"How are we going to handle this?" Kim asked as they pulled up outside the diner. "Um yeah maybe you don't meet him just yet. I think I want to find out what his deal is before I subject you to him. He's the one who told me about New York, with that Captain that was killed. Told me to steer clear of you so I don't get screwed over by you. Like you did your unit. I would rather protect you from him if I can." He explained hoping she didn't freak out. "That's fine. I know people will talk about me but it's fine. We will meet family when it's time, no rush. I will gladly sit at the countertop while you talk to him. If you need me just text me." Kim was actually okay with not meeting his dad. He seemed like an old school white cop that didn't like female cops. She dealt with it before and just accepted it.
"Thank you for understanding. And just so you are aware. He doesn't like Voight or Olinsky either. You are in good company." He attempted the joke hoping to lighten the mood. "I'm good no matter what. So let's do this." Kim headed in first to sit at the counter and ordered a tea and a yogurt parfait. Adam entered a few minutes later getting a table near Kim but not too close. He ordered coffee as he waited for his dad to arrive. It wasn't too long before he saw his father arrive. "Hey pops!" Adam greeted. "Adam my boy! Glad you could meet me." Bob was happy to see Adam again.
"Yeah it's been busy but I had some free time before an undercover mission tonight. So why did you want to meet up?" Adam asked somewhat coldly. "Ah right to the point Okay. Well the rumor mill says you are dating that new detective in your unit. I was shocked. Especially after what I told you about her." Bob admitted his true reason which surprised Adam greatly. "We.l first off you were wrong about Kim. About her past. The captain that was murdered was from Queens but not her unit. He was from Gangs and Kim was in SVU. And her unit was corrupt. She helped take them down. It was the right thing to do. And you know that. But secondly yes I'm with Kim. And yes I'm very happy about it. She's been through hell and still cares about people. And still wants to make a difference in this world. Truly it's refreshing." Adam was frustrated but not surprised by the topic. More that he was honest and didn't beat around the bush.
"Adam have you seen the police report that she filled in New York against her husband? You know she's married right? That she has kids?" Bob was very concerned about this new relationship but had a poor way of showing it. "Kim is divorced and has been for a couple of months now. Yes I know she has kids. Twins in fact, a boy and a girl. Milo is a mommas boy through and through and Mia is very independent. They are both little foodies and are quite sweet. They will be three in 4 months. As for the police report I don't want to see it or need to see it. I heard the story and it's pretty horrible. And I don't appreciate you looking into Kim's history or looking into her files. You had no right or reason." Adam was now on the verge of being pissed off.
"Look I was trying to look out for you. You are my boy! That's my job!" Bob was loud in trying to defend himself. Kim had had enough. "Look I get that Mr Ruzek but I have been more than honest with your son and our team about my life. Even told them that my ex husband tried to rape me. I have issues, we all do. I have more walls around me than most. But I'm still trying and I'm still a good person. So when you are ready to have a conversation that doesn't involve attacking me let me know. Till then I will wait in the car. I don't need to hear you discussing my past in public." Kim took the keys and left. "Thanks dad! But I completely agree with you. See ya around." Adam dropped some money on the table and walked out leaving Bob stunned.
"Darling wait up!" Adam rushed over to Kim's side. "I'm sorry. He's an asshole. Please don't leave me. I care about you too much to have you leave over him." Adam held her by the shoulders forcing her to look at him. "Adam. I'm not leaving you. I was leaving that situation before I said or did something I would regret. Lord knows I have faced bigger assholes than him before. So now let's go get the kids and hit up the zoo." Kim lean in to grab his face kissing him before whispering "I really like you too!"
They drove hand in hand to the kids daycare wanting to get to spend time with the kids. As they arrived Kim was giddy to see the kids. She needed time with them to calm the stress from the meeting with Bob. Adam followed behind to carry the kids bags. He liked helping out anyway he could. Inside they asked for the kids and waited till they ran down the hall towards them. "Mommy! Adam!" They both hugged Kim before hugging Adam as well. "Hi babies. We had some free time so we thought we could head to the zoo." Kim watched their faces light up. "Yes let's go please!" Mia asked. "Of course but as we drive you two need to eat your lunch." Kim reminded them since the kids were removed before lunch time.
