Perfect Day
(^^)
Hannah gave Susan a kiss under a perfectly azure sky dotted with just a few puffy white clouds as they lay upon an old quilt they had brought for this very purpose. Despite the date (early February), it was almost balmy out. That made both of the women thankful for the cooling breeze coming off the marshy waters at the mouth of the river. They were also thankful that no one else had chosen this area to watch the solar eclipse, despite the perfect view they would have of it.
Mostly, because it allowed them to exchange lazy kisses and soothing cuddles without having to worry about what anyone else might think or say or do about it. It was an unfortunate side effect of having longer lives than muggles, but the wixen world had not progressed even as far as the rest of Britain had in terms of acceptance. It didn't help that there had been a civil war happening for nearly fifty years, which influenced their laws as well as the underlying culture. Woe to anyone with the gumption to be different.
But all of that could be ignored, if only for this one perfect afternoon.
Hannah could spend it in the arms of the woman she loved as they observed a rare astrological event. They didn't need to worry about grades, having already done what they needed to take their NEWTs (both having decided to not return to Hogwarts when it reopened). Susan was mostly through her apprenticeship at the Auror Academy, though she was reconsidering how much the legacy of her aunt she wanted to uphold. She had an offer to become an Unspeakable (not that Hannah was supposed to know about that), and it was seeming like a better course of action every day. Hannah had started helping her uncle manage the Leaky Cauldron, and though she had never imagined becoming a publican when she was in school, it just felt right.
As the sun darkened from the moon moving in front of it, Hannah leaned over to give Susan another chaste kiss.
Yes, today was just perfect.
