Chapter 14
Moon
Moon let out a gasp. She could see many dragons, all a different color. She could see a lime green one next to a maroon one. A few tail lengths away from them was a sky blue one and a bright light pink one. The island they were on was large. Bigger than any she had seen before. In the middle stood the palace, she presumed. It glowed in the sunlight, brightening up the whole island.
Moon looked towards the sea to see more islands, smaller than this one, and in the far distance she could see the continent.
Mist angled down and the others followed. Qibli was close to Moon. She could see he was looking around as well with a more calculative look. Moon watched as Mist angled towards the palace landing quartyard. Moon held her breath as she landed. Her heart sped up as dragons began to swarm them.
Qibli put a wing around her in comfort. She smiled up at him. The dragons had pushed them all together in a tight circle, leaving no room to walk around.
"Who are you?" A bunch growled.
"Intruders!"
"Look at their scales!"
Even with their voices their minds rang out in her head. She held a talon to her head. Suddenly everything was quiet. Even their minds were a whisper. Moon looked up to see the dragons parting away. A large Dark blue dragon was coming through. Two dragons stood behind her, one a bright sickening yellow. The other a light lavender with bright pink splotches.
The dark blue one walked up to Mist. "Finally someone sends you."
Mist bows. "Queen Azule, it is good to see you again."
"Wait a minute." The Queen stepped closer. "Princess Mist?"
"Yes." Mist looked up.
"We heard you were dead." The Queen beckoned for her to follow. "Bring your friends."
"What?" Mist stood up. "Why would you think that?"
"Because your mother told us so. Even had us look for your body. Which now makes sense why we didn't find it." The Queen walked inside.
"Why would my mother think I'm dead?" Mist looked up at the queen.
"Because your Storm reported that you had gone into the sea. They assumed you were lost to it." The Queen talked on as they walked. "It's good you're here. Something has happened."
"What?" Mist asked.
"A week or so ago my children found a Stormwing on Weeping Island. He was injured badly when they found him." The Queen gave a worried look. "He's doing better now but he won't tell us anything. Maybe if you speak to him he will tell us."
"Maybe. Who is it?" Mist looked down the hall.
"His name is Admiral. He said he is a General."
"Yes he is. One of the top ones."
"He's in here." The Queen motioned a wing towards the door.
"You guys stay out here." Mist turned towards them. "I'll be back."
Moon could see Tsunami and Sundew wanting to protest but they stayed silent.
"You two stay out here as well. I'll be back." With that the two went into the room and closed the door behind them.
Moon gave a sigh of relief and looked at the other. They had tired faces and sore expressions. Winter moved his tail causing a shattering sound. Moon looked at him. His eyes were tired but he held himself up as if showing defiance to rest.
A movement of scales caught Moon's eyes. The two strange colored dragons were motioning things.
Who are they? A voice whispered in her head.
Don't you mean what are they? Moon soon realized it was the two dragons. They were somehow communicating.
Yes. One hissed annoyingly. But look at them. They're strange.
I know. Look at that one. Look at the extra spines. The yellow one shot a short glance at Winter.
I find those two to look more like us. They have back spines like us. The lavender one looked towards Tsunami and Turtle.
Where are the others when we need them? The yellow one complained.
Stop groaning, Brimstone. I'm more worried about mother leaving us here with them. The lavender one shot him a look.
Moon stood up and walked over to them. "Hello." she got out.
The lavender one looked startled. "Hi."
"Say more than that." The yellow one elbowed her. "Hi. I'm Brimstone. Welcome to the Shimmerwing Kingdom."
Moon was taken back by his greeting and gave a slight smile.
The lavender one rolled her eyes. "I'm Calypso."
"I'm Moon. These are my friends." Moon pointed with her wing. "Kinkajou, Winter, Qibli, Turtle, Clay, Sunny, Starflight, Tsunami, Glory, Deathbringer, Sundew, Cricket, Blue, Luna, Peril, Sky and Wren."
"Don't mind me but what tribe are you from? I haven't seen anyone on Grairokora like you all before." Brimstone asked.
"We're not from Grairokora." Moon sat down in front of them. "We're from Pyrriah and Pantala."
"Where?" Calypso questioned with a confused look.
