Nor do I especially appreciate you sticking your nose into on a near constant basis."

"Okay, calm down," Adam said. "No need to get all aggressive, I'm sure Rowan will be fine if you're nice to her."

Wo Fat huffed a bit but otherwise dropped in, which meant they could go back to the tapes.

They watched as the Robber's zip tied everyone. They watched as they went to Rowan with a pair of zip ties, she said something, probably: "Don't even think about it," and they changed their minds.

Behind them Wo Fat sighed. Heavily. "I'm starting to see why she didn't tell me about this part."

"Maybe she didn't want to worry you?" Jerry offered and Wo shook his head.

"No, she knows she's on precarious footing. I'm literally pissing off a lot of the underworld with my new job. And with the app down she shouldn't be taking on criminals without back up."

Tani seemed to think it over. "So if you were still a criminal and her app was still running this would have been perfectly fine."

"I mean, I'd prefer she'd just stop being in situations like this but they seem to find her."

"So yes," Junior said and Wo Fat nodded.

They turned back to the video in time to watch the Robbers basically decide they were going to take Rowan with them, dragging her down to the vault with them and then shoving her to the side as they tried to work.

They kept one guy on her at all times, gun pointed at her and though they couldn't hear what she was saying, her mouth was moving a mile a minute. So she was definitely still sassing them.

It was there that they saw the really important part. They had all started taking off their masks, which meant that they could see some of their faces, but there was one guy, closest to the camera, that they all recognized.

"Wait a second," Tani said. "Pause that and zoom in."

Jerry did as he was asked, zooming in on the one face they could see clearly. "Is that… is that who I think it is?"

Adam squinted but eventually nodded, a breathless smile touching his lips. "It is. It's the cop. The one McGarrett shot."

"They must have changed into the uniforms in the vault," Junior said.

"See, I knew he wasn't a cop," Wo Fat said.

"I'm going to tell Steve," Tani said.

And then she ran off to do just that.
