Chapter One
Hi, I know I keep posting new stories but I'll be updating my other stories as fast as I can. I've wanted to write about this topic for a while, since episode 18 ended actually.
"Alright, Trav. That's everyone." Andy and Travis were working on getting everyone out of the hole where the floor collapsed. "Trav, you hear me?" Andy tried to get his attention and when she turned around to face him he saw that he was sitting down, head in his hands so she walked over. "Trav, you did everything you could." Andy put a hand on his shoulder. "You did what you could." She watched him nod. "Come on, let's get out of here." Andy grabs one of his hands and pulls him up.
"You first, Cap," Travis told Andy, gesturing for her to go up first.
"Nah. you go. You need to go and drink some water. I'll be right up after you." Travis looked like he wanted to protest. "Go, Trav, You can help to clear anyone else who is still injured up there too."
"Fine. Don't be far behind me." Travis went up to the ladder and began climbing. Once he got up he called that she was safe to come up. Andy grabbed the med bag that was left in all the debris and put it on her back and started to climb up. She was halfway up when she felt the ladder start to shake and the next thing she saw was the ladder falling backwards when some more of the floor collapsed with it.
A scream rang through the room, alerting everyone that something was wrong and they all turned to look at the hole in the room. They ran to the edge and saw Andy, eyes closed, the ladder on top of her.
"Andy!" Travis called. "Guys, get a ladder on the other side of this hole, we gotta get down there!" Travis, being reckless, hung onto the edge of the floor and just jumped down, not being able to wait. "Guys, she's barely breathing, hurry up!" Travis covered his mouth, trying not to tear up, "Please Andy, please hold on. You just made captain. You gotta stay alive." Travis feels a hand on his shoulder.
"Trav, here." Vic handed him an oxygen tank. He makes quick work of that. Jack and Maya make their way down to help, bringing a backboard down with them.
"Trav, we can't do anything else down here. Help us get her on the backboard." Maya asked, laying it next to Andy. The four of them work on getting Andy strapped onto the backboard.
"Hey, Sullivan." Sullivan appears by the ladder. "Help us lift her."
The five of them all work to get her up and get her onto a gurney. Vic puts two fingers to Andy's pulse point on her neck and when she feels her point slowing.
"We gotta go, her pulse is falling," Vic said, rushing along the gurney with Travis and Maya, alerting Warren and Carina who had just come into the room, both looking shocked but Warren decided to follow along.
As they were rushing past people they faintly heard Ross talking to Sullivan. "She just became captain of her house, Sully. She has to be okay." Vic and Travis swallowed and moved faster, rushing past the crowd.
Once they got to the aid car they loaded her in and Ben checked for a pulse, again. Wanting to be cautious.
"She just became captain. This is a day she's been waiting for for years and this happens? Ben, what the hell did Andy do to deserve all the trauma she's faced the past few years?" Vic asked, rhetorically. "She was finally smiling a real smile tonight, Ben. Even with Theo not being supportive and the awkwardness at the table earlier."
Ben sighs, "I know, Vic. She's going to be okay." Warren looks over Andy, checking her wounds. "Obviously she has cuts all over her legs and arms, and the cut on her head that may need stitches, but I can't tell if anything is broken or fractured right now."
Vic nodded and Travis called out that they were two minutes out from Grey-Sloan. When they got there they were met by Schmitt, Amelia, Link, and surprisingly Meredith.
"Oh, my god, Herrera." Meredith had shock written on her face, "I knew there was the accident at the ball but I thought everyone inured was already here. I also thought Herrera was in command."
Vic responded. "She was. She was helping another member of our team when the floor collapsed again." Meredith frowned and nodded her head.
"We can talk about details later. Get her into trauma two." Amelia told them, putting her personal feelings for Andy aside while she looked at the head wound Andy suffered. "Okay, this looks superficial so I'll clean it up now and then you can do an ultrasound, Schmitt/" Amelia told the team, grabbing the supplies needed to clean the wound, and putting in a few stitches since the cut ended up being worse than she originally thought. "Alright, all done. Go ahead and start the ultrasound now Schmitt."
Schmitt became the ultrasound and moved the wand over her stomach and chest. "No internal bleeding, no cracked or broken ribs. Lungs are fine too." Schmitt told the group.
Next up was Link after Amelia and Schmitt left the room. Meredith and Link are the last two in the room.
"Link, do you see anything out of the ordinary?" Meredith asked.
