Chapter 13: Hunting Palisman
At Emperor Belos Castle.
In the room where the portal was being rebuilt, all the leaders of the covens were called by Emperor Belos. They entered the room, standing around them were coven scouts, dorodoros and newly purchased abomintons. Standing with Emperor Belos was Kikimora, the Golden Guard,the Legion of Five and someone else. He was a middle aged man. About Archimedes's height and very thin. He wore a black suit with a white cloack. He had an oval shaped head with brown hair and cheekbones. But his left face looked like it suffered a burn and even the left eye has an eye patch. The coven leaders gathered together in a circle standing around a fireplace.
Kikimora: The Day of Unity approaches, where we celebrate the purification of magic under the coven system. Just as the Titan intended. As heads of the ten covens we celebrate your efforts, to complete this plan. For this, you have earned a glimpse of the reward that awaits.
Emperor Belos: Step forward.
The coven leaders each took their own medallion and placed it on a platform around the fire place. The fire began to grow as it projected to them of what the Day of Unity would be like. Their world would change as the worlds of the human and demon realm would merge together, into a new world.
Emperor Belos: The larger your covens grow, the more power we have to unite our realms. Where the worthy shall inherit a utopia free of wild magic.
The leader of the Abomination Coven, Darius stepped forth.
Darius: We will do what we can to aid you and the Titan, my Emperor.
Emperor Belos: Excellent.
But the Emperor Belos grunted as he felt pain from within himself. The Golden Guard helped him up and lead him back to his throne room and Kikimora tried to follow.
Golden Guard: No, stay here. Dr. Cushing, I need you to come though.
The middle aged man, Dr. Cushing spoke with a british accent.
Dr. Cushing: Yes Golden Guard.
Emperor Belos, Dr. Cushing and the Golden Guard left the room as Kikimora just watched, glaring at the Golden Guard. Shadam also watched as they left, squinting his eyes as they left.
The three made it to the throne room. The Golden Guard quickly shut the door as Belos stood, grunting again. But then his mask fell off an he began to transform. We could only see the shadow of it, it looked like a large horned beast. The Golden Guard and Dr. Cushing tried looking away as Monster Belos roared and his sludge arms hit the walls repeatedly. Finally he calmed down and turned back to normal. His mask was cracked, but black goo leaked from it. The Golden Guard handed him a palisman. Belos snatches it from his hands and broke it, absorbing it's essance to stabalize himeself.
Emperor Belos: More.
Golden Guard: That, was the last from out reserves. The palistrom wood has been over harvested.
Dr. Cushing: My lord, because palistrom wood is starting become rare, Selene and I are working on an elixer that should keep your curse at bay.
Emperor Belos: And what is the status on that.
Dr. Cushing: Still not done yet. Combining that along with repairing the portal door its becoming too much for my team to handle both tasks.
Emperor Belos: Tell them to work harder! Double the shifts and no breaks.
Dr. Cushing: Yes my lord.
Emperor Belos turned away in frustration.
Golden Guard: Uncle let me help. We can make more palisman. Actually I read about this technique to harness wild magic to...
But the Golden Guard stopped talking when he saw how his uncle looked at him. Dr. Cushing also looked a bit scareed when he mentioned it. Belos was already in a bad mood, he doesn't want things to get worse.
Golden Guard: Uh, I'm sorry.
Emperor Belos approached him, placing his hand on his shoulder.
Emperor Belos: Do you remeber what happened to your parents?
The Golden Guard looked down.
Golden Guard: They were killed because of wild witches who misused their magic.
Emperor Belos: And you rember what I told you of what happened to me? Why I'm like this?
Golden Guard: A witch cursed you to be like that.
Emperor Belos: Dear nephew. Our family is gone because of wild magic. Those wretched creatures out there caused us nothing but pain and misery, but once the Day of Unity arrives, justice will be served and will finally live in a perfect world. Understand that what I'm doing is for your protection. We're all that's left and we must stick together.
Golden Guard: I understand Uncle.
Emperor Belos: Excellent. Now go, find me more palisman. I can depend on you. Right?
Golden Guard: Yes Uncle. I won't let you down.
But outside the throne room, Shadam listened to the whole thing as he began to have an idea, but needed some help. Someone who hated the Golden Guard just as much as he did.
Meanwhile
Kikimora was walking through the halls upset.
Kikimora: The Golden Guard this. The Golden Guard that. It's always the Golden Guard who gets the Emperor's favor. I'm his assistant. I'm with him just as much. I served him longer than he did yet he gets special treatment. Urgh I wish...I wish that brat was never born.
Shadam: You and me both.
Kikimora turned and saw Shadam behind her.
Kikimora: Shadam, what do you want?
Shadam: To fulfill your wish of course.
Kikimora: You heard what I said. If you're going to tell on me I won't let you...
Shadam: I'm serious. I hate him too Kikimora, but perhaps we can do something about that.
Kikimora: I'm listening.
Shadam: You have that pet of yours don't you?
Kikimora: Yes, but what do you have in mind?
Shadam: I have a plan to rid of that Golden Guard and please our Emperor.
Kikimora: Is that right, but if I helped you kill him you would want something out of it wouldn't you? Is it the position to be the new leader? How do you know I don't want that?
Shadam: We shall cross that bridge when we come to it. Let the Emperor decide on that part. This is just getting his palisman and killing the brat.
Kikimora: It does sound tempting.
Shadam reached his hand to her.
Shadam: Do we have a deal?
Kikimora looked at his hand for a monent and then back to him.
The next day.
At Hexside Luz was with Willow, Gus and a large group of other students, except for Amity who was absent. Though Luz could imagine why. They were outside on the sport field and in front of them was small hut and around it a fence to keep small animals in. Today was going to be special. Today students were going to get their witches staffs with their own palisman. This was Luz's biggest dream on being a witch, having her own staff. Sure used Owlbert now and then, but he was mainly Eda's palisman and really wanted her own. Finally Principle Bump appeared with Eda and Mathilda accompanying him.
Principle Bump: Good tidings on this momentous 're all about to recieve your witches' staffs and, more importantly, meet your palisman. This is a crucial step in your magical development. palismen are lifelong partners. They can be both your good friends and a powerful tool. In my case...
Principle Bump snaps his fingers and suddenly the little demon on his head got off Principle Bump's head, reavealing to be his palisman and showing Bump's long hair.
Luz: Holy Titan.
Principle Bump: Frewin here helps me see...
Luz: Principle Bump you have hair!
Principle Bump: Uh er...yes I have hair.
Luz: I kinda had the impression you were bald.
Principle Bump: Why would I be bald?
Gus: Well people who cover their heads usually try to hide their lack of hair.
Eda: Oh believe me I thought the same thing for years.
Mathilda: I remember we snuck in the vents of the school just to see if he'd take his palisman off just to see if he was bald.
Principle Bump: Alright, alright enough about me whether I'm bald or not. Which I'm not clearly.
Eda: Now, traditionally, young witches carve their staffs from the branch of an old Palistrom tree.
Mathilda: But sadly, Palistrom trees are becoming more rare. And those that remain are guarded covetously.
Eda: That's why Matti and I teamed up with Bumpipoo...
Principle Bump: Please don't call me that again.
Eda: To bring you...
The Bat Queen enters flying down and landing on the hut.
Bat Queen: Palisman adoption day.
The hut opens and out came a group of cute looking palisman.
Luz: They're so cute.
Mathilda: Thanks for doing this favor Bat Queen.
