Chapter 8: Echoes of the Past
Outside the Owl House. Luz and Christa were setting up dummies for them to practice on.
Christa: Ok I think they're all set now.
Luz: Good, I haven't gotten the chance to practice this new water glyph yet.
Luz drew the glyph on a piece of paper and slapped her hand on it. The glyph turns into a water ball.
Luz: Wow, okay. Water ball go!
Luz threw the water ball at the dummy, but it didn't do much.
Luz: That's it? That's as powerful as a water balloon.
Christa: Let me go next.
Christa got into posistion. She concentrated and fired a jet stream of water from her hand at one of the dummies knocking it over.
Luz: Awesome! How did you do it like that?
Christa: Try not to form it into a ball but maybe just let it out as if i comes from your hand.
Luz tried again. This time she had glyph on her hand. She aimed at one of the dummies and and placed her hand on it then uncovers it quickly to let out a jet stream of water at one of the dummies.
Luz: Ah yeah!
Christa: You're getting it.
Luz: But I wonder if there's a bit more I can do with it.
What if I made like a wave or something?
Christa: Let me try it first.
Christa concentrated her power on water again. She tried to throw her arm again, but only shot the jet stream. She tried use both arms but it only shot a double jet stream, which was cool, but wanted something different. She put both her arms to the right side and then moved them fast to the left as if you were in the pool splashing someone, it did let out a small wave, but it didn't make it to the dummy and died off.
Christa: Aw, almost had it.
Luz: Hey we now know we can make waves out of it. Let's try it again.
Christa: Oky.
Each of them tried to make a small wave of water to come at the dummies. While Christa got it on her third try, it took Luz a five tries, but with patience and trial and error, she managed to get the hang of using her new glyph and too was able to make a wave.
Christa: Great job.
Luz: Thanks.
The two high fived. Afterwards Luz got her notebook about Christa.
Luz: Okay, so as far as your powers go, we know you could make or manipulate water and you helped me find a new glyph. Now you're able to control plant and water better. But the other night, you were holding down the abomiton using the ground. More specifically Earth. Try it out.
Christa: Okay.
Christa shook her legs and waved her arms to manipulate the ground. Nothing happened. So then she stompped her foot down, but still nothing.
Christa: I...I can't do it.
Luz: You should. How did you do it before?
Christa: I don't know, I was so focused on saving you and Amity that night I just...lost it.
Luz: I noticed it was all in defense. You did something similar when we encountered the selkidomus. I think that might be somekind of defense mechanism to enhace your powers in intense situations. At least that's what I think.
Christa: So then... I can only use it if I'm really in danger?
Luz: For now, but you're still learning about your powers, maybe there is way to use it on your own.
Christa: That'll take a while though.
Luz: We'll figure it out. You're a fast learner after all. Why don't we stop for now?
The two of them went inside the house. Lilith was still studying the pod with piles of books and notes around her, but no results.
Lilith: I don't get it. I can't find anything about this pod.
Lilith squinted her face as Hooty brought her some tea.
Hooty: A fresh cup of tea for my favorite cup of tea. That's you, Lulu.
Lilith: ( petting Hooty) Thank you Hootsifer. How do you always know what to do?
King: Luz, Christa!
King ran up to the two.
King: I need your help. I think Francois is trying to start a rebellion.
They motioned to King's pile of plushies and in the center was his plush rabbit Francois holding a dagger.
Luz: In a minute King, I need a drink.
Christa: Don't worry King, I'll keep a close eye. I won't let anyone assasinate you.
King: That's my girl. Loyal and dedicated. I love it.
Christa motioned to Lilith drinking tea trying to calm herself.
Christa: Miss Lilith are you alright? You look frustrated.
Lilith: Just a bit stumped. I'm looking I can about the pod you came from, but this is an unknown relic. There's no reference to it in any books I have here.
Christa: Maybe you should take a break. Don't work yourself to death.
Lilith: I should. I appreciate your patience Christa. I think I need a shower, I don't think I have in...
But Lilith stumbles into King's tower of plushies making them fall.
King: An ambush! Men, defend your ruler!
King throws one of his plushies at Lilith, but Hooty comes in to take the hit.
