The next morning, Chance woke up to the sound of his alarm clock going off. He looked down and saw Vivian was still asleep in his arms. He smiled to himself. 'I seem to sleep better when she's with me.' He thought as he gently pried himself away from her, pressing the alarm to the off position. He snuck around his room quietly, trying not to wake her as he grabbed clean clothes in the dark of the early morning and slipped out of his room to take a shower.
When he returned about 30 minutes later, he found Vivian was still sleeping. He smiled to himself as he gently sat down on the bed in his boxers to finish putting on his garage coveralls for work. He had just put on the long sleeved undershirt when he felt arms wrap around his torso from underneath from behind along with legs around his waist and added weight against his back. He couldn't help the smile that crept across his features.
"Mmm...don't go to work. Come back to bed with me." She said sleepily as she hugged him. She was in her sports bra and panties. Chance chuckled softly. "Wish I could kitten, but I work on Saturdays." She gave a sound of displeasure. "Not even for 20 minutes?" He smiled and sighed, shaking his head and gently prying her off of him. "No Viv. Jake will ring my tail if I'm actually here and still late to work." She let him go, kissing him quickly and getting up off the bed. She leaned down to find what was left of her Shadow Kat bodysuit on the floor. It was shredded in places. "Well, don't know how I'm going to leave here without being naked." She said, shaking her head.
"Not that I would mind..." Chance said, finishing putting on his last boot. "Chance!" She protested and he laughed. "Don't worry, I'll find you something halfway decent that won't swallow you." He said as he started looking through his dresser. He pulled out a pair of his basketball shorts and an old Enforcer T-shirt. He handed them to her and she stared at him as he stared back at her.
"Ahem? Do you mind?" She said as she put her hands on her hips. Chance crossed his arms over his chest and raised an eyebrow. "Not at all, Viv. Nothing on you I haven't seen before." He said with a smirk. She rolled her eyes, trying not to smile. "Just turn around, katsenova." She said, spinning her finger in a circle. He shrugged and turned so his back faced her. She quickly changed into the basketball shorts and Enforcer t-shirt. "Okay, you can turn around now." She said as she put her boots on from her Shadow Kat outfit, as it was the only things aside from her gun and Kevlar vest that survived their night of angry heated passion.
"That shirt was one of my least favorite shirts...until today." Chance said, smiling at her while coming over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Really? I look awful. My hair's not even brushed-" he quickly cut her off with a sweet but chaste kiss. "You're perfect to me, no matter what you wear, Vivian." She instantly blushed at his comment. "Thanks, Chance." Vivian stepped out of his arms and picked up her shredded Shadow Kat costume, Kevlar vest, and gun, tucking her gun within it.
They both made their way down the stairs to see Jake was already down there, ready for the day. He looked up from his place on the couch, drinking a can of milk and reading a newspaper. "I see you guys ended up not killing each other last night. I already fixed the bullet hole in the wall upstairs." Jake said as Chance scratched the back of his head and Vivian blushed. "Sorry, my bad." She said, sort of sheepishly. Jake shook his head. "I'm gonna go lift the doors and open up for the day." He said as he left them alone.
Chance walked her to her motorcycle and stood there. "So, we're both vigilantes from justice, huh?" She secured what was left of her costume on the bike and took her helmet off the handle and looked at him. "Yeah, but that does make this a little easier. You don't have to worry about me revealing your secret to Feral. I don't have to worry about you doing the same to me or having to hide this from you. The only thing I'd be worried about is one of Megakat City's many villains taking you and Jake out."
Chance shrugged and smirked slightly. "Kitten, you don't have to worry about that. I'm your top gun, I'll always come back to you. Now you though...you could use some work." She tucked her helmet under her arm and put the other hand on her hip, giving him a raised eyebrow. "I could use some work? Someone seems to forget I flipped a big bad Swat Kat over my head the first time I met him." Chance laughed. "I was caught off guard then. Don't take it as an offense. Maybe we could train together in the danger room. I'll get Jake to modify it for 3 kats or we could just train together when he's busy with something." He said as Vivian gave him a wide eyed look. "Danger room? Just how big is this place?!" She said as she looked around and Chance laughed. "Bigger than you'd think. I gotta get going, but maybe I'll see you again after work?" He said as he came to stand next to her as she got on the bike, placing her helmet in front of her.