Eda: Really appreciate it, here's your whistle back.
Bat Queen: Save it for another time. This was my pleasure.
One of the palisman, which looked like a red cardinal bird wondered around and nearly escaped through a small hole in the fence, which Principle Bump stopped him from doing.
Principle Bump: Nope! You're staying right here.
Luz: Aw. Little rascal.
Bat Queen: These little ones have not had homes in many years. They want to feel a connection. Kneel and state your deepest wish, and your like-minded partner will find you.
Boscha: Ugh, I want my own palisman, not some trashy hand-me-down.
Willow: Your loss! I want to be strong and wise to protect everyone I love. And if anyone gets in my way, they'll feel the sting of defeat.
Bat Queen: Tender yet tenacious. Clover gives her support.
Palisman approached Willow, this one looking like a bee. It nuzzled her making a buzzing sound and turned into her staff.
Willow: Oh my gosh! I'm gonna take such good care of you.
Boscha: Okay fine. I want to play professional Grudgby.
Bat Queen: Oh ho, a competive spirit. Maya will be thrilled.
Boscha got her own palisman now. This one looking like a crab and became her staff, surprising her.
Boscha: Okay I'll admint, this is pretty cool.
Gus went up next.
Gus: Dad wants me to become a master illusionist. But that's easy, so instead I'll become ambassador of the human realm. And re-establish contact with the giraffes.
Gus now got his, this one a blue chameleon. Soon everyone was getting their palisman. But now it was Luz's turn.
Luz: My turn. I want to be a witch.
But when Luz stated her desire, none of the palisman came to her and just looked in confusion.
Luz: Uh, maybe it takes longer because I'm human?
Bat Queen: Palismen bond through emotion. I do not sense any conviction from you.
Luz: That's impossible. I'm Luz, I'm chock full of conviction!
Mathilda: Easy now Luz. Maybe try to be more specific.
Principle Bump: There are many kinds of witches. What do you hope to accomplish with your magic?
Luz: Oh, well I really want to get home.
Gus: Would you still train to be a witch in the human realm?
Boscha: Can you even do magic there?
Luz: Huh, I guess I never thought that far ahead.
Eda: You okay Luz?
Luz was feeling nervous and the axiouty was getting to her. She didn't know what her goal was and was freaking out.
Later that night
Luz was in her room, talking to Christa about her day.
Luz: I don't get it Christa. I stayed here because I wanted to learn magic, right? I wanted to be a witch like Eda and Azura. But what does that even mean?
Christa: You always told me how you desired to be a witch. Is that not enough to get one?
Luz: Appearntly not, but I read stories like this all the time. The main character always has to return home, and what? Did I expect to be a witch back in Connecticut?
Christa: Well can you be?
Luz: ( sighs) No, my glyphs don't work in the human realm. I tried.
Christa: So what is that you want?
Luz: ( frowns) I don't know.
Luz sat on the ground as Christa sat next to her.
Luz: I was so excited for this, but it was such a let down.
Christa: I'm sorry Luz. I'm sure if you think really hard, you'll know what you want to accomplish.
Luz: I guess.
Christa: You know, I don't know if I can get one, but I'd wish to go to school with you. Get to learn more on magic and hang with Willow, Gus and Amity more.
Luz: Really wish I could get you enrolled, at least temporarily. But I don't think we can without a guardian and I don't think Eda is able to do it again.
Eda and King heard the conversation outside the room. They went downstairs where Mathilda and Lilith was.
Mathilda: How's Luz doing?
Eda: She's really bummed out from today.
Mathilda: I feel so bad for her.
Eda: Me too, this was something she really wanted.
Lilith: I was so sure she'd get one. I thought if anything on training to be a witch getting a palisman would be easy for her.
King: So she can't bond with a palisman. Can't you carve one to start a new bond from scratch?
Eda: Yeah except palistrom wood is rare and protected.
King: Oh, well. I could be her palisman. I'm cute, loyal and protective.
Eda: Yeah, but you'd have to remain on a staff, unable to move unless allowed and have to have some magic.
King: Well, uh...okay I can't do that.
Eda: I'd hate to see her sad like this. Same for Chrissy, unable to go to school.
Mathilda: Christa doesn't go to school?
Eda: No, but I know she always wanted to. But I can't enroll her without her guardian.
Lilith: You're not exactly Luz's legal guardian.
Eda: I'm the only guardian she has here. Then again, she's not even a real citizen here. Besides Christa doesn't even have a last name.
Mathilda: Is that right. Wish we could help.
Eda: Yeah make these girls happy.
But then an idea hit them both.
Eda and Mathilda: I got it! You got what?
Eda: I know how to help Luz.
Mathilda: And I know how I can help Christa. I'm gonna go see Principle Bump.
Eda: And I'm gonna do something crazy.
Lilith: Um is anyone going to fill me in?
Eda: Lily you stay here and man the fort. Come on King.
King: Wait what?
Matti: Be back Lily!
Lilith: Wait what are you...
Eda grabs King as the two witches head out to their own separate ways and leaves Lilith alone in the living room.
Lilith: ( sighs) Once again, I was not invited. Well since it's just me.
Lilith gets up to the kitchen and gets a tub of ice cream and gets a crystal ball turning it on.
Lilith: Hootsifer, our progam is going to be on.
Hooty: Hoot! Coming Lulu!
Back in Luz's room.
Christa: Come on chin up Luz. Something good will happen soon.
Luz: I doubt it.
But then out of the Luz's bag came the cardinal palisman she saw from earlier.
Luz: It's you.
Christa: Aw hey there little guy. Look you got one right here.
Luz: I don't believe it. Did you come here for me?
But the cardinal didn't pay much attention to her as it wondered around the room chirping making Luz disappointed.
Luz: No, of course not.
Luz picked up the cardinal and got her cloak on.
Luz: Come on little dude. I'll take you back to your nest.
Christa: I'll come too.
Later.
Luz and Christa made back to the hut where all the palisman were kept in, but there seemed to be somekind of force field around it.
Luz: How do we get in?
The cardinal jumped off her hand and approached the force field. Making it disappear.
Christa: Whoa, palisman powers. Neat.
They opened the door to the hut as they entered and saw all the palisman there.
Christa: Aw, look at them. They're so cute.
Luz: Ok, since we're back, I can try again.
Christa: So you said in order for it to work you need to know what you want in your future.
Luz: Yeah, I just haven't figured it out yet is all.
Christa: So say like me. I really want to find where my home is, who I am and where my family is at.
But then palisman approached Christa. It was a grey wolf, but he wasn't small like the others he was about regular size. He had a crack coming down from his left eye looking like a scar. Christa looked at it confused.
Christa: Oh hello.
The wolf palisman made a whimpering sound and pawed it arm onto Christa's arm wanting attention. Christa petted him as in nuzzled her.
Luz: Aw I think he likes you.
Christa: Yeah, though isn't he a little big for a palisman. I thought they're supposed to be small.
Luz: Maybe he was made for a bigger person. I mean Bat Queen was a palisman made for a giant. Alright now, we're not leaving until I figure out my future and one of you guys becomes my palisman. What if... I use my powers to become a popular magician back in the human realm? No, I'm horrible at card tricks. What if... I stay on the Boiling Isles, and become a rugged bounty hunter? Nah, I'm too lovable.
A while later.
Luz was lying down looking sleepy still trying to decide what she wants. Christa leaned against the wall petting the wolf palisman
Luz: ( sleepily) What if... I open a magic pet shop, but it's password protected. The password is, "You're a little angel.
