"I AM SURROUNDED BY FAILURES!" Right as Mino opened the door to Mr. Sigma's office she immediately closed it upon the sight of a massive collection of papers coming right for her. As the papers scattered upon contact with the door it started to open again with Mino nonchalantly adjusting her glasses looking to a clearly upset gentleman who buried his face into his hands as the Bone Masked Guardian currently next to him signaled Mino it was safe to come in. Walking in Mino could here the mumbling of a man trying to regain his composure after such a stressful report of news.
"I take it Squad Echo has reported an update on the Gaven situation?" Mino asked taking the seat across Sigma as the man looked up from his hands, sighing as he leaned away resting on his chair roughly rubbing his chin.
"Not only did Gaven escape them, but he also has an apparent third acquaintance... a non-registered Necronite. Add unto the fact three of their members were knocked out during the mission AGAIN, MIND YOU, and you can say our hunting division is the glory of the Sigma Corporation... idiots lost them in a Deadzone." Sigma mumbled handing Mino a picture of the Necronite taken from the recording of Inglind the tanned megaman who had been personally terrified unconscious by said person. Mino raised a hand to her lips as she looked over the girl. Not recognizing her at all she laid the picture on the desk.
"So a chop shop Necronite. Fool's haven't learned from our mistakes on that project," Mino grumbled before handing Sigma the clipboard she had walked in with. "I think I might be able to brighten your day regardless." Sigma gave Mino a curious glance as he took the clipboard as he started to read he continued.
"I doubt whatever this is about...," Before he could even finish is sentence his mouth froze with his eyes going wide as he straightened up his chair furiously reading the papers connected on the clipboard like each word had entombed his very world. "You found a way to calm the fusion with the synthetic brain," Sigma looked away from the data with a smile as wide as his face. "And you can get them functioning without a problem?"
"Minus the annoyance of having to have a personality simulated. I can assure you there are no problems, or downsides to Project Origin's new neural brains." Mino responded with lightly snatching back the clipboard.
"And when can I expect them running?"
"Unfortunately it will take some time to actually create even a single unit. Right now the best we can do is get six started, and it will take quite awhile before they are ready. At best they should be ready within five months at worst possibly a year." While the timeframe given was definitely long it didn't change the happiness this had brought to Sigma. They were finally a step closer after being stagnant for so long upon loosing a certain key member in the North HQ division. The troubles of Gaven seemed to just disappear with this brought to life news.
"No worries, I am a patient man when it comes to this project."
"That's good to hear, sir. If you'll excuse me that's all I had to report," she asked receiving a nod from the yellow eyed man as he watched the purpled hair woman get up, and leave. Once she was gone he stood up, and headed over to the door collecting the scattered paperwork he had originally thrown. "Also tell Gerald to stop annoying me on his off time, or you will be looking for a new "Commander"." With that announcement Sigma hung his head down.
"How have I not lost my mind yet with all these people around me," He mumbled before noticing a picture of Gaven. Picking it up he thought to how all this chaos started. "If Eiasai had just kept had just kept her mouth shut, and her greed in check I would have only lost one elite soldier rather than two." He mumbled before looking towards the Bone Masked Guardian, his smile completely gone at this point for some reason. "Tell Simon I want Gaven, and his new allies brought in alive. I want to know what the hell is going on, and I know Gaven won't speak if he's the only one being threatened. At this point I'll let go of this failure, but let him know my patience is thinning," Bowing to Sigma the red cloak figure left the room leaving Sigma to himself. "We need to get back what Eiasai stole... and soon."
"Yo man, you in there?" Kaz yelled as he banged against the rather large cylindrical metal tube in the room filled with computer monitors all across the walls which was pretty impressive even if the room was only normal size. On each monitor was a different section of the North HQ's massive facility. Finding the circular camera attached to the cylindrical tube Kaz lifted a bag of junk food wagging it in front of the camera. About a good second later steam started to spew out of the bottom as the started to lift up a good foot before splitting in half revealing a megaman in normal soul mode attached with multiple wires around the cranium. Without a helmet a megaman cranium could be best described as a lightbulb with black streaks. Looking directly at Kaz was a male about twenty six years old with a lanky like body. Scruffy brown hair reaching past his ears with light stubbles across his chin gave the impression of poor hygiene.
"Do you realize how hard it is to rewrite video footage before it can be locked into the master hive? I swear if their isn't a mountain dew in that bag I am going to erase all your internet profiles!" The man threatened, pointing a finger at Kaz as he remained seated to the metallic chair that looked more like an electric chair with padding.
