The first thing Reyna tasted was wet iron. She could feel it flooding her mouth, and something else tricked down her chin. Reyna blinked a few times and stared at the white cloud that enveloped her vision. She tried to pull her head back to see what it was, only to stop briefly from the pain in her neck and back. Her face had been planted into a white bag. Something red smeared it and was sliding down its blank canvas.
Reyna slowly blinked her eyes, trying to will the pain away. It felt like someone had injected lead into her skull. Reyna tried to lift her head again but was met with even sharper pain. She groaned and turned her head slightly, wincing as the pain shot through her system.
Reyna tried to shift, and sharp pain rewarded her body for the effort. She could feel a cold, sharp breach in her side every time she sucked in a breath. Then, there was a dull ache in her wrist, like someone was stabbing it with a thousand different needles.
A garbled noise escaped Reyna, and she felt something hot and sticky hit her chin and trickle down. Reyna lifted her head from the white bag that rested over the steering wheel and slowly pushed herself back against the seat. Fresh pain shot through her chest and back.
Reyna focused on the cracked car window in front of her. She blindly reached out to take off her seat belt, but her fingers were being stubborn and not budging. Reyna tried to move her wrist, but sharp pain shot through her arm.
It took a moment for Reyna's left hand to slowly snake across her body and fumble for the seat belt. Her entire chest ached with each small movement. She slowly pressed it on the seat belt and heard it click free of its trap. Reyna carefully guided her seat belt and laid her head back.
Reyna grasped around her pockets blindly for her phone. When she didn't find it, her eyes batted around the car. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her phone light up. Reyna painfully reached out to grab it, barely able to form a grip.
Reyna brought her phone back to her lap and just stared at it. Why did she need this? Reyna blinked a few times and looked around the car. She slowly opened the door and tried to get out.
One moment she was in the car. The next she was slamming face first into the asphalt. A sharp pain wracked her skull as it made contact with the ground, and her chest screamed in protest. Reyna laid there on the ground and felt her eyes grow heavier than they ever have.
A vibration shook Reyna awake, snapping her eyes open. She slowly pressed her hands against the ground and pushed to lift herself. Her right wrist immediately burned, and she retracted it.
As Reyna made it to her knees, the world began spinning like a tornado, and she found it hard to breathe, like something was pushing its way up her throat. Reyna grabbed at the car to keep herself steady, and she began to retch.
Vomit and something red came out of Reyna's mouth which made her retch more. She doubled over and hurled up whatever she had for dinner.
Reyna almost collapsed into her pool of expelled liquids. Instead, she leaned heavily on her car door to struggle to a standing position. Her world spun again, and she gripped hard as she could to keep leaning on the car. Her hands fumbled for her phone as her balance threatened to fell her again.
Reyna slowly tapped at her phone to unlock it. The wallpaper wouldn't move, until she dragged her finger across the screen. Her eyes saw triple of each icon, and she inched her fingertips, trying to press the one that looked the most green.
The names in front of her seemed to be dancing and floating off the phone screen. Reyna blinked a few times and carefully pressed in on the name at the top of the list. Her fingers left red water where she had pressed. Reyna almost jumped as she heard the phone ringing. Instead, she fumbled to put it on speaker.
"Hello?" A voice asked.
"Eyyy."
"...Reyna? Is that you?"
"Yaaaa… I… goss in tah crew"
"Are you drunk?"
"Nah. C...c..cah"
"Reyna, what is going on?"
"Toldsss ya. I caaashed."
"Reyna. Where are you?"
"O-side."
"Outside? Outside where?"
"N...nooo laaa sè."
"Reyna. I don't know Spanish. Can you please speak English?"
"Sí sí."
"Reyna, you're really starting to freak me out. What happened?"
Reyna felt the phone slip from her hands as her limbs failed her, and the spinning came right back. She dropped to her knees and gripped the car until the world stopped flipping out on her. Her hands slowly reached for and barely gripped the phone again.
"Reyna?" Annabeth asked. It sounded like she was worried. Why would she be worried?
"Ssssaaaapoole," Reyna slurred. She didn't get why Annabeth kept asking these damn questions.
"I'm going to video call you, okay?" Annabeth said. Reyna watched the call end, and her phone vibrated a moment later, causing her to almost drop it again. Reyna tapped at the phone and saw the call disappear. Another call came through a moment later.
Reyna tapped her phone again, and Annabeth's face appeared. She wasn't wearing makeup, and her hair looked like a rat's nest.
"Sss..ssshey," Reyna slurred. She barely saw Annabeth's eyes widen.
"Jesus! Reyna, can you show me what happened?" Annabeth asked. Reyna blinked a few times and slowly moved her phone to show Annabeth the wrecked car. "Okay, Reyna. Stay on the line. Can you show me your surroundings?"
"Zzooo bizzzzy," Reyna drawled. She tried to stand, but her balance was hindered by the annoying tornado again. It felt like she was being hit between the eyes as she collapsed back against the car. Her phone slipped from her hands.
Reyna tried to catch it, and her knees gave out. She caught herself with her hands but cried out as pain shot through her wrist. She collapsed back to the hard asphalt.
"Reyna, don't move, okay? I'm going to get you help," Annabeth promised. Reyna made a noise as she rested her face on the cool asphalt. "Reyna! Stay awake! Reyna!"
