By Her Side
(^^)

Fred watched as his lovely wife move through the crowd of politicians, diplomats, and wealthy peerage. She had a way about her, something graceful but forceful, that pulled people into her orbit as often as it drove people away. Her gown for the night was a shocking crimson that her brown skin made even more vivid. Her curls were pulled back from her face but allowed to fall freely over her shoulders. She had told him once that she had spent years trying to act like her hair didn't need different care and it was only Parvati almost crying at her hair care regime (or rather the lack of it) that had changed her mind.

Sometimes it just shocked him that the Hermione who was his wife was so different than the Hermione who he had first met because she had been eagerly chatting his older sibling about lessons.

He was not surprised that she was the same Hermione who had once conjured canaries to attack his younger brother for being a bit of thick-headed prat. Hm. Maybe he should send Ron another gift basket for that. He tried not to make a big deal about it—he didn't want Hermione to think he thought he had to buy her or anything like that—but he was grateful that his brother had been too blind to recognize the crush that Hermione had had on him at the time. A standing order for baskets of assorted meat and other food stuffs was a small price to pay in order to show his gratitude.

The rude jokes that he and George were able to make because Ron raved about his love of sausages were also a nice treat. Even Harry had trouble holding back giggles after a while. The memory of a heavily Fleur actually managing to summon multiple fireballs when Ron had been trying to impress her by insisting that she try his frottage was well worth the cost of replacing the divan in their living room.

Knowing that the reason that Bill rushed his wife back to there place had nothing to do with her blood pressure was less welcome, but Fred did understand what it was like to love someone who was extremely hot when all fired up. Or really, when showing off her competent way of getting virtual strangers to hand over large sums of money to a good cause.

With that in mind, Fred twirled the ornate eggplant colored umbrella he had brought as an accessory and sauntered his own way through the crowd to take his rightful place by Hermione's side.
