Chapter Ninety-Five: Public Display of Affection
Kagome wrung her hands together nervously.
She'd watched Glitter Bomb's show many times growing up, but never once did she think she'd actually be on it.
Touya wrapped his arm around her shoulders as he pulled her against his chest.
"Do I look that nervous?" She sighed against him.
His lips pulled into a smile, "Babe, you look positive terrified." He gestured towards the screen that showed the current occupants of the stage. "Your friends and sister are out there already so no need to panic. It's not like we'll be alone."
Kikyou, Kagura, Kanna and Sango were all nestled on a couch together. The women carried on a pleasant conversation with the host as they each regaled Glitter Bomb with how their lives had gone for them since they'd graduated.
Kagome watched as pictures of Kikyou, Shuichi and Hoshi were displayed in the background followed by the soft Aw's of the crowd. Afterwards an image of Sango and Kagura exploring a cave together had been placed front and center. The two women seemed exceptionally close to one other and it was when the third picture of them kissing that Kagome received confirmation of their relationship. While she'd been in close contact with the girls since they'd graduated, they'd done their best to keep their relationship with one another secret. She didn't want to pry but she had a sneaky suspicion that Sango's more traditional family was the root cause for their decision to remain quiet. The final set of images was that of Kanna and Miroku together on their wedding day. Apparently after the final Sports Festival they'd met up again during college and started to fall for each other. Everything else had happened naturally.
"Now ladies and gentlemen," Glitter Bomb rose from her seat.
Kagome sucked a breath between her lips as the staff motioned for them to start making their way onto the stage.
"I know you all have been dying to know what's become of everyone's favorite couple." Glitter Bomb then showcased a series of highlights from their time taking part in the Sports Festival at U.A. "Well it just so happens that we've managed to contact them."
The crowd let out a gasp of excitement while the hostess held her silence for dramatic effect.
"That's right, people! We actually have them in the studio today! Touya! Kagome! Why don't you two come out and say hello?" The woman gave a wide motioning movement of her arm, signaling for them to approach.
Touya took her hand as he led her onto the brightly lit stage. Kagome fought the urge to cover her eyes but Touya pulled her beside him, carefully blocking her eyes from the harsh stage lights.
The crowd let loose a wild cheer when they took in Touya's unscarred appearance.
He helped her into her seat on an opposite two-seater couch from where the rest of their friends sat.
"My, my quite the difference time has made!" Glitter Bomb smiled at them cheerfully. "Would you mind telling us how this," She made a wave motion around her face. "Happened."
Touya curled his arm around the back of her seat, "You can thank this one. Turns out she's got a pretty neat quirk."
"Oh really? What's it called?" Glitter Bomb quirked a brow in curiosity.
"I call it Magic Puss—"
Kagome swiftly clapped a palm over his mouth before he could finish his sentence.
However the damage was done and the audience began to roar with laughter.
"Don't say that on live television!" Her tone pitched several octaves higher.
The hostess shot them a look, "Now I have to know the details on this." She folded her legs over one another and leaned forward in her seat expectantly, eliciting another round of laughter from the crowd.
Touya grinned as he plied her hand from his mouth, "We got married the day after graduation."
Images that the photographers had snapped of their wedding flashed on the screen. The laughter quickly shifted into gasps of excitement and soft 'Aw's'. The cooing grew even louder when an image of herself, Touya, Shouto and Rin were featured together with Rin throwing flower petals at the camera.
"After we had our first night together, we woke up the next morning and my face was like this." He made the same circular motion towards himself.
Glitter Bomb grinned at her, "That's quite the quirk! It sounds like it only functions during certain activities."
Was it possible to just melt into the floor and disappear?
"We don't know for sure, so that's just our assumption. Plus we think that I have to want to heal someone for it to work." Kagome carefully left off the part where she'd healed Himiko's cheek.
While she didn't mind giving the works an update on their lives, she also didn't want to make herself seem like a good target to kidnap. Making her power sound as unreliable as possible was her best bet.
"Now everyone wants to know, what's happened since the time you graduated until now? Touya I know you turned down the opportunity to become a pro hero, so if you don't mind, what'd you end up doing instead?" The hostess questioned.
Her husband leaned back in his seat, "I went through the Police Academy and became a patrol officer. Right now I've been doing a lot of case work with Hawks."
As expected, the crowd went wild at the very mention of the number three hero's name.
Glitter Bomb then turned her attention to her, "I hope you know how jealous I am right now."
Kagome laughed along with the audience that time.
"Hawks likes to have dinner at the house a lot. He's currently trying to oust Shouto for the position of favorite uncle." She commented.
Almost immediately the people picked up on the reference and zeroed in.
