AN: Not a chapter, but an interlude of Tenth Gen being idiots without Tsuna while she has her childhood romance. Featuing the creation of Plan Chaperone, gossipy DC and Reborn that has a headache. Hope you don't mind and enjoy this interlude that happens while our lovebirds are having their romance.
Reborn is a being of chaos. He thrives on it, enjoys it, and he's pretty proud that Tenth Generation is a chaos like him as well, Tsuna's exasperated shrieks always a bonus to the show.
Now though he is far from proud as he looks at the moping teenagers.
"I still don't understand why you didn't let us come along with Jyuudaime, Reborn-san," Gokudera says, petulant. The others, except Chrome, grumble their agreement in one form or the other.
"Because," he repeats for that feels like the nth time and this is only the first day, dear God, "Tsuna asked for this specifically, and she doesn't ask for much. Sometimes Sky needs a break from its' Guardians. Besides, while Tsuna can handle you, who says her cousin's family can? Ukiyoe is no Namimori, your shenanigans won't be taken in stride there and Tsuna will be disappointed in you."
"Our dearest Hayato-kun is just worried Tsunami-chan will find someone else to be her knight in shining armor and he won't be needed anymore, kufufu," Mukuro cackles at the scalding look Gokudera sents his way at the remark.
"As if you weren't afraid of the same thing, pineapple head," Hibari notes with a yawn from where he was, his head in Chrome's lap while Lambo is in her arms, taking a nap.
"Kyoya-kun,"Mukuro murmurs, voice smooth like silk, a sign of danger. Before he can start a fight or reach for his trident though, Reborn intervenes.
"I see you have too much time on your hands if you have time to mope and needle each other," the ex-Arcobaleno says casually, but nobody misses how he strokes his gun, a subtle hint to stop fooling around or suffer the consequences, "so why don't you do something useful, like train for example, hm?"
Everybody knows it isn't a suggestion after the year with the hitman, so they get up to get ready for training, not daring to cross him at the moment. After all, they still remembered the utter defeat at his hands during Arcobaleno trials. He was cursed then. Who knew what he would do in his true form?
None of them wanted to find out. Not even Mukuro and Kyoya.
Reborn, for his part, follows after them like a shepherd to make sure they won't fight while he isn't looking.
And this is the infamous Tenth Generation, second coming of Primo and his Guardians that stopped many crises. Acting like lost puppies without their Sky.
Hormonal teenagers, the lot of them. With the exception of Lambo and Chrome, of course. They at least - the brat too even though he missed Tsuna terribly - along with Fuuta and the girls understood that Tsuna needed a break.
Unlike these idiots.
Reborn withheld a sigh because the Greatest Hitmen did not sigh out loud. Look after them while I'm gone, she said. And now he's stuck playing the nanny until Tsuna returns because he cares about her that much.
Like she's his daughter. Which is true, but he won't say it out loud.
Seriously, the things he does for this girl.
One of the many conditions for Guardians-and-Reborn free vacation was regular video calls and Tsuna held up her end of the bargain. That, and Reborn's hellish training kept the boys placated somewhat. Reborn even started to hope the situation would act as a lesson that while you are a team, you also needed to work separately without the Sky to guide you.
Unfortunately, Reborn's hopes went straight outta the window one day.
The day of the date.
"Thank you, Chrome! You're the best. See you!"
"Wait, Tenth-!" Gokudera starts, but their Boss just disconnects the call. "Tch! A date! Tenth got a date! With some guy!"
"Not just some guy, apparently, he's a "dear friend" of hers, Mukuro says, mocking the words. He turns to his fellow illusionist. "Chrome, dear, have you heard about him before?"
"No. And even if I did, I wouldn't have told you!" Chrome tells them firmly. "These things are told in confidence! Besides, this is Boss' personal business, not ours!"
"Wait, wait!" Takeshi cuts in. "So we don't know the guy's name and who he is. This is bad. Why not just ask Nana-san then? Surely she'll know."
"As nice Nana-san is, this is something that requires a personal approach, Yamamoto," Ryohei tells his fellow Guardian seriously, voice not super loud for once.
"I hate to say it, but lawn-head is right," Gokudera agrees, ignoring Ryohei's indignant "Hey!" "Nana-sama considers everyone nice, but the guy is unknown. What if he's an idiot? Or worse, like Hibari or Rokudo?"
"Oi," Hibari huffs, offended.
"I agree. Ouch," Mukuro pretends to be hurt. "I'll let you know that on good authority I'm a delight to be around."
"Whose authority? Yours?" Gokudera snarks back before letting out a sigh. "Unfortunately, we can't find out his identity because Jyuudaime told us to stay put."
"As entertaining as this is, don't you think that you boys are overreacting?" Daemon asks as the First Generation appears before their successors to their surprise.
"Sadly, the bastard has a point," G says. "Or did you expect Decimo to stay nun in the matters of first love forever? No offense to nuns, Knuckle, just an example."
"None taken, my friend," Knuckle says with a smile, more amused by the Tenth Generation than offended by G's comparison.
"Not to mention," Lampo adds with a yawn. "Giotto and Daniela are with your Sky; they will steer her clear of bad boys."
Sadly, their words fall on deaf ears as Hibari speaks up, "Omnivore told us to stay put; but she didn't say anything about sending someone in our stead."
"Kyoya-san," Chrome says, realizing just that the Cloud Guardian was impling, "that's abusing the loophole, don't!"
But the boys already latched on the idea and started to, despite Chrome's protests and attempts to stop them. The First Generation, watching from the sidelines, either sighs or rolls their eyes at the teens and their overprotectiveness.
This is gonna end in disaster. They just know it.
And the next couple prove their suspicions.
He just comes back from running an errand when Nana, practically shining, greets him.
