Alright day three, at the last day of Etharah week. Wow I am so behind but you know what I can't say I care writing is meant to be fun and how many really stay on schedule with these sorts of challenge weeks. Just me okay; but still I've been having a lot of fun writing these prompts hopefully when Rory week comes around, I'll be on time.
Anyway, I figured most people would have written Sarah taken care of Ethan so I took the liberty of it being the other way around since in the mbav universe at least vampires can get sick, but was never expanded upon. Anyway enjoy the chapter and before I forget this all the one shots in this story take place in the Whitechapel Adventure cannon. While they're not tied directly to the main series the references are still there as I'm sure some of you noticed alright enough rambling enjoy part one of day three.

Whoever says vampires can't get sick should really consider digging deeper. Vampires are capable of getting sick just like any human; it's extremely rare, but it can happen. A rare moment when the curse weakens, causing the human body to think you've got a virus; it can last anywhere from a few days to a week to fight it off.

And if you ask Ethan, it sounds like hell. Almost as bad as dealing with vampire heat, thank God that doesn't exist, or else, god forbid, Dakota would be avoiding Sarah, Erica, and Rory like the plague. Her sex-repulsed side is both a blessing and a curse. Blessing cause she's got more self-control compared to most girls her age; curse cause she can't handle anything sexual without feeling lightheaded or uncomfortable.

But back to the matter at hand: Ethan should have seen the signs, but the way Sarah reassured him made Ethan feel he was worrying about nothing. He really wished he had listened to his instincts.

It started last week when, out of nowhere, Sarah started coughing, which soon turned into a coughing fit. Ethan was quick to get her some water and asked if she was okay. She reassured him, saying she just got a tickle in her throat and was fine, and Ethan nodded, accepting her answer, and they moved on with their day.

But a few days later, Sarah woke up with a sore throat and stuffy nose. She told Ethan it must have been allergies, but he wasn't convinced and feared Sarah was coming down with something, but she brushed him off, saying she was fine and there wasn't time to get sick, and once again went on with her day. If only she paid attention to the signs.

And that brings us to now, with Sarah lying in bed, brain foggy, and coughing up a storm.

"And you're sure she's sick?" Erica asked over the phone,

"Yes, positive." Ethan replied, "She's got a fever and can barely talk. Benny and Emily are heading to the drugstore to pick up some medicine. Do you think you can cover for Sarah this week?"

"Fine, tell her to get well soon and try not to get sick." Erica said,

"I will, and thanks; I really owe you one."

"You owe me more than one." But you're welcome; call me if you need anything." She said that and hung up as Ethan got another call.

"Hello?"

"Hey Eth, it's me. Emily told me Sarah's not feeling well. How is she?" Dakota questioned,

"Not great; her throat is sore, and she can't stop coughing. But it's odd; I thought vampires couldn't get sick."

"I thought so too; then again, Rory got sick three weeks ago." Dakota paused for a few seconds before speaking again: "Something's off. I'm getting Anastasia; maybe she knows what's happening. I'll be at your house in about an hour, okay?"

"Cool, meanwhile, I'll take care of Sarah. Hopefully this is just a 24-hour virus, and she'll be fine tomorrow."

"Let's hope so; see you in a bit." Dakota prayed, ending the call.

Ethan put his phone in his pocket and turned to Sarah, who looked up with glossy eyes.

"Hey, it's okay; you're going to be okay. Just rest; Benny and Emily are grabbing you medicine, and Dakota's coming over with Anastasia. Hopefully she knows what you've come down with."

Sarah nodded, throat too scratchy to say anything, and closed her eyes, burying herself under the covers to stay warm while Ethan went downstairs and began cooking some soup. Even if vampires don't need to eat human food anymore, Mrs. Morgan has made this family recipe since Ethan was a kid. Whenever he was sick, it always made him feel better. So why shouldn't it help Sarah? If anything, it will help soothe her sore throat.

Ethan was chopping up carrots while the water was boiling when someone knocked on the door.

"Oh, thank goodness, that better be Benny and the others." He said as he turned the heat on low and ran to open the door where Dakota, Emily, Benny, Anastasia, Mabel, and Rory were standing.

"Wow, I wasn't expecting such a huge gathering." He joked, standing aside to let his friends and the head of the vampire council in. "If I did, I would have put out some snacks."

"Yeah, yeah, here." Emily said, handing Ethan a bag of pills and cough syrup, "We didn't know what would be effective enough on a vampire body, so we got the strongest stuff we could find."

"Thanks, you two; it really means a lot. And thanks for coming, Anastasia."