Hooty: I'm hit!
Hooty falls to the ground, acting like he's been injured.
Lilith: Hootsifer this is make believe.
Christa: Hoot Hoot no!
Christa plays along. She goes to Hooty and holds him in her arms.
Hooty: ( cough) I'm dying. Hoot.
Christa: No Hoot Hoot, you can't die. We need you.
Hooty: You have to carry on without me, to avenge. Just...just tell my wife, I love her. Bleh.
Hooty plays dead.
Christa: Oh Hoot Hoot, I'll never forget you.
But Christa couldn't hold back a laugh as she broke character and Hooty laughed with her.
King: The King of Demons yields to no one!
Lilith: Historically, demons have never been united under a single rule until Belos. There's no such thing as a "King of Demons."
King: Excuse me? Oh you did not just say that! Clearly, you know nothing of my reign of terror. I was once the mighty King of Demons. I was beloved almost as much as I was feared. But one dark day, an evil spell was cast onto me, transforming me into this!
Christa: It's true, he told me stories.
Hooty: Oh? What happened to your Crown of Power?
King: A trifle! That was just to test Eda and Luz's dedication to me. They passed. My real crown is still out there. But when I shrank, my memories got uh...fuzzy.
Lilith: How convenient. A hole in your memory for each hole in your story.
Hooty: HA! Nice one, Lulu! Up top!
Lilith high fives Hooty's face giving him a black eye.
King: Hey I remember plenty! I remember the armies bowing before me, being served the greatest of feasts and falling from a massive height as an evil hex shrank me. One day, I'll return to my rightful place and all shall fear me! And the first thing I'm gonna do, is promote Christa to be my general in my new army for being my biggest fan.
Luz grabs him and gives him a belly rub, Christa joins in petting him, making King ticklish.
Luz: Aw, you're gonna be such a good tyrant.
Christa: And I'll make you proud as your general.
Lilith: Your dedication to this farce would be charming if it wasn't so sad.
King: Don't blame me for your ignorance. I'm not a liar and I can prove it.
King leaves the room.
Lilith: ( gasps) He just called me ignorant. Me!
Luz: Stop it, you guys. This story is really important to him, so the least we can do is play along.
Lilith: You mean indulge in his silly fantasy?
Hooty: Yeah! I'm a house of principles. You're asking me to lie? Hootrageous!
Luz: Could you please go with it?
Christa: Yeah I mean he...wait go with it? Luz are you saying you don't believe what he says?
Luz: Well I mean...I'm just not 100% certain. But I go with it because, it means a lot to him.
Christa: But he's told me stories of his battles and past life. Hasn't he told you any of them?
Lilith: Christa, not all stories are based on true events.
But then King returns holding both Eda's and Lilith's staff.
King: Alright you guys want proof. I'll prove it to ya. We're going to my castle.
Luz: Wha...
Christa: You have a castle!?
King: Yup, it's where I came from before coming here. I think it's about time to check the old place out.
Christa: That is so cool! Luz that means he can prove that he is a king.
King: ( chuckles) Well I am.
Luz: Uh...
Hooty: What's wrong, Luz? I thought you said we should just "go with"-
Luz: Go with him! I said we should go with him, right? How could I forget what I just said?
Lilith: My historical expertise is being questioned and I will not allow it. Hooty, would you like to accompany us?
Hooty: ( gasps) O-Oh, I'll get ready!
Hooty stretches back to the door. We watch the reactions of Luz, Christa, King and Lilith of them watching Hooty getting out of the door, with sounds of crashes and squishing organs splattering. They all looked horrified until Hooty was finally in a small birdhouse shaped backpack.
Hooty: Porta-Hooty! Reporting for Hooty!
Everyone else was still freaked out of what they saw, King's eyes were tearing up slowly shaking his head. Lilith had her hand at her chest taken aback, Christa covered both her eyes wishing she could unsee that and Luz looked like she was about to throw up.
Minutes later.
Eda emerges out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe. She walks to the main room and find everyone gone.
Eda: Hmm? Where'd everyone go? Man, they made a mess in here. Oh well. It's been a while since I had room to put my feet up.