The kids were buckled in and set up with their lunches as Adam drove towards the zoo. The kids talked about their day in school and the friends they played with. Once they arrived Kim got the double stroller out while Adam got the kids out of the car. Kim got the kids strapped in and Adam retrieved the diaper bag. While both kids were good about using the bathroom Kim still kept them in pull ups just in case. "All right we are all set!" Kim started to walk towards the zoo. Adam followed behind smiling widely at the family scene in front of him. "How about I push the stroller? You love the zoo as much as the kids do." He wanted her to enjoy looking around and was afraid she would run the stroller into something when she saw the animals she loved. "Sounds good babe!" Kim kissed him before letting him take over.
They spent close to two hours walking around the zoo looking at all the animals. Spending extra time in the children's zoo before heading out. Both kids were asleep as they left the zoo. Mia had already been asleep for about 20 minutes before they left. "Should we make lunch for us when we get home?" Kim asked as they rode home. "Yeah I'm starving. I can't wait to eat something." He replied. They hadn't eaten since breakfast and it was not mid afternoon. Plus Adam was always hungry so it wasn't surprising. "Perfect. Have we gotten the details for tonight yet?" He asked knowing they were still waiting for info last time he looked. "Um let me look." Kim pulled her phone out of her purse. "Let's see. Oh Jay texted 2 minutes ago we are meeting at the district at 9 to go over the plans. Come dressed in club clothes. Lovely." Kim rolled her eyes. She hated club clothes.
"Well I guess we to find some thing that will work for me. I'm sure you have plenty of things that will work but me I'm not so sure." Adam didn't do clubs, it wasn't his thing. "You will be fine in some jeans and a button down shirt. It's not that type of club. You will be fine!" Kim chuckled softly at how adorable he was. The rest of the ride was silent, trying not to wake the kids. They arrived outside Kim's home each taking a child bringing them inside taking them to bed. As soon as the kids were settled the couple headed back downstairs. They headed straight to the kitchen to make some lunch for themselves. "Let's eat outside. It's so pretty out today." Kim smiled looking out the door. "Sounds like a plan to me. Let's head outside." Adam grabbed the plates while Kim grabbed the drinks and they went outside.
The deck was covered in sunlight. It was warm and bright. Kim looked up towards the sun basking in the warm glow. "You look like a cat right now. Soaking in the sunshine." He watched her taking a photo without her knowledge. "Well they do have the right idea. The sun feels amazing on my skin. And really my skin needs to sun to stay like this." She moved to the table to take a seat and eat lunch. "This was a good idea. We need to do this more often." Adam mused as they ate. "Yeah the kids and I did this a lot in Queens. We all love being outside together." Kim shrugged a bit. "Well then since it's nice out again we will keep that going. I'm sure they would love to see all the parks around here. And the Navy Pier. Oh and Chicago has a mini golf course that is Toy Story themed. I'm sure they would like that too." Adam was excited to see the kids reaction to all the cool things Chicago had to offer. "Sounds fun! I'm sure they will enjoy it. We mini golf every summer at the beach. It's tradition." Kim explains.
"When do guys go vacation?" Adam asked not knowing anything about it. "Um we leave on May 27th for a week. I uh rented a one bedroom condo for the three of us. It's the place I heal most. Last year it was the perfect place to have my emotional breakdown and be supported at the same time. One of my best friends went with us to help with the kids. Plus he kept them busy when I has broken. It was exactly what I needed. This year I can just relax and enjoy since I'm happy and at peace. I just need to sell the house in Queen and then I'm done with all the connections to him." She was smiling happily thinking about their upcoming vacation.
"Sounds good. I do have one question though. You mentioned a best friend and used the term he. Should I be worried?" The smile on his face told her he was joking. "Oh absolutely not. HE is so not my type at all. And you see I have this really handsome, attractive, sweet man that I really like who makes we really happy. So I'm not interesting in looking elsewhere. Oh and this man I really like knows how to make a women feel special." Kim winked with a sultry smile on her face. "So does this best friend have a name?" He asked laughing. "Yes his name is Michael. He's the kids godfather." Kim answered knowing where this was going. "Have you ever slept together?" He asked. Surprisingly full of jealousy and self confidence. "Are you asking if we slept in the same bed? Or had sex together?" She knew this would happen eventually. "Both." He watched her intently.