"I admit I was surprised when Dakota came unannounced. But after hearing about Sarah's condition, I knew I had to come over. I'll explain everything, but first, may I see her?"

"Yes, but be quiet; she's trying to sleep." Ethan replied,

Anastasia nodded, knowing rest was the thing Sarah needed the most, and followed Ethan upstairs. The childlike vampire did several tests, from taking her temperature to feeling her forehead to doing something Ethan didn't understand but knew it must be vampire-specific.

Finally, Anastasia turned to the seer and motioned him back downstairs, making sure to quietly close the door behind them.

Dakota was the first to speak, as she jumped up when she heard their footsteps. "So, how is she?"

"I'm afraid Sarah has come down with what we call "the uncommon cold." Anastasia revealed sternly, "It's an illness that only affects supernatural beings; there's been an increase in cases lately. I'm sure most of you are aware of it since Rory came down with it a few weeks ago."

Everyone shook their heads. "Well, I knew he had a cold, but I didn't know it had a name." Ethan spoke,

"Well, I recommend reading up on supernatural illness in the future. You never know when one of you could come down with one."

"Hold on." Mabel spoke up, "Is this contagious? Like for us mortal beings?"

"No." Anastasia said simply, "You, Benny, Ethan, Dakota, and her angels should be okay. Rory and Erica, on the other hand, might want to keep their distance, just until Sarah recovers."

"That's good to know." Benny somewhat understood: "Now how about a cure? Or are we expected to let this thing run its course?"

Anastasia's eyes widened for a split second; she had a feeling one of them would ask that question their blind loyalty to Sarah, a vampire who wanted nothing to do with her own kind always fascinated her. The old vampire couldn't tell if it was very brave or very stupid. Still, it would be dishonorable to withhold information after everything this ragtag group has done for the council, not to mention Whitechapel in general. "Yes, there is, but it needs to be made from scratch." She explained pulling out an old parchment. "It's easy to make, but the ingredients will be hard to gather." I doubt even Benny's grandmother will be able to help you."

The group looked at each other and nodded in agreement. Sarah needed them; it wasn't fair to leave her suffering in silence.

"Where do we start?" Dakota asked ready for whatever challenge came their way.

"Unfortunately, the list is incomplete; it tells you what ingredients to put in the potion and how to make it, but locations have always been inconsistent."

As troubling as it was, they had a seer in their group.

"Ethan."

"I know the drill." He sighed as he grabbed the paper and let the vision run its course.

"So?" Dakota asked quietly to give Ethan a moment to breathe, "What did you see?"

"Quite a bit; you might want to write this down."

And so, with the locations written down, Dakota and her group, along with Benny and Rory, set off to find the right ingredients for Sarah's medicine.

Meanwhile, Anastasia left to return to the council since her leave was unexpected. Ethan stayed home to continue looking after Sarah and make sure his soup wouldn't burn or boil over. When he wasn't cooking, he was upstairs checking up on his girlfriend, fluffing her pillow, checking her temperature, or spraying disinfectant spray so no one else would get sick. Last thing he wanted was someone relapsing. When the rare moments came where Sarah was awake, he gave her the cough syrup Emily got. It tasted terrible, that much he knew, but it seemed to be helping. He also made some of her favorite tea to wash down the medicine flavor.

"Thank you, Ethan." She rasped,

"Shh, don't mention it. Don't strain your voice; you don't need to say anything. I've got soup cooking downstairs, and Benny and the gang are trying to find you a better cure; they should be back in a few hours, okay?"

Sarah nodded and laid back down as the cold medicine began kicking in, making her sleepy. "When it's ready, I would love to try that soup; it smells really good." She spoke as she drifted off.

At around half past twelve, Erica came over and dropped off some blood and sweets for when Sarah got better.

"She always gets a sweet tooth after recovering from a cold." She said Erica didn't stay long but did complement the soup Ethan made. She said it reminded her of childhood, and with that, she left.

Once the stew was done, Ethan poured some into a bowl to let it cool and headed upstairs to wait for Sarah to wake up. The seer was reading a book when a knock at the door shook him awake; he didn't realize he had drifted off. Quickly heading downstairs so they didn't wake Sarah, he opened the door to see his friends charred and covered in cuts and bruises.

"What happened to you guys?" He asked in shock,

"Turns out the last ingredient is a rare flower that only grows in a cave." Dakota replied dryly,

"That doesn't sound too bad."