Moon took a deep breath. "It's kind of confusing. We only knew of the two continents. We didn't know about Grairokora."
"What?" Brimstone looked astonished. "Two others?"
Moon nodded. "Most of us are from Pyrrhia, but Sundew, Cricket, Blue and Luna are from Pantala."
"I can't believe this." Calypso gasped. "Why are you here?"
"That's hard to explain." Moon said.
"Let me explain." Glory came up to Moon. She bowed slightly towards the Shimmerwings. "I'm Queen Glory of the Rainwings."
Calypso looked taken aback. "Queen? You're too young to be Queen."
"That is a story I'll tell on my own merit." Glory's frills turned a little orange. "We were sent here." Glory looked at Moon. Moon nodded. "By our seer. They had a vision of this continent and a warning for all tribes."
"What kind of warning?" Calypso's face turned serious.
"I'd like to talk to the Queen about that." Glory remained still.
"Our mother will tell us anyway." Brimstone said.
"Your mother?" Moon tilted her head. "You're the prince and princess."
"Yes." Calypso murmured.
"My sister here is on her way to the throne." Brimstone elbowed Calypso.
"Not yet." Calypso snapped at him. "Mother isn't planning on leaving yet."
"You don't have the Queen challenges?" Kinkajou asked from behind.
"We have challenges but most of the time the Queen will pass it on to one of her daughters. I'm the only living heir for the throne." Calypso explained.
"It's like that for most tribes here. Except for Duelwings and Shieldwings." Brimstone said. "They fight for the throne. Not to the death or anything. Just until one backs out."
"I wish our tribes would do that." Sunny sighed.
"What do your tribes do?" Calypso asked.
"Almost all tribes, except the Rainwings, fight to the death." Calypso had a horrified face. Sunny continued. "The Queen of the tribe and the challenger will go head on in a battle to the death."
"Queen Snowfall is trying to do it the same as Rainwings." Winter said. "Or at least a little. It's too early for her to tell how it's going."
"How can someone do that to their mother or daughter? Brimstone put a wing over his sister.
"It's been that way since the time of the scorching." Moon said sadly.
"Wait." Calypso looked up. "Did you say the scorching?"
"Yes." Moon nodded.
"Follow me." Calypso got up.
"What about the Queen and Mist?" Sunny said.
"Our mother knows where we are. Or at least most of the time." Brimstone followed his sister.
Moon looked back to the others. "Let's follow them!" Kinkajou jumped up after them.
"Wait. Kinkajou!" Moon went after her. She could hear talons behind her. She took a quick glance to see the others behind her. Moon followed Kinkajou to two large wooden doors. They loomed over everything else. One of them was cracked open. Moon glanced inside to see Calypso and Brimstone inside.
"Come in." Calypso called from inside.
Moon opened the doors revealing the biggest library she had ever seen. Books and scroll led up the wide ceiling above. Two staircases led up to the separate levels. She let out a slight gasp as she looked around. She saw Cricket take a step closer on the verge of tears.
"Here it is." Calypso grabbed an old scroll off a shelf. She laid it flat on a table for them to see. "It mentions the Scorching. Right here. 'The Scorching: Long long ago there were dragons and humans. They had never coexisted well. The humans were greedy in all things. Money, power. They wanted to rule the two continents, leaving Grairokora to its own troubles during the Crystal Massacre."
"I remember learning about that." Brimstone's eyes saddened. "Hundreds of Crystalwings were hunted down and killed for their crystal spines."
"Who would do that?" Moon whispered, looking at the picture.
"King Aetherium. He was the Silverwing who started it all. His wife had died a few years before this happened. Some say he went insane. He started killing the Crystalwings, a couple years after they were almost extinct." Calypso looked saddened as well.
"Then Queen Sapphire of the Crystalwings used her animus magic to stop him. It worked but she died as well." Brimstone traced a claw over the paper.
"That's sad." Kinkajou said.
Calypso rolled up the scroll and put it back on its shelf. Moon looked around the library, amazed at how big it was.
Qibli came up to her, gazing as well. "You know this is bigger than Thorns library."
"Isn't that the biggest library in Pyyriah?" Winter asked.
"Yes." Qibli nodded looking back at him.
A/N I may have gone a little overboard with this chapter. I probably won't do it again.
