"Someone Talking"
'Someone Thinking'
Following from what happened last time the Huntik team was still in the chamber of the ring of Arc, with Sophie unfortunately still unconscious with the others still drained from dealing with the trap. Fortunately Lok noticed an out of place raised tile which he moved to reveal a new way out, which he immediately told the others, "I think there's another exit back here!"
"Then we don't need this one." Zhalia said as she began making her way over to the other entrance and raised her hands. "Touchram!"
From her hands two blasts of green energy caused a cave-in sealing that entrance off and preventing the organization from using it for a stretch of time.
"Zhalia, grab the ring." Dante ordered, with the woman grabbing the ring.
"Careful that crazy ring will scramble your brains," Lok tried to warn unfortunately he was a bit slow as orange energy swirled around her causing pain for the blue haired women before she yelled out.
"Headcage!" The minute that she uttered the spell the energy from the ring stopped, with Zhalia even smiling at her success, while slipping the ting onto a finger.
"Impressive." Dante immediately congratulated on her success. "That's not a spell you see everyday. Everyone, out the back, now!" With that the group ran with Dante still carrying Sophie.
After a bit of running to give them some distance from the organization they took a moment to catch their breath, and it was at that moment that Sophie began waking up from the realm of unconsciousness.
"Dante we beat them," she said half dazed, and no doubt talking about the trap.
"Sophie, your awake." Lok said upon realizing that Sophie was waking up, happy that hi friend was alright. He also was trying to help her up.
"Of course I am!" She said rather defensively, while also shoving Lok away before asking angrily, "what's going on."
Zhalia answered her question from where she had been leaning against one of the walls, before either Dante or himself could, "waiting on you sleeping beauty."
Cherit also supplied flying next to zhalia, "welcome back lass, we're glad you're finally awake."
The glowing and floating ring in the center of the room immediately drew Sophie's attention as she moved closer to examine it before asking the group, "is that the ring of Arc? Something is wrong with it, I can feel it." Suddenly she briefly touched it and ended up feeling it's power, "it's cursed!"
Dante walked over to the table where they had placed the ring and told Sophie, "we can't do anything with the ring like this. Know any good Casterwill spells, Sophie?"
Sophie seemed to be recalling an old memory before she nooded. "Yes. Well, I should say maybe I've read all about it, but I've never seen a real curse ."
"It won't be your last." Dante said in reassurance.
"You'll be OK Sophie, you're like the homework master," Lok started trying to boost Sophie's confidence.
With that Sophie moved to stand in front of the ring and after a deep breath to calm herself she grabbed the ring and just like when Lok and Zhalia had touched it, she to felt its power.
When Lok saw her struggling he stated. "Sophie! Come back to us!"
Cherit also supplied, "you can do it just keep it together."
Lok and Cherit's words seemed to help a lot as she finally cried out. "Revoke!"
Soon after the ring dropped to the table, Sophie hunched over the table obviously drained after pulling that off.
"It worked! Nice." Lok cheered, happy for his friend and teammate.
Sophie sighed before saying, "yes, but only for maybe 30 minutes. Then the curse will overpower my magic."
Dante put a hand on the Sophie's shoulder and said reassuringly. "That's 30 minutes more than we had. Good work."
Sophie smiled, and forced herself to stand, after the praise.
Dante began pulling out his holotome before placing it on the table before starting to talk.
"Seekers, we have a mission, aptly named Joan of Arc's Ring. Our objective is to protect the Ring of Arc from getting into the hands of the Organization, and safely deliver it to a Huntik Foundation safe-house." As he was talking a card appeared from the Holotome, which he quickly grabbed. Soon after he pulled up a map of the Catacombs.
"Notre Dame is a Huntik Foundation safe house, so I take it that's the one that we're planning to give the ring to?" Sophie asked, while looking at the holographic map displayed in front of them.
Lok crouched down so that he could be eye level with the holotome, and proceeded to point out several moving obstacles in their way of getting to Notre Dame. "But look I haven't seen so many bad suits since my TV got stuck on the news channel. We'll never get past em!"
With that the team turned to Dante, expecting that he had some sort of plan.