Christa: ( yawns) Luz we've been here over an hour. I'm tired.
Luz: ( sighs) You're right. This is clearly going no where. Let's just...
But then the hut suddenly moved.
Christa: What was that?
Luz: Uh, Earthquake?
Luz opens the door and see's they were flying. She looked up and saw the hut was taken by an airship.
Luz: I think we're being kidnapped.
Christa: What?
The palisman shook all looking scared.
Luz: Don't worry, everything's going to be fine. Christa.
Christa nods as she formed a vine to grab onto the latch holding the hut. She and Luz climbed up to the airship as Luz took a few leaves from the vine to make some glyphs. They soon made it up to the back and saw the Golden Guard, flying the ship and whistling.
Christa: ( whispers) Oh no. It's that golden jerk from before.
Luz: ( whisper) He's making off with these palisman.
Christa: ( whispers) How are we going to stop him?
Luz showed her the leave glyph which had a fire glyph. They snuck up behind him as Luz slapped the glyph onto his back. The Golden Guard turned to them, but then the glyph activated, sending him off flying off his ship into the distance.
Christa: Well, that was easy.
Luz: Yeah, okay how do we turn this thing around?
They looked around the controls trying to figure how the ship works.
Christa: How do you land this thing?
Golden Guard: Oh you just pull that cord above your head.
Christa: Oh thank you...wha?!
They saw the Golden Guard back who was lying on the front of the ship.
Golden Guard: Heeeeey there.
The Golden Guard using his staff sent the two back and formed a rope tying them up.
Luz: What the...hey!
Golden Guard: Good to see you two again.
Luz: Why are you stealing these palisman Golden Guard?
Golden Guard: Funny you should question that because...
The Golden Guard warped in front of them, up to Luz's face.
Golden Guard: You should be more concerned about yourself. For the crime of... rocketing me off my own ship, you'll be locked in the dingiest cell in the Conformatorium, for the rest of your sad little life.
Luz: Pffft, whatever. I broke out like twice.
Golden Guard: Oh yeah well. Then we'll just uh...um...I don't know what I'll do to you yet but it won't be pretty and as for you Red.
The Golden Guard turned over to Christa. But he looked a bit nervous to talk to her but try to sounded cool.
Golden Guard: Um, you should be in just as much trouble as her. But, I'm willing to let you off the hook if...
Christa: If?
Golden Guard: If you go out with me. I'm off in an hour and I know a good place that has some great wings.
Christa: Ugh, like I'd ever go out with you!
Golden Guard: Fine be that way. The sooner we make it back the castle, the sooner you two will be punished and Emperor Belos will have his palisman.
Luz: You monster!
Golden Guard: Hey it's a cruel world. Now shut up, I got fly this thing.
The Golden Guard heads back to the wheel and flies the ship. Luz and Christa struggled to get, but couldn't. Then Christa had an idea.
Christa: Uh excuse me, Mr Golden Guard?
Golden Guard: What is it now?
Christa: I didn't realize until now, you have a very stylish cloak.
Luz: Christa what are you...
Christa winked a Luz. Luz realized what she was trying to do.
Golden Guard: Oh well, thanks it's made from the best material.
Christa: And have I ever said how...cool you are?
Golden Guard: R-Really?
The Golden Guard turned around and went up to her.
Christa: Oh and that mask. It makes you so...so mysterious.
Golden Guard: ( silent chuckles) Well it makes me feel cool. Are you just saying these things just to escape punishment?
Christa: Maybe.
Golden Guard: Well it's working. Tell me more about me.
Christa: I actually have a question, how did you get back on the ship?
Golden Guard: Oh my magic staff over there of course.
Christa: Perfect.
Christa slammed her foot to the ground as ice was forming and knocked the staff off the ship.
Golden Guard: NO!
Christa: Oops, sorry.
Christa blew a raspberry at his face, making him step back.
Luz: Ha, nice!
Golden Guard: Ha oh, I see what you did there. Clever girl. Very clever. But it's gonna take a lot more than that to stop me.
But suddenly a monster flew from the ground and above the ship.
Christa: Would that stop you?
Luz: What is that?
The monster landed on the ship and starting tearing the sails. The three screamed as the ship was falling to the ground and crashes.
Minutes later.
Luz woke up near a tree. She looked and saw Christa in front of her, but she was facing towards the ground. They were still tied up, until they were found by the red cardinal and wolf palisman.
Luz: Little rascal and Wolfy? How did you get out?
The cardinal pecked it's way through Luz's rope while the wolf bit through Christa's rope setting the two free.
Luz: Christa you alright?
Christa: Landed on my face again, but I'm okay. Look.
Christa pointed in front of them was the Golden Guard's staff. Luz picks it up.
Luz: The Golden Guard's staff?
But then they heard a groan. They looked around a moment and found to their surprise the Golden Guard, unmasked. He appeared to be a teenage boy, with blonde hair, a scar on his right cheek and a gap between his teeth.
Luz: This is the Golden Guard? He looks like a student at Hexside.
Christa: He's actually kinda cute.
Luz: What?
Christa: ( blushing) Uh nothing. Edric is much more charming than he is.
But then Christa's eyes widened and entire face turned red.
Christa: Please don't tell Edric or Amity I said that.
Before the conversation could go anywhere else he groaned again.
Luz: So he's still alive.
Christa: What do we do?
Luz: We'll make him give us the palisman. You wake him up.
Christa: What? Why me?
Luz: ( smirking) You're the one who said he was cute.
Christa: ( squinting her) You win this round.
Christa went up to the Golden Guard. She got close to his face, almost as if she was about to kiss him. But then she slaps him across the face.
Christa: Wake up!
Golden Guard: AAAH! What the?! You! What did you do?
Luz: What? You thought we caused that?
Golden Guard: Uh yeah, cause that's what you like to do. Cause trouble for us.
The Golden Guard saw Luz was holding his staff.
Golden Guard: Hey my staff!
Christa got in front of him and formed a fire ball in one hand and an ice ball in the other.
Golden Guard: Whoa.
Christa: Back off jerkwad.
Golden Guard: Forgot you had some magic.
Luz: You better tell us where the palisman are, or else I'll permit her to incinerate you.
Golden Guard: No way am I gonna hand them over to you. Besides I don't even know where they are.
But then they heard a roar from above. They looked up and saw the monster flying over them. The three of them ducked down behind a boulder. They peaked out and saw the monster land and approach Kikimora and Shadam. It resembled a dragon, but it was hand themed. Th wings, and head looked like hands and it had catterpillar legs that looked like fingers. But with them was the hut for the palisman.
Kikimora: Excellent work my pet. Shadam, how are they?
Shadam: The palisman seem a bit shaky, but are fine. Everything is going according to my plan, this will please the Emperor.
Kikimora: Ahem.
Shadam: Of course I could not have accomplished this or erradicate the Golden Guard without you Kikimora. But where is he?
Kikimora: Hmph, he's dead of course. See?
Kikimora showed him what appeared to be his mask.
Shadam: A mask is not enough. What of the body?
Kikimora: Haven't found it yet, but I doubt anyone could have survived a fall like that.
Luz: Who's that with Kikimora?
Golden Guard: That's Shadam, the oracle of the Legion of Five.
Christa: He's part of the Legion of Five as well?
Golden Guard: The wise and the most dangerous of the group.
Luz: Judging by what he says, he must really hate you.
