The next day, Chance woke up on his own. He didn't even need his alarm clock this time. He rolled out of bed and quickly threw on some clothes. He went into their kitchen, digging through their designated junk drawer, finding a pen and a piece of paper. He quickly scribbled a note to Jake, letting him know he'd be gone for probably most of the day at the hospital with Vivian. At least it was Sunday, and they were closed, so their work wouldn't suffer and stack up. Besides, he probably already assumed he'd be there anyway. He put the note in the middle of the stove for him and proceeded to leave. He grabbed the keys to the car and headed down the stairs to the outside world.
A while later, Chance arrived at the hospital. He had made a quick stop at a flower shop before heading to the hospital and got her a bouquet of flowers. He walked up to the check-in desk. A young she-Kat looked up and smiled at him. "Good morning, need me to help you find someone?" Chance shook his head as he filled out the guest check-in form. He quickly scanned it, making sure Dominic hadn't checked in. He was sure he already wasn't welcome there as T-Bone. He didn't need his civilian ego banned as well. "No thanks. Already know where she is." He said as she took the clipboard and quickly made him a visitor sticker. She handed it to him. "Just stick that on your shirt or a visible place and you're good to go!" Chance quickly slapped it on his upper chest and walked past check-in to go see Vivian.
He made it to her door and peeked in. He was surprised to see her sitting up and awake. A nurse was checking her vitals. Vivian turned to see Chance standing there. A smile instantly came across her features. "Chance!" She said excitedly as he came into the room. She reached out for him as he came closer to her bed. He put the bouquet on the table next to her and swept her up in his arms as much as he could. The nurse smiled at the scene as she left the two to be alone. She pulled the curtain in front of the door for more privacy. "I thought I'd lost you for a second there, Vivian." He said, having to hold back tears at the thought. 'Gods, this she-Kat makes me so emotional sometimes.'
"I thought I'd never see you again. Mom says hi, by the way. She thinks you're handsome." He pulled back and looked at her. "Uhh...Kitten? you sure you're off the good stuff?" He asked as an eyebrow raised. She laughed slightly. "I'm not kidding Chance, and I'm not high on painkillers either. I saw her and I talked to her. I chose to come back earth side." He shook his head. "Whatever you say, love." He gently tipped her face up to his under her chin with a finger. She complied and their lips met. After a few moments they parted but kept their arms around each other. "See? Told you that wouldn't be our last kiss." He said as she smiled. "So, I think your little secret's right up there with mine and Jake's." He said as she looked at him, slightly confused. "What secret?"
He smirked. "The one where you forgot to tell me you're a mafia princess." Her brows furrowed at this. "I am not a mafia princess. Far from it." She said as she let go of him and crossed her arms over her chest in bed and pouted slightly. "Besides, I didn't think it was something I needed to let you know about because I...I was afraid..." She said as her face softened, and she stopped crossing her arms over her chest.
Chance probed. "What? Of him?" She shook her head. "No. I was afraid of losing you. I thought you'd never speak to me again. A stand-up tom dating one of the most feared mob bosses' daughters? I'd think you'd be disgusted that the she-Kat you fell for was the product of someone evil like him." She said, looking down at her hands in her lap. She felt his hand gently take hold of her cheek and made her turn and look at him. "Viv, there is nothing you could do in this world that would make me want to stop talking to you or make me stop wanting to be with you." He said, giving her a toothy grin. "Unless I was a villain of Megakat City?" She quipped. He chuckled slightly, bringing his face close to hers. She clutched his t-shirt. "Not even then, gorgeous. You've done so many things in the name of justice and goodness, it isn't possible for you to be a bad girl."
She bit her lip. "I am in other ways." She said seductively to him. Chance looked at her wide-eyed and smirked. "Kitten, don't get me riled up. You've just had surgery. Wouldn't want to pop those stitches now." She hissed in pain suddenly and Chance's ears fell back in concern. Her hand going to the patched-up exit wound. "Mmm...maybe you're right. It's still a bit tender." She said, looking up, noticing their faces were very close together. She dragged him down a bit by his shirt. "But I'm still up for some bill and coo." She said as she kissed him. Chance wrapped his arms around her gently, happily kissing her.