"Reborn-san! You're just in time to hear the wonderful news!" she tells him, a bounce in her step. Ever since the Curse was broken Nana was told the truth of her husband and daughter's profession. After all, Nana might be naive and oblivious, but even she couldn't pretend it was an everyday occurrence for a baby to grow into an adult man seemingly overnight. Her reaction to the truth was glorious and made clear to everyone as to who Tsuna took after in terms of temper, alongside Giotto. To this day, Iemitsu still avoids calling his wife or dropping out of the blue.
"Oh? And what news is that? Iemitsu finally crawling out of his hole?" Reborn hopes not, because he refuses to see Iemitsu's pathetic attempts at making his wife forgive him or be in his presence.
"No, it isn't Iemitsu," Nana's smile becomes tight for a second. Ah. Iemitsu is a coward as usual then. "Tsuna got her first date!" Nana practically dances to the information.
On second thought, he will take Iemitsu over that.
"What a surprise. Who's the lucky guy?" he asks, masking the emotions he feels at the news. On one hand, it's natural. Tsuna is a teenage girl, dates are part of the growth. On the other hand, he isn't ready for this.
At all.
"Nura Rikuo!" Nana replies, unaware of the storm of the emotions the hitman is experiencing at the moment. "He and Tsu-chan are childhood friends. He's also very nice and likes Tsu-chan. I'm so happy for them!"
"I see." So childhood romance then. How did he miss it- wait a moment! "Maman, does anyone know about the date besides me?"
"Of course! The boys and Chrome-chan do! Tsu-chan told them herself. They were in a hurry when I saw them though," Nana admits, tapping her chin with a finger in thought. "Something about the gathering at the Disciplinary Committee?"
Reborn curses softly in Italian at the information and instantly realizes the reasons behind the gathering. "I'm deeply sorry, Maman. Tell me about the date later? I need to check this gathering."
"Sure! Be back for dinner. We are having Italian tonight!"
"Will do," Reborn promises before bolting out of the door towards school, cursing foolish boys in his mind all the while.
So much for learning a lesson. He should have known it was merely calm before the storm.
"Boss told us to stay put! She will be furious when she finds out!"
"As will be I," Reborn adds to Chrome's argument as he enters Hibari's office a few minutes later. The kids nearly jump out of their skin at his voice. "What did you do, you hellions?"
Even caught red-handed, the boys remain stubbornly quiet. It's G who answers, the First Generation also present in the room.
"This lot," he says, pointing at the Tenth Generation Guardians, "found out about Decimo's date by accident and freaked out. Decimo told them to stay put and asked Chrome to keep them in line. We also told them it was perfectly normal for Decimo to go on a date, but they didn't listen."
"And sent one of Hibari Kyoya's minions to play chaperone to Decimo and her date, nufufu," Daemon adds with a laugh. "Dear God, I haven't had such entertainment in years that was so ridiculous at the same time."
"So what are you saying," Reborn says slowly, feeling a headache coming on,"is that Guardians went around their Boss' orders?"
"Hai, Reborn-san," Chrome says meekly. "I'm sorry. I wasn't able to stop them."
"It seems, "Reborn says, cocking his gun, satisfied when the hellions twitch at the sound, while theFirst Generation wisely disappears from sight, "that my education towards you is lacking in certain aspects. But don't worry. We'll fix it. I'm a professional, after all."
And as Reborn makes sure the lesson sticks in the next few hours, he makes a mental note to research Nura Rikuo and never underestimate Tsuna's patience ever again. No wonder she escaped to Ukiyoe the first chance she got. These brats are headache-inducing and it's been only a few days for Reborn!
This is going to be a long month. When Tsuna returns, he will tell her she owes him.
Big time.
Bonus: How did the Disciplinary Committee react to the news.
"Hey, Ayame, did you hear?" Hashimoto Kenji asks his fellow Disciplinary Committee member, Kimura Ayame.
"What, Kenji?"
"You know that Tsunami-sama is in Ukiyoe right now, visiting family?"
"Yeah, I know. Bossman wasn't pleased about her going alone. And?"
"Well, apparently she got asked out on a date!"
"Woah. I can't see the president reacting well to this…" another member by the name of Hattori Daisuke speaks up, wincing as he imagined his leader's reaction to the knowledge. Everybody knew just how protective he was of their Hime as they nicknamed Tsuna.
"And he didn't. He appeared at the school like a wraith and disappeared into his office along with the gang that is constantly around Tsunami-sama. Then called Satoshi."
"Watanabe-senpai?" Miyamoto Shizuka, one of the younger members, raises her eyebrows in surprise at the tidbit of the information. Watanabe Satoshi was one of the best in the Committee. Whatever Hibari-san needed him for?
Kenji nods. "Yeah, him. Dunno what was said, but it took a while, and then he left for Ukiyoe shortly after."
"Probably to check the guy out as a precaution. I wonder if he's strong, " Yamada Haruto wonders out loud.
"That will be for Hibari-san to determine," Saito Isamu scoffs. "And if the guy loses, then he doesn't deserve Tsunami-sama."
"Isamu, you stone hearted bastard!"Asano Atsushi reprimands his friend playfully. "Shouldn't you be happy for our Hime?"
"I will be, once that boyfriend of hers proves his worth," Isamu retorts.
Kusakabe Tetsuya listens to the Disciplinary Committee bursting with gossip and shakes his head. Poor guy. Whoever he is, he had Kusakabe's sympathy. Because if it ever came to introductions, he would have to deal with the horde of protectors.
If he survives whatever Kyo-san and others would cook up as a "test" first, that is.
Nura Rikuo, one-quater ayakashi, future Lord of Pandemonium, sneezes back in Ukiyoe: Whoops, is somebody talking about me?