"Yeah maybe. I don't have any plans today. Maybe we can arrange that double date thing you were talking about with Jake's girlfriend?" Vivian asked as Chance smiled. "Yeah! That'll be fun. I'll talk to Jake about it and let you know." He said as he stepped closer to her on the bike and put a hand on her cheek as he leaned in for a kiss. Vivian leaned in and kissed him back. "Have a good day, Chance." She said, smiling. He smiled back, stepping away from her. "You too." She put on her helmet and turned the motorcycle on, revving it a little and then taking off away from the junkyard. Chance walked back to the garage.
Jake had just lifted the last garage door when Chance was walking back. "Made up I take it, buddy?" Jake asked as Chance walked in.
"You could say that." He said with a smirk.
"I might have to apologize to you though, Chance. I found out last night that the apartments upstairs are zero sound proofed. I heard absolutely everything. You weren't just yanking my tail when Callie and I first started dating."
Chance chuckled and blushed slightly. "Well, we also weren't trying that hard to be quiet either. I should probably be apologizing to you, buddy. I'm gonna end up having to replace a lot of things too, including another t-shirt and g-suit." Jake looked at him, shook his head, and went upstairs to go assess the damage. Chance followed him, trying to control the cocky smirk.
"Holy kats Chance! It looks like a hurricane came through here!" Jake said as his mouth dropped open and his eyes going wide. "Gonna need new sheets too. Those got shredded kinda bad." Chance said, putting his arms behind his head. Jake turned to look at him, an eyebrow raised. "I'd hate to see her place when you stay the night there."
Chance chuckled. "We've done some damage there too, just not this bad." Jake just shook his head and started making his way back downstairs. "Hey buddy, would you and Callie wanna go on a double date tonight?" Jake stopped at Chance's question. "Oh? Was this your idea?"
Chance shook his head. "Nah, Viv's actually."
"Oh. I'll ask Callie when she's up later. She likes to sleep in on Saturdays. I learned the hard way what happens when you wake her up early on Saturday." Jake said as he frowned a bit in memory. He took a slipper to the face the last time he tried getting Callie up early on a Saturday.
Many hours later, Callie came to the garage, stepping out of her car dressed in a yellow sundress. Chance and Jake had just finished closing up the shop for the day when she walked up just as Chance was about to close the last door on the garage. He stopped about midway when he saw Callie walking up.
Even though he had given up all hope of ever dating Callie, that didn't stop Chance from still thinking she was a pretty she-Kat. "Hey Callie. You look nice." Chance said as she walked up to him and he lifted the door higher so she wouldn't have to duck down. She blushed slightly. "Thank you Chance. Where's Jake?" He directed with his head, tossing it slightly towards upstairs. "Last I saw him was upstairs." He said as she nodded with a smile and made her way upstairs. Chance turned just in time to see someone in front of him as he was still holding the garage door up.
"Hi, Chance." Vivian said with a smile and a slight blush. She had done her hair in a partial up-do with curls at the ends. She was also wearing a short black dress with sleeves that were see through at the ends and a belt in the middle. She was also wearing short black ankle boots to match. Chance's eyes went wide, his heart sped up considerably, and a ripple went through his fur. 'What did I do in my nine lives to deserve this gorgeous she-kat?' He thought to himself.
"What was that?" She asked with her eyebrow raised. Chance snapped out of it. "Huh? Wha-?" He asked. She couldn't help but smile. 'He's so cute.' She thought. "All you said to me was the word gorgeous. Guess I clean up well." She said, smiling at him. She stood on her tiptoes and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek as she walked in past him and he closed the last garage door.
"You're not dressed yet?" Vivian asked as Chance came out of the garage area and to the living room where she was. "No, I let Jake go get ready first so I could close up shop. I'm heading up there now." She just shrugged and sat down on the couch. "Hurry up, we're gonna be late to dinner." She said as he waved her off. "Nah, we'll be fine." He said as he went for the stairs.
