Almost at the end of Season 2. Quick note, there will be a little break for now until I get season 3 and 4 full on set in stone. But hope you guys enjoy the chapter.
Disclaimer I don't own The Walking Dead just my ocs and plotlines.
Callie's PoV
"Are you okay?" Carl asks worriedly at his second father figure who finally storms up to them. His nose looked broken, there was blood dripping down his face and chin, dropping down onto his shirt.
"I'm fine. Little bastard just snuck up on me. He clocked me in the face." Shane announces.
She shares a look with Daryl. How the hell did he clock Shane of all people? The boy was skinny and looked like he couldn't throw a punch, let alone clock a man and knock him out. Especially Shane.
Rick nods his head. "Alright, Hershel, Jeremy, T-Dog, Damien, get everyone back into the house. Glenn, Daryl, and Callie, come with us." She nods, Jeremy nods at her, and she understood what he meant.
"T, I'm gonna need that gun." Shane says and T nods before handing it to him.
They start to walk off.
"Just let him go. That was the plan, wasn't it, to just let him go?" Carol asks.
"The plan was to cut him loose far away from here, not on our front step with a gun." Rick snaps and no one blames him.
It was a stupid thought, Randall with a gun practically next to them.
"Don't go out there. Y'all know what can happen."
But they all know they didn't have a choice.
"Get everybody back in the house. Lock all the doors, and stay put!" Rick orders them.
They walk towards the trees and could hear them ushering the group inside before it goes quiet when they were far enough away.
"I saw him head up through the trees that way before I blacked out. I'm not sure how long." Shane explains to them.
Rick shakes his head. "He couldn't have gotten far. He's hobbled, exhausted."
"And armed." Glenn adds nervously, emphasising on the word, armed.
"So are we." She points out to him, to calm him and he nods.
Rick turns to Daryl. "Can you track him?"
Daryl starts looking at the ground, "No, I don't see nothing."
Callie frowns at that. Did he come this way?
"Hey, look, there ain't no use in tracking him, okay? He went that way." Shane points to a general direction. "We need to pair up. We spread out, we just chase him down. That's it."
Daryl frowns before looking at Shane. "Kid weighs a buck-25 soaking wet. You trying to tell us he got the jump on you?"
Callie notices Shane clench his jaw. "I say a rock pretty much evens those odds, wouldn't you?"
"Alright, knock it off." Rick snaps and turns to her. "You, Daryl and Glenn start heading up the right flank. Me and Shane will take the left."
Callie notices Shane's eyes, they were starting to get dark. But she shook it off, it might be that it's starting to get dark.
"Remember, Randall's not the only threat out there. Keep an eye out for each other." Rick orders before they split up.
It was a while searching when Daryl huffs. At this point it was pitch black, and their only source of light was the moonlight, which was making it more difficult to see.
"This is pointless. You got a light?" He looks at Glenn who hands him one. "Come on."
He takes the pair further and Glenn notices where they are.
"We're just back to square one."
"If you're gonna do a thing, you might as well do it right." Daryl informs him and he nods.
"Makes sense." He mutters.
Callie frowns.
"I don't understand how Randall overpowered Shane. It doesn't make sense." She says and Glenn nods his head.
"Yeah, I'm around the same size and wouldn't stand a chance even taking him by surprise. Even Rick-" he stops himself and they all understood Glenn.
When Shane fought Rick, they both withstood a lot, so why would Shane blackout from a rock? Even Rick struggled to fight Shane, and he was slightly slimmer due to Shane being pure muscle, but how the hell did a 22 year old guy, who was the same size as her could knock him out.
"There's two sets of tracks right here." Daryl announces and they look at where he's pointing a light and frown. "Shane must've followed him a lot longer than he said."
Callie now has a feeling that Shane killed him. If he followed him, Randall was a dead man.
Daryl follows a trail, and shines the light up to a tree and they notice liquid. Blood. "There's blood on this tree." He looks again and notices more things. "There's more tracks. Looks like they're walking in a tandem."
She notices Glenn walk straight into the back of Daryl and jumps. Daryl looks at him. "Sorry." He breathes out.
She notices the humour in Daryl's face before he looks away, and notices something.