Eda jumps onto the couch and detaches her feet. She rests there for a moment until she finds a note written by King. It said:
Off to my real castle! Don't wait up!
Love,
You're favorite demon overlord.
Eda: Oh no. Not again.
Meanwhile Luz was riding on Eda's staff with King in front and Christa behind her as Lilith followed from behind with Hooty on her back.
Hooty: Are we still flying? It's been hours!
Lilith: Should we call it a day? Or perhaps a night? (laughing) Hooty, your sense of humor is infectious.
King: There it is!
They were soon approaching an island, clearing up from the fog.
Lilith: This island shouldn't be here. It's not on any of the maps.
King: It's always been there when I looked for it.
They finally landed at the shore.
Luz: This is where you lived King?
King: After I shrunk, I woke up here, in Eda's arms. Then she carried me away, like a wittle baby.
Luz and Christa: Awww.
Luz grumpily gestures at Lilith and Hooty to follow.
Lilith: ( sighs) Fine, Aw.
Hooty: ( gasps) Look!
The fog clears up more to reveal a tower that was in the center of the island.
Christa: Is that it over there?
King: Yup, home sweet home.
The five of them were making their way through the jungle to King's tower.
Lilith: The tower is certainly intriguing, but couldn't we have landed a little closer?
King: We can't, the treetops are so thick this is the only way in. Plus, now I can dramatically do...
King grabs a bush obscuring the path and pulls aside, revealing a key hole shaped entrance to the tower.
King...this!
Luz: Ooh, a door fit for a tyrant.
King: ( chuckles) That's me!
They walk toward the entrance which is blocked by rocks which King climbs up on.
KIng: You guys just wait here. I'll find a you another way in.
King crawls into a crevice in the rock pile. Lilith walks over to a wall with a strange symbol on it.
Lilith: Huh. What a strange material. And this symbol. I've never seen anything quite like this. Luz, Christa look! This predates any language I know. King's story may be a fake, but these ruins are a history mystery. ( giggles)
Suddenly the rocks collapse, clearing the way.
King: Eh? What's a mystery?
Luz: (laughing) The only mystery is how Lilith can be so smart and so wrong at the same time. Academics, am I right?
King: You so are. Come on in.
Lilith give Luz a dirty look, and she sheepishly smiles back. The three climb over the rocks and into the tower. They use light glyphs to make their own lights and examine the room, which is littered with rocks stacked to make the same figure of something with two or three round rocks as a body and a crescent-shaped head placed horizontally.
King: Ah, the chamber where I would devour the hearts of my foes. The taste was cold and bitter, but I bet yours would be sweet, Luz.
Luz: With all the sugar I eat, it better be.
They all go forward. Luz notices a shadow resembling the rock figures passing behind her. She gasps, stops, and turns her light around. There's nobody there.
Luz: ( whispers) Did you see that?
Christa: ( whispers) See what?
Luz: ( whispers) I could have sworn I saw something move.
Christa looked around the room but saw nothing.
Christa: I don't see anything.
Luz: I must be seeing things.
King: Can't believe your eyes huh? My castle does have that effect.
Luz: Yeah. ( sheepish laugh) So much wonder.
Christa: It's so cool King.
King: Let me show you more.
Lilith was walking through the hallway. Hooty gasps and looks at the wall.
Hooty: Are you seeing what I'm seeing?
Lilith walks over to the wall, on which is a carving of a giant demon resembling King.
Lilith: ( gasps) These carvings, they're ancient.
Hooty: Wh-what does that mean?
Lilith: Well, if I've never heard about this ruin, let alone this entire island, who knows what other parts of history we scholars have missed.
Hooty: Are you saying...
Lilith: That he may actually have been...
Lilith and Hooty: The King of Demons?!
Meanwhile, King is standing at the top of a pile of rocks, showing off to Luz.
King: Ah, my kingdom. I, uh... (wipes a tear from his eye) I got some bone dust in my eye.
Luz: (looking up) What was up there?
King also looks up. There's a hole in the ceiling with rocks plugging it.
King: I-I can't quite recall. I just remember a muffled roar, probably some minion praising my name.