Golden Guard: Let's just say, I sometimes get under his skin.
Christa: Yeah enough that he wants to kill you.
Golden Guard: Not only that, but looks like they're trying to steal my catch.
Luz: You know after everything you've done, we should turn you in right now.
Golden Guard: You wouldn't dare. Would you?
Christa: And give us one good reason why we shouldn't.
Golden Guard: Because I'm...cute?
The Golden Guard responed with a nervous smile while the two looked at him annoyed. Luz then began to make loud abnoxious bird noises to get their attention.
Luz: RAAAAAA! RAAAA!
The Golden Guard pulled Luz down and covered her mouth, but did gain their attention briefly.
Shadam: What was that?
Kikimora: Eh probably just a bird. I really abnoxious one.
Golden Guard: Hey, hey, hey what kind of crazy chick are you? Don't you know what happens if they find me?
Christa: Hey, it's a cruel world like you said.
Golden Guard: Have you not realized that if they find me, they get you as well?
Luz: ( showing him invisible glyphs) Not if they can't see us.
Golden Guard: I just decided. I don't like you.
Luz: I just decided. I don't care. Now if you don't want to be monster chow than help us get the palisman back.
Golden Guard: No.
Luz: Fine. Christa.
Christa: RAAAAAA! RAAAAAA!
The Golden Guard quickly covered her mouth next.
Golden Guard: Was your father by any chance a vulture?
But he felt his hand getting slimy and realized Christa licked his hand.
Golden Guard: AH, gross. What is wrong with you?
Christa: Don't you put your filthy hands off my face.
Golden Guard: Your face is already dirty. I can't belive I actually thought you were cute.
Christa gasps looking upset.
Luz: How dare you?
Golden Guard: Yeah I said it. Sue me.
Christa: Yeah well, have you looked in a mirror lately, gap tooth.
The Golden Guard covered his mouth in embarrasement.
Luz: Oh ho, nice.
The two hive fived.
Kikimora: I thought I heard something. Maybe he is still out there.
Shadam used his magic and levitated the palisman hut.
Shadam: Meet me in Latissa. We set off in an hour.
Shadam walked away with the palisman hut. Kikimora showed the monster the mask so he could sniff it.
Kikimora: Go and find the rest of him and have yourself a snack.
The monster roared as it caugh the Golden Guard's scent.
Hunter: Oh great it's coming this way.
Luz: Christa hang onto me.
Christa held onto Luz who was just getting the invisible glyph. Before Luz could become invisible she looked at the Golden Guard, looking scared and had no way to go.
Luz: ( sighs) Hey, grab onto me.
Golden Guard: What?
Luz: Listen I don't like you at all, but unfortunatly, I am too nice to let you get eaten. So come with me if you want to live.
Golden Guard looked at Luz and then back at the monster. He didn't say anthing but quickly took off his cloak and placed in on the ground to fool the monster's scent and held onto Luz's shoulder.
Luz: Everyone hold your breath as long as you can.
They all did and turned invisible. Once the monster made it, it couldn't see where they were but found his cloak and ate it. Once it was gone, they breathed again and turned visible.
Luz: Phew man that was close.
Golden Guard: But we got away. Now, give my staff.
Luz: You're not getting this.
Golden Guard: I said...
Christa sparked her hand into fire, making him step back.
Golden Guard: Okay, okay jeez. You know what, forget you guys, I'm outta here.
The Golden Guard walks away.
Luz: What no thank you?
Christa: So ungrateful. Should have let him get eaten.
Luz: Yeah I'm starting to regret that. Hey wait! Where are you going?!
Luz and Christa followed him into Latissa, another town in the Boiling Isles. It was more dark and grim, but had a cool atmosphere to it.
Luz: Wow, I don't get out of Bonesborough much.
Christa: Yeah this place is cool. Hey, so where we going?
The Golden Guard didn't answer and ignored them.
Luz: Hey you haven't told us where we're going. What about Shadam and the Palisman. Hey. Hey!
The Golden Guard still ignored him.
Christa: Maybe he doesn't hear you. Go up to his ear.
Luz: Good idea.
Luz went closer to him and yelled into his ear.
Luz: HEY!
Golden Guard: AAAAH! Geez! What is with you?!
Luz: Hey man we just saved your life, the least you can do is thank us or tell us your name.
Golden Guard: I don't have to tell you nothing.
Luz: You still haven't answered us. Where are we...
Then they arrived. It was Latissa's Emperor's Coven Headquarters. Outside the front was Steve the scout and the two guards Carl and Earl.
Steve: Okay, okay here's one. My ex wife still misses me, but her aim is getting better!
Carl and Earl laughed.
Earl: Good one Steve.
Carl: Yeah it was hilarious.
Golden Guard: Guards, direct me to you communications room.
Earl: Who are you?
Golden Guard: What do you mean? It's me, the Golden Guard.
Steve: You're not the Golden Guard.
Golden Guard: Of course I am look.
The Golden Guard showed them his Emperor's coven tattoo on his wrist.
Carl: How cute, I didn't think kids these days still used temporary tattoos.
Golden Guard: What the... I am superior!
Carl: Oh yeah prove it, tough guy.
Golden Guard: Give me my staff.
Luz hides the staff behind her back.
Luz: Uh, what staff?
Golden Guard: Stop playing dumb. Give it too me.
Luz: Don't mind me I don't know him.
Christa: Yeah, he's a little cuckoo in the head.
Golden Guard: Hey, don't you call me cuckoo in the head.
Carl: Listen kid, we aint got time for games so why don't you head on home?
Golden Guard: How dumb are you three? I'm the Golden Guard.
Earl: Hey, who you calling dumb, scrawney?
Golden Guard: Wha..What?
Carl: Yeah, the Golden guard has gold mask. That's why he's called the Golden Guard.
Steve: Yeah and he definitly doesn't have an annoying voice.
The Golden Guard looks at the dumbfounded while Luz and Christa snickered.
Earl: Yeah and he doesn't have a gap in his teeth.
The Golden Guard covered his mouth again.
Earl: Yeah and he's definitly not a kid. But then again, he's not that cool either.
Carl: Yeah he acts so cool, but man is he such a jerk.
Golden Guard: Excuse me.
Steve: And he's such a tool.
Earl: I'd say that straight to his face.
Carl: Yeah, anyway kid, scram before I call your parents.
Steve: Lunch break is almost here. Want to get some demon wings?
Carl: Aw yeah!
Earl: Definitly. Lets see who can handle the hottest level.
The three of them left as the Golden Guard stood there dumbfounded as Luz and Christa laughed at him.
Luz: Oh ho, dang you just got burned.
Christa: That must a have been so embarrising.
Golden Guard: Alright I've had enough, everything was going fine until you two came in and ruined everything. I'm taking my staff now!
The Golden Guard ran up at Luz and tackled her trying to take the staff off her hands, but she wouldn't let go.
Christa: Luz!
Christa ran up and grabbed him from behind, but he pushed her off.
Golden Guard: Let...go...
Luz: Never.
Christa was getting up, but the wolf palisman didn't like how he was treating he. He growled at him and bit his arm, well actually bit onto the sleeve of his shirt and pulled him back. The Golden Guard lets go of the staff as he tried to get the wolf off of him.
Christa: Quick run!
The wolf palisman lets go of him as he meets back with the two girls and ran away as the Golden Guard got back up and chased after them. They soon ended up in an alleyway.
Christa: Uh oh. Dead ead.
Luz: Not for long.