"So far I'm seeing a lot of cuts and bruises, no fractures or breaks on either arm or wrist but I want to grab a portable X-ray machine just in case." Meredith nods as Link goes out of the room.
"Oh, Herrera. We gotta stop meeting like this." Meredith breathed out, brushing back some hair that fell on Andy's face. "Just wake up soon. I need to tell you something before I catch my flight in the morning."
Link comes back into the room with the X-ray machine and scans over Andy's arms and legs. He's scanning around her ankles when he sees some discoloration.
"Shit."
"What is it? How bad?" Meredith asked, moving to where Link was. He showed her the X-ray, pointing out what he saw. "Damnit. It's broken, isn't it?" Meredith brings a hand through her hair and sighs. "I'll go grab supplies and be right back." Link nods and prepares her ankle.
Meredith comes back a few minutes later, arms full of supplies.
"Alright, Grey, can you help me out with this?"
"Of course." Meredith sets the equipment on a table and hands it to Link as he needs them. It takes them some time to get it on, Andy stirring in the process, Meredith moved to pump some more morphine, knowing how much pain she would be in if she woke up to them doing this. "Alright, so we let it dry now, right?" Link nods. "What colours can we put on it?"
Link grabs the box with the wraps in it. "Blue, purple, green, red and black. Any idea which she would want?"
"I've never asked, let me go ask one of her teammates." Meredith walked out of the room and to the group. The group of firefighters all stood up. "I'm sorry guys, I just have a quick question." Meredith watched them calm down and nod.
"What is it?" Travis asked.
"What's Andy's favourite colour?"
The firefighters looked at each other, confused, before it clicked for Warren. "Arm or leg?"
Meredith swallowed, "It's her left ankle. It's broken."
Vic wipes a tear that fell, hating this for her friend. "Blue. She'd be fine with blue."
Meredith nodded and turned to go back into the room.
"They said Blue would be fine. I'll wrap it around. You can go Link." Meredith told him. "Thank you for helping." Link nods and grabs all the supplies and X-ray before walking out.
Meredith worked quickly, wrapping the cast in a few minutes and she sighed. And now to get her friends she thinks.
Meredith comes out of the room and gestures for Travis, Warren and Vic to come in. "Why are only three of you here? Where's everyone else?"
"Still at the scene. There was still a lot of cleaning up to do, especially since the floor collapsed a second time."
Meredith nodded. "You guys are allowed to go in now." Vic and Travis rush into the room while Warren stayed back.
"Shouldn't you be in Boston right now?" Ben asked Meredith.
"I could ask you the same thing."
"We were on our way to the airport when my phone started to light up. I checked it and Miranda turned us around." Meredith nodded.
"Well, I needed to check on a couple of patients before I left, I was going to catch a flight in the morning. I was done my rounds when you guys came in with victims from the ball." she watched Ben nod. "I gotta go get my things and then I'll be back in a few minutes." Ben nods again and turns to go into the room.
"So it's her head and ankle that are the serious injuries, otherwise she just has some bumps and bruises." Vic listed off.
"Seems like it." Ben agreed. "Meredith will be back in a few minutes so she can tell us if there are any injuries we can't see."
"There aren't." Amelia walked into the room, making the three firefights turn around. "The head wound isn't anything to be worried about. It's more superficial than anything else. The cuts and bruises are just that, no internal bleeding and then the broken ankle. Will have her in that cast for 6 weeks." Amelia listed off.
"Alright, thanks, Dr. Shepherd," Travis replied.
"No worries. I just wanted to come and check on her, make sure everything was still okay. Seeing as it is I'll be going now. Visiting hours are only for another couple of hours so you all need to leave soon, okay?" Amelia watches them nod and walks out.
It was a few minutes later when Ben said that he needed to go and find Miranda. Travis and Vic say bye to him and turn back to Andy.
"I swear, this captain of yours is going to be the cause of why my life ends up being shorter than it should be." Meredith didn't realize she said that aloud and was surprised when Vic and Travis turned around in shock to look at her. "What's with the shocked looks? Herrera's a close friend and I see her more injured than when we go and hang out with others."
"Okay, true." Vic chuckled. "She has been injured a lot lately."
"Not my fault Beckett was a shit captain, missing things at scenes constantly," Andy told them, waking up, moaning in pain.
Should Andy be in a relationship in this story? If so, Vic, Sullivan, or some random character I make up?