Chance heard Callie giggling from Jake's closed door. He rolled his eyes and knocked on Jake's door. "Hey, don't start nothing in there you can't finish quick, buddy! We gotta go soon!" Chance said through the door, eliciting another giggle from Callie and Jake trying to shush her. "Be out in a minute, pal!" Jake yelled back.
"Oh, is that all it takes?" Chance said, the smirk evident in his reply. "Shut up, Chance!" He heard them both yell at the same time through the door and he chuckled. He turned and went into his room and got changed to go out on their double date.
Chance went through his closet and picked a black t-shirt with a nice dark blue button down to go over it. He rolled up the long sleeves halfway up his arms and tucked the shirt into his blue jeans. He only buttoned up the shirt halfway. He put on his Chuck Taylor style sneakers to complete his look.
Chance left his room a few moments later just as Jake and Callie stepped out of his. He raised an eyebrow at them as Callie blushed and Jake just smiled at him. He was wearing a dark green shirt and tan slacks with brown shoes. They all made their way downstairs to meet Vivian who was sitting on the couch, scrolling through her phone. She looked up when they all came down, putting her phone away.
Callie was the first to speak. "Hi! I'm Callico Briggs. Call me Callie. I'm Jake's girlfriend." She said as she put her hand out to Vivian.
"Ahem? You're my what now?" Jake says while crossing his arms over his chest and she blushed. "Jake's fiancé. Sorry, still getting used to that." She smiled as Vivian stood up and shook her hand back. "Vivian Vanfang. Chance's...date." Vivian said as she looked over and Chance smiled. "It's so nice to finally have someone else to talk to who knows the Swat Kats secret, other than these two." Callie said, smiling.
"I take it you know about mine as well?" Vivian asked as Callie nodded. "Oh yeah I do, but don't worry, your secret's safe with me." She said as she winked. "It's also nice to know there's someone else looking out for these two hotshots, other than themselves." Vivian smiled at her.
"Alright, everyone in the car! I'm starving!" Chance said as he ushered everyone out.
They started driving towards the city in the old green car Chance and Jake had arrived in to the garage several years ago. Chance was in the driver's seat while Vivian was in the passenger seat next to him. Jake and Callie were in the back. Chance happened to look in the rearview mirror and spotted Jake and Callie making out.
"Hey now! No kitten makin' in the car!" They broke apart and he chuckled. Callie blushed while Jake looked at him with a mischievous smile through the rearview mirror. "It would be payback though for what you two did in the Turbokat, buddy." Now it was Vivian's turn to blush. Chance tried to hide his slight blush as well at the memory. "Well...uhm..."
"What happened in the Turbo...oh my..." Callie started to ask, but then realized what had transpired between the two that Jake had referenced. There was a little bit of an awkward silence in the car now between the four kats.
Callie decided to break the tension. "So...how long have you been in Megakat City, Vivian?" She asked as Vivian turned slightly to look back at her. "Oh, uh...about 4 or 5 months now. I used to live here a long time ago when I was younger. After I joined the Army, I left for a while, but I came back when I met my ex-fiancé, Max. When he died, I left once again to serve out the rest of my contract, but then I...had some personal business to take care of, so I came back here." Callie interjected. "As Shadow Kat?" Vivian nodded. "Yeah. Took a page out of the Swat Kats playbook. I couldn't try to stop what was going on as myself, so Shadow Kat was born."
"Oh. So how long have you and Chance been dating?" Callie asked, but Chance interrupted.
"We're here!" Chance announced as he parked the car. He quickly got out and jogged to Vivian's side of the car and opened the door for her, holding his hand out for her to take. "Well, you certainly do know how to treat a she-Kat." She said, smiling as she took his hand and slid out gracefully from the car. He smiled back. "I aim to please." He said as he closed the car door. Jake helped Callie out as well. They all went inside the nice looking restaurant together.
Later, they were all sitting around the dinner table, eating, laughing, and having a great time together. Chance was telling the story of how Vivian was trying to get rid of him on their "friend date" so many months ago now. "So...so I went to talk to the she-Kat Viv sent me to and it turns out, she was more into Vivian than she was into me!" Chance finishes his story, busting out laughing again, while everyone else laughed too, including Vivian.