Luz got a ice glyph and placed it on the floor, making it launche them to the building on top. They looked down and saw the Golden Guard standing there.
Christa: ( sticking her tounge out) Come on Golden Guard.
Luz: Yeah don't you know any levitation spells?
The Golden Guard didn't say anything. He just glared at them and looked away.
Luz: Wait, are you powerless without this staff?
He didn't say anything and stepped back, then he ran and jumped across the objects around to make his way up. He made it to the top. Luz shot a few laser projectiles at him, but dodged each attack.
Luz: Back up or I'll...
Golden Guard: Or what, you're gonna blast me to bits. Nah you're too nice for that.
Christa stepped in front, her eyes and emerald glowing with fire and plant powers in her hands.
Christa: Don't take another step.
Golden Guard: Are you any better Red? Fine, hit me with you best shot. I'd love to see you try.
The Golden Guard opened his arms, letting her attack him. Christa was tempted to attack, but she couldn't. She just stood there but couldn't bring herself to kill him.
Golden Guard: Yeah I thought so. You have all these magic powers, yet you don't even have the guts to kill someone. Besides you can't kill me, then you'll be leaving behind your precious palisman. You don't tend to think these things through do you?
But then the monster flew over them. They looked back at the headquarters they were just at and saw the beast approache Kikimora and Shadam.
Shadam: Any luck with the hunt?
Kikimora: Believe me, my precious never stops until it finds it's prey.
Shadam: Then we must make preparations to head out. At long last that wretched brat is out of the picture.
Kikimora: Hm, there's something we can agree on. The Emperor will truly be pleased.
Golden Guard: Do they really think they can take credit for my catch and kill me? Well they definitly failed on the last part.
Luz: Seems like neither of us want them to win right now. So, let's work together to take back those palisman.
Christa: Luz.
Golden Guard: Then what, you think I'm just gonna let you walk away with them?
Luz: Maybe, you won't have a choice. I'm more formidable than you think.
Golden Guard: Uh huh, sure.
Luz: And Christa here is a super witch. You don't want to mess with her when she gets angry.
Golden Guard: ( sighs) Guess I don't have a choice. Alright truce.
Christa: Uh Luz, a word.
Christa pulled Luz away from the Golden Guard so he wouldn't hear them.
Christa: Are you sure about this?
Luz: To be honest, no. But we don't many options.
Christa: But this is the Golden Guard we're talking about. He works for Emperor Belos and from you told me, he's a horrible man.
Luz: I know, but I'm not doing this to make friends with him. I'm doing this to save the palisman and if he tries to betray us, you and I can beat him.
Christa: I can't. You heard him, we're too nice to kill him.
Luz: If it involves hurting the palisman I won't hesitate and neither will you. Don't let him get to you.
Christa: ( sighs) Okay, lets do this.
Golden Guard: Hey are you two going to gossip all night or are we gonna do buisness.
Luz: No we're gonna start.
Christa: Okay, whats the plan?
A little while later.
Kikimora and Shadam were getting ready to take off with the palisman. The Golden Guard snuck by them, holding a bag.
Golden Guard: Alright I'm back. So what now?
Luz: Well I don't want to spook Kikimora's steed because it might drop the nest and hurt the palisman. So Christa is going to use her fire and ice powers to create a thick mist.
Golden Guard took out a plant from the bag.
Golden Guard: And the sleeping nettles?
Luz: They're essential. Combined with the magic mist, it'll create...
Golden Guard: A sleep inducing smoke, forcing them to land.
Luz and Christa looked at him surprised.
Golden Guard: Oh I uh I read a similar spell, in the book from bones to earth.
Luz: A study of wild magic. You know, Eda once pickpocketed the guy who wrote it.
Golden Guard turned over to Christa.
Golden Guard: Hey uh Red.
Christa: Christa.
Golden Guard: Christa right, since I can't think of a better time. How do you know so much wild magic?
Christa: I've been discovering them.
Golden Guard: You mean you're self taught?
Christa: I don't know.
Luz: She lost her memories when I found her.
Christa: I can't even remeber my real name or home.
Golden Guard: Oh...I'm sorry. I didn't know.
Christa: Well, you do now.
Golden Guard: Hey human...
Luz: Luz.
Golden Guard: Luz, right, right. You can't do magic, yet somehow you make your own.
Luz: That's the power of glyphs.
Luz showd him a light glyph.
Golden Guard: Interesting, you know I've never seen glyphs before. But it seems very similar to the elmental magic practiced in the savage ages.
Luz: Really?
Golden Guard: Actually not many people know this but I heard legends of another...
But then he stopped realizing what he was doing.
Golden Guard: No, no,no,no this stuff is restricted for a reason. You should forget about it before you're hurt.
Luz: Uh huh. You know other than Lilith, I've never talked to another person in the Emperor's Coven.
Christa: Yeah, what made you want to join.
Golden Guard: ( sighs) You were right before, I am powerless. Lot of my ancestors were. My parents were killed by a wild witch when I was very young.
Luz: That's awful.
Golden Guard: Yeah, but then Belos found me. He took me in, gave me a future, gave me a staff with artificial magic, made me the Golden Guard. He said the Titan had big plans for me.
Luz: At least you have your future set.
Golden Guard: At least you can set your own.
Christa: But still, I've never met him before, but I heard about him from Luz and Eda. He petrifies withces who aren't in a coven, he nearly petrified Eda.
Golden Guard: I know it sounds awful. I think so too, but it's for a good cause.
Christa: Killing innocents is a good cause?
Golden Guard: I'm not saying it is. I know it sounds wrong. I know what I was doing, stealing the palisman for him, I know it's wrong, but it's not for me. It's for him. Everything that sounds wrong is for a good cause, to make a better world.
Christa: I don't believe that.
Golden Guard: If you were in my shoes, wouldn't you try to please someone who saved you and took you in.
Christa didn't say anything, but understood what he meant. Emperor Belos sounded horrible, yet if she was in his position, she would probably think the same way.
Golden Guard: I know it's hard to believe I don't expect you to understand now, but you will one day. What about you, why are you with Luz and the Owl Lady? You know they're targets right?
Christa: Because they found me when I was alone and no memory. Eda is so cool, rebellious, a bit cranky but nice. Luz, she's been by my side since I woke. She's my hermana. They're my friends and they're helping me discover more of my powers and I want to be there for them too. Don't you have any friends?
Golden Guard: I don't have any friends. Not just the Legion of Five since they're jealous of me being favored but also you saw what happened down there.
Luz: Not gonna lie it was kinda funny.
Christa: Yeah you really got roasted down there.
Golden Guard: ( sarcastically) Oh ha ha.
Luz: But with all seriousness, everyone deserves a friend.
Then the red cardinal approached the Golden Guard.
Luz: Aw looks like you got one now.
Golden Guard: AAAAH! Get that thing away from me!
Christa: He's just being friendly.
Golden Guard: That's not the point. These things are made of wild magic. It's dangerous.
Christa: Does he look dangerous to you?
Golden Guard: Have you not seen a mogwai before. They start off looking all cute and cuddly yet if you feed them after midnight they turn into gremlins and cause all sorts of chaos.
The cardinal tweeted at him still taking fondness to him.
Golden Guard: Hey listen, I'm not sure if you know, but Red. I think the Emperor is onto you.
Christa: What?
Luz: What do you mean? Christa's never done anything wrong.
Golden Guard: No she hasen't, but when Belos found out about you living here, he grew a suspician on you. Saying there was something familiar about you.