"Both. Yes we have had sex together. It was a very long time ago. We were kids. Each other's first time. We broke up before we went off to college. We realized we wanted different things. And decided to remain friends. We lived together through college. We actually owned a home together. Had separate bedrooms and bathrooms. It was great actually. He was a shitty boyfriend but a rock solid best friend. Would you like to see a photo to prove he's not my type? And that you have absolutely nothing to worry about?" Kim wanted to show him he had nothing to worry about. "Yeah if you don't mind." He was still reeling from what he heard. "Here is us in Florida with the kids before I moved to Chicago." Kim handed him the phone and watched his face change from hurt to shocked. "Um darling. Please tell me just didn't age well? He is so not your type at all! Your ex husband was built, I'm built. This guy is kind of fat. Oh darling really?" Adam was completely shocked.
"Told you! You have absolutely nothing to worry about. We are just friends and will always be just friends. Oh and he didn't ever want kids so you know that's kind of an issue you know since I have them. He loves being an uncle but doesn't want them for himself. He actually is quick to leave a restaurant if he hears children." Kim took her phone back and grabbed his hand. "So are we good?" Kim looked him straight in the eye. "Yeah we're good. You just haven't mentioned him before so I got concerned but have no reason to be. I can clearly see that. Thank you for being honest. I'm sure it wasn't fun to talk about the fact you two had sex together." Adam squeezed her hand gently. "Nope not fun but you deserved the truth. We both have a past, we both have had sex with other people. But as long as we only do that with each other now then we are good." Kim smiled knowing this was good for them.
"Look who's at the door." Adam pointed towards the kids who were at the door watching them. "Oh man! How do they do that?" Kim shook her head as she walked over to the door. "Well hello my babies. Do you guys want to make some art outside?" Kim asked as she put their shoes on. The kids nodded. "Okay stay out here with Adam I will be right back." Kim headed inside to grab some art supplies for the kids to play with. When she returned she found the kids chasing Adam around the yard. "Do you want to chase Adam or spray chalk?" Kim called out. The kids ran towards her wanting the chalk. "Okay you know the deal. Be careful and let one of us help you." The kids nodded but Adam looked confused. "It's chalk in a spray can. A good rain will wash it away. It's easy." He nodded watching her spray the can to start before allowing the kids to take over.
"Okay this is really fun and smart! They are loving this." Adam was amazed at how good they were doing. "Yeah I used to let them spray it all over the driveway in Queens but since we were already out here I figured let them use it on the grass. It doesn't hurt it and it washes away so it's simple clean up. It's a win win as a parent." Kim laughed watching the kids spraying the grass trying to make flowers. "We are buying more of this stuff. It's great." Adam helped Mia with making a pretty flower with pink and yellow. They allowed the kids to play until the cans were empty before heading inside to watch a movie while Kim cooked dinner.
They all sat as a family as they ate dinner that night. They knew it wasn't official and no one used the words but it felt like a family. For Kim and the kids probably the first time ever. But it was nice and the kids were loving the attention they received from Adam. While the kids had a father he never wanted them or paid attention to them. So this was new and different for them. Milo seemed to blossom around Adam. Picking up some of his mannerisms and phrases. It was clear the kids had really suffered without a male figure in their lives. Kim was still trying to hold back some with the kids and Adam but her resolve was waring thin. He was really good with them and she loved seeing them interact together.
As it got closer to bed time the kids started to get cranky so Kim ushered them off to bed. She changed their outfits into pjs and had them brush their teeth and potty before getting into bed. Stories were read, one for each and they were out like a light. When Kim left she saw Adam waiting by her room. "We have to leave real soon since we have to stop by my place." He watched her walk to her closet looking for something to wear. She finally found a knee length black leather skater dress that was backless. He watched her ever move once he saw the dress she chose. Kim got undressed opting for smaller panties before grabbing the petal covers. Adam watched as she stuck the very large adhesive petal to her breast lifting it and securing the adhesive tab as high as possible. "What the fuck is that?" He came over to see what the hell she was doing. "Adam the dress is backless. These help hold the breast in position without a bra." She removed the plastic cover and attached the second one. "That looks painful as hell." His face looked like he was in pain or about to be sick. "A little but it hurts more coming off. Now I have to ready." Kim finished getting ready quickly after that. The dress and heals were the final pieces.