Christa looked back at the carving on the wall of King fighting against another demon. This demon he was fighting appeared to be tall, maybe giant. He had black armor with gold on his chest and shoulders. His head was a cross between a pteranadon and dragon skeletal head with small horns, long neck, huge wing span, tentacles coming from the back and spear like tail. But there was one thing that caught her attention. It had a third eye, but it was on the chest. It was red and had an evil look to just stared at it for a moment.
Luz: Hey you okay?
Christa: Huh, yeah fine. Just admiring he art.
Luz: Well, uh... wanna head back? This is all so cool, but Eda's probably on her third cup of apple blood by now, and the last time, it was real hard getting her off the roof.
Hooty stretches himself to King, accidentally knocking down Luz.
Hooty: Your Majesty! It's me, faithful ol' Hooty. You know I was messin' around with you the whole time, right?
Luz: Your Majesty?
Lilith: It's clear these ruins are of immense historical value. Perhaps you could tell me more about them.
Christa helps Luz up.
King: Haha! I suppose I could uh regale you with some tales. Am I using the word right? Regale?
But then Luz and Christa heard a hissing noise in a dark corridor. The two approach it and shine their light glyphs down and gasp.
Luz: Uh, guys, are you hearing this?
But the others paid no attention and only focused on King.
King: I'll show you where my throne used to be. It was made from the teeth of my enemies and haha, boy, was it awkward to sit in.
King lead them to his throne room as Luz and Christa stayed behind.
Christa: Should we tell them?
Luz: Let's just check it out real quick. Stay with me.
Christa nods and follows Luz as they go down the hallway. They see that the walls are lined with recesses containing stone figures, resembling the little ones in the foyer, partially covered in fleshy goop.
Christa: What are these things?
Luz: Mummified warriors?
They pass by one of them with their hand sticking out.
Luz: Hey Christa I dare you to give this guy a high five.
Christa: Ew no, I'm not high fiving that.
Luz: Come on, I'll give you five snails if you do it.
Christa: No way, do you even have five snails.
Luz: No, but I will eventually. Look at him. He probably died because everyone left him hanging.
Christa: No, what it comes alive and eats me?
Luz: There's no way it'll come alive. It's dead.
Christa: Not happening.
Christa marches away as Luz watched her leave, but immediatly comes back to high five it.
Christa: You're right I can't let anyone hanging. Up top!
Christa high fives it, only to fall aprt on her.
Christa: AAAAAH! It's eating me! Luz help!
Luz: Easy, easy, don't panic. It just fell on you.
Luz brushes the body parts off of Christa and helps her up.
Christa: ( shivers) Ugh, I feel so violated.
Luz: You're okay don't worry.
Christa: Hey look up there.
Luz shined up at the ceiling and they see countless other figures in recesses towards the ceiling. She shines her light and see's one of them is empty.
Luz: Wait one of them is missing.
Then they heard a hissing noise.
Luz: Christa was that you?
Christa: No.
They heard it again and turned around see's a figure running away.
Christa: It's heading towards the others.
Luz: Come on!
The two gave chase after it.
We cut back to King still showing Lilith and Hooty around.
King: And that's how I would annihilate my enemies. Who needs due process, am I right?
Lilith: What does this image represent my lord?
Lilith motioned to the wall carving of King fighting the other demon Christa was looking at.
King: Uh, it's hard to remember. But that handsome devil looks familiar huh?
Luz and Christa approaches.
Luz: Tour's over! We gotta go! Now!
Lilith: But we can't leave now. There's so much to learn.
Luz: This environment is not conducive to learning. It's conducive to death!
Christa: There's something in here guys! It's gonna eat us!
King: Ah, you two must have seen the horrifying monstrosity room. Don't worry, they can't hurt you.
But then the hissing is heard again. Everyone looks up and see's what appears to a fleshy rock monster, alive. It had cresent shaped head with glowing blue eyes. It crawled along the ceiling.
Luz: Uh King, what do you call that thing?
King: Two words...
The rock monster rotated it head staring down and hissing at them.
King: ... Am-scray!
Luz grabs King and they all run to the entrance, but the monster jumps in front of them and blocks the changes its right arm into a claw and tried to swipe them. Christa stepped forth.