Christa's eye's widened.
Christa: You mean, he knows me?
Golden Guard: I'm not sure, but he really grew suspician when you had you little show at Blight Industries. Selene and Shadam were there that night.
Christa: I guess I'm causing too much attention.
Luz: But what does he want with her?
Golden Guard: I really don't know. Sorry but he kept everything vague to me. All he said was, keep an eye on her and report if she causes another outbreak of power. So my advice to you, keep a low profile Red.
Christa: Wait but if he knows me, then what if...
But then they heard the monster roar as Kikmora and Shadam were ontop riding it about to fly.
Luz: Masks on.
The three of them put on masks so they wouldn't breathe the gas.
Luz: Once they're surrounded with the smoke, we'll have to fly close to see where the land.
Golden Guard: Alright.
Luz: And uh...here.
Luz hands him his staff.
Golden Guard: You sure?
Luz: Just take it. Christa now.
Christa nods and places her hands on the plant. Her eyes and emerald began to glow as she formed the fog with her fire and ice powers. She placed her hands on the plant as it began to create the sleeping fog. Once it was made she lets go as the three got onto the Golden Guard's staff and flew.
Shadam, Kikimora and her monster were then exposed to fog.
Kikimora: ( coughs) What is this...( coughs)
Shadam: ( coughs) No...an ambush! Kikimora, keep flying.
Kikimora: Can't we're...heading down.
The monster was getting sleepy as well as it decended down and landed, forcing Kikimora and Shadam off as they fell uncounious and lets go of the palisman hut. Luz, Christa and the Golden Guard landed as Luz and Christa quickly checked on the palisman.
Luz: The palisman.
They opened the door, the other palisman seemed okay and the cardinal and the wolf rejoined the others.
Christa: Hello babies. Oh you guys look so cold and scared.
Luz took off her cloak and wrapped them up.
Luz: Don't worry, we'll get you out of here and...
But then they heard the Golden Guard's staff activate. They turned and saw him aiming it at them and giving them a dark look. Christa formed her powrs about to attack him as Luz looked at him with a disappointed look.
Luz: So this is it huh? Are you seriously going to do this? You're going to hand all these little guys to Belos? I've seen what he does to them and you do too.
Golden Guard: Just step aside, and you won't get hurt.
Christa: You stay away.
Golden Guard: Come on, we've done this scene already Red. We know you won't do it.
Christa: I will for real if it involves hurting others. You fooled us both. For a moment I thought deep down you were a good guy. But I was wrong. You're just Belos lackey. You're not our friend. You're just the Golden Guard.
The Golden Guard stood their still aiming his staff at them, but then his cold expression turned soft. He couldn't bring himself to do it. He closed his eys and put his staff away and took off his mask.
Golden Guard: My name is Hunter.
Luz and Christa gasped. The Golden Guard, no Hunter just told them his name. Before anything else could happen a small magic projectile hit Hunter from the side of his right head. Luz and Christa looked concerned for a moment.
Shadam: Fools...
They turned and saw Shadam standing before them. He wasn't knocked out. Though his vision was very blurry and couldn't tell exactly who they were.
Shadam: ( silent chuckles) You almost had me there and I have to say that was very clever. I may not be able to see you well, but I can still sense you. But you've caused me enough trouble. Do you even know who you're dealing with? I am Shadam of the Legion of Five and Emperor Belos's loyal oracle! None of you will be leaving with those palisman...alive!
Shadam then took off his robes and revealed to them his true form. He was a slender demon with an athletic build consiting of gold armor around his upper body, arms and shin guards. He wore silver pants and had black pointed shoes. His hands were gold metal gloves and the only organic part of his body was his head. The skin on his head looked like leather and was all black. He was bald had wide set cat like ears, his eyes were yellow and slanted as expected but had a red lines around them, almost like an eye mask. He lacked a mouth, instead was yellow organic looking face plate that glowed whenever he talked and and had a silver stripe around it, from his sidburns and cheek from one side to the other, as it it was a beard but it wasn't but just part of his face.
Luz: Oh man,he is more jacked than I expected.
Shadam: Enough talk.
Shadam raised his right arm and a long sword like blade emerged from his armored arm and got into a fighting stance.
Shadam: Die!
Shadam jumped up in the air and landed back down first targeting Hunter. The two engaged in combat clashing his sword and Hunter's staff. Hunter pushed him off and fired a few laser projectiles at him. The projectiles while hitting him, didn't do much damage.
Hunter: You get the palisman out of here. I'll hold him off.
Christa: But Hunter.
Hunter: Go now!
Luz: Christa let's go.
Luz and Christa were about to get away and head towards Kikimora's sleeping monster. But Shadam who was still fighting Hunter sensed them getting away, kicked Hunter across the head, sending him down. He formed a spell circle and a purple magic projectile at them. It barely misses them as it hits the ground letting out a firey blockade, blocking their path.
Shadam: I told you. None of you are leaving with the palisman alive.
Shadam warped to them. He appeared in front of Luz and was about to strike her down, but Christa formed a block of ice, to shield her. Shadam tried hitting it again and shattered the ice as she and Luz split up. Luz took out a plant glyph and shot out a long vine that wrapped Shadam up completely.
Luz: Ha got him!
At first it worked, but moments after that, his eyes glowed and the vines around his head burnt off.
Luz: Luz, you fool!
Shadam broke free completely as he made his way to Luz, suddenly he felt a whip of vines hit the back of his head and he turned to Christa.
Christa: Fire power!
Luz quickly got away to avoid the attack. Christa formed a spell circle and shot a ray of fire balls at Shadam, which actually hit him. But the smoke cleared up and he still stood unharmed.
Christa: What?
Shadam: Hahahaha! You're well skilled I can see, but you magic is useless against my penetrable armor.
Shadam's eyes began to glow as it fired a energy beam at Christa, she barely dodged his attack and fell to the ground. He approached her about to strike her down.
Luz: Christa!
Shadama was about to kill her, but then Hunter appeard defending her and blocked his attack with his staff. He pushed Shadam away from her and hits him with his staff. Shadam fell back but quickly got up and ran at Hunter. Hunter fired a magic projectiles from his staff, but Shadam kept deflecting them with his sword. Shadam attacked Hunter aggresivly as he could only block his attacks, however the last block he tried, Shadam broke his staff. Hunter looked at if for a moment, but then Shadam grabbed him from the collar of his shirt and first puched Hunter in the stomach and then threw him hard to the ground. Hunter tried to get back up, but then Shadam stomped down onto his chest and began to crush his ribs. Shadam raised his sword up, until vine wrapped around it and then another came around his neck and felt he was being pulled. He saw it was caused by Luz who was holding him back with two vines in her hands. Shadam with all his might pulled back hard, sending Luz flying at him, but then he grabbed her by her neck and started to strangle her.
Shadam: Did you really think you'd be able to stop me?
Luz struggled to get out, but she couldn't. He was crushing her neck and couldn't breathe. If he kept going she would die of either strangulation or with a crushed neck. Shadam continued to strangle her and he kept stomping down on Hunter's chest. Christa saw what was happening, Luz and Hunter were in danger. She just met Hunter, but he still saved her and he didn't deserve this she thought. She got back up on her feet looking serious.
Christa: Put them down!
Shadam didn't listen to her as he contineud his torment. Christa balled her fists. She opened her eyes as they began to glow and so did her emerald. Her hair was flying up as the white aura appeared around her again. Shadam this time stopped, sensing the enormous magic energy.
