Chapter 40: A Gift for Amity

Luz was still sleeping in her room. It has been morning for while but Christa allowed her to sleep and not disturb her. But then she got a text on her little tomogotchi device. It was a text from her awesome girlfriend Amity.

Luz took it and read the text. But when she did her eyes widened and screamed so loud her voice echoed out of the house. After she did, Christa and King busted in.

Christa: Luz are you alright?

King: Who's here? I'll kill em!

Luz: Guy's it's bad. Really bad!

Christa: What? What is it?

Luz: Look.

Luz showed the text to them, but looked confused.

Christa: Wait turn it around. Uh... Morning Batata. Ready for tonight? What's tonight?

Luz: I completely forgot. Today is me and Amity's one month anniversary of us dating.

King: Has it been a month already?

Luz: Yeah and we planned to do something fun together.

Christa: You did?

Luz: Yeah remember?

Flashback, two weeks ago.

Luz and Christa were leaving school.

Christa: Bye guys. See you tomorrow.

Luz: Oh wait, Christa wait here I forgot something. Amity hey!

Amity: Oh, yeah Luz?

Luz: Hey so, I've been doing the math lately. Not very good at math in general, but am when it's important. And I realized that in two weeks, it'll be one month since we started dating.

Amity: Is it really? That's crazy.

Luz: I know right! And you know, I've been thinking. What if we had a little anniversary you and me?

Amity: Uh I almost thought of that, but don't you have to wait a year?

Luz: But that'll take like...365 days.

Amity: That's a year.

Luz: Exactly! Come on, it'll be fun. Just you and me Ami.

Amity: ( giggles) Okay. Tell you what. I'll make us a dinner and you can meet me at our tree. Sound good?

Luz: Yeah! You okay with that.

Amity: Definitely. You made me dinner once, I should do for you.

Luz: Okay, I'm so excited then.

Amity: Me too. Oh I got to go.

Amity places a kiss on her cheek.

Amity: Adios Batata.

Amity left as Luz looked all love struck.

Flashback ends.

Luz: We planned this a couple weeks back, but with all the choju we've been dealing with lately I forgot. Oh...how can I forget something I planned. I don't have a gift for her.

Christa: Luz listen, we still have time. Let's just go to town and see what there is.

Luz: Okay, okay. Yeah let's, let's do that.

The three of them ran downstairs and were at the door.

King: Luz, slow down. My tiny legs can't keep up with your long ones.

Luz: Sorry King just anxious, but let us know if you need a lift.

Luz opens the door and bumps into Archimedes and his palisman Jeremy sitting on his shoulder.

Archimedes: Whoa, slow down there kiddo.

Luz: Oh sorry Archy.

Archimedes: You look like your in a rush.

Christa: We're about to head into town so Luz can find a gift for Amity.

Luz: Today's our one month anniversary and I forgot to get her a gift.

Archimedes: Anniversary? That's supposed to be a year isn't it?

Luz: Well we couldn't wait that long wanted to do this. Yet I've been dealing with so much lately that I forgot it.

Archimedes: Oh, that's no good. Then you better get going. Oh and is Eda here?

Luz: Oh sorry Archy but she and Lilith went to go spend time with their dad.

Archimedes: Wait what? We were supposed to meet up today.

Christa: Didn't she send you a message? I saw her text you.

Jeremy cawed at him.

Archimedes: I'm about to check hold on.

Archimedes formed his penstagram scroll to look.

Archimedes: Wait there it is, but how did I...( groans) had the thing on silent.

Jeremy cawed at him for missing the text.

Archimedes: (to Jeremy) I'm sorry. I forgot to unsilent my penstagram.

Luz: Sorry Archy. You came all this way for nothing.

Archimedes: I wouldn't say completely for nothing. Hey, how about I help you look.

Luz: Yeah?

Archimedes: Of course. Coming from someone who's in a relationship longer, I know what girls love.

Luz: Uh, not to burst your bubble but I started dating Amity only two weeks after you started dating Eda.

King: Oh ho burn!

Archimedes: Uh...well...that's still two weeks longer.

Later.

The four of them were in down town Bonesborough looking through the shops. Luz was browsing excessively at each stand.

Luz: No. No. Too simple. Too cheap. Okay that is clearly fake.

King: Ugh, Luz we've been searching an hour already.

Luz: King someday when you fall in love and want to plan a special day with a special someone, then you'd know you have to get them a good gift.

Christa: Hmm, oh wait she still needs a new glove since hers got ruined with the titan blood. Get her a new pair of gloves.