"What do you see?" She asks him. She only knows so much about hunting, certain animals she could track, but this was his expertise.
"Yeah, there was a little dust up right here."
Glenn frowns. "What do you mean?"
"I mean something went down." Daryl says.
"It's getting weird." Glenn mutters and she hums.
"Yeah, it doesn't add up." Callie confirms.
Daryl picks up a piece of cloth and they recognise it as the one that was on Randall. Before they could say anything, they heard a twig snap and all three hide behind a tree each.
Callie peeks around and sees a walker, hobbling close by. Luckily it was only one.
Glenn decides to peek but the walker was right in front of him, growling and lurches at him, it causes Glenn to drop his weapon in surprise and hold the walker at bay.
Daryl immediately aims his crossbow but couldn't get a clean shot, quickly throwing it to the floor and grabbing the walker, which was getting more and more agitated.
Due to Daryl grabbing the walker roughly off of Glenn, it causes him to stumble and collapse on the floor.
She whistles at the walker who looks back at her, Daryl quickly grabs the walker's arms, and pins them down, restraining him, like a cop.
Callie grabs her machete and swings it into the walkers head, killing it instantly. Glenn gets up and Daryl shoves the walker off him, and it face plants onto the ground.
They all took a minute just to get their bearings, all of them panting after the walker took them off guard.
Daryl turns over the walker and they are met with Randall.
"Randall?" Glenn mutters.
Callie felt anxiety in her stomach by staring at the body of Randall. Was Jenner right?
Daryl started checking him before stopping and frowning.
"What is it?" She asks him, but she has an idea what he was doing. She couldn't let them know. It was a secret that her and Rick agreed on keeping to themselves.
"He's got no bites." Daryl says and her stomach drops.
Jenner was right all along. They could turn by dying from anything. They were fucked.
"Yeah, none you can see." Glenn retorts back to him but Daryl shakes his head.
"No, I'm telling you, he died from this." Daryl says, gesturing to Randall's broken neck.
"How's that possible?" Glenn mutters and no one spoke after that. They didn't know what to come up with. Even though Jenner told her that when they die, they come back, but now, staring at Randall's dead body, how could she tell them that she knew all this time?
She still couldn't believe it.
"Let's head back." She announces and the two men follow after her.
They only took a couple of steps before a gunshot echoes through the forest.
Maya's POV
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" She asks her best friend who huffs at her hesitance.
"For the last time, yeah. We need to help my dad, Callie and Shane. We could find Randall, and the rest of the group can stop seeing us as kids." Carl explains to her and she frowns.
"But we are kids." She mutters.
They were heading toward the farthest edge of the farm where the trees are. They needed to find Randall, and fast to keep the group safe.
Carl was determined to go out and find Randall, he wanted to help, and Maya couldn't let him go out on his own. But she knew she was going to be in so much trouble with her mom when she gets back to the house.
They hear a gunshot, the sound like a loud bang going off and shouting. But only one voice.
"Come on." Carl urges and they run through the field towards the chaos.
They saw Rick over a body, a dead body.
Rick was hunched over, not noticing them yet.
"Dad?" Carl calls out, his voice high.
Rick's head snaps towards them. His eyes widening at the sight of them.
"Carl. Maya. You know... you know you both should be back home."
Carl pulls out his gun and aims.
"Carl!" Maya exclaims.
She finally notices why when a walker Shane gets up.
"Just- just put the- put the gun down." Rick pleads with his son, and Maya was looking between Carl and a walker Shane, wondering when he would pull the trigger, or will he accidentally shoot his dad?
The walker Shane was approaching behind Rick, getting closer and closer.
"It's not what it seems, please." Rick cries and Carl pulls the trigger and she squeaks in surprise.
The walker Shane drops dead and Rick looks surprised for a second before turning around, finally seeing what Carl was aiming at.
Her and Carl run towards him and Rick holds out his arm.
"Wait-wait".
They all look down to a dead Shane, his stomach bloody and a gunshot wound in the head. She looks away, feeling a bit sick.
She couldn't believe it, he was dead. Shane was dead.
Jeremy's POV
It was night time and no one was speaking, none of the kids went to bed, they were all waiting for everyone to return with Randall. They heard two gunshots and it was worrying them all.
