Sorry about how late these chapters are, I've been having some issues so been sorting that and watching Dead City made me come back to it. After watching 1 ep so far, I'm in love with it. But I'm gonna be so sad when I get to Season 7. Eventually. But I was trying to squeeze the full scene with the barn, but looked at how much the chapter was and was a bit stunned to say the least. We're getting into the drama now, we all know how it goes from here with the season. For this chapter, it'll be a just Callie point of view since everyone will be together.
"What is that?" Shane hisses and begins to run. "What is that?" He roars as he runs and everyone runs after him. Jeremy was wary of Shane, he's unhinged.
"Shane!" Lori shouts trying to get his attention.
Callie notices the group. Shane throws the gate open and it bangs against the fence with a loud clang. Oh fuck.
"Shit." Rick curses noticing the group running towards them.
Well, this is going to go well. Callie thought.
"What the hell are you doing?" Shane roars, his neck bulging and his face going red.
Rick turns the walker away from the group. "Shane just back off." They were luring the walkers to the barn. About to lock them away. If this was the price they have to pay to stay, then they'll do it.
"Why do your people have guns?" Hershel asks and Callie turns to him.
"We have no idea, we've been with you all day." Callie snaps back. She was fed up of her and Rick getting blamed for shit that Shane is doing.
"Are you kidding me? You see? You see what they're holding on to?" Shane begins, looking at the group. He narrowly avoids the walker that Rick is holding. Shane was getting redder by the second, if that was even possible.
"I see who I'm holding on to." Hershel angrily corrects the man.
Shane scoffs. "No, man, you don't." He laughs. He's gone insane. The veins in his neck were popping out at this rate.
"Shane, just let us do this, and then we can talk." Rick tries to persuade Shane to back down, but nope. Nothing. Shane was officially derailed and nothing was getting him back on the sane track.
Shane was pacing like a rabid dog. "What you want to talk about, Rick? These things ain't sick. They're not people. They're dead. Ain't gonna feel nothing for them, 'cause all they do, they kill! These things right here, they're the things that killed Aubrey, they killed Otis. They're gonna kill all of us."
Callie watches as Andrea and Amy nod in agreement. Clearly Shane was persuading people behind their backs. Was he trying to take over the group?
"Shane shut up!" Rick shouts at him after taking a look at Hershel, who looked like he was struggling with the information.
"Hey, Hershel man, let me ask you something. Could a living breathing person, could they walk away from this?" Shane asks and lifts his gun and pulls the trigger three times, hitting the walker but it just seems to get aggravated.
"Shane, stop it!" Callie screams.
Josie was holding onto her kids, Lori was grabbing Carl. Amy and Summer were staring in shock. Everyone was terrified of Shane at this moment. Damien, Harriett, Daisy and Richie were just standing there, flabbergasted. Jeremy makes eye contact with her.
"That's three rounds in the chest! Could someone who's alive, could they just take that?! Why is it still coming?" He pulls the trigger once again. Putting another two rounds into the walker. "That's its heart, its lungs. Why is it still coming?" He pulls the trigger again, and Callie looks at Hershel, seeing the utter horror on his face. She looks around at the Greene family, Patricia, looks overwhelmed, Beth and Maggie are horrified, Noa was shocked. Jimmy had his hands on his head, clearly frustrated and upset. The Greene's have never been through the horrors that they have, they haven't seen people get torn apart, they didn't have to shoot walkers dead as they were eating their friends. Now they're seeing people they once knew getting shot down. The whole world was torn open in front of them and they're only now reacting.
"Shane, enough." Rick warns him.
"Yeah, you're right, man. That is enough." Shane storms forward and pulls the trigger, hitting the walker in the head and it drops to the floor. The whole thing went into slow motion. Hershel collapses with it. His old friend. Dead. The whole group was speechless. Daryl had his gun trained on the walker that Rick was still holding onto. Just in case.
"Enough looking for a little girl who's gone!" Shane roars and Carol steps back in shock. "Enough living next to a barn full of things that are trying to kill us. Enough." He says louder. "Rick, it ain't like it was before." Him and Rick had a stare down. "Now if y'all want to live, if you want to survive, you got to fight for it! I'm talking about a fight, right here, right now."
Wait what?
Callie clocked on to what he meant. He wanted to fight. Callie looks at Jeremy who nods, quickly grabbing a gun out of the bag that Damien brought down. They knew what was gonna go down, they had to be ready.
He sprints towards the barn and grabs a pick axe that was leaning against the barn.
"Take the snare pole."
"Rick." Lori calls out.