"Good thing I know you then bro," Kaz chuckle, taking out a Mountain Dew Code Red and tossing it to the chair bound Orion whose brown eyes gleamed in excitement.
"Dude, this is the fourth time you have visited me in the last three days. I can only dig through high security files so fast man. No matter how much Haley threatens, I can't work miracles of a god." He grumbled as he opened the can before taking a sip. Kaz laughed as he sat down leaning against the ominous chair.
"I know man, but you know how she is. Heh, she expects the best from her allies, and threatens them to reach their full potential. She's really not that bad. I mean look at me and Mark, not many people gave us as big a chance to prove ourselves as she did." Kaz smiled looking up at Orion who shook his head.
"I don't know dude that chick is on a crazy war path just for one guy."
"If you lost what she did no matter how important the other person was in your life, wouldn't you be the same?" Kaz asked, his usual aloof personality replaced with a somber stare at the ground causing Orion to pause, and think as he twiddled his fingers all the while syphoning through dozens upon dozens amounts of data. As he had said finding what Kaz had requested was hidden upon unmeasurably powerful safe guards, and firewalls. Trying to hack said defense through only a surveillance connection didn't make it much easier especially when you had to erase any proof you had done it. Orion was, however, a high classed Operator. So if anyone had a good chance it would be him.
"I am kind of curious though. Haley only wanted data from Squad Echo's reports which makes sense seeing how she wants to pinpoint Esitmer's location. So why am I also digging around for the original footage of Esitmer's betrayal?" Orion asked with a intrigued look.
"Me, and Mark were talking about how it was strange that no one else had seen all of this stuff go down. So I guess its really just Marks curiosity infecting me." Kaz chuckled, thinking about how originally he had no interest, but now a seed of doubt had been planted. Was their a possibility what Haley believed might have not been true... If it was then Kaz wanted to know while there was still time. Time to stop Haley from drowning in more sorrow, and if it was true? Well then Gaven would meet his end at their hands as Haley desired, even if the consequences cost his life.
"I see," Orion lightly responded, noticing Kaz's surprisingly concentrated face. "That case has been highly classified since the beginning. I think they had the "Death Queen" herself write the blocks I am currently seeing. Give me another day to see if I can get in, but while I am already at it I am going to send Simon's report to Haley." Orion added as Kaz nodded in understanding as he got up.
"Alright man, I'll leave it all to you. I am pretty sure I couldn't even begin to understand all this mumbo jumbo anyways," Kaz waved his hands about as he headed to the door. "Just don't get caught, man. Don't want to get in trouble especially with that freaky chick in charge." With that Kaz exited the room saluting Orion as he closed the door. About two steps out the door leaving Kaz's phone started to vibrate. "Oh Haley what's up? I think I'll pass after that whooping you gave me last time hehehehe... huh? Ya, I always got your back boss you know that. You alright? Okay, I'll see you guys later." Once Haley hung up Kaz gave his phone a vexing look over. "Huh... too tired to think about it right now." He mumbled giving out a small yawn as he headed for the barracks.
"For the past year I was positive he was running wild to avoid the Corporation, but now, I don't know what the hell is going on in that guys mind." Mark said with a tired look in his eyes as he continued to view the map he had set up on the table in the hotel room Haley had paid for. The map showed the path Gaven had taken for the past year even including the starting point from his run from East HQ. As Mark had said the pinpoints of places they could confirm the had appeared showed a chaotic path spiraling around the Northeastern section of Pangaea. Yet once they added in the warehouse point along with Squad Echo's two reports they had just received from Orion, and the line started to drastically straighten up almost as if Gaven was heading for something in the western region. Sitting down on the bed Haley continued to stare at the map as Mark paced about the room trying to figure it out.
"Something changed between the school, and warehouse incidents."
"You think it was that kid? Like Gaven's trying to keep him in mind now?"
"...No, I think that was just by pure chance. Gaven's finally realized he can't fight alone most likely, why else would he hire a Necronite out of nowhere. What because they just happen to randomly run into her by chance, and magically she decided to help them? No Gaven must have hired her, and worked out the train as a meeting point." Haley estimated as she leaned forward with legs cross. Her blonde locks waved forward as she squinted her eyes looking past the last point of Gaven's path. What was he prioritizing in this change of pace. It couldn't have anything to with his two new assets even if it was surprising he had recruited people that didn't add up enough reason for the sudden change of pace. Besides he was about to hit a large body of water that would drastically slow him down leaving him wide open to attack. Was he going to cross it? Why? What would be so worth the damn risk? All there was past that point was a few small cities a major power plant, and... Haley's eyes lightly opened as she placed her hands on the map.
