Chapter 29: Good night.
10.30 pm
After the movie was over Hilda turned off the TV.
"It's time to go to bed! Hard workouts await you from tomorrow." She announced to her guests.
Turning in their direction, she noticed that El looked tense, while Kay was calm and smiling.
"Is something wrong, Grandes?" She asked.
El looked up from the table.
"Uhm…"
She paused.
"Starting tomorrow, are Kay and I going to live in two different houses?" She asked.
"Of course, I explained it before. She with Göring and you with me."
"Couldn't we stay together? She and I are…"
She broke off, not knowing how to say it. She noticed both Kay and Hilda staring at her.
"…Very close."
Hilda was silent for a few seconds, then smiled.
"I understand…Of course, it would be a shame to separate a… Such a close-knit couple." She stated.
Kay became suddenly suspicious. Had Hilda understood the true nature of her and El's relationship? Or did she mean she couple of friends?
"So what?"
"And then you can come and visit her whenever you want, and vice versa she can visit you anytime."
"But… But it's not like living under the same roof!"
"Always better than nothing. Also, I'll make sure they put you in the same class."
El was initially silent, turning to Kay for silent advice. The blonde, who was staring straight into her eyes, nodded her head, as if to say of her: accepts her offer.
"Agree." She said.
A wide smile formed on Hilda's face.
"Exzellent…Tonight you will sleep with me, and Kay will go to the guest room."
Her two guests merely nodded, without uttering a word.
Once at their destination El and Hilda changed their clothes, taking off their uniforms and putting on pajamas (white for El, red for Hilda). Then they went to bed.
"Good night." The dark-haired girl said.
The German blonde smiled and, approaching El's right ear, whispered:
"Gute Nacht, kleine Hure."
Kleine… Hure? What does it mean?
The former commander of the Blue Division wondered, however, preferring not to ask questions. After a few minutes she fell asleep.