"Hershel, take the snare pole." Rick begs the man, holding out the pole to the man. But it was no use, Hershel is out of it. Rick and Callie's eyes connected. This was bad. "Hershel, listen to me, man, please. Take it now! Hershel! Take it!"
Shane begins ramming the pick axe on the lock, egging on the walkers to get aggravated enough to walk out.
"Oh god." Damien mutters, grabbing a gun from the bag and getting ready.
Rick looked overwhelmed. "No Shane. Do not do this, brother. Wait!"
"Don't do it!" Amy and Glenn yell, she looks absolutely terrified, Jeremy noted. But Glenn was by Maggie and Hershel, protecting them.
"Rick!" Lori screams again. She clearly wanted her husband to put a reign on Shane but it was no use. He pries open the lock, leaving only the beam in place.
Rick looks desperate now. "Please!"
"Shane!" Callie screams out.
Shane grabs the beam and tosses it to the side. Quickly banging on the doors and taking a few steps back. "Come on! Come on! We're out here." He calls out to the barn.
"This is not the way!" Rick pleas again. "Please!" Rick cries.
Shane is right in front of Callie and Rick. The walker still on the leash is trying to reach out to Shane. Hershel looked upset at seeing the walker dead in front of him. She manages to hear a growl from Shane. "Come on."
That's when the doors opened, revealing a lot of walkers. Snarling, growling. Oh fuck. They have been aggravated by Shane's taunting.
Andrea and T-Dog run to stand beside Shane, their guns ready. Daryl steps up.
Shane pulls the trigger, hitting a walker dead in the face. Daryl loads his shotgun and immediately aims, pulling the trigger and blowing out the head of a walker. Damien runs up, quickly pulling the trigger and a walker collapses to the ground. T-Dog aims and pulls the trigger, quickly killing another.
Glenn finally runs up after some hesitation and quick allowance from Maggie. He aims his shotgun with a grimace, hitting the walker in the shoulder, Damien, quickly fired at the walkers' head, killing it instantly.
Shane looks back at Callie and Rick, who are looking shocked at his display. Shane quickly raises his gun and kills the walker that Rick was still holding, he drops the snare as soon as it collapses.
Summer quickly runs up and shoots at a walker, killing it instantly.
Callie knew what they were doing is right, but it wasn't the way to go about it. They needed to talk to Hershel properly and break it to him. Not shooting them down in front of him. Shane is going to have them kicked off the farm.
"Stay back!" Rick shouts and Callie sees Lori grabbing Carl harshly, clearly the kid wanted to get into the action.
Maya was covering her ears tightly, Connor was hugging her and Josie looked terrified. Their eyes connected. She needed to do something.
After quite a dozen more gunshots occur, the last of the walkers dropped. It fell into a silence. Callie's ears were ringing from all the gunfire. All she could hear was crying from the Greene family. Both Rick and Callie knew this would be their last day on the farm. That's when she noticed both Dale and Tabby run up, they looked disheveled and tired, their eyes were wide with shock and horror.
It fell silent. Her ears were ringing from all the gunfire and she heard everyone panting. Mainly from the shooters.
They hear another growl and everyone got tense. There's more? Callie thought they had gotten them all. Her hand went to her own gun.
A walker steps out, a small walker, the little shoes sloppily kicking itself. The walker creeped out, crouching away from the light. She noticed the t-shirt.
"No." She whispers and she could feel Rick's eyes on her before looking at the walker.
The walker looks up revealing Sophia. Her face pale, eyes sunken in. Her neck torn on the left side. Blood staining her shirt. She snarls at the group noticing all the people she could eat. Food. She was here.
"Oh, oh god! Sophia! Sophia." Carol cries out, running towards the barn and Daryl grabs a hold of her and they collapse to the ground. "Sophia." She sobs. Daryl was holding her tightly.
It was all her fault. Her eyes connect with Amy's. She could see guilt as tears pour down her face. Callie looks at Rick who looks guilty too. They failed her. She was here. The whole time.
The walker comes forward, hitting the bodies on the floor with her feet. Shane looks down and no one could step forward. No one could put her down. Sophia starts snarling at the group, a small growl echoing.
"Don't watch." She hears Lori cry.
Rick walks forward, unholstering his colt and aims it at the girl. Taking her in then he pulls the trigger. The gunshot echoes and Sophia's body hits the ground.
Callie collapses on the ground, tears falling down her face. She didn't notice she was crying. It was all her fault. She shouldn't have left Amy and Sophia alone. She shouldn't have drawn the walkers away. If she fought with them behind her, maybe Sophia would still be here.