Luz: Eh, it's not really much of a gift though. That would be like she lent me five dollars and then I say I have a gift for her and that gift was the five dollars I owed her. See what I mean?

Christa: I guess. What's a dollar?

Archimedes: Hey I don't think Amity would care what kind of gift you'd get her. Even if it was just something simple.

Luz: But I really want to get something good for her. She's so awesome, cool and beautiful. You'd do the same for Eda wouldn't you.

Archimedes: ( sighs) Yeah, I would actually. How about you get her a necklace.

Luz: She already has one, but maybe bracelet like ...( gasps) that!

Luz saw a stand of decorative jewels of necklaces and bracelets. She ran to it and saw the merchant witch there.

Merchant: Hello. I see you're interested with my fine jewelry here.

Luz: Yeah I am. Oh, there's so much to choose from. What would you recommend to give to a special someone.

Merchant: Well, I would recommend...

He takes out a photo of what looks like a red gem

Merchant: The blood ruby. They're very valuable and make gifts to loved ones. Comes in both necklace or bracelets.

Christa: Oh wow.

Luz: Yes! That's perfect!

Merchant: Unfortunately I don't have any on me.

Luz: What?

Archimedes: Do you know when you would have more?

Merchant: That's the thing. My last supplier got eaten three days ago and they're still searching for a new one. Who knows when I'm going to get another shipment.

Luz sadly moans as she slams her face on the counter.

Merchant: That is unless you have a blood ruby with you, I can make it into a bracelet. Plus it would be cheaper to make you one rather than buying.

Luz: We don't have. Thanks anyway.

The group leave the stand.

Luz: I thought I had it. Now what do I do?

King: Just get something else. Like if they don't have my favorite flavor of ice cream. I always get my back up.

Christa: Sorry Luz, how about you get her uh...oh how about this nice sun hat.

Luz: I don't know.

Archimedes saw the disappointed look on Luz's face and felt bad for her.

Archimedes: Hey Luz, um... okay now don't get your hopes too high up, but I might know where we can find a blood ruby.

Luz looked up to him.

Luz: Really?

Later.

Archimedes lead them to a cave in a forest.

Luz: What is this?

Archimedes: This cave here was once used for mining gemstones and has been abandoned for years. However I always heard rumor that some still remain deep with the vein of the cave. We might find some but hopefully a blood ruby in there.

King: Hold on. You want us to go in there?

Luz: You scared of the dark King?

King: No but last time we went into a cave, we got caved in by Christa's ex boyfriend.

Christa: He was not my boyfriend and we never had a thing!

Archimedes: Easy. I assure you this nothing like the Cave of Terrania like you said. It's abandoned, there are no monsters and there is no reason for any scouts to be here. And don't worry, I'm here with you.

Luz: Well if there's a chance that we may find a blood ruby, then I'll take it. If you two are uncomfortable you can stay.

King: Whoa I'm not scared of anything Luz. You know that.

Christa: Says the time you thought you saw a giant spider in the house, only to be a shadow of a normal one.

King: You screamed too that day.

Christa: I wasn't as high pitched as you were.

The four of them entered the cave, but once they entered the ground shook and the demon Sabotendar rose out of the ground.

It stood in biped stance with a red shell around it's body with spiky like fins on the back that went up to his head. The arms and legs had green scales with red hands with sharp claws. The tail was green had a stinger at the end and the head was red with a pair of spikes on each side of the head with green glowing bug eyes and it's mouth was like scissor like mandibles, with foaming saliva bubbling out from it like a crab. It roared ( stock King Crab roar) and in it's hands were two small rodent like creatures. He brought one of them up to his mouth and devoured it while the other bit onto his hand. This caused him to let go as the rodent creature ran into the cave as Sabotendar got out of the ground and chased after it.

In the cave.

Luz had a light glyph to light the area as Archimedes also used his staff to light the way. There wasn't much in the cave as they walked. But then Archimedes stopped. The others stopped also and saw a fork in the road as there were three path ways in the mine.

Luz: What is it?

Archimedes: Before we move any further, this could be a maze if go through the wrong path. If we had a rope or bread crumbs to lay down we might not end up lost.

Luz: I got something.

Luz got a plant glyph and formed a long vine and tied it to a rock.

Luz: So which way?

Archimedes: Uh, left.

The went through the left path and as they did, Sabotendar came across the fork in the road path but lost his meal, but he did see the vine on the ground. He looked and saw where it was going and followed.

They kept going deeper until they found a large open area. But there seemed to be nothing. Archimedes examined the walls and looked into his bag.