"Something coming to mind?"
"Do you remember the "Call To Arms Armor" project incident?" Haley asked.
"You mean the explosion that happened at the Indigo Fore...," Mark paused as the words seemed to halt in his mouth he looked at the map, and as clear as day the Indigo Forest was directly ahead of Gaven's current path. "Why there? There is no tactical advantage besides maybe hiding."
"Unless there is something there that only you know about." Haley mumbled going through her memories of the incident. Yet no matter how hard she thought nothing came to mind on why he would head there. That incident had left no fruit to bear, and even if it had the Corporation would have already snatched it up. "Regardless that seems to be where he's heading, which means that's where I will go."
"You mean "we". You know me, and Kaz are not going to let you do this on your own. We have been with you this far, and we have no reason to stop." Kaz corrected Haley, who fixed her hair into a ponytail as she unknowingly let a soft grin creak out of her usually hostile appearance.
"You've been with me even further than that, and you have both followed me loyally without question. A trait any squad leader would be proud to see..., and as a friend I thank you both deeply." Haley spoke with eye's closed as she finished her hair letting it drop lifelessly to her backside as she stared at the ground. Even before she had join the Corporation they had been by her side as confused children introduced to this strange world of Megaman.
"Heh you should wait till Kaz is back to say these things, don't you think?" Mark smiled as he opened the window gentle to peer down at the city, wondering what their oddball friend was up to with Orion knowing full well the danger they both would be in if someone happened to catch Orion's digital fingerprints.
"Its because of that I can't let you two delve any further into my madness." Mark's eyes dilated wide as he felt his body take a step back from the window causing the curtain to close. Slowly his hand reached to his right backside, and yanked out a dart. He looked at it as his vision started to blur, and with hesitant steps he turned around seeing Haley pointing the dart gun she had just shot the round from right at him. "I wish things would have been different. If Eiasai was still alive I would have been probably a better leader. I would even still have had my "brother" at my side." It seemed as Haley got up to take ahold of Mark's arms that tears would start falling. Yet as she guided him to the bed no such tears even formed. Letting him fall onto the bed Haley could feel his right hand grip down trying to stop her from leaving. To stop her from doing what even in his slowly slumbering mind he knew she was about to do now that she was positive where Gaven would go. She rested her free hand on his, gripping it gentle as she took a deep breath, and proceeded to remove it letting it drop to Mark's side. Grabbing her things along with the map she headed for the exit stopping only momentarily.
"Haley...don't...do...this...alone!" Mark fought to get the words out as he weakly reached out for her.
"I wont risk either of your lives anymore. Stay safe." She responded before heading out the door. As she headed down the stairs she pulled her phone out dialing Kaz's number. As the phone rang she watched the traffic ahead of her it would take about a good twenty minutes to get to her destination. "Kaz?"
"Oh Haley what's up?"
"Just checking that nothing has gone wrong, and wondering if you wanted to meet up at the gym?"
"I think I'll pass after that whooping you gave me last time hehehehe... "
"I see well we got the update. You really did me a great favor by risking yourself like that Kaz."
"Huh? Ya, I always got your back boss you know that."
"I do, I just wanted to thank you. I know I don't say it a lot especially with all I have put you through recently."
"You alright?"
"I'm fine. I just wanted to get that off my chest. We will regroup tomorrow at the hotel. Let Orion know I am grateful for his contribution as well."
"Okay, I'll see you guys later."
Once Kaz had hung up Haley let her phone holding hand drop to her side looking at the crosswalk she was about to pass. She had wanted to knock out Kaz at the gym that way they both could have been discovered in a way that would clear them of any involvement with what she was about to do. Unfortunately she would just have to hope Kaz's luck would hold out. Looking ahead she tossed her phone into a mailbox before heading off to her only stop before she started the final hunt.
"So what exactly is a Necronite?" Erik asked as the trio continued down the heavily wooded area with Sarah running ahead of the two boys, humming another nursery ironically involving sheep. Gaven could see the twitching eye Erik gave in response to the musical notes laughing a little before Erik gave him a glare.
