Jessie wouldn't let a day go by without visiting her dad… she'd talk to him about everything and nothing and find that her siblings and mom would come out as well to join her in their talks. Sometimes they'd talk as a family while other times like today she'd go alone and just have a one on one daughter to father conversation.
She never really felt she got anything back that is until one day when she was really down from an event that happened at school.
She'd been suspended from an activity just for being a mutant by their teacher who was very anti mutant, hearing of this her mom quickly went to work toward fixing that so there wouldn't be anymore incidents and the woman was transferred somewhere else that wasn't so close to the mansion anymore. But Jessie was still hurting from it, so after a good danger room session she went out to his grave and just laid there, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"I wish you were still here, I loved when we could just…"
She trailed off as memories of them dealing with things in their own way passed through her mind. She loved thinking of those times, but now it felt like the memories were just taunting her, letting her know what was no more… She hit the ground several times in anger then sat up.
"Dammit! Why'd you have to leave? You made life better for all of us, not just me and the kids and mom, I hate you!" She yelled, then got up walking away in a huff, she went into the woods.
She didn't know how much time had passed when she stopped. There was a good-sized oak tree about 20 feet in front of her, so she decided to go to it and sit in one of the higher branches. Like her parents she found a lot of peace in nature. Deciding to obey her body she laid herself out on the branch letting herself drift off for a nap.
She woke up to the feeling of the wind running through her hair like a playful child's hands. After enjoying the feel of it for a while she sat up letting the suns rays warm her up. Sensing a presence around her she looked in all directions. Nothing, even with her super keen sight she didn't sense anything around her. The wind rustled her hair as if playing with it.
"Hey, stop." She said to the breeze which died down a moment later. But oddly when it stopped, there was a heaviness, like it was sad that she didn't want it to persist.
"You're not usually sad." She said to the air.
"What's wrong?" She asked,
"I just wanted to be near ya again." Hearing the voice, she jumped almost knocking herself off the branch, looking around she saw the source. The image of the man she'd had the one sided argument with earlier greeted her with a smile, he shoved himself from the branch landing on the ground with no sound whatsoever.
"D-dad!?" She asked not believing her senses. He smiled back to her.
"You ok kid?" He asked her, before he could do anything else she was smothering him in a hug that was tight enough to even dent Colossus' metal frame.
"How? How are you here?" She asked with tears in her eyes.
"I thought I'd come see how you're doing." She stood there dumbly as he answered her question,
"Why'd you have to leave dad? We all miss you like hell!" She asked the smile on his face disappeared and was replaced with a look of sadness.
"I don't know why… I didn't want to leave ya."
There was silence between them for the next few seconds as she just held onto him and he to her.
"So, where are you now?" She asked scared to hear the answer but at the same time she needed to know where she could see him again.
"Heaven." She looked at him shocked expecting to hear the other place.
"I guess… the cry I made to Him worked." He finished.
"So, you're not in… the other place, down there?" She asked.
"No." He answered back simply.
"Good." She said her voice cracking at the end of the word.
"Had a hard day huh." He said changing the subject, she looked at him then responded.
"How'd you figure that out?" She asked though knowing how he knew.
"Just felt it on ya." He responded, she nodded looking grim,
"What happened?"
"School bullshit." She responded, he looked to her sucking in his lips slightly.
"How'd ya handle it?" He asked she looked up then sighed loudly wanting to respond with an annoyed 'What do you think? You're not here to help me!' but decided against it, he was here and she didn't know how long he was going to stay. Dwelling on the last thought she held onto him again.
"I don't know, don't really care anymore."
"Hm." He responded.
"I got booted from an activity for being a mutant." She continued, he gave her a side look that said no she didn't.
"I think she's racist to."
"PE?"
"Yeah. Hey when you leave…" She stopped her words tearing a hole in her soul.
"Can you haunt her for me?" She felt his hearty chuckle against her chest.
"Don't know if He'll let me up there… besides it's amazing up there." He said smiling to her.
"So… you don't want to come back… even if you could?" She asked trying to control her emotions, the wind and clouds responded to her mood though just like with her mom.
"If I could come back an live here for the rest o' your moms life I would. But… my healin' even before I left was failin, ya know I would be with ya if I could."
