Fairy Tail – Drabble

Under the Rain

Words: 990

The gray sky over Magnolia darkened further, heralding the inevitable. Just a couple of drops began to fall before turning into a torrent that drenched the city in a matter of minutes. Happy and Carla, who had been walking back to the guild together, were taken by surprise. With no shelter in sight, they ran for cover.

"Wow, looks like we're going to be here for quite a while!" exclaimed Happy as they both hurried toward a large tree that offered them some protection. The blue Exceed shook out his fur, trying to shake off the water, though he seemed more amused by the situation than annoyed.

Carla, always more concerned with maintaining her dignity, watched disapprovingly as Happy shook like a puppy. "Could be worse," she muttered as she watched with some frustration as raindrops continued to fall from the tree and form small puddles at his feet. He was trying to dry his white fur, but his efforts seemed futile.

"Then we just have to wait!" Happy replied.

"Hmph! What a time for it to be raining!" Carla said without seeing him.

Happy, ever nonchalant, turned to her. For a moment, he watched as the rain accentuated his companion's delicate features. Her white fur seemed brighter under the water, and though her expression was one of mild displeasure, there was something about her that made her look more... warm.

"Carla, you look good even when you're soaking wet," Happy commented with a mischievous grin.

Carla looked up at him, surprised by the compliment. A slight blush appeared on her cheeks, but she quickly shrugged it off. "Don't talk nonsense, Happy. It's just water," she replied, though she couldn't help but feel a small spark of warmth in her chest. Why did he always manage to make her feel this way with such simple comments?

The rain continued to fall, persistent and constant. Although the tree offered them some shelter, the moisture was seeping through every crack of leaves, slowly wetting them. However, the situation did not seem so bad. In fact, as time passed, each other's company made the discomfort of the rain more bearable.

"It's quite nice, waiting next to Carla." Happy thought with a slight blush. "I'd like to get closer. I'll try."

Happy shifted slightly, moving closer to Carla in search of some warmth. Carla, after a second's hesitation, allowed it, saying nothing. Soon they were both sitting, shoulder to shoulder, under the tree. She found Happy's proximity strangely comforting, even though she had always thought of herself as someone who preferred her personal space.

"You know, Happy?" said Carla after a while, her voice soft over the murmur of the rain. "Sometimes I think we don't appreciate these quiet moments enough. We're always on the move, always running toward the next mission or problem."

Happy, surprised by the seriousness in her voice, glanced sideways at her. He wasn't used to hearing her speak so frankly. "Yes, you're right. We keep going from one mission to another, or from one conflict to another... It's weird to stop and just... enjoy."

Carla nodded slightly, her thoughts wandering. For years, she had kept an emotional distance from the others, especially Happy. There was always an invisible line between them, one she took care to maintain. But at that moment, with the rain covering them like a cloak, something in her softened.

Without thinking too much, she leaned into Happy and rested her head on his shoulder. At first, she felt a little nervous. It was rare for her to show herself so vulnerable. But instantly, a sense of calm enveloped her, as if this was the place she should have always been.

"It's good to have you around," she murmured, without raising her head. His voice was so soft it was almost lost in the sound of the rain.

Happy felt his heart racing, something he hadn't expected. It was rare for him to see her like that, so calm, so close. For a moment, he didn't know what to say. But then, he simply smiled, accepting the moment for what it was. There was no need for complicated words.

"Hey! I'll always be here for you, Carla," he replied softly. "No matter what."

The steady sound of the rain and the warmth of Happy at her side were all Carla needed to relax completely. She closed her eyes, allowing herself to enjoy that brief respite, something she rarely did. For that instant, there were no missions to plan, no enemies to face. It was just the two of them, in the rain, sharing a moment of peace.

"Thank you, Happy," she whispered, barely aware that she had said it out loud.

Happy looked out into the still falling rain, his smile remaining on his face. "You don't have to thank me. This...is important to me, too."

Time passed, and as the storm lost strength and the rain began to subside, their hearts seemed to grow a little closer. Under that tree, in the middle of a storm-soaked city, Happy and Carla shared a small but meaningful moment. It wasn't a grand gesture or a dramatic confession, but for them, it was enough. Because, in that shared silence, the bond between them grew stronger, promising that, no matter what the future would bring, they would always have each other.

END

We've reached the end of this Drabbles that I had saved for some time, and I've only just had the time to polish it and publish it.

This story seems quite comforting to me for a Happy x Carla story. Especially because it seems like a good point for both Exceeds, compared to what I'm writing in my main story.