Christa: Stay back!
Christa tried fire magic at first and shot a fire blast at the creature, but had no effect on it, most likely being part stone. So she used her water magic and unleashed a wave of water at it, sending it at a wall.
Luz: Nice one.
Christa replied with a nod, before the monster got back up, Lilith got some ice glyphs out and pinned it to the wall with the ice spikes.
Luz: Dang girl, you've been practicing.
Lilith: You may admire my progress when we get out of here alive!
They tried running out again, but the monster slides through the ice spikes and gives chase, running along the walls and ceiling before pouncing in front of them. It stands tall, turns it's head and changes it's left arm into an axe. Christa got in front of it and formed some vines and tried to constrict it, but it easily broke free from it. So she placed her hand on the floor, forming ice and freezing the monster. Everyone looked relieved for a moment, but the frozen monster began to shake and broke free. The monster was about to strike down. But then something hit it at the back of it's head, letting out an explosion and putting it to the ground. It was caused by Eda who was wearing a belt of explosive potions.
Luz: Eda.
Eda: Get out of here. I'll hold it back and meet you outside.
Eda tossed another potion at it to get it's attention.
Luz: Eda! We can fight it together.
Christa: Yeah let us help.
Eda: You can't beat this thing. Go!
They all looked at each other but did what she said and made haste to the exit.
Eda: It's been a while. Miss me?
The monster hisses at Eda and proceeds to attack her. The others finally make it outside and stopped near the entrance.
Hooty: Less stopping, more running!
Lilith: Edalyn said to wait here!
Luz: We can't let her fight it alone!
Christa: We have to go back and help her!
But then everyone heard explosions within the tower. They all looked a the door with frightful anticipation. But they see Eda walking out, but looked hurt as she was clutching her wound on her arm.
Lilith: Edalyn!
Lilith ran to Eda.
Lilith: Your hurt. What of that horrible creature?
Then they saw the monster climb up the rocks about to strike them, but it couldn't. There was somekind of force field blocking it. Keeping it inside.
Eda: It can't get past the entrance. We're safe now. What are you all doing here in the first place?
King: I was just showing them my castle to prove your sister and Hooty wrong, and then next thing that...that whatever that thing is attacked us.
Luz: It must be guarding this place against intruders.
King: But it's my castle. How could we be intruders?
Luz: Uh...um...
King looks at Luz.
King: Y-You don't believe this is my castle do you?
Luz looks the other way as sweat pours down her face.
King: Luz you think I would lie to you?
Luz: King I...
Eda: You aren't lying. You just don't know the truth.
Eda falls to her knees and Lilith starts bandaging her arm.
King: What do you mean? What truth?
Eda: ( sighs) King, it's time for me to tell you how we really met.
8 years ago.
A younger Eda was on the run from the Emperor's Coven, flying over the sea and finding the island they were on.
Eda: (voiceover) Eight years ago I was looking for a place to hide from the Emperor's Coven. I never knew this place existed and it just... appeared out of the mist. So, I landed.
Eda saw the tower in the distance
Eda: (voiceover) Now, I was one hot tamale, but the boiling rains were even hotter. I needed shelter.
Young Eda ran through the jungle and made inside the tower.
Eda: ( voiceover) But when I found it... I wasn't alone.
She notices that shadowy figure running past her. She readies her staff.
Young Eda: Who's there? Reveal yourself!
She turns around and gasps as she see what was trailing her. From behind a small rock formation, was King as baby. Baby King tilts his head, and Eda lowers her staff. King then picks up a crescent-shaped rock and puts it on top of an incomplete figure.
Young Eda: Did you make all these? What are you?
She starts petting King, who happily wags his tail.
Eda: ( voiceover) I assumed you were just some stray dog. But then...
The two look up and see the monster towering over them, brandishing its axe-hand. Young Eda grabs King and bolts, barely avoiding the axe swing.
Eda: ( voiceover)...that thing was gonna kill us both, so I picked you up and bounced.