"Uncle? You two have kids now?" The hostess glanced between them in shock.
"We have five." Kagome pressed her palm against the back of her neck. "Three boys and two girls. Two sets of them are fraternal twins."
"I was hoping for an even number but you can only strike the twin gene so many times." Touya smirked, "This one here cut me off after our last son was born so that's it."
"If we kept going then we'd add more than half of Japan's population into the world before I'd have hit the end of my child bearing years." She shot back at him playfully.
Carefully picked images of their children were shown on screen. They'd purposefully chosen pictures that were several months old and a few others back when the first twins were newborns. The soft cooing from the crowd only grew louder.
"Do they all get along?" Glitter Bomb peered up at the pictures, her face lighting up with joy.
"Not at all." She and Touya echoed together.
"The girls are chaos and destruction incarnate while their big brothers like to set the house on fire." Touya gave a heavy sigh, "The only ones that can get along worth a damn are Hina and her cousin Hoshi."
That time a picture of the two girls wearing the same Elsa dress during their last Christmas get together was shown.
"You ought to have seen the repair bill for the house after the girls got into a fight." Touya shook his head, "It nearly gave me a heart attack."
"How did you pay for that? It couldn't have been easy and trying to support a family of seven on an officer's salary seems difficult." Glitter Bomb's brows pinched with concern.
"Yeah babe, how did we afford that?" His lips curled into a teasing smirk.
Oh he was not going to drag that out of her!
"Absolutely not!" She glowered at him, "Do you want to sleep on the couch tonight?"
The hostess then shot her a pointed look, one that she knew to mean that she wouldn't give up until she got her answers.
The woman opened her hand and curled her fingers in towards her palm repeatedly in a grabbing motion.
"Spill it," She did it again. "Spill it all!"
Kagome growled at her husband beneath her breath. He merely shrugged his shoulders and tried to keep himself from laughing.
"I've written a few books." She tried to remain vague.
"She's only written the most popular smut novels in existence." Touya laughed when she nudged his side with her elbow.
"Hold up, you mean that series?" Glitter Bomb's eyes widened with shock as an image of her smut novel was shown on the screen.
Kagome covered her face with her palms and shook her head.
By now even the women across from them were roaring in excitement and laughter.
"No wonder you two have so many kid!" The hostess gave Kagome a playful smirk, "With sex like that every day, I wouldn't want to stop either." The other woman leaned forward in her seat, "I gotta know, what's your secret?"
Kagome glanced at Touya.
"It's simple really. All I needed was the Kama Sutra and an experimental husband willing to help me with my research." Kagome grinned as he finally started to flush at the insinuation. Two could play at that game.
As the conversation continued on for the next hour, Kagome had taken turns with the rest of the girls on set going over the different events going on in their lives.
Eventually the topic turned to their family.
"I know all of you have had tumultuous relationships with your families. So could you tell me how things have turned out?" The hostess questioned.
Touya went first, "As you know my old man struggled a lot to be a good husband and father. My mom divorced him recently and she's been an amazing help with the kids. Honestly she's been our rock since before we'd even gotten married." He continued, "We have my siblings over at the house a lot. Shouto likes being the favorite uncle and yes recently gotten into U.A.'s hero course." Kagome noticed the strong sense of pride in the man's expression when he spoke of his youngest brother. "As for my dad, he's an awkward idiot but he loves his grandkids. He's actually watching them right now with Kagome's guardian."
Glitter Bomb then turned her attention to her, "Speaking of, I'm so glad to see that you and your sister have reconciled your differences after everything that's happened." The woman's brows furrowed with concern, "Are either of you in contact with your parents?"
Kagome shook her head, "No. we don't have a biological father and we but cut off contact with our mother."
Kikyou continued after her, "Our mother was the reason our relationship with each other had been so strained. She did many other things that we won't discuss here but it'd be easier to say that she won't be forgiven any time soon."
Kagome nodded her head in agreement.
After her role in the fiasco with Inuyasha, neither of them had wanted anything to do with that vile woman.
"Sesshoumaru has been the closest thing to a father I'd ever had and Rin is too adorable to not consider as a younger sister." She smiled widely at the memory of Rin dancing around her during the wedding. "Jaken is like a cantankerous old grandfather but he's reliable and we love him."
Kagome slipped her fingers in between Touya's, "We have everything we could have ever asked for and more. As for what we think about our lives right now, I'd say that we're the happiest we've ever been."
She tipped her head up to meet his gaze, "I will never regret marrying you."
The crowd gushed as she felt Touya lean down and capture her lips with his own.
She leaned into his warmth, not caring that they were still on live television.
Her eyes drifted closed as the sound of the audience cheering faded away.
This was the future she'd always dreamed of.