"True, but if we split up, our chances increase, and the holotome will help us avoid the suits."
Lok spoke up getting the general plan, "we take the paths of least resistance- so who takes the ring?"
Zhalia stepped forwards, holding something which she gave to Dante, and said. "Lucky for you, my disguise kit has a selection of rings. I modified them with a spell, so now we have three fakes."
"I get it we'll all have one! The Organization won't know who to go after!"
"It's a good plan, but if one of us gets captured? Their magic can steal the info right from our heads!" Sophie said pointing out a flaw before turning to face Dante, who seemed to have a plan for that.
"Exactly. That's why no one will know who has the real ring except for me." With that the team split up each going down a separate with Cherit following Lok. Lok immediately upon separating from the group began digging as he entered into a more open area of the catacombs.
"Cherit through here."
"I'm fairly sure that this isn't the route Dante plotted." The titan said.
"There is one way to find out, look at this place no one's been here in hundreds of years." Lok said exploring the chamber he and Cherit were in.
The titan huffed, and flew behind Lok before saying, "You know, I'm supposedly here to keep you out of trouble Lok!"
Lok shrugged. "Stop worrying! You don't think Dante expected us to follow that route, do you?"
"Aye, you're probably right at that."
With that th duo kept moving forward till the caves gradually turned pitch black, that was until Lok called for, "Boltflare!"
The spell was quick to reveal a terrifying hallway. For dozens of skeletons that probably belonged to dead soldiers lay everywhere, with a sign hammered into the wall behind them. Lok and Cherit moved to examine the sign more closely.
"What's all this. Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood. Maybe from the French revolution."
"Even I know that and I have no head for human history." The two deemed it best to at least give these people a moment and honored the dead. Soon after they moved on with Lok deciding to sit next to a skeleton.
"I guess these guys came down here to hide during the revolution, huh?" Cherit nodded, and noticed the sadness in Loks eyes.
"What's on your mind Lok. Are you alright?"
"It's kinda hard to explain. When I was real small, my Dad would bring back all kind of amazing things from his adventures, and I'd try to imagine all the incredible, secret places where he'd go to find them." Lok said as he grabbed the bolt flare and held it in front of his face while looking at it.
"Well, here you are!" Cried Cherit.
"Yeah, here I am." With a sigh, Lok let go of the ball of energy, and it soon began following the pillar to shine some light on a new area of the room that they were currently in. With Lok getting up to follow after the boltflare.
"Hey, Cherit look at this!" Lok said, looking at the newly revealed skeleton that seemed to belong to surprisingly enough a civilian.
"This is no solider!" Cherit agreed with what Lok had thought. Then Lok noticed a box with tools sitting next to the skeleton and picked one of them up.
"Hey these are archaeology tools? How well do you think these soldiers knew the Catacombs?" Lok wondered holding one of the tools to his face in order to study it.
"Don't remember much about times then. Revolutions tend to blur together, you know?"
Lok knelt next to the box, and tried to fiddle with the padlock to open it a bit, before sighing. Then a thought came to him before pulling out his new titans amulet.
"This is a great time to test out Springer!" The Meso titan appeared in a blaze of gray and blue smoke that soon formed into the two tailed raccoon like creature, that after Lok poked its tails gently quickly got to work opening up the box. It in Lok's opinion cutely scratched his head before infusing one of his claws with magic before putting it into the lock which seemed to open it. After Lok's newest Titan did that it quickly returned to its amulet.
With that done Lok could finally open the box revealing weathered books
Huh, these soldiers were just normal people, they needed a guide to hide down here
"So this fellow is- I mean was an archaeologist," Cherit said as Lok tried picking up one of the books from the chest but sadly it turned to dust due to its age, with the dust causing Lok to start coughing at least until the smoke cleared. After which he looked more closely at the books and found a scroll that seemed to be in decent condition
"Wait this one seems to be in pretty good shape," Lok said as Cherit flew over to read over his shoulder, and a familiar image was found once Lok opened the scroll. "Hey I think I've seen this before."
"Tell me Lok could it have been in your father's journal look," Cherit urged.