"Wow! You look stunning! Crazy sexy girl! If we didn't have work this dress would be gone." He attacked her mouth with his. Each fighting for dominance. "That is too bad but there is always later." She winked and left. After talking with April about the kids and the night ahead the couple left for Adams apartment to get him ready to head out. It didn't take long for him to get dressed and head out again. They arrived at the district just in the nick of time. They team waiting on them to receive their assignments. "Alright thank you all for coming in tonight. I know for some it was harder than others. So I want people scattered around the club so we get a view of all possible locations of a sale. So ladies you will both be at the bar at different areas. Halstead I want you back towards the back exit. It leads to the offices so we could see action there. Ruzek I want you at a table near the middle. Atwater you will be near the front watching the door. Dawson you will be here near the VIP area. My team will be roaming. Voight, Olinsky and myself will be in the van watching the video feed and listening to the audio. Everyone be careful." Sergeant Williams informed the team who was getting wired up for the operation.
"Darling be careful okay." Adam had pulled her aside. "Of course you too." Kim hugged him before heading out to the club with her partner. They all took separate cars so it didn't look like they all came together. Kim entered after Kevin, Erin and Adam only to pause as she entered. "Um boss! We have a problem." Kim tried to keep her voice low and not be seen. "Burgess what's wrong?" Voight was very worried by her tone. "Um yeah so my old partner from New York is here in this bar. Does this have connections to New York and someone needs to talk to him before he blows my cover. I'm not risking this going south by him talking about me being a cop." Kim was freaking out. "Alright we will look into a New York connection but Jay go talk to this guy. Kim give us the description." Voight orders.
"Okay Jay he is in front of you. Curly sandy blonde hair with some grey in it. Beard. Black button down shirt. Rocks glass in the right hand. His name is Detective Terrance Bruno." Kim got closer to the bar take a seat and sighing. "Got him Kim. Relax we got this. Mission is still on." Jay tapped the mans shoulder before he could move towards Kim. He had made eye contact with her and was starting to move her way. "Look she's undercover. Let her be. Our whole unit is here as well as gangs to break up this drug ring." Jay was short and to the point. "So you know who I am then." Bruno asked with a smug smile. "Yeah and she can hear you. Are you here on a case? Jay asked wanting to know what was going on. "If I saw Yes are you going to call off the pit bull act?" Bruno asked smugly. "No! I'm not. You are here without our knowledge. That's kind of a problem." Jay was interrupted by Kim speaking to him. "Jay tell him to home to Rose. She needs him more than he's needed here. He should be more concerned with working on his marriage than being here if he's not on a case." Kim knew if he wasn't on a case he was here for her.
"So How's your wife, Rose? She's still your wife right. The divorce never happened right." Jay watched him swallow hard. "Yeah that's what I thought. Leave Kim alone. She's doesn't want you. She's happy and her boyfriend could literally break your face. So I suggest you leave." Jay didn't leave room for discussion. As the evening moved on the team wasn't get much except for a bartender you liked to flirt with the ladies. Kim had moved closer to Erin knowing there was safety in numbers. She knew Bruno was still watching her but she choose to ignore it. "Hey Fine lady, can I get you another?" The bartender asked Kim. "Oh I don't know. I probably shouldn't." Kim was flirting slightly trying to see if they could get something. "How about we make a deal? I will you give you a free drink and hit if you go make out with some random guy? Create some excitement in here tonight. It's been dead." He offered Kim. "Sounds like a plan. Be right back." Kim stood from her stool and moved towards Adam with her drink in hand.
"Act surprised Adam." Kim whispered just as she straddled his lap and started to make out with him. Their hands roamed the other's bodies making it look more than real. Kim pulled away and headed back to the bar leaving Adam wanting more. Kim winked as she walked back. "Alright I held up my end of the deal. Where my hit and where's the bathroom? I think that man and I need to enjoy this hit together, you know how turned on Coke makes you." She watched the bartender hand her two coasters and point towards the bathroom. Kim sauntered back to Adam pulling him up kiss his neck whispering as she kissed. "Take me to the bathroom like we are going to have sex. We will hand the drugs through the window to the Al. Let's go." Kim allowed Adam to pick her up and carry her to the bathroom. They made out as the walked. Once inside they made sure it was empty before they locked the door and waited for Al.
They handed off the drugs to Al and then messed each other up a bit to make it look like they had in fact had sex. When they arrived back at the bar Adam took the lead. "Yo we want more of that shit. How much?" Adam asked quietly. "50. It's that pure." He replied. "Here's a 100." Adam threw the cash down and took the two dime bags. "Let's go baby girl." Adam pulled her out the door. "Alright once Kim and Adam leave make the arrest." Voight orders. "Everyone else stay to keep eyes on the rest of the staff." Williams yelled. Once the couple was safe inside the van the arrest took place. "Here Kim you might want this." Al handed her his over shirt. "Thanks Al!" Kim smiled wrapping it around her body covering a lot of exposed skin.