Carol's cries were all that was heard. But just like that, they found Sophia, but not in the way that they had hoped.
Rick was standing over Sophia, the once young girl was dead. No more hiking through the woods to look for her. She was gone.
Callie felt a hand on her shoulder and looks up to Jeremy. He looks like he had been crying but was holding it together. He helps her up.
"It's not your fault." He tells her but she knows differently.
If only she didn't leave them.
"Don't look." Daryl says and practically drags Carol to her feet. "Don't look." He urges and she was still sobbing. She pushes Daryl away from her before running off. Daryl looked hurt for a second. Their eyes meet. She probably looked like a mess right now, red eyes, meeting his glassy ones.
Beth walks past her, quickly avoiding Rick who tries to stop her.
"Wait wait wait". He tries to tell the girl.
She cries as she approaches one walker in particular. "Ma." Her voice goes quiet and struggles to move a walker off of her. That's when her walker of a mother grabs her and Beth screams.
Callie runs immediately to the girl, quickly grabbing the girl.
"Come on! Pull her away! Pull her away!" Shane urges as he grabs ahold of the walker.
Beth still screams as her mother snarls at her, gripping ahold of her arms. Rick grabs Beth as well and Callie nods at him. He understood immediately what she was gonna do so braced himself ready to take on Beth's full weight. Jeremy clamps his hands over Beth's ears as well, confusing the others who clearly didn't get the message. Callie let's go of Beth and quickly grabs her gun and shoots the walker in the face, killing it instantly.
The echo of the gunshot makes her ears ring.
She looks up to see Andrea had the pick axe in hand, ready to swing it at the walker. They both nod at each other.
Well that was a close one.
Callie's POV
Hershel was walking towards the house with his family, Glenn was helping out the Greene's, but they were followed by a very angry Shane who was storming behind them. Herself, Rick, and Jeremy run after him. Oh for fuck sake, can Shane just let things cool off before doing this?
"We've been out. We've been combing these woods looking for her and she was in there all along?" Shane asks the group, Hershel looked frustrated and Callie was so close to punching Shane. "You knew."
"Leave us alone." Maggie demands, her voice wavering from crying.
"Hey, Shane, just stop man." Glenn pleas with the man. He sounded fed up.
"Get your hands off me." He shrugs ... hands off of him.
Hershel stops then. "I-"
Shane steps forward. "You knew and you kept it from us."
"I didn't know." Hershel says weakly.
Shane shakes his head. "That's bullshit. I think y'all knew."
Noa stared at him then. "We didn't know." She snaps.
"Why was she there?!" Shane yells.
Hershel looked out of there. "Your-..." He stops himself. "Otis put those people in the barn. Maybe he found her and put her in there before he was killed."
Shane looked amused but with a mix of anger. "You expect me to believe that? Do I look like an idiot?" He steps forward again and Rick steps in between them.
"Shane, hey hey hey."
Hershel looks pissed and steps forward towards Shane. "I don't care what you believe."
Rick was exhausted. "Everybody just calm down."
Hershel looks at Rick then. "Get him off my land!" He yells, pointing at Shane.
Shane gets too close to Hershel. "Let me tell you something." He goes to grab Hershel when something happens.
"Don't touch him!" Maggie yells going to step forward but that was the last straw for Callie.
"Hey!" Callie tells and punches Shane in the face.
"Holy shit." Glenn mutters and everyone falls silent for a moment. Shane looked shocked. She felt everyone's eyes on her.
"Haven't you done enough?" Callie asks Shane who just glares at her in return. Callie looks back at Maggie who nods at her gratefully.
"I mean it, off my land." Hershel threatens before storming into his house, his family following.
Shane begins to walk off and Rick whirls around to him. "What are you doing?" He asks but Shane walks past him. "Hey, what are you doing?"
Shane tenses and Callie just stares him down, making him nervous. "Daryl almost died looking for her, Rick. Any one of us could have. I'm gonna tell you right now..." he pauses and points towards the house. "That son of a bitch, he knew."
"I thought you said that Daryl almost died for a doll, not Sophia." Callie reminds Shane who looked caught off guard for a second.
"No I didn't. I didn't mean it that way." Shane denies and Callie and Jeremy look at each other amused, knowing he was lying or trying to make it seem like he was less of a dick.
Rick looks at him like he was crazy. "He didn't know. He's not like that. He opened his home to us."
"He put us all in danger." Shane snaps. "Man, he kept a barn full of walkers." He tries to get Rick to turn against Hershel but Rick was starting to not trust him.
"So you just start an insurrection, hand out guns and massacre his family?" Rick asks him, doubt in his face.
