Chapter 23

Moon

Moon walked around the strange clearing. The ground was smooth with four pillars coming up out of the ground in each direction. She watched as Goliath tapped the ground every few feet with a talon.

"What are you even looking for?" Sundew asked her.

"An entrance." She replied.

"Wait. An entrance. I thought we were going to the Crystalwings." Moon said, confused.

"We are." Goliath tapped the ground again. She looked up. "Their kingdom is underground."

"What?" Cricket gasped.

"They moved underground a few thousand years ago after the Crystal massacre." Goliath walked over to them. "It's been a while since I've been here so I don't quite remember where the entrances are. They are also usually open. They might have closed them due to the Silverwings."

"We can help!" Kinkajou bounded up.

"That would be great." Goliath smiled. "There's four entrances. One to each pillar. I'll take the southern one. You guys can choose which one you want. If you find something, holler."

Goliath walked away towards the farthest pillar. Sundew scoffed and walked away with Cricket, Luna and Blue in tow. Moon watched as Sunny, Clay, Peril, Tsunami, Starflight and Glory walked over to the western pillar.

"So. I guess we take the northern part?" Qibli came up to Moon, watching the others go.

"I guess." Moon shrugged her shoulders. She walked over to the northern pillar. From there it was just as flat as the ground around them was. She saw no signs of anything like a door.

She ran her talon through the soft grass feeling for anything.

"How are we supposed to find something that's not here?" Wren got off sky.

"I don't know." Moon shook her head.

"Do you hear anything, Moon?" Winter asked her.

Moon opened up her mind to listen. Nothing happened at first. It was almost as quiet as when she held the skyfire. Only the little buzz from Wren was there. Something pulled at her suddenly. And before she knew it, voices erupted in her head. All of them were panicked and scared.

She held her head as the pain crashed through. She closed her mind away from the thoughts. She breathed heavily as though she was just struck by lightning. She opened her eyes. "Nothing good."

"What do you mean? Did you hear them?" Qibli helped her up.

"Yes." She nodded. "But they're all scared. All the thoughts were scared. All I could hear was the panic and fear."

"Could you hear any calm thoughts?" Kinkajou asked.

"I don't know." Moon shook her head. "I can try again. Block out some of the thoughts at least."

"Be careful." Qibli said.

Moon nodded. She opened her mind again and braced for the thunderous thoughts. They came, just as powerful as before. She blocked off the most powerful ones, moving through them all. As she was about to stop she heard a quiet voice, not too far away. They were calm and peaceful. She singled out the thoughts and followed it the best she could.

Soon she was a good 50 feet from the northern pillar. "Here. I can hear it right here." she pointed.

She went up to it. Just as Goliath had done she tapped it three times. It sounded as though she had tapped on wooden planks.

"We found it!" she said, surprised.

Kinkajou bounded away. "We found it! We found it!" she yelled to the others.

Goliath came walking over. "Are you sure?"

Moon tapped three times again. "It's wood."

"Nicely done." Goliath said. She went to the far side of the wooden door. She stuck her claws in the ground and lifted the wood up. Moon looked down the whole to see blackness. At least before her eyes could adjust to the darkness.

Goliath slid down the hole. "Come on. Make sure to close it after you all get in."

Moon watched as they got the Silverwing down into the hole. She slid down after them and watched as Qibli closed the hatch. It was darker than she expected. Glowing crystals lined the walls and floors. It was a small room for all of them to fit in, with weapons and armor on the walls.

"If I remember correctly, Queen Topaz is this way." Goliath pointed left.

Suddenly two sparkling dragons came out of nowhere with spears in their talons. Moon jumped back as to not get speared by one of them.

Goliath stayed where she was. "Prince Calcite. Is this really necessary?"

The red dragon faltered. "Goliath?" he tilted his head.

"You know this dragon?" the purple dragon growled.

"Yes. We met when I was traveling." He pulled the purple dragon's spear down. "It's fine Amethyst."

The purple dragon, Amethyst, reluctantly put her spear down but stared at them.

"We must speak with your mother. It is urgent." Goliath gestured to the Silverwings. Calcite saw the one they had captured and growled. Then he saw Asha and he gasped.

He nodded. "Follow me."

Calcite and Amethyst walked to the left of them down a long hall. Moon struggled to see a little bit because of the low light down in the dark caves. Turtle and Tsunami had lit up the ends on their tails, snouts and some on their wings for the rest to see.

The hall ended with two large wooden doors in front of them. Two large dragons stood at the doors with spears in their talons.

"You have to let us through, Tigers eye. I need to speak with my mother." Calcite growled at one of them.

"You can but leave this lot out here." The large dragon growled back.

"No, they need to speak with her as well." Calcite pushed forward.

"Your mother is busy at the moment." the other dragon said. He was a dark color, almost a smoky black.

Goliath stepped forward. "Move aside or I will turn you both into the crystals you've been named after."

The two guards looked at each other and moved aside, letting them through. The two doors opened to reveal a large room filled with nothing but a few tables, scroll racks and a single throne in the back of the room.

"Not now, I'm busy." A large dragon at one of the tables said.