Young Eda and King flew out of the ruins. Approaching its magical boundary, the monster fashions its limbs into a bow-and-arrow and fires at them. The stone arrow hits King, breaking off his left horn and rendering him unconscious. Young Eda, having fallen off her staff, continues her escape on foot, grabbing King and his broken horn. She soon got onto her staff and flew away from the island.
Eda: (voiceover) Against my better judgment, I took you home with me.
We cut a little later at the Owl House as Young Eda looks at Baby King stacking piles of household objects, similar to the rocks in his castle.
Eda: ( voiceover) I'd got you the collar cuase...well that's what you do when you get a new pet but then...
Young Eda: ( snorts) Ah, look at you. A king amongst his subjects.
Baby King: King...King!
Young Eda looked surprised.
Young Eda: It spoke. ( to King) Yeah that's right. A king. You know what else kings do? They command armies and eat delicious feasts.
Eda: ( voiceover) And that's how you got the idea you were some despotic overlord.
End of flashback.
Eda: Oh but you were finally happy. So I kept playing along with it.
King looked at her with disbelief. This couldn't have been the truth.
King: Y-You're lying!
Eda: I'm not.
Eda took something out of her hair, it was the broken piece of King's horn. King was shocked but also curious about it. He slowly takes it from Eda's hand. But when he held it, most of his memories were coming back to him now. Everything King thought he did was not what he expected. The armies he commanded were his army of rock figures and the feasts were just insects he ate when he was little. Everything he thought was a lie. No, this couldn't be it. This was had to be a joke. A cruel one. This couldn't be the truth of his life. King looked down at the horn piece and throws it down. He was starting to have an emotional breakdown
King: AAAH! No! Keep that thing away from me! It's messing with my head!
Luz: King, it's going to be okay.
King: You're all just making fun of me like usual right? Please tell me you are! No! No,no,no,no,no!
King was on the verge of tears and panicing, running away from the group.
Luz: King!
Christa: King come back! King!
But King was already gone. Luz frowned and sat down.
Luz: I lied to him. Even though I knew he trusted me. Now he's all alone.
Christa: Oh poor guy. This must be so hard to take in.
Eda: Let's split up. The island is small and he's even smaller. He couldn't have gotten far.
Eda kneeled down to Luz.
Eda: Don't worry, we'll find him.
Eda, Lilith and Hooty split up to find King. Luz and Christa went their own way.
Luz: King! King?!
Christa: King! King, where are you!?
They two of them soon found King at the beach, sitting on a log. Luz and Christa went to him as Luz sat on the right while Christa on the left.
Luz: King are you okay?
King: Eda was right, wasn't she? I was never king of anything. I'm nobody.
Christa: King that's not true?
Luz: Yeah you are somebody. And I love that somebody very much. I'm sorry that I lied about what you believed.
King: Everyone lied. And I was too caught up in the fantasy to realize it. Well except you Christa. I really...( sniffs) I also feel like I really disappointed you.
Christa: No you didn't.
King: ( sobs) I just...I just don't know what to do guys. I don't know what's real or what's fake anymore.
King covered his eyes sobbing. Luz held him close comforting him as Christa joined in rubbing his back. As they did, Luz looked back at the tower.
Luz: Something is still not adding up. One of your memories involved falling right?
King ( rubbing his eyes) Probably just another stupid thing I made up.
Luz: No what if that's a real memory?
Christa: What are you getting at Luz?
Luz: King said he remembered a roar from up that shaft. Maybe that's where he fell from. King, Eda found you in those ruins, there's gotta be a clue of where you came from.
King: I don't know Luz. What if the story gets worse?
Luz: You might have been alone before but you have us now.
Christa: That's right. We're here for you King, nothing changes that.
Luz: So what do you say?
King looked at Luz and took a deep breathe.
King: Okay.
Little later.
Luz and Christa were leading King back to Eda, Lilith and Hooty.
Eda: King, you're alright!
Eda looked relieved seeing King, but did notice and upset look on his face and she frowns.
Eda: You're mad at me, I get it. I would be too.
Eda kneeled down to King.
Eda: I'm so sorry King.
King: ( poking her face) Boop.
Eda looked at King confused.
King: No more secrets okay? You have to promise me.
Eda: Only truths. I promise.
