The next morning, Tsuna decides not to tell her cousin about her night visitor, so as not to worry her. As the two of them eat breakfast - Uncle Ichiro and Aunt Sumiko already left for work - Kana mentions that she wants to introduce her to her friends.
"The ones that are part of Kiyojūji Paranormal Investigation Squad?" Tsuna asks. She remembers being surprised at hearing that Rikuo-kun and Kana-chan are a part of that group in yesterday's conversation before bed. For as long as she knew them, Kana was always afraid of the supernatural, and Rikuo avoided talking about yokai altogether.
And yet, here they are, being part of the group that searched for the ayakashi.
It was a bit funny. Not to mention ironic.
Kana nods, unaware of the thoughts that ran through her cousin's head in that moment. "Yeah. They can be a bit much, especially Kyotsugu-kun, but they are good people."
"I would love to meet them," the brunette says. She takes a sip of her tea. "Where are we meeting up?"
"In a park, in about an hour."
So after breakfast, they go there.
When they arrive at the meeting place, most of the Squad is already here.
"Oh, it seems we have a new face!" the black-haired boy says loudly when he sees the cousins approach their group. "Are you going to introduce us, Ienaga-kun?"
"Of course. Everyone, meet my cousin Sawada Tsunami."
"Call me Tsuna," Tsuna adds shyly.
"It's nice to meet you, Tsuna-chan," the only girl with orange, nearly blonde hair, says."I'm Maki Saori."
"And I'm Torii Natsumi," the dark-haired girl beside Saori says."We heard so much about you from Kana-chan."
"Nura too," the boy with blond hair snickers, causing Tsuna to blush. Thankfully no one comments on it, and the boys introduce themselves last.
"Well as the leader, I have to say it," Kyotsugu spoke once introductions were over. " Welcome Kiyojūji Paranormal Investigation Squad, Sawada-kun! We hope you'll feel comfortable with us."
"I hope so too. Thank you for having me," Tsuna smiled, feeling the warmth at the acceptance.
She has the feeling they would be good friends in the future.
Just as Kiyotsugu is about to ask something, there is a voice calling to them:
"Sorry, we're late!" Tsuna turns with the others to see Rikuo-kun running up to them with a pretty girl. "Hey Tsu," he greets her once they are near.
"Hey," she greets warmly in return. She glances at her childhood friend's companion. "And you are…?"
"I'm Oikawa Tsurara," the girl introduces herself. "It's an honor to meet you, Sawada-san."
"Likewise," Decimo says. She isn't completely sure, but she feels an aura around Tsurara, faint as it was. It reminds her of a chilly winter day.
Could she be a Snow Flame user? Tsuna thinks to herself. Or one of those yokai Grandpa told us about yesterday? Or I'm just being paranoid?
"Okay squad!" Kiyotsugu's boisterous voice snaps Tsunami out of her thoughts. "Now that everyone is here, we can go and search for the yokai!"
"Um, Kiyotsugu-kun," Rikuo says nervously. "I'm not sure Tsuna-chan would like searching for the ayakashi on her second day in the town."
"Nonsense, Nura-kun," the black-haired boy brushed off. "Since she's part of the squad now, she needs to participate in our activities. Plus, maybe we will meet the Lord of Pandemonium himself!"
"Y-yeah, maybe," Rikuo agrees. Tsuna notices how he became even more nervous at the mention of the Lord of Pandemonium, but doesn't say anything.
So they go to whatever destination Kyotsugu has in mind. Tsuna and end up at the back of the group.
"Sorry about Kiyotsugu-kun," he says to her, sheepish. "He can be overwhelming sometimes."
"It's fine," Tsuna assures him. "That's just the way he is. In fact, he reminds me of Gokudera-kun in that way," she says. Her brown eyes turn fond at the mention of her loyal Storm." When Gokudera-kun is passionate about something he talks about it non-stop if you ask him about the subject he loves."
"Gokudera-kun?" Rikuo repeats curiously."Who's that?"
"He's family, " Tsuna says, and proceeds to tell Rikuo about her Guardians and the shenanigans they were usually up to.
The conversation lasts until they reach their destination.
They don't find the Lord of Pandemonium or any yokai to Kiyotsugu's disappointment, but Tsuna had fun anyway.
"Is it just me or have you gotten less clumsy, Tsuna-chan?" Rikuo asks on the way back. He watches Tsuna jump from one rock to the other with grace. Before, she would have tripped a thousand times on such a bumpy road.
Tsuna turns to face her childhood friend."I am! It seems I finally regained my sense of balance."
Ironically, as she said this, her foot slipped off the rock. Luckily, before Tsuna could fall, Rikuo caught her by her wrist, pressing her against his chest.
"Whoops," Tsuna feels her cheeks pinken in embarrassment. "Spoke too soon."
"Yeah," Rikuo agrees. He stretches his lips in a smirk, the one that is usually seen in his yokai form. "But I'm not complaining."
"I can see that. Since then did you become this cheeky?"
Neither of them notices the jealous glare of certain Yuki-Onna that was aimed at them.
Later that night, Tsuna calls her friends via video call.
"So how your vacation is going, Tsuna?" Yamamoto asks. He isn't the only one in the room All of her Guardians are present. Even Mukuro and Hibari. Miracle of miracles that the room is intact with the two of them here.
"It's going great! How are you guys doing?"
"Well, ex-Arcobaleno is putting us through some training to "keep us busy until our Sky returns'" Mukuro mimics Reborn by air quoting his words. "Speaking of which when are you returning, Tsunami-chan? Your puppy suffers from separation anxiety, kufufu."
"I'm not a puppy and it's not separation anxiety. Shut up, pineapple head!" Gokudera snaps at his fellow Guardian - who only let out his trademark " kufufu" in response - before addressing Tsuna:
"Are you sure you don't want us near, Tenth?" Gokudera asks worriedly. "Who knows what danger lurks in Ukiyoe? It's rumored to be a spot for yokai activity after all."
"I'm sure, Gokudera-kun. Stay where you are. And who told you such a silly thing? Yokai don't exist," her Hyper Intuition flares up, signaling she had a visitor. "I need to go. Don't wreak too much havoc and don't believe in silly rumors, Gokudera-kun. I'll call you guys soon."
Her Guardians say their goodbyes and she disconnects the call. Then, she turns in the swivel chair and says in the direction of the open window:
"You can come out now."
For a moment, nothing happens. Then black smoke parts to reveal the ayakashi boy from yesterday.
Primo was right. He really did come again.
"You are not gonna burst into fire again, are you?" he asks warily as if misspoken word would cause Tsuna to turn him into ashes.
"No, I won't do it unless you try to hurt my family. You are not planning on it, are you?" she asks him in a low voice as her eyes flash amber in a warning.
"I don't hurt humans," the yokai replies in a hard tone. "And I don't plan on starting to. Your family is safe with me."
He was sincere in his words, she could tell. Believing him, Tsuna relaxes - she sees him doing the same - and asks:
"Since it's clear you're sticking around, let's get each other's names. I'm Sawada Tsunami. And what's your name, ayakashi-kun?"
The yokai chuckles in reply as if she said some inner joke she wasn't privy to when she used this form of address. When his mirth subsides, he says:
"Well, aren't you are a funny one, Tsuna. As for my name…" he pauses for a second. "You can call me Yoru."