'Maybe fate intervened that day. I'm glad it did though. I would've missed out on such a great guy.' She thought to herself as she watched him take another sip of his beer. Chance caught her looking at him. He put down his beer and smiled. She smiled back.
"So, when are you two getting engaged or married?" Callie asked with a slight smile as Chance's eyes go wide, almost chocking on his beer and Vivian blushed. "I...well...uhh..." Chance said, stumbling over his words while he looked at Vivian. "Well...uhm...Chance and I are just...dating. We're not like an official...thing right now." Callie gave them both a funny look. "Oh, could've fooled me."
Not long after, Chance and Jake paid the dinner tab while Callie signaled for Vivian to follow her to the bathroom. "We'll meet you guys outside. Us girls are going to go freshen up. Be back in a minute!" Callie quickly went to Jake and kissed him on the cheek. Vivian did the same to Chance, giving him one last smile before she followed Callie.
Chance sighed happily with a dreamy look on his face with his arm on the table holding up his head as he watched her leave. Jake recalled how Chance used to do that when he saw his now fiancé on TV, saying she sure was pretty. "We are really two lucky toms huh, buddy?" He asked as Jake signed and wrote in the tip on the check, looking at his friend who was smiling a stupid happy grin. "Sure are, pal. Finish paying so we can go wait for the girls outside." He said as Chance finished paying as well.
Once they were in the bathroom, Callie turned to Vivian with a serious look. Vivian stepped back a bit. "Uh...something wrong, Callie?" She stepped closer to Vivian. "Look, I care about Chance very much as a friend, but please don't toy with his emotions or him. He comes off as tough and macho, being T-bone doesn't help, but he's really a sweet tom. He likes you a lot. I can see it." Callie says with sincerity and genuine concern for her friend in her eyes. "Callie, you don't have to worry. Chance and I both agreed to this. We want to see where this goes before we call it official. I...didn't know if I was staying in Megakat City long term, and I'm still not sure, but I'm leaning more towards staying now." Vivian couldn't help the smile and the slight blush. "I know what I could have with Chance and I really want to keep him, if he'll have me. I have feelings that run really deep for him and nothing is going to change that." Vivian looked up at Callie only to see her smiling.
"That's good! I'm happy to hear it. Chance deserves a good she-Kat in his life. Maybe he'll actually settle down like Jake is." The thought of settling down with Chance actually didn't scare Vivian. 'He'd protect his mate and kits with his life just like he does this city. Chance will make a great husband and father someday. I'm not sure if he'd be ready for something like that anytime soon, but someday.' She thought to herself as Callie applied more lipstick in the mirror before throwing it back into her purse. "So, ready to go meet back up with the boys?" Callie asked with a smile. Vivian nodded and turned for the door. "Yeah. Let's go."
Later, they decided to take a walk through the shopping district together. Callie and Jake were in front of Vivian and Chance, holding hands and flirting with each other as they walked. Chance gave Vivian a sideways look as they walked. He moved closer and gently slipped his hand around hers. Vivian felt him do that and she couldn't help but smile and look up at him, gripping his hand slightly. He returned the smile as they walked hand in hand together. She got an even bigger smile as a thought came across and she stopped walking and pulled him down to her level with his hand and upper arm and kissed him in the middle of the walkway. Chance smiled shortly before their lips met.
Later on in the night, Chance walked Vivian to her apartment. He gently pushed her against the door to her apartment, and leaned down to kiss her once more. She giggled before his lips met hers. She held on to his blue button down shirt, pulling him as close as she could get him. Eventually they had to part for air. "Stay with me tonight, Chance." She said breathlessly as she heard him groan, putting his forehead to hers. "Don't tempt me, Kitten. I really want to, but Jake and I have SK things to do in the morning, plus I have to take those two home. Jake and Callie had more drinks than I had and I'm not a hundred percent sure they're not trying to start a family in the car right now." Vivian laughed at his comment. "I guess I'll be missing you until I can see you again then."