Archimedes: Hmm. Let me see.

He got a small hammer and chisel and starting hitting the wall. He broke off some dirt and stone and saw something shine.

Archimedes: Wait, wait I think I see something.

Luz: Is it the ruby?

Archimedes: I can't tell, but this might take me a while to dig out.

Christa: No need to do all the work Archy. Stand back a little.

Christa placed her hands on the wall. Her eyes glowed and her hands pushed the walls, vibrating it and crumbling it to dust. The outer walls were gone and the whole room shined showing all sorts of gems.

Luz: Whoa, it's so beautiful.

Archimedes: Whoa, okay that's one way to do it. Nice job Christa. You're really improving your magic.

Christa: Thank you.

King: Wow, look at all this. How did they miss mining all this?

Archimedes: As I read, most of the resources were taken fifty years ago but recent discovery shows that gold and other minerals maybe able to replenish over time. I didn't expect this much though.

Luz: One of these has to be it. Let's start looking.

Everyone started searching around the room. There were all sorts of gemstones but haven't found any blood rubies yet.

Christa: Anything yet Luz.

Luz: No, wait is this it?

Luz pointed at a gemstone as Archimedes took a close look at it.

Archimedes: It's a topaz.

Luz: Oh, thought I had it.

Archimedes: It's okay, we'll keep looking.

Luz: Ha, you know this almost reminds me of picking flowers with dad.

Archimedes: Yeah?

Luz: Yeah, we used to pick flowers and he always brought flowers on our birthdays.

Archimedes: Is that right. You made mention of him before. What was he like?

Luz: Well, he was actually kinda like you.

Archimedes: Really?

Luz: Okay maybe not as smart as you but I mean he was a nice and hardworking man. But mom told me how they met in high school and knew each other for years, like you and Eda. He worked hard for me and mama and always made sure we were okay and put our needs before his. And also he was a bit awkward in some conversations like you.

Archimedes: Wha...I'm not like that anymore.

Luz: ( chuckles) Sure. But he's sort of the reason why I got into Azura. But he and I used to play together but then he got cancer and...

Luz wiped her as she tried to keep herself from thinking that.

Luz: I mean it happened so long ago and I'm not that bothered by it anymore. Don't worry.

Luz felt a hand place on her shoulder by Archimedes.

Archimedes: I'm sorry. That must have been very hard for you to lose him at such a young age.

Luz: It's alright. But I'm really hoping to make it home in a month. It'll be the anniversary of his death and me and mom would take flowers to his grave and, well spend the day together.

Archimedes: Hey, I'll make sure you'll make it in time.

Luz smiled at him as she held his hand.

Christa: It's nice that you knew your dad. I still wish I can remember mine.

King: Can't even find mine or wonder if he even wants me.

Archimedes went over to the two.

Archimedes: I'm sure you will soon. I'd like to meet him and tell him how much he's lucky to have such a strong girl and King we're still going to find yours.

Christa: Really appreciate Archy.

Archimedes: Listen I want you three to know that Eda's not the only one that's there for you. I am too. If you ever need anything or any help, you can see me also okay.

Luz and Christa smiled at him and ran up hugging him.

Luz: Thanks Archy.

Christa: You're the best ever.

Luz: King aren't you going to hug your future step dad.

Archimedes and King: Step dad?

Luz: Well if Archy married Eda, wouldn't that make him your new step dad. You'd have someone at least.

Archimedes: ( blushes) Uh now wait a minute. It's a bit early to talk about that.

King: Yeah, I mean I can't imagine him as my dad.

Archimedes: Right I...wait what's that's supposed to...( gasp) wait. Wait a minute.

Archimedes got up and something up on the wall. A red gemstone.

Archimedes: That's it. That's the blood ruby. Up there!

Archimedes tried to reach up, but couldn't.

Archimedes: ( grunts) I can't reach it. If only I had some kind of boost.

Luz: Give me one, I think I can reach it.

Archimedes gave Luz a boost as she sat on his shoulders. She used the hammer and chisel around the blood ruby as she tried to chisel it out. Then they heard a roar.

Christa: What was that?

They saw Sabotendar enter the room, roaring upon seeing the group.

Christa: A demon.

King: ( looking at Archimedes) A demon in a cave that's supposed to be uninhabited?

Archimedes: What? Oh like I knew a Sabotendar demon wondered inside a cave.

Sabotendar roared and ran at the group.

Luz: Archy what do we do.

Christa: We got this guys. Come on King.

King: Right.