"Ahem?" They both broke away when they heard a female voice from the door. Chance turned to look and saw Callie and Jake standing there. "Sorry, she insisted." Jake said, scratching the back of his head. Callie brought a vase of flowers. "Just wanted to come by and see how you were doing. Obviously more than okay from the looks of things." Callie said, setting the vase down next to Chance's bouquet. "Oohh. These are pretty. They from Chance?" Vivian turned and looked. "Oh yeah, they are, and I think so."
Callie raised her eyebrow at them. "Too busy sucking face to notice?" Both Vivian and Chance blushed. "Anyway, I've already contacted Enforcer HQ for you, saying you had been involved in a jet ski accident on Anakata island. You're fine, but you'll be in the hospital for a week or two. Just trying to cover for you so no one else finds out you're Shadow Kat or that you're related to Boss Vanfang." Vivian nodded at Callie in appreciation. "Thank you."
"One more thing, no more messing with Chance's head. I can only quell Feral's undying hate for you know who for so long." She said, giving her a wink. Vivian nodded. "Never again, I promise." They all heard a knock on the edge of the doorway. All four kats turned towards the doorway to see who it was.
Lilian was standing there, sort of nervously. "Am I interrupting something?" Vivian smiled, seeing her sister. "No, Lil. It's just my boyfriend and friends. Come in." She came in, not able to hold back tears while walking past everyone and going straight into her sister's arms. "Oh my Gods Vee-Vee, I feel like this is all my fault! I should've never told Dad-" she started, but Vivian interrupted her, rubbing her back as she cried into Vivian's shoulder. "It's okay Lil. You couldn't have known what Dad was going to do. I don't blame you." She said smiling as Lilian looked up at her. "Dad said he got kicked out of here yesterday because him and T-Bone got into it in your room and trashed the hospital. You actually know T-Bone?" Vivian gave her sister a weird look, and then looked up at Chance, who gave her a nervous smile. "What the hell?" She mouthed the words to Chance, whose nervous smile got wider.
She shook her head as she looked down at Lilian. "He's...a friend now. Lil, I really can't talk about that here and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't anymore either." Lilian only nodded and hugged her. "I'm just so glad you're still alive! I lost mom, I can't lose you too! If you need anything, please, please, please call me first!" Vivian hugged her back. "I will. I promise." She said as Lilian pulled back. "I gotta get going, but let me know when you're getting out, okay?" Vivian nodded and smiled at her sister. "I will. Again, I promise." Lilian turned and smiled at the group, but then came straight to Chance. "You better take good care of my sister when I'm not around, okay? You break her heart, and I will break off the thing she seems to like the most about you." She said as everyone's mouths dropped open but Chance's.
"Lilian Vanfang!" Vivian cried out from her bed. Chance smirked and raised an eyebrow. "Lilian, I'm surprised at you! Don't you know I'm not that kind of tom? I'm worth the wait. I'm as pure as freshly fallen untouched snow." She raised an eyebrow at him and crossed her arms over her chest. "Really? Because I'm sure there's a ton of pee spots, and there's a lot more yellow than white in your so-called snow." Everyone burst out laughing at her response. He smiled and gently grabbed her by her shoulders and hugged her. "Don't worry, your sister's in good paws. I'll make sure she never gets hurt like this again and I don't plan to hurt her myself on purpose, ever." She hugged him back and punched him lightly in the chest. "You better not, sir, or you know what happens. I'm small, but I'm like my sister. I'm a tough she-bitch and I'll mess you up." Chance smiled. "Duly noted." She stepped away from him and noticed Callie. "Oh, sorry I didn't properly introduce myself. You're the deputy mayor, right?" She said as she offered her hand out to Callie. She smiled and took it. "It's fine. Callie Briggs." They shook hands. "Lilian Vanfang, Vivian's sister, obviously. Nice to meet you." Callie smiled at her. "Nice to meet you too."