Luz: Great now before we leave, we have one more thing to check out.
Inside the tower.
The rock monster was organizing the small rock piles, until it heard something come towards the entrance. A potion hit it's face and coming first was Lilith on her staff with Hooty over her shoulder and Christa next to them.
Hooty: Special delivery...PAIN!
Christa: Fire away Hoot Hoot!
Hooty coughed out another potion at the monster and kept coughing at him like a machine gun. But he did needed moments to breathe also, that's where Christa came in and would fight the monster with her own magic.
Next coming inside was Eda, with Luz, Christa and King on her staff. They were invisible using the invisbility glyph and held their breathe long enough to get by.
Eda: You sure they'll be okay.
Luz: Christa knows what she's doing and she has Hooty.
Eda flew up to the ceiling where the rocks were blocking the path up. She placed on of her potion bombs to it and flew back down with the othes.
Eda: Ready?
Luz: I always wanted to try this.
Luz took out a fire glyph and threw a fire ball at the potion. The ceiling explodes, clearing the path. Lilith and Hooty stopped their distraction, Christa quickly got onto her staff and flew up with the others up to the top. But the rock monster gave chase and jumped side to side to catch up to them. But they were getting close and could see the end.
Luz: There's...
Christa: There's...
Eda: Nothing here!
It only lead them to an empty room. They got off and looked around briefly, the only other thing there was a door.
Luz: What's behind this door?
Luz tried pushing it open but nothing. Christa tried too, but couldn't.
Christa: It's locked.
Eda: You need a key.
Lilith: I don't see any keyhole on it.
Hooty: Let the Hootsmeister handle this guys.
Hooty stretched the door with a serious look and took a deep breath about to do something.
Hooty: OPEN SEASAME!
But of course nothing.
Hooty: Well I tried. Hoot! Hoot!
King heard the monster coming closer.
King: Uh guys, it's coming!
The monster finally made it to the top and approached them. Everyone backed up, King touched the door as he was backing away and to everyone's surprise, it opened. They quickly got in and closed the door before the monster could attack.
Eda: Well I think we're safe in here, for now. But how did we get the door open?
Then they finally noticed the room.
Lilith: This room is old... very old.
The room appeared to be some kind of incubation chamber. The walls had carvings of the rock monster around and in the center, where the moon or sunlight would shine was a gold platform and egg shells littered on it.
Luz: I knew there was something up here. I'm like the mystery whisperer. The butler did it, magnifying glass, secret door.
Lilith examined the wall carvings of the monster.
Lilith: It looks like that creature was made to guard whatever was here.
Christa: Does any of this look familiar to you King?
King: I'm not sure, but I think I know how to job my memory. Eda I'm ready.
Eda: Are you sure?
King: I am.
Eda handed him his broken horn. King placed it back on his head where it was. Then everthing was starting to become more clear now as he began to remember. He remembered as far back as still being in an egg.
King: ( voiceover) I remember a deep roar and then something happened.
Baby King heard the roar as he described, but then heard a crash and rumble, like some kind of fight going on.
King: ( voice over) But I was too small to do anything so I went back to sleep. And the next time I woke up...
Baby King finally hatched from his egg. He crawled around the room curious as an infant would be. He soon made it to the door and touched it. The door opened and standing in front was the rock monster they were fleeing from. But it looked down at him for a moment but it picked him up gently. Baby King reached his arms for the creature as it took him with it, jumping down the hole they went up. That was the memory of falling King recalled having.
The memory ends and King takes the horn off him.
Luz: King?
Christa: What is it?
King: That roar, it meant " son." I don't know how I know that, but I do. Somebody called me their son. Guys, I think it was my dad.
Christa: You're dad?
Luz: Then that must have been him on those wall carvings.
Eda: So then this place isn't a castle. It's a nursury.
Lilith: A nursury for what kind of demons though?
But the the door starting to break, it finally broke down and the rock monster entered with it's axe hand about to attack, but King stepped up to it.
King: Stop!
The rock monster did as he said. It turned it's hand back to normal and kneeled down to him.
Eda: Wait so, that thing was defending King from us this whole time? Huh, well alright.