Archimedes: Hold on wait!

Christa placed her hand on the ground, forming ice spikes and coming at Sabotendar. Huge spikes came up at him as he stepped back. King let out a sonic wave hitting the demon and into wall. Sabotendar got back up as Christa formed fire ball a threw it at him. Sabotendar then spat a stream of foamy substance at the fireball, canceling the attack and it was coming at Christa.

King: Christa look out!

King jumped up and pushed her down, avoiding the attack as it shows to be acid.

Christa: Acid foam? I could have dissolved from that. Thanks King.

King: No prob. But don't stop now.

Sabotendar spat acid foam at the two again. Christa formed a stone wall to block it. The acid was barely eating through as he used his stinger tail and impaled through the wall, shattering it. King and Christa barely dodge it as the tail stretched out coming towards Luz and Archimedes.

Archiemdes: Get back!

Archimedes grabbed Luz and jumped back as the tail impaled the wall. It began to crack and pulled his tail out, as stone chunks and gemstones collapsed to the ground, the blood ruby also fell down near Luz.

Luz: The ruby.

Luz was about to grab it, but stopped when a foot stomped near it and looked up and saw Sabotendar. He got his stinger tail out and about to impale Luz, but then Archimedes appeared in front of her, forming his staff into a scythe and cutting the tail off. Sabotendar roared and stepped back.

Luz: Archy.

Archimedes: Everyone get out of the cave.

Luz: Without you.

Archimedes: Do as I say. I'll meet you out. Trust me, I got this.

Luz: ( sighs) You better be out in five minutes or I'm coming back! Christa, King!

Christa and King met up with Luz as the three ran out. Sabotendar roared at Archimedes as he looked unfazed.

Archimedes: I'll be out in four.

Sabotendar roared and ran at Archimedes about to slash him with his claws. He grabbed his staff trying to take it from him. Archimedes held onto his staff as it glow and shocked Sabotendar off. He then retaliated with his acid foam. Archimedes rolled out of the way, but Sabotendar jumped on him and was on top of him. He tried to bite his head off with his scissor mouth. Archimedes kept moving his head side to side to avoid each bite. He saw his staff beside him. He kept avoiding the bite attacks as he desperately reached for his staff. He eventually got it and stabbed the scythe into the left eye. Sabotendar got off as Archimedes jumped up, he waved his scythe as it threw a slash wave at Sabotendar. He got hit and Archimedes ran at him and slashed across the chest. Sabotendar stepped back roaring in pain as Archimedes ran out of the cave.

We cut to Luz, Christa and King still waiting for him.

Luz: It's been too long. We should go back.

Christa: I'm worried too, we have to help him.

King: No need. Here he comes now.

They saw Archimedes running out.

Christa: Did you make it?

Archimedes: I'm about to. Everyone stand back.

They saw Sabotendar running at them. Archimedes started spinning his staff as it began to glow. As it spined it formed six small spell circles and aimed it at the top of the cave. Magic projectiles were firing at the top of the cave and right before Sabotendar exited the cave, he's crushed by the rocks falling down. Dust and smoke formed, but soon cleared up as the group now saw the cave sealed up and Sabotendar's arm sticking out moving a little, until finally stopping.

Archimedes: ( panting) Oh...that was a little rough.

Luz: ( frowned) Yeah, we made it. But we didn't get the ruby.

Christa: I'm sorry Luz.

Archimedes: You sure about that?

Archimedes took out from his pocket the blood ruby.

Archimedes: You really think I was going to leave without what we came for?

Luz's eyes sparkled as she lunged and hugged him.

Luz: Archy you're the best ever! Thank you.

Archimedes: Of course. Let's hurry back before that jewel merchant closes.

Luz: ( checks her phone) Oh yeah how much time do we have...AAH! It's in an hour. I'm not ready.

Archimedes: Go home and get ready. I'll meet you there to give you the gift.

Luz: ( running) Guys's let go.

Christa: Luz wait, I think my shoes are...WHAAA!

Christa tripped and fell onto her face.

Christa: Ow...my face.

Later that night.

Amity was sitting under the tree she and Luz made. She had a picnic spread out with some plates, utensils, cups and a candle. She was sitting there patiently for Luz. She was about to text her until she heard a faint running sound. She turned and saw Luz running towards her.

Amity: Luz?

Luz: He-Hey Ami. Sorry I'm late.

Amity: Oh no it's fine. I just set this up five minutes. You okay, you looked like you were in a hurry.

Luz: I was just uh...making sure I had everything.