"Me too, Viv." He said before he leaned down to kiss her once more. She decided to give him something to think about on the drive home. She pulled him by his shirt into her more, wrapping a leg around his waist and molding herself to him. Chance groaned through the kiss as many inappropriate thoughts and feelings were aroused in him.
"Hey Chance! We going home or what, buddy?!" Jake was heard to yell from the parking lot. Chance broke the kiss and shook his head and sighed, while Vivian giggled once more. "I better get going. See you tomorrow, maybe?" Vivian nodded. "Tomorrow, maybe." He smiled and took her in his arms again, giving her a quick kiss and hugging her. Vivian watched as he walked back to the car to take his friends home.
She pulled out her keys and unlocked her door and stepped inside. It was pitch dark inside her apartment. She closed the door and locked it. Vivian had only taken a couple of steps before something grabbed her from behind. She gasped, but quickly grabbed the arm that was wrapped around her upper chest and flipped a larger Kat on to the floor. He hit the floor with an audible "oooff". The voice was obviously male. Someone else grabbed her in the dark. Placing her arm behind her and restraining her.
"Well, looks like all those karate lessons I paid for didn't go to waste." She heard a familiar voice in the dark say. She stopped struggling once she heard it. A light was flipped on and the big Kat she recognized as one of her Father's personal bodyguards stood up from the floor. She looked to her couch and saw her father sitting on the couch, staring at her. He had one leg over the other and a hand holding up the side of his face leaning on the arm. Cold steely blue eyes stared back at her.
"What the hell do you want? You're not welcome here. None of you." Vivian nearly growled at him, straining against whoever was holding her back.
Dominic Vanfang smirked at her and stood up, coming to stand in front of his daughter. "I think you'll change your tune once you hear me out." He said as she struggled to get away. "I don't want to hear anything from you." She said, glaring at him. He leaned in closer to her face. "I know your secret, dear Daughter number one." She stopped struggling. "What secret? I don't keep a million of them, unlike you, Dad."
He smirked. "Oh really? How about this?" The bigger Kat that Vivian flipped over when she first came in, handed something to him. "What's this then?" He asked as the garment unfolded to reveal her Shadow Kat costume. She kept her composure. "That's just...a Halloween costume." She said. He raised an eyebrow at her. "Oh really? A Halloween costume needs a Kevlar vest? And this..." He said as he pulled out her gun. "Doesn't look like a prop gun to me and it matches the one Shadow Kat uses." She grit her teeth. 'No use in denying it now, but what does he want?! He wouldn't kill his own daughter...would he?' Vivian thought nervously to herself.
"I'm here for a reason, Vivian. I want you to stop being Shadow Kat. End it now before you end up dead." She just stared at him while he continued. "I also want you to throw the Swat Kats off their game, particularly the pilot, T-Bone." She kept a steely look at him. "What makes you think I know T-Bone personally?" Dominic made a gesture for the bodyguards to leave. They let go of Vivian and stepped out of the apartment. She watched her father closely as he pulled out a tablet and there was clear evidence she knew T-Bone, personally.
It was camera footage from a nearby building of hers and T-Bone's shared night in the Turbokat. It wasn't footage of what had mainly transpired, but it did catch them making out against the access door and her being led to the Turbokat just before anything else was seen. "I'm disappointed in you, Vivian. Public mating on a roof with a vigilante. Really?" He said as he scrolled through to the next reel. Someone caught her on video sneaking into the hangar and other videos of the Turbokat leaving the scrapyard. There were also videos of Chance and Jake around the salvage yard. Vivian's heart stopped and her eyes went wide.
"Looks to me like you know him, along with Razor, pretty well. Here's what I want you to do. End things with that mechanic. Break his heart and throw him off his Swat Kats game." Vivian felt her heart shattering at the thought of hurting Chance. 'He's been spying on me and I've unknowingly led him straight to the Swat Kats! To Chance...'
"Or...I could send a group to take care of them both right now. It's your call, Viv." Vivian felt herself fighting with her inner turmoil. 'I don't want to break his heart, but I don't want him killed by my father either.' Vivian hung her head in sadness. "If I do this...you'll leave him alone?" She asked as Dominic smirked. "You have my word, as long as him and his partner stays out of my business, and you stay away from him."
