Goddess Made Them
(^^)
Pansy and Ginny had been rivals for years, ever since they'd started competing for ghost hunting jobs in their small parish. That rivalry just expanded when they took off to other jobs across Britain and Europe. No matter what direction they went and how they tried to keep out of each other's way, they always seem to be stumbling into to the other's cases. But now, as they were stuck in a dark and dank basement together, both of them were beginning to feel something more than just rivalry.
Ginny was convinced it was probably murderous rage.
The only light came from the flashlight Pansy held, illuminating Ginny's pale face and the bluestone walls around them. Neither of them could see a way out, and the air was thick with a feeling of helplessness.
"Well, this is a mess," Pansy said with a wry smile, trying to lighten the mood. "It's your fault, of course."
Ginny ran her hands through her ponytail hair and sighed. "It's a mess, but you share equal blame."
"Whose brilliant idea was it to run towards the loud and ominous crash?"
"You didn't need to follow, you know!"
"I know," Pansy agreed quietly.
Despite the situation, Pansy couldn't help but feel a wave of butterflies in her stomach as she looked at the redhead. She had always admired the other ghost hunter if only in an aesthetic way. Pansy thought that Ginny must be feeling the same way; it was almost palpable in the room. For a few moments, both of them were silent.
Finally, Pansy spoke, her voice barely a whisper. "We should try to find a way out of here," she said.
Ginny nodded and they began to search, cautiously moving around the basement, their flashlight creating eerie shadows on the walls. As they searched, they both felt a growing sense of camaraderie, almost forgetting their rivalries in the face of this new challenge. After several hours of searching, they stumbled across a small door, half hidden behind a bookshelf they had walked past several times already. They pulled it open, feeling a wave of relief as they realized that it was the way out.
Stepping outside, they both breathed a sigh of relief. The air was suddenly less heavy and they couldn't help but look at each other with admiration. Pansy's heart raced as she realized that the feelings she had for Ginny were mutual. With one shared glance, they both knew their rivalry was a thing of the past.
They kissed under the light of the full moon by the little duck pond that was near the house. In the distance, the clock tower in town began to announce that it was midnight of St. Brigid's day. Unbeknownst to the pair, a woman with hair that was the same burnt orange as Ginny's was watching their first kiss with a gentle smile on her beautiful face.
Then she faded out of sight.