They heard a camera shutter and turn to see Lilith taking pictures of the wall carvings.
Lilith: Oh I'm sorry. Were we discussing important revelations? I'll uh...ahem do this later.
Luz: Maybe you weren't the King of demons, but...
King: I was important to someone. If...If he's out there, I want to find him. I know it's possible.
Christa looked at King. He was now going through what she was now. They don't know who or where there parents are and now want to search for them.
Christa: You and me both King.
King: So, will you help me?
Luz: I would do anything for you buddy.
King: Then can we keep him?
King pointed to the rock monster.
Luz, Eda and Lilith: No.
Christa and Hooty: Yes!
Later that night.
Everyone was back at the Owl House. Luz, King and Christa were in their room with the rock monster, who King now named John Luke sat in the corner, now deactivated. Luz got some glue and was glueing King's horn back to his head, but noticed he was doing something with his collar.
Luz: What are you doing there King?
She and Christa saw King carving the symbol they saw outside the tower.
King: That symbol was all over the tower, what if it's my name.
Luz finished applying the glue to King's horn and attached it back to his head.
King: Ew, gooey. It's too bad John Luke stopped moving outside the ruins. I liked having a big scary minion.
Luz: Uh yeah. Too bad.
King: Hey guys. Is it still okay to still call me King?
Christa: It's your name. I can't think of anything else good to call you, other than cute names. But I don't think you want them to be permanent.
King: It's just feels kinda weird when I'm not the king of anything and Christa, I'm sorry I disappointed you.
Christa: Disappointed me for what?
King: You actually thought I was so cool and took me seriously. Are you upset that I'm no king?
Christa: Oh King.
Christa picked up King and hugged him close to her.
Christa: Of course I'm not disapointed. I like you the way you are. You're still fun to hang around with, your sweet and funny. Just because we now know the truth doesn't change our friendship.
King: You really are loyal and dedicated minion, I mean friend. And... I guess this means you and I are in the same situation now.
Christa: Let's make this our goal King. Let's find our parents and know who we are and where we come from. Let's do it together okay?
King: Okay, you and me together.
King gave Christa a tight hug around waist. Christa hugged him back, stroking his head.
Christa: Good, and to for the record. You are king. You're the King of our Hearts.
Christa kissed King on his forehead, making him giggle. She placed King onto his sleeping bag as Luz tucked him in.
Luz: Goodnight King.
Luz also gave him a kiss on his head.
King: And Francois.
Luz gave his Francois a kiss also as did Christa.
King: Now John Luke.
Luz turned to John Luke and looked creeped out.
Luz: Uh bummer I'm all out of kisses.
Christa: I still got plenty more.
Christa got up and gave John Luke a kiss, much to Luz's surprise. The two got up and exited the room.
Luz and Christa: Goodnight King!
They closed the door as King slept.
Luz: I wish I was half as brave or optimistic as you were right there.
Christa: Come on, he was only looking after King. You can't argue with that.
Luz: Also I loved what you said to King. I think you really helped him there.
Christa: I can relate to him. I hope he finds out more of himself like I am.
Luz: ( nods) Yeah me too and Christa, just because this just came up. It doesn't mean we lost focus on you.
Christa: I know Luz, as I said to King gonna search together.
Luz smiled and nodded to her as the two made their way downstairs as Eda and Lilith looked at the pictures of the symbols and wall carvings from the tower.
Eda: I've never seen markings like this. Is it some kind of ancient language?
Lilith: And those old carvings. Who were they depicting?
Eda: Any ideas mystery whisperer?
Luz: I wish I knew. I'm kinda stumped here.
Lilith: This is incredible, but now we have two mysteries to figure out, King's origin and Christa's pod.
Eda: This is becoming a bit much for us.
But then an idea hit Eda.
Eda: Unless.
Luz: Unless what?
Eda: I think I know a guy who might help us out with both of these.
Luz: Who?
Eda: An old friend of mine.

Okay I can definitly say this one probably was not my best since this retelling was more word to word than the last, but I had to do this in order to bring in King's story arc. Because we're on hiatus for a while and the second half won't be back until most likely early next year, I will be handling King's origin, his dad and overall race on my own.