"Zzzzhere," Reyna slurred once more. She blindly reached for her phone and heard the echoes of it skidding further away. Her face rested back on the ground, and her eyes drifted open and close.
"Reyna!" Annabeth yelled. Reyna's eyes snapped open as her head shot up. She immediately groaned and rested her head back down. Reyna slowly dragged herself over to the phone. "Can you hear me?"
Reyna groaned, too tired to give effort to any conversation. Sleep sounded so tempting. Annabeth screamed again, "Reyna, you have to stay with me! Can you see anything around you?!"
"Rrees," Reyna groaned. She grabbed her phone and slowly pulled the screen to face her. Annabeth looked like she was now wearing a coat of some sort and a hat. It looked good on her. "Hhhawght."
"Reyna, I know it's hard, but you have to focus. I just need to know where you are," Annabeth said pleadingly. "Just lift your phone and slowly move it around. Let me see your surroundings."
Reyna groaned and lifted her phone. She pointed it in a random direction before moving it to the other.
"I see the museum! Just st-"
The phone dropped from Reyna's fingers, and she watched it crack against the ground in a blur. Reyna lowered her hand and stared at the asphalt below her face. A darkness was luring her in.
Annabeth told her to stay awake, though. And Annabeth was smart. She knew what she was talking about. Then again, Reyna could just take a nice, quick nap.
Reyna shifted to remove her chin from the puddle of pooled vomit. More pain hammered in her chest, and it felt like she was being stabbed in her side. Not to mention the needles still stabbing her wrist. And now, her knees were starting to feel the same pain as her wrists. Each breath of cold air she took in felt like it was scraping against the inside of her lungs.
Reyna groaned and shifted again. She couldn't find a spot that felt comfortable. Reyna groaned and heard her phone vibrate again. She looked at the half cracked screen, unable to make out the name.
Her gaze stayed focused on the phone as it vibrated again. Why wasn't it playing a ringtone? Did it have a ringtone? Reyna frowned, sad that she probably didn't set a decent ringtone.
As Reyna debated the merits of downloading a new ringtone and trying to find a comfortable position to fall asleep in, she didn't hear the sound of a car coming down the road. It wasn't until the tires screeched to a stop and a door opened and slammed shut that she snapped to focus.
"Reyna!" Annabeth yelled in shock as she appeared over Reyna.
"Zzuea," Reyna mumbled. She groaned as Annabeth gently lifted her head and rested it on her lap. "Annkks."
"Just be quiet, okay?" Annabeth whispered. Her voice sounded shaky as she dialed into her phone. "Yes, I have an emergency. My friend crashed into a pole. No, she's the only person involved."
"Yes. We're on 125 Dodds Road. Right next to the Museum of Greek History," Annabeth detailed. Her hand gently rested on Reyna's chest. "She made it out of the car on her own. Yes, badly."
"A bad concussion," Annabeth stated. Reyna stared up at Annabeth. She wasn't wearing a bra. Huh.
"It doesn't sound like she's breathing normally. One of her wrists is swollen and her shoulder looks like it's out of socket," Annabeth listed.
"Emmm fehnnn," Reyna slurred, and she slowly reached up to grab at Annabeth, not aware that her hand rested on Annabeth's breast. Annabeth slapped her hand away and gave her a harsh look.
"If you weren't hurt right now," Annabeth swore as she covered the receiver. Reyna just found her gaze moving to Annabeth's amazing chest, and she was entranced by it. "Yes, I think she vomited too. I'm not sure how long ago. Ok, thank you."
"They'll be here soon," Annabeth promised as she looked down at Reyna. All Reyna could do was stare at Annabeth, enthralled. Was it rude to stare?
Sure, Thalia's breasts were great as well, but she always hid them under a jacket or compressed them by wearing two shirts. But Annabeth wasn't wearing a bra.
"Eyes up here," Annabeth ordered. Reyna slowly looked up into the stormy gray eyes of Annabeth Chase. Concern danced heavily in them. "I'm going to kick your ass later."
"Ind moee?" Reyna asked. Annabeth glared at her and then shook her head. She carefully grabbed Reyna's phone and scrolled through it despite the cracked screen.
Annabeth brought the phone to her ear. Reyna heard someone answer followed by loud voices. Annabeth spoke quickly, "It's not Reyna."
"She got into a bad car wreck. I'm with her right now waiting for the ambulance," Annabeth explained before hesitating. "I'm not sure how bad it is, but she's concussed to hell. Can't make a coherent sentence."
"Zzzurhee I...I...I kans."
"She hit a pole. I don't smell any alcohol on her," Annabeth said. "I'm going to text you on my phone after I hang up. I'll tell you which hospital it is and then let everyone else know."
"Okay. I'll take care of her," Annabeth promised. She lowered Reyna's phone and then grabbed her own to send a text. Reyna stared entranced up at her.
"Stay with me," Annabeth whispered.
"Awwiite, Annahhh biiich" Reyna promised as Annabeth continued to cradle her cranium. Her eyes started to drift close, and Annabeth talked softly to her. Reyna tried to focus on Annabeth and heard sirens in the distance.
"Just stay awake," Annabeth whispered. She gently brushed hair out of Reyna's face. "It's going to be okay. I promise. Stay with me, and you'll be in the hospital soon."