Shane's jaw clenches. "His family's dead, Rick."
"Well, he doesn't believe that. He thinks you just murdered them in cold blood." Rick was clearly trying to get his best friend to see the wrongs of his act of breaking into the barn.
Shane rubs his head. "No, man, I don't care what he thinks."
That was Rick's last straw. "I was handling it, brother. I was handling it and you just..." he trails off disgusted.
Shane whirls back to Rick. "You had us out in those words looking for a little girl that every single one of us knew was dead! That's what you did. Rick, you're just as delusional as that guy. You handling it, huh?" He mocks as he walks off. Callie watched him rub his head in frustration.
Amy's POV
She was devastated about Sophia. She couldn't believe it. If only she knew how to defend herself then, maybe Sophia would still be alive.
She knocked on the door to the RV where Carol was sitting, looking out of the window. She looked out of it. Daryl was sitting on the counter, watching her. She sits opposite Carol who tenses at her approach.
"I'm so sorry for your loss." She manages to get out but it stays silent. "At least she's at pea-
"Why are you here?" Carol asks, her voice breaking from the emotional toll. "You and Callie are the reason that she's dead. And Rick." She stops herself and Amy bites her lip.
It was her fault. She should have tried harder. She should have held her hand.
"Carol-"
"Don't." Carol snaps and Amy nods her head before standing up, she sees Daryl giving her an apologetic look. She quickly leaves the RV and walks to the barn, seeing the group just stand around, clearly not knowing what to do. She wipes away her tears.
She sees Dale take Carl towards the house, followed by Josie, Connor and a very upset Maya.
She hears footsteps and looks behind her to see Shane, then Callie and Rick. All three of them looking frustrated.
"You want us to start burying?" Jeremy asks both Rick and Callie who looked out of it. Amy felt sorry for them in this moment, they were trying to make a deal with Hershel and Shane ruined it. They stayed silent and the group looks at each other in concern. Their leaders were not here mentally.
Her sister decided to speak up. "We need a service. Carol would want that."
T-Dog nods his head. "Yeah, we all want that."
"Let's... let's dig a grave for Sophia, and Annette and Shawn, uh, over by those trees." Lori suggests, pointing to the area where Otis was buried. "And we'll need a truck to move the bodies."
Jimmy nods his head. "I'll get the keys."
"No, no. I got the truck." Shane announces before walking off.
The group watches him go, a bit uncertain of his behaviour. Amy wasn't fond of him anymore, he's a lunatic. She didn't think anyone was fond of him anymore, ever since that night of him going with that man to save Carl, he came back a different man. Jeremy was glaring at his back, clearly he knew something that no one else did, apart from Callie and Lori. Something has happened there.
"And the others? That's a lot of digging." Jimmy points out and Amy knew what was going to be said next.
"We bury the ones we love and burn the rest." Andrea says and the group falls silent. It only felt like yesterday that they were burning Aubrey, and the rest of the group from the Quarry. But it felt like a long time ago that they were there.
"Let's get to work." Lori says before strutting over to Rick who looks visibly upset.
She walks over to Jeremy who quickly grabs a shovel and walks over to the trees.
"Jer." She calls but he ignores her. "Please talk to me." She cries and he turns to her then.
"What?" He asks coldly, even though in his eyes she can see tears forming there. "What do you want me to say? That oh you were right about the walkers in the barn? That we would never find Sophia?" He chuckles darkly. "No, we weren't right about the barn. It probably has cost us with Hershel and now we'll be on the road. And Sophia, well we found her." He starts to sob and she grabs him in a hug.
"I'm sorry for not siding with you." Amy admits to him. "It was wrong to open the barn."
"I'm not mad, I just felt... upset about it." Jeremy admits and she smiles warmly at him.
"We make quite a pair, don't we?" She laughs through the tears and he smiles then.
"A pair?" He raises a brow. "I thought we were friends?"
She looks at him shocked at the comment. "What?"
"I'm kidding." He jokes and she scoffs, pushing his shoulder. "Would you like to be..?" He trials off and she raises a brow. "Don't make me say it." He moans and she laughs.
"Oh I will."
He snorts. "I feel like a teenager all over again." He mutters. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
She smiles, "yeah. I'd love to."
I wanted Carol to be a lot angrier in Season 2, so I wanted her to mainly blame Callie and Amy for the death of her daughter. Because in my opinion, she does get a little bitchy with Rick in season 2, so I'm harnessing that energy. But a nice bittersweet ending to the chapter with everyone in mourning and Amy and Jeremy getting together.