"I'm gonna get going. You have my number Vee-Vee. Don't forget to call me. I also want the deets about you two." Vivian raised an eyebrow at her. "What 'deets' are you talking about? You see us together. What more could...you..." The realization hits Vivian and she blushes. Lilian gives her a Cheshire Kat smile. "Oh, you know the deets I'm referring to." She said, giving Chance the eyebrow. "See you guys later, or talk later, whatevs!" She said waving as she left.
Vivian shook her head. "Swear, my sister should have been born a tom." She turns to Chance. "And you, what did she mean by you and my father got into it in my room?" Chance gets a sheepish look as he scratches the back of his neck. "Well...I might have gotten a little emotional and chucked something at him from your room and told him to leave."
Jake spoke up. "Be honest, Chance. You threw a few things at him and yelled at him to leave. I would know. I was there, buddy." Chance blushed as Vivian stared at him. "Yeah, okay. I got a little too emotional and might have trashed the doorway to your room, trying to get him out of your room and not come near you. After what he allowed to happen, can you blame me? He doesn't deserve to be the father of one of the most wonderful she-kats I know and love." She gently took his hand. "I appreciate the concern, Chance and I love that you wanna protect me, but he's still my father. I'm going to keep him at arm's length from now on. Also, just how many she-kats do you know that you love?" She said, raising an eyebrow at him. Chance smiled. "Well, my mother for starters, and of course the soon-to-be wife of my best friend, Callie over there, and then you." He said, bringing her into a hug, placing his head on top of hers. She smiled and nuzzled herself into his neck and chest. "Glad to be one of the important ladies in your life then." She purred.
Almost a week later, the doctors mentioned how fast Vivian was recovering remarkably from the surgery. Chance came to see her every day. She even gave him the extra key to her apartment so he could grab her mail and check on things for her. She was in her hospital room, getting ready to leave. Chance insisted she stay at the garage with him while she recovered for the week and a half. She tried to say no to him, that she didn't want to be a bother for Chance and Jake. He was persistent, so she finally agreed. While she was packing up her room, a doctor came in and closed the door. He was an older graying tom. "Ms. Vanfang? May I have a word?" She turned and smiled slightly at the old doctor, sitting down on the bed. "Yes sir. Something wrong?"
He looked down at her chart and then at her. "Well, not really wrong, but we found an anomaly in your last set of blood work." Vivian's eyes went wide. "What kind of anomaly?" She asked as he looked up at her. "When you were finally awake, you informed the nurse that the only medication you were on was birth control, but your blood work revels that you're currently pregnant. Were you aware of that, Ms. Vanfang?" Vivian's eyes nearly popped out of her head. She felt like she was hit by a ton of bricks. "There's...there's no way. It's not possible." She said, very much in shock. "Have you been mating in the last week or two, Ms. Vanfang?" He asked as her memories brought her back to the passionate angry mating she and Chance had with reckless abandon when they found out about each other's secret identities and then the last time in her apartment on the rainy day when they got back together, and passion ruled their thoughts and actions.
"But...I never miss one." She said out loud. He flipped through her chart. "Sometimes a false positive can pop up, as the pill tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant when it's not, so you don't conceive kits. Just keep a watch for your heat cycle and if it doesn't come, then you need to have a visit with your OBGYN." Vivian nodded, slightly relieved. The doctor left and Chance came in. He noticed the look on her face. "Hey beautiful, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost?" She shook it off and smiled at him. "It's nothing. I'm fine. Just ready to leave this place." He came over and kissed her on the forehead. "Okay love. Just making sure everything's good." He waited until she zipped her duffle bag and then took it, slinging it over his shoulder. "I'm ready when you're ready." He said as Vivian slipped her hand into his and walked out the door with him.
