"It's carnivorous!"
"So now what? We run, don't run?"
"Run. Definitely RUN!"
Two bespectacled African American men were running away from an angry Toothy cow.
The first one wore dark green Aviator glasses and short curls, while the second one was younger with long dreadlocks and dark blue way far glasses.
How had it come to this?
One minute they were stumbling through a clean, unspoiled green countryside, next thing they know, both Aryeh Sonnenberg and his nephew Eli are chased by what appeared (in their eyes) to be a mutated cow that defied all zoological studies.
Aryeh Sonnenberg, Astrophysicist, had always felt best when he studied the stars. Myths and certain beliefs held no appeal, merely products of primitive minds clinging to superstition in absence of reason.
Or so he had long believed, until a shocking revelation challenged even his rational certainties, opening his eyes to dimensions beyond what science alone could see.
First it involved the story of what happened to his late niece Rivka when she was still young, and what ultimately lead to her marrying Samuel Bennet despite his brother's objection. That was an entirely complex and unusual circumstances, the events of what lead up to it still give him a headache so many years later.
Then Eli brought back something the police refused to acknowledge. An object embedded into the frame woodwork in the ransacked apartment of the missing Bennet family.
A claw. But it was too big to belong to any reptile or bird of prey.
So Aryeh's girlfriend, Emilie Cygneè, took it back to the lab to study it out of genuine interest. The results had been...baffling.
It's been six entire months since his nephew in law, Samuel, and great niblings (Elisheva and Zev) had disappeared.
The research Eli had sought out about the claw remained inconclusive, and the cctv video feed depicting what happened that night had been sent to secret services indefinitely.
Further confused, they went to Innwood to get a closer look at the Bennet's ransacked apartment first by reaching the small park next to the apartment building. Eli found Elisheva's cellphone on the ground amongst the willow tree roots, the screen was shattered.
But what would not be the last confusing thing.
A slow heartbeat sounded as a brilliant sparkle of gold light flickered on the trunk of the old willow tree. It began to spin, forming into a circle that spread across the trunk on the seal, making it glow.
"Uncle!" Eli had ended up croaking out of shock.
Aryeh spun around and nearly dropped his cellphone. They exchanged wide eyed glances as the glowing seal faded to reveal a tunnel.
On the other side were the typical sounds one would hear out in the countryside close to the forest. Bird songs, buzzing insects and the smell of fresh unpolluted air.
Cautiously, Aryeh approached first and touched the edges, the tree was still obviously solid but the...opening wasn't anymore. He behind it the tree, there's no tunnel or projection, nor anything frankly.
Logically, common sense would be to record this and leave, preferably come back with supplies meant for camping or exploring.
However what they saw far surpassed any rational theory, so against their better judgement, they unknowingly walked right into Aerwiar. Both Uncle and nephew found themselves standing a
Behind them, the tunnel flickered and closed much to the two's frustration. After a few minutes of them shouting futilely, they calmed.
They had only one way to go now, and that was forward.
And that was before they'd end up dealing and learning to escape their first encounter with a Toothy cow.
Author's note: And that's just a sample of two relatives finding themselves in over their heads while looking for their missing family members. Hey, this might give me ideas for Arc 4.
Okay then gang, if you got good ideas feel free to send them over, will be doing another poll on my deviantART account on what other oneshot/drabble I should do next.
