Kutol: Release in draconic

Chapter 21

Crescent

The dark sky was above him as he flew with the others. A deafening thunderous crack came from dark clouds on the horizon. He looked ahead of them.

"Are we going to beat the storm?" he called to the others.

"I don't know." Goliath called back. "We should try. Flying through a thunderstorm does not sound like a good idea, but if we need to we can."

Another loud crack came from in front of them. The storm clouds were growing closer and closer by the second. Soon they were submerged in the dark clouds covered in the cold rain. Crescent struggled to fly through the torrent. His wings felt heavy and soaked.

"We should land." Qibli yelled. Crescent could barely hear him over the wind.

"We're over the farthest island in their archipelago." Goliath hovered for a second. "We can wait here till the storm is over."

Crescent dived down, happy to be free of the rain. The others went after him. He landed on the wet beach, crawling with small sand crabs. He shivered as the others landed.

"We can take some shelter in the trees." Goliath pointed to the forest.

Crescent walked with them to the trees. He was relieved when he got some shelter from the rain.

"Brr." Sunny shivered.

"Anything from Calypso yet?" Crescent asked Turtle.

The green dragon pulled out the grey slate. "Nothing yet."

Crescent gave a slight nod and looked back in the direction they came from. He had never gone this long without talking with her. He felt a little uneasy that he signed up for this. Being with strange dragons from unknown tribes. Not to mention the bounty hunter who was acting as a guide. He wasn't sure how much he trusted Goliath. It wasn't even her real name.

When he turned around to look at the others his eyes shifted over them. All the colors of scales made him feel sort of at home. He was the only Shimmerwing with black scales. His father has deep indigo scales. Crescent never met his mother. She died while he was still an egg. All he knows is what his father has told him.

She had beautiful pearl scales and her eyes were the color of a sunset. He could always imagine her in his head. His father had told him that she was from a more noble family, while his fathers was from one of less fortune. His father came from a long line of kelp collectors. His family would go out and collect the best looking kelp to wrap food in and hold eggs.

Crescent's father had told him that his mother was from a family that would go out to the deep sea and hunt for exotic fish. Crescent could think of doing that. Maybe he'd even find a new species.

He dropped his head a little. He'd never do what his mother did. Her parents, his grandparents, despise him and his father. They say it's their fault she died. Crescent never knew how she had died. His father never told him that much. On nights his father would get drunk enough he'd tell of how she'd sing to him when he was an egg.

Crescent laid his body down on the damp ground. He watched as the others grouped up together for warmth. He gave a long, deep breath and laid his head on his front talons. His eyelids grew heavy as he let out a yawn. He closed his eyes, content with the steady rhythm of the rain droplets.

"Crescent wake up." A quiet voice pulled him out of his slumber. He opened his eyes to see Sunny crouched in front of him.

"What?" He groaned.

"Shh." Nightshade shushed him.

Crescent stood up slowly, his ears reaching for any noise. Nightshade's tail was swishing quietly, as he stalked closer to the woods.

Suddenly a loud roar came through the trees and a large silver dragon came out of the brush. He was wearing shining silver armor that bore the Silverwing crest. In his talons was a long talon like spear, ready to slice scales.

Crescent scurried out of the way as this Silverwing crashed through the group, snapping at them all.

"Everyone get back." Goliath called to them. Crescent could see her scour through her bag and pull out a lime green crystal. She threw it at the Silverwing. The Silverwing snarled and began to make its way towards her. It took a step then another. Again it tried to take a step, but something had rooted it to the ground. It was climbing up his legs and around his body.

He started panicking. "No. No. Help me!" he said before the strange solid came over his face.

Crescent watched in horror as the dragon was now covered in a crystal like substance, still as a statue.

Asha took a step forward towards the crystal encased Silverwing. "Is… Is he dead?"

Goliath shook her head. "No. It just freezes him momentarily."

"What do we do?" Crescent asked.

"We can't leave him like this." Asha touched the crystal.

"Why not?" Sundew snapped. "He just tried to attack us."

"He's under Alistar's command. It's not like he has a choice in this." Nightshade shook his head. "We don't know if he's loyal to us or him. Or if he's being forced to do this."

"Nightshades right." Goliath appeared. "But we can't leave him here. Others would find him before we get to the continent."

"We have to release him." Asha took her talon off. "He can't stay like this."

"We'll take him with us to the Crystalwings. They have a prison we can put him in for the time being." Goliath said.

"How do we get him out of this stuff?" Crescent knocked on the crystal substance.

"You leave that to me. But surround him so he doesn't try to escape." Goliath walked in front of the Silverwing.

Crescent came up to the side of the Silverwing while Qibli and Clay were on the other side.

Goliath put a talon on the Crystal substance. "Kutol." she said. The crystal began to shrink down away from the Silverwings scales. In Goliath's talon was the lime green crystal she had thrown at him.

The Silverwing let out a sharp breath, and faltered to the ground.

"Let's go." Goliath pulled him up. "We should get there before sunset."

The Silverwing shivered and got up, his breath was fast and uneasy. Crescent walked next to him, making sure he tried not to escape. Crescent was terrified himself. What Goliath had done. She could freeze a dragon faster than a winter storm could. What was she truly capable of?