Vivian couldn't believe she was being forced to give up Chance just to keep him alive and safe. She shook her head and sighed. "Fine. It'll be done." An evil smirk came across Dominic's face. "Good girl. You should come to the house more often and visit your dear old Dad. Welcome back to Megakat City, by the way, dear daughter." He said as he walked out of her apartment. Shortly after the click of the door closing, Vivian fell to the floor in a heap. She started crying very pained sobs as she lay on the floor. 'I can't believe he's forcing me to break up with Chance. He knows his and Jake's secret because of me. Why wasn't I more careful?!' She thought as her body was racked with sobs.
The next day, Chance and Jake were both in the hangar, working on the Turbokat and other things. "Callie likes Vivian, by the way buddy. She said we should all hang out again soon. Last night was fun and I thought so too." Jake said as he was re-programming the weapons panel from his seat in the TurboKat. Chance was tightening a bolt on the body of the Turbokat. He smiled at Jake's words.
"I'm glad she has Callie's approval and yeah, last night was fun." Chance said as he heard the doorbell for the garage ringing. The screen for the security came on and showed Vivian standing at the door to the garage. 'Huh, speak of the devil, or in her case the angel.' Chance thought to himself with a smile as he jumped down off the wing of the Turbokat, putting down his wrench on the nearby toolbox.
"It's Vivian. I'll be back in a minute pal." Chance said as he saw Jake's hand wave from the Turbokat. "Go on. I'll be busy here for a while." He said as Chance went for the ladder back to the garage. He came up through the trapdoor and walked to the front door of the garage. He smiled, but it faded as soon as he noticed Vivian wasn't smiling back at him. She looked like she had been crying recently as well. Her face fur was matted a little and her eyes were slightly red.
"Hey kitten, what's wrong? Why do you look so down?" Chance said with genuine concern. "I...need to talk to you. Can we sit on the couch?" She said, sadness evident in her voice.
'Uh-oh...I know that tone. That's usually the words a girl uses just before she is about to break up with you...or she's pregnant.' Chance didn't let his worry show as he nodded and led her over to the couch. He took her hands in his and looked at her.
"What is it Vivian?" He asked as she took a deep breath and sighed. She couldn't help the tingling feeling that he was giving her that she loved when he touched her. 'I have to give this up to keep him alive and safe. It's not fair at all to either one of us.' Her heart was shattering just looking at him, knowing she was about to hurt him, which is the last thing she ever wanted to do to him. "Chance, I'm...I'm sorry...but I have to end this." She saw his ear twitch a little at her words. "Could you...could say that again?" He asked, hoping he didn't hear her right as she hung her head and wouldn't look at him. "I'm...I'm ending things with you. I can't do this anymore." Chance felt like his heart fell out of his chest, hit the floor, and shattered.
"Wh-why? Did I do something wrong?" Chance asked, trying to keep his voice from wavering as she shook her head. "I...I made a mistake. I shouldn't have gotten involved with you. I jeopardized my job and took advantage of-". Chance interrupted her. "Viv, what are you talking about? I'm more at fault than you. I came on to you first. I convinced you to go out with me and we developed feelings for each other. I know that's not what this is about. Tell me the real reason you want to end it." He said, pulling on her hands slightly. She still refused to look at him.
"It's...it's too dangerous for us to be together, Chance. I'm...I'm being watched and they threatened to kill you if I don't stay away. They know about you and Jake being the Swat Kats. They said if I stopped being Shadow Kat and I broke things off with you, you'd be safe." Chance's eyes narrowed at this. "Who's watching you, Vivian? And who knows we're the Swat Kats? I can take care of myself and you-" He started, but Vivian yanked her hands away from him, trying to hold back tears and stood up from the couch. "Just stop it, Chance! It's over!" She yelled at him and ran for the door. Chance got up and tried to chase after her but came outside only to find her speeding away from the garage. Chance stood there, broken hearted, angry, and sad all at the same time.
