Chapter 15
Calypso
Calypso led them back to the healing quarters to see her mother and Princess Mist talking outside in hushed tones.
Queen Azule looked over at their entrance. "I was wondering when you'd be back."
"Just had to check something in the library." Calypso said calmly. She could tell her mother was worried.
"We have to send out a message." Her mother said.
"What's going on?" Brimstone asked.
"We're summoning the Queen Council." Azule looked at Mist.
"What about King Alistar?" Calypso asked. "If we don't invite him, his seers will see what we're doing."
"He cannot come. Or know about them." She jerked her head towards the others behind Calypso. "If he knew about them." Her mother breathed. "It wouldn't be good. They must stay here. Under our protection. The other Queens will agree to help when they learn what he's done." Queen Azule began to walk off.
"Mother!" Calypso called after her. "What's happening?"
"I will tell you later." Azule said then left with Mist.
Brimstone caught her attention. What do we do? He signed.
Keep an eye on them I guess. She signed back.
She turned around to face them. "So. Anything you wanna see?"
"What were those pools of water at one of the beaches?" Turtle asked.
"We call them fish farms. We use them to keep fish. There are a few in the palace court yard that we usually stock up for a party." Calypso explained.
"Let's go find the others and introduce them!" Brimstone chimed up.
"That sounds like an ok plan." Calypso turned around towards the exit. "That way we can give them the tour as well."
Calypso went along as Brimstone talked about the palace. "You'll probably be given a few connected rooms to sleep in for a few nights. Down there are the kitchens. We have a few Whitewing chefs in there. Down this way is a ballroom."
"And that way is to the throne. Then there's upstairs and the levels below." Calypso rolled her eyes.
They exited through one of the main entrances. Calypso quintet as sunlight shined through the sky. It was a rather busy day, dragons were bussying around. One dragon caught her eye. The only black Shimmerwing she knew was walking past with a fish in his talons.
"Crescent!" she called him.
He looked over and his eyes lit up at the sight of them. He pushed his way through the crowd towards them. "Where have you two been? We haven't seen you all day." he hugged them both.
"Where are the others?" Calypso asked him.
"Stargazer island. They said to meet them there with food." He held up the fish.
"Can these guys come with me?" Calypso moved over to the side, showing Crescent the other continent dragons.
His mouth dropped and his talon froze, the fish almost slipping out of his claws.
"Oh stop being like that." Calypso shut his mouth.
"Wha? What-Who?" He stammered.
"I'll tell you later. For now let's head to Stargazer." Calypso pushed him forward.
He stumbled forward at a quick pace. Calypso avoided as many dragons as she could, as to not tell them who these strangers were. For the most part dragons were too busy to even pay attention. It was easy to avoid the few dragons that were looking around. Also it helped that her tribe was every color. The others could be mistaken for a Shimmerwing at first glance. She just hoped they would only glance once.
With Crescent and Calypso at the front they made their way to the southern beach. It was never busy seeing as it was facing out towards more islands. One specifically. Weeping Island. Nobody went there. Except Calypso and her friends. She looked around then took off.
"Follow me." She called to the others. She flew fast over the water, watching as dolphins jumped around her. She angled herself a little to the left and continued on. Soon they would reach Weeping Island. Or as she and her friends called it; Stargazer.
Water seeped into its shores as the eerily quiet island was asleep. A few birds were singing their songs. During the day it was a peaceful place. But at night everything went still, holding secrets within. She never had chills getting near the island. Neither did her friends. They always saw it as their secret hide out away from everyone else.
She landed, blowing sand in all directions. She looked around. It felt weird to be back here again. The last time she had been here was the night she found the injured Stormwing.
All of a sudden a coconut came flying out of nowhere into the sea. "Current, you were supposed to catch that!" A voice yelled.
A green dragon burst through the trees. "I got it!" he yelled back. He dove into the water with a silent splash and went to retrieve the coconut. As he came out of the water Calypso called to him.
"Current!"
He looked over and blinked. He dropped the coconut. "Uh. You know there's dragons behind you, right?"
She rolled her eyes. "Yes I know. Where are Cobalt and Hibiscus?"
Current picked up the coconut. "Over there." he walked towards the tree.
"Come on." She followed Current through the trees. Through the first few trees there was a large clearing big enough for 100 dragons. Weeping Island was the second biggest island in the chain. It made sense for it to have a large clearing. It just didn't make sense how they had never found it before.
"How did you guys find this?" She asked as she looked around.
"I don't know. It was a few days ago and we were hanging on the beach. We decided to see if any more trees had fallen down again and we found it here, untouched." He rolled the coconut.
"But how?" She asked. "We've been all over the island. We've never found a clearing."
"I don't know." He shrugged his shoulders. "It's a nice place to hang out though."
Calypso walked through to see Hibiscus and Cobalt sitting by a stump. They were chatting quietly.
"You guys can look around. Stay in the clearing though." She said to the others. Her, Crescent, Brimstone and Current made their way to Hibiscus and Cobalt.
Hibiscus turned her head and shot up. "Finally!"
Cobalt rolled his eyes. "We've been waiting for you two to find us."
"It's been days." Hibiscus fake whined. She slumped her wings around Calypso in a hug.
"Yeah yeah." Calypso rolled her eyes returning the hug.
Hibiscus let out a gasp. She shoved Calypso in front of her face. "Who are they?"
Calypso looked over to the Pyrrhia and Pantala dragons. She sighed. "Hibiscus. Current. Cobalt. Meet Moon, Kinkajou, Winter, Qibli, Turtle, Clay, Sunny, Starflight, Tsunami, Glory, Deathbringer, Sundew, Cricket, Blue, Luna, Peril, Sky and Wren."
Hibiscus went up to them. "Wow."
"What tribe are they from?" Cobalt asked, still by the tree stump.
"I'm not sure about that. But they are from different continents." Calypso said.
Current looked up at them. "Different continents?"
"Yes." Calypso nodded.
"Welcome, welcome." Hibiscus said cheerfully.
What does the Queen Think of them? Crescent signed.
Something was wrong, Calypso signed. She's calling the Queen Council. Without King Alistar.
Without him? Crescent had a worried face. It won't turn out well. You know that, right?
Yes I know. Calypso sighed. I can't change her mind. She said we have to keep an eye on them.
If Alistar meets them it'll be a bloodbath. Crescent moved closer to her. We have to keep them away from the palace.
Why? She asked.
Because we can't take the risk of him coming to the council. We can keep them here. No one comes here anymore. He signed back.
Calypso nodded. "Brimstone. We need to talk with you."
Brimstone walked over. "What's wrong?"
They need to stay here. Calypso signed to her brother.
You think so? He asked, looking back at the group.
Yes. Crescent said for her.
Do you want me to tell mother? Brimstone asked.
Calypso shook her head. She'll know when we don't come back.
All we can do is hope Alistar doesn't come. Brimstone signed with a solemn face.