"Yeah," Lok agreed as he pulled out his dad's journal and scrolled through it before finding the same image, "a match my dad had a copy of this picture, it must be important."
Sadly all good things must come to a end, as from one of the entrances came voices no doubt from some suits, "hey there light coming from over here."
"Uh oh," Lok said as he grabbed the scroll and put it in his bag before going out a different way, with Cherit covering up the Boltflare with a bucket. While the suits had been tpgetting their Lok had quietly brought out both Lindorm and Kipperin with them currently hiding above the ceiling looking down at the trio of suits and the two redcaps backing them up, Lok also noticed that all three of the suits seemed to be wearing night vision goggles that bore a resemblance to the visors Redcaps wore. He decided to have some fun with the suits by making one of the skeletons move utilizing some rope that he had to make it seem like it was running.
"Over there! Augerfrost!" The suits sent out blasts that destroyed the skeleton, with one of the suits even picking up the skull, "it's just a skeleton."
Lok decided to do the same trick again and moved another one of the skeletons and this time the suits sicked one of their redcaps on the things, that's when the suits seemed to get smart, but he wasn't intending to run. Soon after he had Lindorm drop down and impale the closest redcap with his claws sending the thing back to its amulet.
"Now, Lindorm let's cut down these guys," Lok said to his dragonic Titan, which he seemed to greatly like the idea considering he's always greatly enjoyed fighting. With that Lok began making quick work on the enemy suits, while Lindorm quickly shredded the remaining redcap that accompanied the suits. In no time at all the suits were down and unconscious, with the redcaps titan sent back to its amulets courtesy of Lindorm. With that he returned both kipperin and Lindorm.
"Well let's get out of here!" With that Cherit and Lok left the tunnel they were in, after a while they ended up hearing the scream from Sophie, "Dante, Lok someone help!"
Cherit and Lok turned to one another, with Cherit saying, "that's Sophie it came from down there."
Luckily for everyone it didn't take long to arrive at where Sophie was and they found her dangling from the side of a wall, however that left them with the problem of trying to get her up here.
Sophie soon demanded, "I can't use any of my spells, hurry up and get me out of here."
He soon went over the options in his head, but just before he could come up with a plan Sophie lost her grip so thinking first, he jumped down grabbed the wall with one hand and grabbed Sophie's hand before pulling her up, after which a hyperstride got us both out of there unfortunately they soon found themselves surrounded by suits.
"Look there's no escape just give yourselves up, I guess I'm not the only one who heard you."
Sophie merely looked pissed and said "you shouldn't have come at all, my voice could have just been part of an organization trap."
"I knew it was you," Lok supplied.
"What makes you so sure," Sophie questioned.
Simple, you called for Dante to help, then me, then anyone else, but never Zhalia."
This just seemed to piss off the suits, "stop stalling, and give us the ring of Arc."
"Is that all, sure here you go," seeing no point to keep up the charade as Lok doubted Dante gave him or Sophie the ring, and so tossed his ring over to the suits who seemed surprised at what he did.
"Here take mine too."
The lead suit held both rings in his hands and realized immediately that the rings were fake, "these are fakes, you'd never give them over if they were real."
"Oh you're too smart for us," Sophie said with a smirk.
"We anticipated this, let's get them," one of the suits said menacingly as they began to encircle the
"Then we'll go after the others."
"Stand back or you'll feel the fury of my wraith," Sophie said getting into a fighting stance.
"Dude she's a Casterwill, you do not want to go there," Lok cheekily added.
"Look kid you can't win against these many."
"Who said we were trying to defeat you."
"All we got to do is keep you busy until Dante and Zhalia escape," Lok said surprising the suits.
"What!"
"It's safe to assume that your superiors will do something truly horrible to you if you let that happen."
"It'd be worse than anything we could do anyway."
"These two are obviously a decoy."
"They're not worth the trouble, let's go," with that the suits left no doubt to go after either Zhalia or Dante.
"We better rest here," Lok said as he helped to support Sophie, who looked like she was about to collapse.
"No we can't,"
Soon after the trio began walking casually through the catacombs, seeing no suits because they were already revealed to have fake rings, as they made their way to the exit before Sophie began speaking, "that was some snap decision to give awa our rings, pretty gutsy for someone who stresses over multiple choice tests."