"In a nutshell? She is basically undead brought back to "life" by having her heart replaced with a soul fuse crystal. Pretty messy process with massive side effects like a psychotic split personality named Iferis for example." Gaven said nonchalantly.
"How can you say that like nothing was wrong with that sentence?" Erik asked with a horrified look before returning his gaze to the cheery Sarah before returning to Gaven. "Wait Iferis?"
"That's the name of the "other Sarah" you know the one that saved you, and terrified the other guy unconscious. I had a bit of a chat with Sarah while you were getting our things. Thankfully she isn't one of the Corporations so we don't have to worry about a neck bomb." Gaven grinned, giving Erik a thumbs up.
"Yet again what was part of that sentence was okay?!" Erik yelled.
"Don't dig to much into the details, man. It is what it is. Besides this gives us a better chance if we get caught again. Three on seven is way better than two on seven." Gavin pointed out. A strong gust blew downward causing Erik to hold onto his coat as Sarah giggled running about with her hair fluttering about. At least someone was enjoying this nightly weather... Well it could be worse, it could have still been raining.
"How can she be "living" with just a soul crystal in place of her heart?" Erik asked once the wind died down.
"Honestly? I have no idea on any of the science around it. All I know is that it can be done, and its very dangerous. Even the Corporation cut off the program once they realized eventual each of them would eventually go nuts. Even Sarah is on a timer before Iferis takes full control. Sadly she is aware of that, but doesn't understand what will happen." Gaven said with a silent look as he gave the girl a surprising serious look of sadness.
"...Can anything be done for her?" Erik asked.
"Maybe, but the person who would know is not exactly accessible by any means," Gavin mysteriously responded as he sighed allowed. "Though lets keep one serious thing in focus at a time we're about to have a big confrontation." Upon that Erik immediately snapped into concentration looking around him trying to find any signs that they had been found.
"I don't see anything?"
"Sorry I could have been specific. Were about to near Marinami River in the next few hours thankfully we got pretty far with the train ride... though this little side stroll is annoying it doesn't add to much time to the original plan." Gaven mumbled, cursing the fact they had been found so soon even though he had planned for it. Worse he was given a chance to try, and convince Simon of what had happen.
"What are we going to do?"
"Unfortunately were going to have to have the mind set to take them down before we cross the river. That means we are going to have to involve civilians unfortunately. I would rather avoid it, but we have nowhere to direct this fight that gives us enough time, and distance to cross afterword." Gaven explained.
"So we will have to fight... Promise me there will be no killing!" Erik unexpectedly stepped in front of Gaven causing him to halt as well as Sarah who had turned around at the sudden demand. Gaven could see the look in Erik's eyes he didn't exactly trust Gaven hadn't harmed others, and why not he had admitted to originally being apart of the Corporations. "You too, Sarah. I want you both to promise that all we have to do is fight, that we will make sure that no one dies. Including the enemy." Erik stood his ground clearly not willing to move until Gaven answered.
"Erik they're going to come at us with everything they got this time. All seven of them are going to be in this fight, and most of them are going to have the mindset to kill you two. Knowing that, and how much harder it will be to knock them out at full strength, are you positive you can handle what will come?" Gavin gave the young red head a blank stare as if everything up to this point was now being put into Erik's hands. The fate of these three was now for the moment the responsibility of a boy who couldn't bring himself to let another die in his action. "You only have one fight under your belt while these guys are experienced hunters. We got lucky the last two times, Erik. Your asking us to limit ourselves drastically with a opponent who won't act in kind. Are you willing to put your life in danger?"
"I already had the moment I decided to join you."
"...Heh isn't that the truth," Gaven chuckled, patting Erik on the top of the head. "Alright, I promise no one will die even if it threatens my own safety."
"Me too," Sarah gleefully chimed, raising her hand as she ran up to them. "Iferis won't hurt any of the sheep more than necessary."
"I really wish you wouldn't have added that part," Erik said with a twitch of the eye at the word sheep. That word would probably forever haunt his dreams. "I know I ask a lot, but we are no where near as desperate as to be like them." Erik said with a smile happy to know Gaven was proving he wasn't a murderer. Though Sarah's past actions could be dark for now like Gaven, Erik was going to trust she could do right.
"Alright then we got a lot of walking, and planning to do." Gaven chuckled as Erik stepped out of his way. At this moment as Erik followed after Sarah, and Gaven he felt like was becoming apart of something important. A group who was aiming to correct a major wrong that would better the world. Now... he just had to survive a seven man onslaught to see if they indeed had a future to make things right.