A few days later at the garage, Vivian found herself to be the happiest she had ever been, even though she wasn't actually living with Chance. She felt at home with him, more so than she ever did with Max or anyone else. She cooked for both Chance and Jake. There were no complaints. She even overheard Jake telling Chance to ask her to stay an extra few weeks as he loved her cooking. They slept next to each other in his bed. She loved it when he would cuddle with her until she fell asleep, usually waking up with his strong arm around her waist or just under her torso. He even offered to sleep on the couch, but she wouldn't have it.
She was leaned against Chance in the circle of his arms while his hands were holding a game controller with his chin slightly resting on the top of her head. They were both sitting up his bed, while he was playing a video game. Of course, it was a flying and shooting game. She waited until he got to a save point before she spoke.
"Chance? Can I ask you something?" She asked as he paused before the beginning of the next level. "Hmm? Yeah, kitten. What's up?" He said, looking down at her. She took a slow deep breath and let it out. "Do you want kits?" She saw his eyes go wide and the slight panic set in. "Uh...now? No offense Viv, but we haven't known each other even a year yet or dated even that long. And...I know some kats do things backwards nowadays, if they even decide to do it at all, but I would like to be married to the she-Kat I decide to have kits with. Someday I do, just not right now." She laughed. "I'm not asking if you wanted to right now. I just wanted to know in general. You know because dating usually should lead to an eventual marriage and kits. Just...wanting to make sure you were on the same page as me for some day." His features soften a bit. "Yeah, I do, someday." She smiled at this.
She then caught the shadow of lust in his eyes. He quickly but gently slid her over his leg and to the bed on her back behind them. She laughed when he did that. He crawled on top, looking down into her eyes. "So, we still doing the bill and coo thing, or do you wanna get some practice in for the day we actually start trying for kits in the future?" He asked as he gently moved hair out of her face. She smiled at him, looking up at his sky-blue eyes. "Hmmm...doctor said I could resume strenuous activities today." He smiled as his hand went between her lounge pants and her t-shirt, pushing her shirt up slightly. He stopped when his finger caught a little on the rough spot where the stitches were on her upper abdomen. He looked down at the spot where the stitches were almost dissolved and the fuzzy fur that was growing back in where they had to shave her to get to the injury. His ears fell back. A permanent reminder of his failure to save her. "Dad or Luca, Megakat City." She said as he looked up at her. He was reminded of her other bullet scars.
"Might as well be my name or T-Bone's for that one." He said with the disappointment evident in his voice. She pulled his face up gently to look at her. "You did everything you could to save me, Chance. I could've gotten way more hurt or worse if you guys hadn't come in like you had. Not kicking down the door and just open firing." He shrugged. "Well, something good came out of it. I got the best bed buddy to take care of for a couple of weeks, who also happens to be a personal five-star chef." He grinned as she laughed. He laid his chin on her chest, looking directly into her emerald eyes. "I love you." He said as she smiled. "I love you too." She leaned in and kissed him. He responded, moving so she was directly under him again. She curled a leg around his hip, letting him sink more into her and push her further into the mattress.
She suddenly felt sick. Her stomach started to turn and she felt something coming up the back of her throat. "Get off." She broke the kiss and said to him, starting to push at his shoulder slightly. "Oh, I plan to kitten, but you first." He growled slightly. "No, no! I mean get off! I need to..." She pushed him off and onto the vacant side of the bed as she jumped off, covering her mouth. Chance was both surprised and concerned. She quickly opened his door and went into the bathroom. She slammed the door shut and threw up into the toilet. After a few moments, she heard knocking at the door. "Viv? Are you okay?" She tore some toilet paper off the roll and wiped her mouth and throwing it back in the toilet and flushing. "I'm okay." She said as she sat on the floor by the toilet. She gently let the back of her head hit the wall. "Okay. Let me know if I can do something or bring you something." Chance said, stepping away from the bathroom door. A million thoughts ran through Vivian's head as she sat on the floor of the bathroom. 'Oh Gods, please don't tell me I somehow got pregnant. There's no way, right? And if I am, how do I tell Chance?'
