Vivian sat in the floor of the bathroom, fighting back tears. She was in shock for a few moments. 'Chance just got done telling me he didn't want kits for a while. It's too soon and I agree, but I don't think I can bring myself to get rid of something...someone...we created, weather we meant to do it or not. They're still another life. They'll be a piece of Chance and me.' She gingerly touched her flat stomach and looked down. 'Or...maybe I'm just overthinking things and it's just a reaction to the pain meds or I caught a bug.'
She used the wall to push herself up to leave the bathroom. She walked back into Chance's room. He was sitting on the edge of his bed, waiting for her. He looked at her, concerned. "I gotta say, Viv, I've never had a she-Kat have that reaction to me when I proposed messing around before. First time for everything, I guess." He chuckled slightly, trying to bring humor in it. She smiled slightly. "Sorry. Guess I had a bad reaction to the pain meds or something. I think I'm gonna lay down for a while." Chance's smile faded. "Can I get something for you? Go out and get you something? Maybe you need to sip on something or eat something?" She shook her head. "No. Hopefully I'll feel better after a nap." Chance shook his head and picked up his game controller again. "Alright, kitten. I'll be right here if you need anything." He said as he sat in the middle of the end of the bed, crossing his legs and turning the TV down low enough to where he could still hear it, but also enough not to disturb Vivian. She waited until he was very into his game so he wouldn't look. She grabbed her purse from the nightstand and unzipped the pocket she knew her pills were in. She pulled out the leaflet of pills. Fear instantly struck her hard.
'Oh crud...I missed a few days when I was taken hostage by Dad and was in the hospital for a few days. I...may actually be pregnant...' She thought to herself as she looked over at him. He was smiling slightly from the side, enjoying his game. He was a handsome tom, not that this was the first time she noticed. 'Mom's probably right. He will make cute kittens, especially if the boys come out looking like him. I'd have to beat the little she-kats off my little boy with a bat. Viv! What are you saying?! He's probably going to make you get rid of him or her or you're going to end up raising them by yourself. Them...what if there's multiple kits in there?! Oh Gods, he's going to be so angry with me...' Thoughts flew wildly through Vivian's brain as she stared at him.
Chance felt her eyes on him and paused the game to turn and look at her. "What?" He asked, concerned as she shook her head. "Nothing." She said as she took the blanket and pillow, coming to wrap herself around his lower back. His tail rose to wrap around her slightly as she settled in against him. Her stomach was pressed against his lower back. The warmth helped lull her to sleep a little as Chance played his game, smiling at the feeling of her curled up around him. Eventually she would wake up, have dinner with Chance and Jake, and go straight back to bed. Chance didn't argue or protest. He just settled in with her and watched TV in his room the rest of the night as she slept.
The next morning, Vivian woke up before Chance. She slowly slipped out of bed, trying to be careful not to wake him. She managed to slip her clothes on and grabbed her purse. She went to open the door, but to her surprise, something was stopping her from opening the door. Her eyes went wide as she traced the brown stripped blonde arm to none other than her boyfriend in nothing but basketball shorts. His eyebrow was lifted. "Trying to skip town on me, Kitten?" He said as she thought for a moment. 'Might have to after I find out my results.'
"N-no. Weren't you asleep?" She asked as he smirked. "I'm usually a hard sleeper, but when I have my arms around you and you move, I wake up, just in case you need something. Now where are you going?"
"Uh, corner store?" She said as he gave her a slightly suspicious look. "Well, why didn't you wake me up? I'd go get whatever you needed. What do you need?" She had to think quickly. "Uhm...it's...it's personal. I don't want you having to go get it..." Chance stared at her and then it hit him and he blushed a little. "Oh! She-Kat things. Yeah...no, but I'll drive you up there if you want?" She started panicking slightly. "You don't have to..." Chance waved her off. "Nah, it's okay. Besides, we can go have breakfast together after, since you've been our personal chef for the past week." He said, smiling. "Let me throw some clothes on first, then we'll go." She clutched her purse, knowing there was no way to convince him not to go with her without him becoming super suspicious. 'Damn it. Hopefully he doesn't try to go into the store with me. Then he'll be pissed for sure, weather I am or not.'
A while later, Chance stopped the tow truck in front of the corner store. He was about to turn the truck off when Vivian stopped him, placing a hand on his arm. "You can stay here. I only have to get one item. No need for you to come in just for that." Chance stared at her for a moment and then shrugged. "Okay, if you say so. I'll be out here." He opened the center console and pulled out a comic book he had stashed in the truck. "I love you." She said to him, and he turned and looked at her, smiling a bit. "Well, I love you too, Viv." He said as she tried to keep her smile. 'You probably won't anymore if I'm suddenly pregnant.' She thought as she closed the truck door and walked into the corner store. She quickly found the she-kats needs isle. She scanned the shelves quickly and picked the simplest pregnancy test she could find. She grabbed two. She walked back quickly to the checkout, hoping Callie, Jake, her sister, or her father for some reason didn't come in there by some unlucky chance and see her buying that item.