Luz sat down next to her and hugged.

Luz: Happy one month Anniversary Ami.

Amity: ( hugging her back) Happy one month Anniversary Batata.

We watch as Amity pours a bubbly drink for her and Luz as the clicked their cups and drank and handed Luz her meal she made and packed in a tray.

Luz: Amity this is really good.

Amity: Thanks. It's Aunt Alice's specialty. She taught me the recipe for this.

Luz: And you nailed it.

Amity: Thank you.

They kept eating until they were done.

Luz: Ugh, I'm stuffed.

Amity: ( poking her stomach) Yeah, some one really enjoyed.

Luz: ( laughs) Stop. Oh wait, I have something for you.

Luz took out a small present for her.

Amity: For me, oh Luz.

Luz: Open it up.

Amity unwrapped the ribbon and opened the box. Her eye's sparkled when she saw her gift. It was the blood ruby Luz went out of her way to find, but was made into a bracelet.

Amity: Is this a blood ruby?

Luz: Yup.

Amity puts it on

Amity: Luz, wow thank you. You must have spent a fortune on this.

Luz: Eh you could say that, but I had help from Archy. He knows how to pick gifts. Do you like it?

Amity: I love it. It's amazing. It's definitely better than what I got you.

Luz: Oh don't feel that way. Let me see what you got me.

Amity hands her gift to Luz. It was also small. She opened it up and her eyes widened of what she saw. It was necklace. It looked like Amity's which had a moon except it was a full moon.

Luz: Oh wow, Amity it looks just like yours. We'll match together.

Amity: There's more. Open it.

Luz opened the necklace, revealing to be a locket. In it was a small picture of Amity. Luz let out a small gasp.

Amity: I made it for you. For in case...you know if we were separated or if we can't see each other anymore, you'd have something to remember me by and know that I'll always be thinking of you.

Luz pulled her into a tight hug and kissed her on the cheek.

Luz: Oh Amity I love it. You really put your heart and soul to it. But don't be scared of us being separated. We'll always be together you and me. And even if we are or I can't see you anymore, I'll always remember you.

Amity: Oh Luz.

The two kissed each other and held onto one another for a moment.

Luz: Oh...wowzers.

Amity: Pffft, what?

Luz: Uh...ugh why did I say that. First crikey now wowzers. Why can't I be cool with these moments.

Amity laughed and playfully pushed Luz onto her back. She went down to her laid her head onto her chest and nuzzled her.

Amity: Sorry do you mind?

Luz: Not at all. Cuddle me as much as you want.

Luz wrapped her arms around her and enjoyed the nuzzle. Amity scooted down and lifted Luz's shirt a little exposing her belly. Amity placed a few kisses on her belly making Luz giggle and then rested her head on it. Luz smiled at her stroked her hair. The two just stayed together for a little while longer and just enjoyed the night. It was a pretty successful date. Luz looked down at her new necklace as she absolutely loved it. Amity may think her gift was better, but Luz knew the gift she made for her was the best she ever got from her. She was so grateful to have someone like Amity and will cherish every moment with her.

Author's Note: That's it for this chapter. Just wanted to make this to pace out the next arc and was also an excuse for Luz and Christa to have a mini adventure and end time with Archimedes as a father figure and to make up some more of my own Lumity. But I'm pretty sure this is the last filler chapter if you got tired of it.

But now to address the elephant in the room, um... I messed up. I messed up big with the story. So for you fans of the show, I'm sure we all liked the episode " Thems the breaks kid" for how Eda and Raine met. Now here's the problem, I didn't know that the two knew each other as kids. I say this because when I wrote this, I had no flashbacks of Raine being there with the group nor did I know Raine and Eda met as kids. But how could I know if there was no evidence. Or was there but I missed it before the episode aired. Was there anything in Eda's Requiem that I missed that implied when they met or any other foreshadows of Raine I missed? I don't know but I need some plot elements of that origin in order to tell the next arc so I did it again and re did a few old chapters, most notably the two part Eda's Requiem and Seraphina My love part 1 and added or changed some plot lines. Oh and I added the crikey joke in " A Date with my Awesome Girlfriend."

I'm sorry. I really am. I'm literally turning into George Lucas who constantly goes back and re do Star Wars with the special editions, except I'm not proud of it. I know this is really unprofessional of me and poor story telling.
But I need some plot elements of that in order to properly tell the next arc as well as wanting to stay faithful to the show but still add my style and tone to it. But I'm 95% sure that's the last time I do that. So I recommend you re read those three chapters I did to better understand the next arc.