"You two head back to the district and write up your reports. And log these drugs into evidence. After that you are done for the night." Voight dismissed them and they headed to the Jeep to head back to the 21st. "That was some good thinking back there. What's up with the partner?" Adam had been curious but stayed focused. "Nothing really. We were close. Um his mother is Italian and taught me how to make and can baby food for my kids. They never got store bought baby food because of her. Anyway. We both were going through divorces at the same time. We bonded over it. But I never wanted more than that. Never let it go there. It would have been wrong. I know he still loves Rose and if I went there it would have been using him. My feelings weren't there. It would have literally just been sex and it would have been wrong since he felt something. So I never let that happen." Kim watched Adam as she spoke. Watched as he relaxed knowing nothing happened and never would.
The rest of the ride was silent but filled with soft touches. It was comfortable for sure. "Hey before we head in. I happy tonight went well and we walked away unharmed. Now let's get these reports done then go back to my place. This dress needs to go!" Adam held out his hand for hers as they walked into the district together. They arrived in the bullpen and got to work right away. It wasn't a ton of paperwork since they hadn't fired weapons but they needed to explain how they got the drugs to back up the arrest of the bartender. Adam has a bit less paperwork to do but he stayed with Kim while she finished her work.
Jay and Erin arrived next with the bartender already in the interrogation room. "Nice work you two." Jay says as they entered the room. "Yeah same to you two. And thanks for handling Bruno. I really have no time for him right now.." Kim looked up sighing at the issues that could lay ahead. "No worries. He was nice enough though thought he would get over on me. He left after you did. Hopefully with the mention of his wife he will return to Queens." He patted her shoulder as he headed to the break room. "I follow her online and they have been back together a lot lately. I really do hope they work it out. She's a paramedic and he's a detective. The hours suck and the cases you bring home took it's toll on them." Kim shrugged knowing they all understood.
"Here take this hoodie. We can leave Al his shirt. You ready to head out?" Adam had their bags in hand. "Yeah I'm good. Need to get these petals off. My skin feels like it's ripping." Kim admitted as she placed her paperwork on Voight's desk. "Are you talking about that sticky bra thing?" Erin asked. "Yeah it works well but with the excess weight I have it tugs on the secure tabs. Also not fun taking it off. Hurts like a bitch." Kim saw jay looking clueless. "You are so cute when you are confused." Erin laughed a Jays face. "Hold on. Give me a minute." Kim reached under the sweatshirt and removed the petal slowly hissing in discomfort. "Here." Kim handed it to Jay who looked freaked out before touching it. "What the hell? How is that even comfortable?" He just touched it and looked it over confused. "At this size it's not really but it works for the dress. Now give it back so we can go home." Kim slid it back into place just before they left the bullpen.
"That was hilarious! His face was epic!" Adam was cracking up as they left. "Oh I know. Thank gif I packed the covered for these things. I can't wait to get them off. Relax a little." Kim sighed leaning into the seat looking out the window. "Well I'm not sure about relaxing but okay." Adam laughed as she glared at him. They rode in silence once more but it was good for them. They arrived outside Adams building a short time later. Helped get her out of the car before grabbing their bags to head inside. As soon as they entered he brought their bags to his room and started to undress. Kim followed behind almost in a daze. It was late and they were tired so he didn't blame her. "You want some help?" Adam asked watching her on the edge of the bed before flopping backwards. "I guess. I'm in a fog right now. I so wasn't prepared for tonight." Kim sighed.
Adam didn't say a word. He just started to remove her shoes before helping to remove his hoodie from her body. Next he untied the back of her dress that was literally just two strings tied at the neck. He contemplated his next move unsure how to remove the dress while she was crashed like that and how to remove the petals without hurting her. "Can you grab the plastic from my bag and I will remove them." Kim knew he was out of his element here. He swiftly grabbed the covers from the bag and handed them to her. He watched as she pulled her skin tight as she removed the sticky petal cover. The nipple area hurt the most. He knew she never had someone to take care of her, never had someone to allow her to just feel. Someone to let her be vulnerable. "Just relax and allow yourself to feel. Let the emotions out, all of them, even crying if you need to." He watched her nod as he knelt down in front of her.
He pulled her legs over his shoulders holding her legs so she couldn't move them. He started to kiss the inside of her thighs.