Shadam: That...that power, I've sensed it before. ( gasps) No, she's here.
Christa: I said, put. Them. DOWN!
Christa's power bursted as she fired a white energy beam at Shadam, making him drop Luz and off of Hunter. The two on the floor looked up at Christa.
Hunter: What happening?
Luz: It's her hidden power.
Shadam: ( in his mind) It is her. The one I saw with Selene. Wait the human must be here, but who's the other...
Shadam was hit again by Christa's white energy beam. He tried to fight back. He warped and appeared from behind her. Christa however saw him coming and slammed her right palm at his chest, letting out an energy wave, pushing him back. He tried to get up, but then a vine formed from her hand wrapping up his entire arm with the his sword. He tried to break free with the other, but then she formed another vine, wrapping up his other arm. He couldn't cut the vines off and then Christa stomped her foot to the ground and his lower body was being covered by the Earth.
Christa: I will not let you hurt anyone else anymore.
But then Christa's power faded away, she turned back to normal and fell to her knees, breathing heavily.
Luz: Christa!
Luz ran to her to help her up.
Shadam: So, she hasn't mastered that power yet and used it all up. Hehehe, foolish move. But here's a gift from me to you and I don't need hands to do it.
Suddenly a third eye opened on Shadam's forehead.
Shadam: Go, the Scorpion's Curse!
The third eye let out a purple ray and it formed a scorpion flying right towards Christa.
Hunter: No!
Hunter got up and shielded her, as the scorpion landed on him and stung him. It died however the moment it stung him.
Hunter: AH!
Luz: Hunter. Okay that's it!
Luz took out a glyph combo which had a water and ice glyph. She formed a wave of water at Shadam and then it turned to ice freezing him. Once he was frozen, Luz helped Christa up as did Hunter.
Luz: Christa you okay?
Christa: ( panting) Yeah I'm just...just tired.
Luz: That must of really took a lot on you.
Hunter: ( in his mind) I've never seen wild magic used like that before. Is this what Uncle despises?
Luz: Well that takes care of Shadam.
Hunter: It won't hold him forever. He'll break out soon, you need to leave now.
Luz: You're letting us go with the palisman?
Hunter: As of now, we're even. Just take them and go.
Christa: What about you, you just got stung?
Luz: And how do we know you won't report what you just saw?
Hunter: I'm fine and trust me, if I reported this, I'd be in so much trouble with the Emperor for letting them all go and for fighting Kikimora and Shadam.
Luz: Yeah, you would be. Let's go Christa.
Luz and Christa got on Kikimora's monster and were about to fly.
Hunter: Oh and Christa.
Christa looked down at him.
Hunter: Just do yourself a favor and stay out of trouble. You can cause a lot of attention and as I said before, the Emperor is not a forgiving man.
Christa: I know.
Hunter: Also, I hope you will learn one day that the Emperor's way is the right way.
Christa crossed her arms looking at him.
Christa: And I hope you learn that the Emperor's way is the wrong way.
Luz took control of the monster as it flew them and the palisman away, leaving Hunter alone down there.
Hunter: Something tells me, I haven't seen the last of them. Especially Red. She is kinda cute.
Luz and Christa were almost back at Hexside to drop off the palisman.
Luz: This was such a crazy night. You know, I don't what to truly make of that guy. He tried to back stab us, yet still helped out.
Christa: He wasn't so bad.
Christa looked back. She doesn't know why, but hoped Hunter would be okay as she was worried what that sting was.
The next morning.
Bat Queen arrived at Hexside where Principle Bump was waiting for.
Principle Bump: Good morning Bat Queen. All the palisman are accounted for, but I'm sure where that thing came from.
He pointed out to Kikimora's sleeping monster. Then the red cardinal and the wolf palisman approached Bat Queen as they spoke to her in their animal volcals.
Bat Queen: You two have found someone suitable? If you're sure, then go on.
With that the wolf and cardinal palisman both bid each other goodbye and went their own ways.
Back in the Owl House.
Luz and Christa made it back to their room, all tired.
Christa: Man, I'm so tired.
Luz: Me too, but more bummed out.
Luz layed on the ground as did Christa.
Luz: Everyone got one except me.
Christa: I'm sorry Luz. Maybe if we came back we...
Luz: No, it'd be pointless. Maybe I wasn't meant to be here.
But the window opened and we see Eda and King covered in dirt and leaves.
Luz: Eda?
Eda: I'd thought I'd find you here.
King: You know we could have used the door!
Luz: What did you get into?
Eda hands her what appeared to be blue wood.
Luz: Oh uh. How thoughful, I'll definitly treasure it.
Eda: It's palistrom wood you ding dong.
King: Now you can make your own palisman.
Luz: Wait but isn't this super rare? How did you get this?
Eda: Oh lets just say we talked to the staff and man in charge at the Bonesborough Garden Club, made some negotiations and made a fair deal to...
Luz: You stole this didn't you?
Eda: Yeah we stole it.
King: It was mainly her idea, I was pulled in into her shananagins as always.
Christa: Then, Luz you can make your own palisman then. That's what you want right?
Luz: I mean, guys this is so thoughtful. I don't know what to say.
Eda: Hey no pressure. But when you know what you want, we'll start carving.
Luz: Well if it's okay, I'd like some time to think. It's hard to think about my future without seeing my mom.
Eda: It's all fine Luz. Just remember whatever you need, we're here to back you up.
King: Yeah and me too.
Eda: I already said we King. You're included too.
King: Well I wanted to ensure her I would be there too.
Luz: Thanks guys.
Eda: Oh and Chrissy, don't think I didn't forget about you.
Christa: What?
Eda: We got a little surprise for you.
Christa waited for what the surprise was but Eda said nothing.
Christa: Uh well.
Eda: ( calling out) I said " We got a little surprise for you!"
Then they heard Mathilda's voice from outside the door.
Mathilda: Oh was that my cue?
Mathilda enters the room looking excited.
Mathilda: Guess who's going to Hexside!?
Mathilda handed the flyer to Christa.
Christa: Wait, you mean?
Eda: That's right Chrissy. You're finally going to school.
Christa: I am?!
Luz: Wait how did you do this?
Mathilda: Well, yesterday after shcool I talked to Principle Bump that I have niece I'm looking after and wanted to enroll her here.
Christa: Really? Wait then won't your brother or sister question this if they find out.
Mathilda: Don't worry, I'm the youngest child of five kids in my family. He won't know exactly who.
Christa: This is...I really wanted to go but...oh thank you Matti!
Christa jumped up hugging Mathilda as did Luz.
Christa: This is so exciting, thank you Matti.
Luz: Yeah you're the best ever.
Mathilda: Aw, you're very welcome and please call me Aunt Matti. I'm here for you guys as much as Eda is.
Meanwhile at Emperor Belos Castle
Hunter was Emperor Belos's throne room, reporting his failure.
Emperor Belos: So, you came back with nothing. Is this the thanks I get for taking you in?
Hunter: Of course not. Uncle I really want to help and if you told me exactly how wild magic did this to you I...
But then Belos formed his arm into a tendril which stretched an grabbed Hunter by his neck, sending him flying to the wall. Emperor Belos got up as approached with his glowing blue eyes, still strangling him.
Emperor Belos: Now what was it that we discussed about the subject of wild magic around me. Do you think I like, doing this to you dear nephew? These outbursts are getting more painful. But you know what else is painful? Watching you fail. This isn't like you and it's baffling. You know what I do to failures Hunter. Would you like to experience the shock treatment?
