Chapter 2: New Surroundings
Agent BM: Thx.
Crumbelina's Sweet Admirer: Good you can relate. And I'm glad to hear that.
At the hospital, Honey was given a hospital gown, bracelet, and some slippers. Her doctor then gave her the first dose of medicine for her TB.
"You'll be transferred to the new hospital in the morning." she told her.
"All right. (Coughs) I just hope my family will be okay without me." Honey hoped.
"Don't worry, Mrs. Shaw. We'll have you fixed up and back with your family soon." the doctor assured.
That comforted Honey a little bit, and she tried to get some sleep.
Back at home, Sophie was being tucked in by Zeke.
"Dad, do you think Mom will be okay?" she wanted to know.
"Don't worry, Sophie. The doctors will do all they can for you mom." Zeke comforted.
"Okay."
"Now try and get some sleep."
Zeke then got up, turned off Sophie's light, and left the room. As Sophie lied in bed, she thought about her mom. She'd only been gone for a few hours and already Sophie missed her a lot. It took a while, but eventually she fell asleep.
The next day, Zeke worked on getting the house packed up. The movers came and took away most of the big furniture like the couch, dining room table, and some chairs. As Sophie watched the stuff get taken away she wondered what things would be like in the new city.
If Honey was there she would tell her that everything would be okay, and that it'd be an adventure. As she was in her room, Zeke came in, holding his cell phone.
"Sophie, your mom's on the phone." he informed.
Sophie excitedly got off her bed, and took the phone from him.
"Hello?"
"Hi, sweetie."
"Are you feeling better?"
"A little, Sophie. (Coughs) I'm going to be transferred to the new hospital soon."
"I miss you, Mom."
"I miss you too, Sophie. But I'll be home before you know it."
"Okay."
Then she gave the phone back to her dad.
"Make sure to have your bags packed the movers will be doing your room tomorrow."
"Okay, Dad."
And with that, Zeke left the room and Sophie got started.
With Honey, some nurses rolled her bed out of her room, and were getting ready to transfer her to another hospital.
"(Coughs) You know, I've never ridden in a helicopter before." Honey told one of the nurses.
"It's the quickest way to get you to the new hospital." the nurse told her.
After being rolled down the hallway, they went into an elevator which took them up to the roof. A helicopter was there, and Honey was transported into it. After making sure she was strapped in properly and comfortable, the workers closed the door and the pilot took off.
As Honey was flown out of the city, she thought about her family. She was leaving without them, and it made her feel a little sad.
That evening, Zeke took Sophie and Zack out to dinner. They went to a Sophie's favorite burger place, and they all got burgers and fries, minus Zack who just got some mashed carrots and peas.
"Thanks for dinner, Dad." she told Zeke.
"You're welcome, Sophie." Zeke replied.
Eating junk food felt good, but Sophie still wished Honey was with them. After eating dinner, Sophie finished packing up her room. Just as she finished putting the last of her clothes in her suitcase she spotted a picture of her entire family from when they all went to the zoo last year.
It was a really fun day, and Sophie wondered if they'd ever have another day like that again.
The following day, the movers came and took out the last of the furniture out, and then Zeke packed up the car with the remainder of their stuff.
"All right, time to head to our new home." he told.
As he got Zack into his car seat, Sophie looked back at her old house. She'd miss it.
"You ready, Sophie?" Zeke asked her.
"I guess so, Dad." she answered.
"Don't worry, Sophie. This is going to be fun, and we'll be reunited with your mom soon." Zeke comforted.
Sophie smiled a little, and then got in the car. Once they were buckled in, Zeke drove off.
As they drove down the road, Sophie looked out the window. Zeke looked in the rear view mirror, and saw she looked sad.
"Why don't you give your mom a call, Sophie?" he suggested.
That made Sophie brighten up a bit. Zeke handed her his phone, and she dialed the number.
"(Coughs) Hello?" asked Honey over the phone.
"Hi, Mom."
"Sophie, how are you sweetie?"
"I'm okay, are you feeling better?"
"A little sweetie. I'm already in the new hospital."
"Already?"
"Yeah, they brought me here in a helicopter."
"Really?"
"Yeah. (Coughs), I'll tell you all about it when I see you next."
They talked a little more, and then they hung up. When Zeke took his phone back, he noticed Sophie seemed lighter. And that made him smile.
After driving for a few hours, they arrived in the new city.
"Well here we are. Our new home." Zeke declared.
Sophie took in her new surroundings. It wasn't much different from their old city, and then they got out of the inner city, and past several businesses. Then they drove past a few neighborhoods, and other buildings.
"Are we almost there, Dad?" Sophie wanted to know.
"We'll be there soon. Just a few more minutes." Zeke replied.
Sophie then glanced over at Zack.
"You ready to see our new house, Zack?" she asked her brother.
Zack just babbled. Then finally they pulled up to nice 2 story house with light blue walls, a dark gray roof, some windows, and a black door.
"Well here we are. Our new house." Zeke told.
Sophie quickly got out of the car, and looked at her new home. It wasn't too different from her old house. Zeke then got Zack out of his car seat, and urged Sophie to follow him.
Zeke unlocked the door, and they all went inside. It was pretty nice, and sort of similar to the old house.
"The moving truck will be here soon, you go pick out a room." Zeke told Sophie, as he held onto Zack.
"Okay, Dad."
And with that, Sophie went up the stairs. She walked down the hall, looking at the different rooms.
"Which room could be mine?" she thought.
If her mom was with her, she would tell her to pick a room that was in the right spot. And so that's what she did. She found a room with a nice window view.
"Dad, I found my room." she called.
Zeke came out of another room, it looked it was going to be Zack's new room.
"That's great, the moving truck is here and you'll be getting your stuff soon." he told her.
Soon movers were bringing the furniture into the house. Sophie stayed out of the way by playing out in the front yard. Though it wasn't much fun, since the only thing she had unpacked was her ball.
She bounced it around, until her dad called her back in.
"Your room's finished, Soph."
"Finally." she said, and she quickly went back inside.
Up in her new room, she saw that her bed, nightstand, desk, and chair were already in their places. The only things that were out of place were the boxes that were filled with her toys, books, movies, and clothes.
She'd start unpacking as soon as her dad opened the boxes. That night they ordered a pizza for dinner.
"So how do you like the new house so far?" Zeke asked Sophie.
"It's okay, but I still wish Mom was here."
"So do I, but we're going to go visit her tomorrow." Sophie smiled, that felt good to hear.
When it was time to go to bed, Sophie changed into her pajamas. Just then, there was a knock at her door.
"Come in."
The door opened, and Zack toddled in.
"Your brother wanted to say goodnight." Zeke informed, as he stood in the doorway.
Sophie smiled, and hugged her little brother.
"Goodnight Zack."
"Night night Fifi." Zack replied in his baby voice.
"Sleep tight, Sophie." Zeke told.
And with that, he took Zack and the two left the room. After turning off the light, Sophie climbed into bed, thinking about her mom.
"Goodnight, Mom." she whispered.