Jeremy had his gun on him, just in case Randall comes back with his group.
"I'm going after them." Andrea says, moving from the counter but Lori stops her.
"Don't, they could be anywhere. And if Randall comes back, we're gonna need you here." She explains to the woman who nods.
He understood her reasoning to go out there, he wanted to go after Callie but he has to trust her. They'll be able to find Randall. But he needs to stay behind to protect the group, and he needs as many people as possible, and that is Andrea, Damien, T-Dog and Harriett. He needed the man power. He couldn't do it by himself.
The door opens and Daryl, Callie and Glenn walk in. They all look at the trio expecting answers but they look just as confused.
"Rick and Shane ain't back?" Daryl finally speaks up.
Jeremy shakes his head. "No."
They all frown. "We heard a shot."
"Maybe they found Randall."
"We found him." Daryl answers immediately making Jeremy worry more for the leader and Shane.
"Is he back in the shed?" Hershel asks the trio.
Jeremy notices a look pass between the three of them.
"He's a walker." Glenn answers the older man.
Patricia looked uneasy. "Did you find the walker that bit him?"
Were there walkers in the woods nearby? Did that make them unsafe? A possible herd?
"No, the weird thing is he wasn't bit." Glenn tells everyone and it goes silent.
What?
Daryl took that as his queue. "His neck was broke."
"So he fought back." Andrea suggests but that didn't make sense. Why would Shane lie to them about Randall?
"The thing is, Shane and Randall's tracks were right on top of each other. And Shane ain't no tracker, so he didn't come up behind him. They were together." Daryl informs them.
Did Shane kill Randall? Jeremy didn't doubt that but why would he lie about it all?
Lori steps forward to Daryl and Callie, who was unusually quiet about it all. "Would you two please go back out there, find Rick and Shane and find out what on earth is going on?"
Callie nods.
"You got it." Daryl confirms.
Lori nods relieved. "Thank you."
Maya's POV
The three of them were walking back to the farm, leaving behind Shane's dead body. She couldn't believe that he was dead. Shane saved them so many times. Rick must be upset.
"You bit too?" Carl finally breaks the silence, asking a question that was scaring him. She didn't blame him, since Rick has been quiet, but maybe he was mourning him?
"No." Rick finally answers, his voice was hoarse from crying.
"Shane was." Carl states rather than asking.
"That wasn't Shane. You know that." Rick reminds him softly.
"Used to be." She mutters and she could see something in Rick's face but she couldn't figure it out.
The house was at a closer distance, no more fences separated them now from their home. She knew mom was gonna scream at her when she gets in, maybe grab her harshly. She has small bruises from the last time, but she remembers her dad saying that she has a history of post natal depression, whatever that is. That she couldn't help hurting us and we had to be patient.
"What happened?" Carl asks his dad, getting straight to the point. "Were you guys attacked?" Rick still stayed silent. "I mean... we heard a gun shot, but didn't see any walkers nearby."
"Mr Grimes, did Randall hurt him?" She asks the man.
Carl asks. "How did Shane die?"
This made Rick stop in his tracks and turn to the pair of them. He goes to speak before he looks behind them.
"Oh my god." He murmurs and she frowns before looking back, and seeing a massive herd of walkers. "Go-go-go-go." He urges the two of them quietly into the line of trees nearby.
They were hoping to not be seen by the massive herd. It was bigger than the highway, but she was terrified, herself, Rick and Carl were in between the walkers and the farm house. She shouldn't have followed Carl out of the house.
She was terrified, the walkers were practically on top of them now, and they still had a distance to run before the house. The walkers were passing them, due to them being hidden, they were heading to the house.
Carl pants. "We-we gotta get to the house, tell the others."
She wanted to get back home to her mom.
"We'll never get through that. Can't go around." Rick lists, he is trying to come up with a plan. He looks at the pair of them. "Carl, Maya, I want you to stay close. Go!"
He orders in a whisper and immediately runs, and they quickly run after him, keeping up. They had to avoid the reaches of walkers while they run towards the barn.
How long will Callie be able to hold onto the secret now people are questioning how Randall turned? Now onto the chaos. But a little Maya pov for a change. But silly of them to head out to look for Randall, but she's looking out for her best friend.