"You want a bag for this?" The check out she-Kat said as Vivian nodded. She bagged it up and handed it to her. "Good luck." She said as she resumed reading her magazine, very bored. Vivian walked out the door and back to Chance's tow truck. His head was buried in his comic book. He only looked up when she got back in the truck. "Hey, you find whatever you needed?" He asked as she made sure to put the bagged-up boxes on her right side so he wouldn't accidentally see what they were. "Yeah. Let's go" Chance put his comic book away and backed out of the parking spot to drive back to the garage.
When they got back, Vivian immediately made a beeline for the bathroom and locked the door. She quickly pulled the first box out of the bag, tore open the top of the box, then the wrapper, and finally pulled out the pregnancy test. She quickly did what she needed to do, placing the cap back on it, and putting the first test on the counter. She nervously waited for the results. She set a timer on her phone. Her thoughts were all over the place. After what seemed like forever, her phone went off and she jumped. She immediately grabbed for the stick on the counter. She covered her mouth as tears formed in her eyes.
'Oh no...no! Two very bright pink lines...crud...maybe...maybe it's a false positive. I'll take another one...' She thought to herself, slightly panicking. She quickly went downstairs to get a can of milk. Luckily, it was Saturday and Chance was busy helping Jake with work. She grabbed the can out of the fridge and ran back upstairs. She opened it and quickly chugged it, waiting to be able to go to the bathroom again. About 30 minutes later, Vivian felt the need to go. She once again was sitting in the bathroom, waiting for her results. Her ears perked up when she heard the siren going off. 'What's that?' She thought to herself as it blared through the garage. She heard someone coming up the stairs. She quickly hid the pregnancy tests and came out into the hallway to meet him.
"Hey, the city needs us. You gonna be okay alone here?" Chance asked as she gave him a reassuring smile. "Yeah, Chance. I'm not gonna ask you to be careful...just...come back in one piece to me." He smirked at this. "Was there ever any doubt that I will? You know I will." He leaned down and kissed her quickly and ran back downstairs. "Hurry up, Chance! We need a pilot!" She heard Jake yell from the trap door opening. She quickly went back into the bathroom and pulled out both pregnancy tests. 'The lines on this one seemed brighter than the first one! There's no way I got two dud tests, and my heat cycle should have come by now.' She closed the door and slid down it. Her head fell back against the door as she looked up at the ceiling. A silent tear fell from her eyes. 'How do I tell Chance? He's not going to be very happy with me when I tell him that he's gonna have a kit or kits he doesn't want. What am I going to do?!'
A couple of hours later, the Swat Kats returned from once again saving the city. They were both coming up through the trap door. "No matter how many times we take them out, those bucket butts keep coming back!" Chance said, referring to the infamous Metallikats, as he surfaced from the hangar trap door. Jake shook his head. "I thought for sure they had been destroyed along with Zed, but I guess not. Don't worry pal. We'll get them next time." Chance went to the fridge and tossed Jake a can of milk and took one out himself. "Yeah, just set up post at every bank in Megakat City. We'll get 'em eventually." He saw Vivian coming downstairs, her face looked crestfallen. Chance put his milk can down on the coffee table. "Kitten, what's wrong? You look like you've been crying." He noticed she was hiding something behind her back.
Vivian sighed and shook her head. "You might wanna have a seat for this one." She said as she took a seat on the couch, pursing her lips. Chance stared at her as he slowly sat down on the couch with her. "What's going on, Viv?" She sighed once more and shook her head. "Well...uh...there's no easy way to say this, so here..." She said as she handed him the pregnancy tests. Jake's eyes went wide and he left the room before Chance could see his reaction. Chance looked down at them, confused. He had never seen one of these before. "What's this?" She shifted in her seat and bit her lip. "It means...I'm pregnant, Chance."
She watched as the color drained from his face under his fur. The instant undeniable look of fear in his eyes as they went wide, and his mouth dropped open. The tests slipped out of his hand and on to the floor. "Are you...you sure?" He asked as she nodded slightly. "I have to go to a Doctor to confirm, but yes, I'm pretty sure. I missed my heat cycle..." She watched his nose twitch, and the slow shift in his features from surprised, to fearful, to angry. "Crud!"