"Your majesty," another dragon, who was looking at them, said.

"What Agate?" she turned around. Her eyes went wide. "Calcite. Who are these dragons?"

"I am Goliath," Goliath bowed. "And these are my friends."

Moon bowed as well, and the others followed in suit. Moon watched as the Queen took a few steps forward cautiously.

"Why have you come here?" she demanded calmly.

"We have come seeking help." Asha walked forward. She bowed deeply to the Queen. "I am Princess Asha of the Silverwings. My mother was Queen Lilith and my Father was King Blade."

The Queen looked at her with surprise. "Why have you come to me? There are other tribes to go to. Even a resistance against Alistar."

"Because we also have him." Goliath moved the captured Silverwing forward.

The Queen narrowed her eyes and the Silverwing cowered. "Where did you find him?"

"The edge of the archipelago." Goliath said calmly.

"Obsidian." she called.

The smoky black dragon from outside came in. "Yes, Your majesty?"

"Put him in with the others." she pointed to the Silverwing.

He bowed and left with the Silverwing. It was quiet for a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity. The Queen stood up tall. "You can stay here as long as you need."

"Thank you, your majesty." Goliath bowed.

"Calcite. Take them to the palace sleeping quarters." She said to her son. "We haven't had visitors in some time so it might be out of sorts."

"That is no problem. Thank you." Goliath thanks her one last time before following Calcite out.

Moon and the others followed quietly. As they moved through the underground palace she could see paintings of crystals and other stones hanging on the walls. It was quiet where they were. It seemed as if no one lived here. As if it was a barren shell of what it used to be.

Calcite stopped in front of a door. "You can all stay in this chamber. It might be a little smaller but it should be big enough for you all." He pushed it open and revealed a large room big enough for them. It was so big it reminded her of the Jade Mountain Academy entrance only slightly smaller.

"Thank you Prince Calcite." Goliath stood by him as the others went into the room. Moon took a few steps into the room behind Qibli. Kinkajou was ahead of them already checking out the room.

"May I ask, who are you?" Calcite looked at them.

"They are travelers." Goliath said for them. "Looking for something. If they wish to tell you where they are from they can."

"Travelers?" Amethyst asked.

Moon walked forward. "I am Moon, and these are my friends. We have traveled a great distance to find your continent."

"So you're not from here." Calcite said.

"No we are not. We are from Pyrrhia." Moon gestured to everyone but Sundew, Cricket, Blue and Luna. "And they are from Pantala." she pointed to them.

"Woah." Calcite said. "Other continents."

"We have a… Seer who saw your continent. They sent us here." Glory walked forward.

"A seer?" Amethyst looked at Calcite. "A silverwing."

"No. One of our tribes has the power. We didn't know about any of this." Moon gestured to the room around her.

"What other powers do you have on your continent?" Amethyst asked, her tail swished on the ground.

"Well." Moon thought. "That's a little. Complicated."

"How so?" Calcite asked.

Moon explained everything she could about Pyrrhia and Pantala with some help from the others.

They talked with Calcite and Amethyst for a few more hours, telling stories and learning more about the Crystalwings. All in all it was nice to just sit and talk.

After Calcite and Amethyst left they had all decided to head to sleep, as it was late.

Moon was curled up next to Qibli as she woke up from a quiet noise. She opened her eyes to see Goliath creep out of their room. She laid there as Goliath silently closed the door. She jumped up and poked at Qibli.

"Wake up." she whispered to him. She poked him harder.

"Ow." He grumbled as he opened his eyes. "That hurt."

"Shh." Moon put a claw up.

"What's wrong?" he rubbed his eyes.

"Goliath just left." Moon pointed to where Golaith had settled down for bed.

Qibli looked over. "Maybe she's hungry." he laid his head back down.

"I think we should follow her." Moon looked at the door. "She's been acting strange since we got here."

Qibli yawned. "Fine." He got up slowly. Moon paced by the door waiting for him.

Moon opened the door silently. She and Qibli slipped through and followed the one hall Goliath had to take.

"How are we even going to find her?" Qibli whispered.

She gave him a goofy look.

"Oh right. Mind Reader." he laughed. "It's too late for this."

Moon opened her mind and heard subtle thoughts of sleeping dragons. A few were having nightmares but most were ok. Moon searched for Goliath's mind. She soon found her thoughts and followed her as close as they could get.

They followed her down through the Crystalwing system of tunnels that spun and spun down. The farther they went the less she could hear. After a while the only thoughts she could hear were Goliath's.

Moon didn't think they were even in the Crystalwing tunnels anymore. The tunnels they were in were small. So small Moon had to stay in front of Qibli. She could hear Goliath's thoughts but another dragon was down here as well. His thoughts were slow and bored. It reminded her of Stonemover. When she met him the first time his thoughts were slow and tired but filled with pain.

Moon reached the end of the twirling tunnel to a large room filled with fire light. Moon could see Goliath's figure in the light and also another dragon. He was huge. He towered over Goliath.

As soon as Moon saw the huge dragon she froze, one thought stuck in her head. Darkstalker.