Emperor Belos with his hand formed electricity around it as he slowlyg approached it to Hunter's face as he looked with fear.
Emperor Belos: No.
Emperor Belos lets go of Hunter as he fell to his knees gasping for air.
Emperor Belos: You have served me well in the past. I can let this go. I know you can do better. You can, can you Hunter?
Hunter: Yes Uncle.
Emperor Belos: And I don't want to hear of what you learn about wild magic or ever catch you learning about it. Do I make myself clear.
Hunter: Yes Uncle. Forgive me, I spoke out of turn.
But then Emperor Belos heard the Entity calling to him through telepathy.
Entity: Belos. Come to me Belos.
Emperor Belos: ( in his mind) Yes Master, I'm coming. ( outloud) You're dismissed Hunter. I must go.
Emperor Belos left the throne room, with Hunter still on his knees shaking.
Later.
Shadam ( hooded up ) and Kikimora were passing by the throne room when to their surprise Hunter came out.
Kikimora: Golden Guard? You're alive? I mean I heard about the crash and I thought...
Hunter: There was an accident. But luckily some travelers saved my life.
Shadam: Travelers you say?
Hunter: Yeah, but I'm doing great. Looks like you had a rough night. Especially you Shadam. You really need to rest more and less on meditating. It's not good for demons of your age.
Shadam went up to his face.
Shadam: Watch it boy!
Hunter: Come on, you don't scare me and never did.
Hunter noticed Kikimora had his mask.
Hunter: I see my mask there.
Kikimora: Oh I found it and was going to report to the Emperor, but...
Hunter: But since I'm back, I'll be taking that back.
Hunter took back his mask and turned away wearing it. But the moment he turned Shadam saw the bandaged spot on his head, where he left a burn mark when he first fought the intruders last night.
Kikimora: Your plan failed Shadam! The Golden Guard still lives.
Shadam: Not only that, but he was the one I fought last night. One of the three intruders who ambushed us. He was there and I think the human and the girl was too.
Kikimora: The girl that Emperor Belos is worried about. We must report this.
Shadam: No! If he finds out that we interfered with the Golden Guard's plan, attempted to assasinate and lose the palisman, who knows what he'll do to us.
Kikimora: Your right. Still I can't believe he got away with it.
Shadam: Not for long Kikimora.
Kikimora: What do you mean?
Shadam took his hood off as he replied.
Shadam: If he took the Scorpion's Curse, then let him enjoy the month. It will be his last.
Later
Hunter was in his room. He layed on his bed as he covered his eyes. He really disappointed his uncle, but he had to let Luz and Christa go with the palisman. He owed them for it. But he can't let that happen again. He knows he has to focuse on his job as leader of the Emperor's Coven and to please his uncle.
Hunter: I know I can help. If I just knew a little more. Ah!
Hunter held onto his chest, he felt a small pain in it, but then it went away.
Hunter: Must have been a cramp.
Then he heard a tweet from his window. It was the red cardinal flying towards him.
Hunter: Palisman?
The red cardinal landed on his lap as he petted it.
Hunter: You shouldn't be here. It'd be bad if Belos saw you.
The cardinal tweeted at him and to his surprise, became his staff.
Hunter: Oh, I was not expecting that.
Meanwhile.
The wolf palisman ran through the forest as it was able to catch the scent of the person it wanted to be with, soon it was making it's way to the Owl House as Luz, Christa and King were outside.
Christa: This is so exciting, I finally get to go to Hexside. Now I can learn more about magic and I'll have you, Willow, Gus and Amity too.
Luz: I'm so excited. You still got to do the entrance exam, but it requires two spells, you got that pretty much covered.
King: But now I'm gonna miss the two of you half the day.
Luz: Oh King...
Christa: ( petting him) We'll still be here for you most of the day. Don't be sad.
King: Hee,hee,hee! OKay I won't.
But then they heard a russle from the bushes and out came the wolf palisman.
King: AH! A wolf. Okay just remain calm and...
Luz: Wait, Christa isn't that the wolf palisman you were with last night.
Christa: It is. Did you come back for me?
The wolf palisman howled at her and to their surprise, became Christa's staff. The wolf was on the staff, but shrunk itself smaller to fit on top.
Christa: Oh, wow uh...this is...this was unexpected.
King: Did you just get a palisman? How did this happen?
Christa: Uh it's a long story King.
Luz: ( crossing her arms) Wow, lucky you.
Christa: Oh Luz I'm sorry. I didn't make you feel worse about this.
Luz: No I'm not upset. I'm amazed and proud of you. You take good care of him.
Christa: I will. I promise.
Meanwhile in Emperor Belos castle
( queue Naraku's theme)
Deep within the castle, Emperor Belos made his way to the room where the Entity resided. He stepped forth on the platform and kneeled.
Emperor Belos: What is it Master?
Entity: What is the status on the Day of Unity?
Emperor Belos: I've gotten the coven leaders involved now. I showed them of what they think it would will participate and offer you their power to complete it.
Entity: Excellent. And the girl?
Emperor Belos: We still don't have any new updates with her. She has not showed off her tremendous power again from before.
Entitiy: Find out soon Belos. If she is who we think she is, than she must have the Eye with her. It is the one thing. The only thing that can stand in my way.
Emperor Belos: But if she is, she should have come for us already and wielding the Eye is not such an easy task. Only witches with access of wild magic can use it. Since we never found it, that's why we made the coven system, why I petrified all the wild witches. To ensure no one can use it.
Entity: Don't get too comfortable Belos. She must be plotting something. Keep a close eye on her Belos. If she shows her power again, kill her.
Emperor Belos: Yes Master.
Entity: And your boy?
Emperor Belos: Hunter will make excellent use for you're plan and...
Emperor Belos grunted as he fell to the floor grunting in pain. Then he transformed into his sludge beast form, he rampaged all over the room and was coming towards the Entity to attack. The Entity's eye glowed and shot out a green energy beam at Belo's forehead, turning him back to his normal form.
Entity: I see your curse is getting worse.
Emperor Belos: It's so painful. I can't get a hold of anymore palisman as of now and my new remedy is not yet ready. Master, you must know of a cure.
Entity: I do, but you will not recieve it. Not until you fulfill your end of the deal.
Emperor Belos: But Master...
The Entity's eye glowed as it shot out a black electrical beam at Belo's, tormenting him and making him yell in pain. Finally he stopped and Belos fell to the floor.
Entity: You will recieve nothing else from me! I gave you enough for what you need. I promise you will live, but I will not cure you until you fulfill your end of the deal. Go and complete the Day of Unity.
Emperor Belos: ( panting) As you...As you command, Master.

Author's Note: That's it for this chapter. Finally I got to do this. I had fun writing this one and had a lot to tell, sorry if it's a long one. I am trying to build a relationship with Christa and Hunter. I'm gonna do the best I can since I've never really written a romance before. Also as you noticed I added a new character who I just came up a few days ago, Dr. Cushing, because I needed a smart character serving the Emperor Belos for the plot. Glad to finally use Shadam since I was anxious to use him and took a while to come up for his design which was why he was hooded. Also your probably wondering, will I make Luz her palisman. I really don't know. I feel like this something I cant mess with and fear I'll get it wrong. If you guys want me to, please give me suggestions of what her palisman could be. I know last few chapters were retellings and if you're tired of that, stay tuned for the next chapter for something more original.