"Hey look Sophie no matter what Dante said he'd never risk giving one of us the real ring."
"Yeah that would be much too dangerous for the likes of," Cherit replied from where he had been flying alongside them.
"Well we're useless as decoys now."
"May as well try and get back to street level."
"Hold on there's only five minutes left," Lok said realizing something that brought a chill down his spine.
"Huh," Sophie looked confused.
"Listen what if Dante or Zhalia is stuck fighting a bunch of goons by themselves right now."
"With 5 minutes left they'd never make it out before the ring broke my seal," Sophie realized.
"We've got to go find them."
"Yes they might need our help," and with that they began bolting hoping to help both Zhalia and Dante.
As they ran down passageway after passageway Lok realized, "we've got 2 minutes left we've got to hurry!"
When they finally arrived they found Zhalia casually leaning against a pillar, and dante smiling, both looking cool as a cucumber.
"Dante! Our 30 minutes is almost up we got to get out of here," Lok said running up to Dante.
"Don't worry you two, the real Ring of Arc was delivered to a Huntik Foundation Safe House 10 minutes ago," shocking not only the Organization, but also Sophie and Lok.
"Huh?"
"That's impossible, no!" Defoe said angrily.
"Actually it was pretty easy after we split up Zhalia's Gareon took the real ring and slipped right through your defenses, you see Gareon has the ability to turn invisible for short periods of time, combined with our diversions that allowed him to escape to the surface, and reach a Huntik Foundation Safe House in plenty of time," Dante said with a grin.
"But that means..." Defoe snarled out.
"You lost before you even knew it."
"Boy that's the Dante Vale touch," Cherit supplied from above.
"Yes we did it," Lok said as both him and Sophie hifived each other.
"If I can't have the ring, I'll have you!" Defoe said while powering up a spell in his left hand.
"Defoe there's another interesting consequence of my strategy I planned just for you." Dante supplied with a smirk.
"Oh and what would that be," Defoe said still angry.
"Your forces are spread thin throughout the catacombs, while mine are right here," as we soon began advancing on the enemy. Causing the suits to run leaving Defoe with just Kreutalks.
"Useless cowards! Next time Dante Vale!" With that Defoe and Kreutalks left with their tails between their legs.
Dante raised his hand to stop Zhalia from attack Defoe, "let him go, we have business to take care of."
Soon after they excited the catacombs and by the time the reached the Foundation Safe House it was already sunset, and after getting situated Dante asked the member there, "I take it you got my message?"
"Yes, I wasn't quite sure what was going on but I prepared the reliquary right away and it does seem to be holding," the member said opening a chest to reveal the ring glowing a toxic green color.
"Fine but can yo tell what it is, and Amulet maybe?" Zhalia asked from where she was holding Gareon like a dog.
"I don't think it's one of the legendary titans if that's what you mean, I'm guessing it's just an ordinary cursed ring."
"With that strong of curse, not even an elite seeker could sense a Titan inside." Dante countered.
"Ok, I'll request our top experts from the Huntik Council and we'll figure it out alright?
"Till then don't let the ring leave here." Dante ordered to the Foundation member.
Suddenly Sophie asked from where she was on one of the couches reading a book, "hey Lok did the ring of Arc show you anything like visions or something?"
"Yeah some were good, and some were bad," Lok said confused on why Sophie was asking.
"Mine were all bad, really bad," as she looked at her hands close to tears
"Oh hey all those visions meant nothing ok, all that seeing the future stuff was just a story," trying to help her overcome this.
"Right it was only a cursed ring," Sophie quickly agreed.
"You know you two are something to see today,"
The two graciously took the praise from the small Titan and with that they borrowed some rooms in the safe house and called it a night.
Authors notes-Hello everyone I really hope that you enjoyed the newest chapter. See you all next time when the next chapter is posted.
Answering reviews:
God of Wind 200: thank you for the review and as for why I needed to figure out a location where Defoe could find a object containing a megataur titan, is because Lok already secured his canon Lindorm that defoe was set to locate in episode 10 The Treasure of the Argonauts.