"You don't know half of it." Mabel added, "The flower was guarded by a fire-breathing dragon. And did I mention it breathes fire?" She annunciated,

Ethan was speechless. "Those exist?!"

"You just had to be there." Benny stated sarcastically,

"And you would've been there too if you hadn't spent all day following Ethan around." Emily stated, seemingly pointing at no one,

Ethan looked at where Emily was pointing and couldn't see who she was talking about. "Who are you pointing at?"

"Nevermind, you wouldn't understand." She brushed off and invited herself inside, handing him the bag. "Here's the stuff for the potion; now, if you don't mind, I'm burying your shower."

"First bathroom is in the guest bedroom, which is right down that hall."

"Thanks."

With that out of the way, Benny began work on the potion. It took less time than expected and seemed to be going smoothly. Though considering the gang fought a living, fire-breathing dragon in his eyes, that should be enough to cut them a break.

A half-hour later, the potion was complete.

"According to this, the potion needs to be consumed with either food or a beverage." Dakota read,

"I made soup." Ethan said simply,

"You did." Benny and Rory said, and they realized there was another pot on the other burner filled with piping hot homemade stew that smelled irresistible. "Oh, that soup." Benny remembered, "Wait, is that your mom's old recipe?"

"Sure is." Ethan smiled, happy that his friend remembered it.

"I love her soup. Remember when I came down with that stomach virus? Your mom brought over a pot, and it was the only thing I could stomach. It tasted great." Benny said,

"So, are we putting the potion in Sarah's share or not?" Rory questioned,

"Yeah, I think I can manage." Ethan agreed,

Ethan put a few drops of the cure into Sarah's bowl, along with dishing up some for his friends. After all they've been through, they've earned it. Tray in hand, Ethan went to their bedroom and opened the door. "Hey Sarah."

"Hey, Ethan, is that the soup you made?"

"Yeah, we finished the potion, but it needed to be mixed in with either food or drinks." I hope you don't mind it in yours."

"Honestly, after that horrible-tasting cough syrup, I don't think I can handle having it raw."

"Good, then today's your lucky day." He smiled, placing the tray while Sarah sat up.

With that, the two just talked. The two lovers ate their dinner, which brought Ethan so many memories from his childhood days.

Eventually the bowls were empty, and Sarah laid back down, but this time she felt better.

"Thank you, Ethan, that really hit the spot. What was in it?"

"Oh, ya know the usual: carrots, celery, chicken broth, and some uncommon cold away."

The two laughed; it was great seeing the love of his life smiling again. "Well, I loved it; we should really make it more often."

"Yeah, it'll be a hit at family reunions, minus the cold." He chuckled, kissing Sarah's forehead, "Sleep; I'll do the dishes tonight."

"Thanks for taking care of me, Ethan; I'm sure it wasn't easy."

"Anything for you, my love; I'll be back in a few minutes."

"Take your time; I'll be here." Sarah hummed as she closed her eyes, so grateful Ethan was there for her while she had been stubborn all week.

"Note to self: once I'm better, I'll share some of the chocolates Erica got me." With that thought in mind, Sarah allowed her mind to drift off again, with the last thing she registered being Ethan sliding into bed and planting a kiss on her head while wrapping his arms around her.

Take a shot every time I use the word soup in this chapter. That was something I realized and tried to tone down the mention of it. But really, I like the idea of Ethan being a better cook then you'd think, plus this is based on how my dad made me and my sister's soup when we got sick during cold and flu season last year and the year before. By the way the uncommon cold concept was inspired by a side manga from the manga and anime series Toilet Bound Hanako Kun which is super cute by the way, and you should read it. The plot I'm talking about can be found in the After School Manga, I recommend it, but I would read the main books first to understand the plot and characters.

And yes, Emily's one off forth wall break is a Sonic Boom reference from the TV show where Sticks says, and I quote "That's what you get for fallowing Knuckles around." Basically, the gang got themselves in one of the most exciting and life threating missions all for a cure for the uncommon cold. I may or may not make a separate one shot based on what the heck happened. If I don't, I'll leave it up to someone else to handle that which I give you permission to do btw.
And hey I think this is the first time I've written for Anastasia she was pretty fun to write dialog for and yes if you couldn't tell is pretty good friends with Dakota believe it or not. She might be stern but she's not as heartless as the show makes her out to be. Or in my eyes she isn't.

And while this is the end of Etharah week this isn't the end of the story I'll keep posting chapters whenever they're done, I'm pretty sure I won't be posting anything else until this is at least mostly complete with that said I hope everyone is enjoying the story so far and had a great week. See you again very soon.