"You wouldn't want to live for the rest of our lives to?" She asked unprepared to hear his previous statement.
"Ya know I would cub." He retorted, she looked at him not understanding.
"I can't explain it little one." He finished.
She would've asked him if he visited the others but she was being selfish. She loved her dad since she first saw him when she was born, not to say that her siblings and mom loved him any less but she'd known him longer than any of them, except her mom of course, but she could be selfish. She had no shame in it.
The wind picked up again, sensing the shift in atmosphere he looked to a spot not too far away then to her.
"I have to go spark." He said solemnly, her eyes watered and the skies darkened.
"Did you say hi to mom?" She asked quickly hoping to keep him there.
"Yeah." He responded feeling her hold tighten.
"What about Evan, you know he really needs his dad, so does Kendall, Ayotunde to!" He smiled tightly to her closing his eyes painfully, he then looked over to the invisible figure that awaited him, then the being turned his head upward listening for instructions. He then shook his head to the man signaling that it was now or never.
"Tell them I said I love you an give em hugs for me." He said as he started to fade.
"Don't leave me, please!" She said in a cry.
His expression fell from somber to sad as he knew he didn't have a choice in this matter, the messenger was waiting for him and though she couldn't see him even if she looked hard. He hugged her tight this time, tighter than he had in a very long time.
"I love you my little Darlin'. If you need me, I'll be there." He said just before the young woman lost her balance, she fell forward not together enough to catch herself this time, the man she was holding onto, or rather the spirit of the man carried away into the wind. There was nothing where he was now, just empty air.
"Da-haddy!" She cried one last time as she knew he was gone for good this time. Rain lashed out from the sky as she whaled in pain.
Back on the grounds dark amber eyes watched the rain hearing the cry through the booming thunder, pained tears ran down her face, they burned as it felt as if acid was pouring from her eye sockets. Why when she cried it felt this way she didn't know; she guessed it was probably some form of old pain being released in amounts that the human body wasn't built for and thus this happened.
"Guess that's why ya said not to hold it in huh…" The woman said to the open air, it didn't serve any purpose really, just some of her dads quirky humor that was momentarily misplaced. She sat on the now soaked ground, not doing anything but letting broken sobs tear out of herm her system in agony.
Watching from the window the former acclaimed weather goddess knew what happened… she wanted to join into the tears, but at the same time she knew that it would add stress to everything. She was very strong, stronger than most gave her credit for.
Normal people would crumble and shatter at loss, or even slight heartbreak. But Ororo. It was her that they were taking the example from when the first person ever wrote in any book "take it like a champ". That's all she could do.
When her parents died she cried and mourned of course, that was when her powers first surfaced, it pained her to think that maybe they'd be alive if she hadn't caused such a horrible storm when she'd seen them dead beside her. Since then, no real emotion.
Her first breakup and she expressed a little but swallowed the rest down, even convincing some that she didn't even love the poor man because of how emotionless she seemed.
When friends left her, died, or betrayed her she swallowed that down to, telling herself that the safety of the population was more important than her comfort or wellbeing even.
Time and time again she put herself through that torture not thinking twice about it… Then along came the handsome nettle like enigma of a man that she married, he agreed with her in some ways that she had to keep herself in check, but in many other ways he urged her to free herself from the binds that she shackled herself with.
"Yer strong enough darlin' I know ya are."
He would say to her, sometimes in the danger room, sometimes on missions, sometimes in bed. It was one thing that made her love him more than anyone else. He loved and cared about her, her well-being, and her being in general. Not her image, status, or anything else surface like everyone else did.
When he gave her the necklace that served to do the exact thing she hadn't been able to do, it was the expression of just how much love he had for her. But that was becoming an issue as well, every time she saw it she thought of him, and it hurt. She pulled up her shields again every time she thought about it because she knew that she needed to be ready. For anything.
She wasn't just some tranquil city woman who could lay in bed all day and cry her heart out whenever she wanted. She was Storm. One of the most powerful mutants alive. If she wanted to she could destroy an entire continent without too much thought. And Only God knows when they'd be needed for whatever was coming their way.
"You know I love you dear heart." She said as she held the hanging piece of jewelry around her neck.
"I will never stop." She brought it to her mouth kissing it then holding it to her chest.
