A/N Reference to gargoyles isn't to the kid's cartoon, Cole actually tells the sisters about them while they're trying to investigate Paige's origins.

They're also used by a witch named Nell who traps a warlock in a painting to kill him if he tries to escape, she paints them into the picture in case he tries to escape. They can kill with a sonic screech and breath fire if necessary and even the Source can be injured by them.

After talking to Sister Agnes the three returned to Andy's car and headed back toward Xander and Cordelia's home.

"Swirl of white lights means something to both of you." Andy stated. "You hid your reactions well, but I'm a cop and I'm trained to read people. What does it mean?"

"We just found out about them today as we'd never heard of them before." Xander answered. "It turns out Piper's ez boyfriend, the one who took off on her, is one. Whitelighers, unoriginal, I know. And their counterparts, known as darklighters. Both were originally human and after death were remade into another lifeform. In the case of whitelighers, a type of guardian angel. Advisors, guides to good witches, potential future whitelighers, that kind of thing. Turns out Leo left because being involved with Piper broke some pretty big rules and he was certain his bosses would be pissed abut it. They're not supposed to get involved with other powerful beings, like witches. The potential combination could produce an extremely powerful being."

"So you're saying Cordelia's birth parents, one or both, are whitelighers?" Andy clarified. "And one is possibly a witch or other type of magical being and they were afraid that the whitelighter bosses, whoever they are, might have done something. Something that scared them enough to hide their child in a church and let her go to keep her safe? And these are supposed to be good guys?"

"Yeah, I'm struggling with this myself." Xander admitted. "Power attracts and power scares, those are givens. But would they really be scared enough to hurt a baby?"

"They didn't want to take the chance." Cordelia decided. "Just in case they were that afraid, so they let me go, but asked Sister Agnes to make sure I ended up in a good home, with people who would love me and take care of me. They wanted me to grow up to be a good person, in the hopes that if my powers ever did go active, I'd use them for good and prove to those scared bigwigs that just because I might be powerful, doesn't mean I'm going to be a monster." She glanced back at Xander, knowing he understood what she meant. He didn't want to be a monster either and worked to be a good person and unlike her, he hadn't had a good home or good parents. He'd had to figure out how to be a good person on his own.

"But this didn't help you find out who your birth parents actually are." Andy pointed out. "Sure, it confirmed the story your parents told you and Sister Agnes gave you the information that a whitelighter is involved, but you have no idea which one or who the other parent might be."

"We have another lead." Xander told him. "But it's not something we can discuss with you because it involves someone else's private information. Maybe after we talk to them, they'll let us tell you."

"Not a problem." Andy answered, as they pulled in front of Xander and Cordelia's home. "Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with."

"We will." Cordelia assured him. "You've been very helpful and we appreciate it."

The couple watched him drive off before turning toward Halliwell Manor. "We have to talk to them, Xander." Cordelia said. "Sure, the symbol on the blanket might represent another magical family, but we know for sure it represents the Halliwells. We need to start with them and see if they are the family I come from. But it's been a really rough day for Piper, is now the right time?"

"No, now isn't the right time. It's late, it's been a long day and you're right, it's been a rough day for Piper. We can talk to them later and there's something else we need to talk about." As the couple headed for their side of the duplex. "The fact that your parents mentioned that they intended to tell you that you were adopted years ago and forgot, but have now remembered and have been discussing it and trying to figure out why they didn't tell you earlier."

"What the Mayor did is wearing off." Cordelia realized. "It's only been a week and a half since we left Sunnydale, how fast might it wear off for people still living there?"

"I can't begin to guess, but since it appears it is wearing off on your parents, than sooner or later they're going to remember other things, like what happened at graduation. Eventually we'll have to tell them about me being a techno vamp and our plans to make you one and our hopes that they'll also agree to be techno vamos so we can stop your mother's health from deteriorating. It might not be too much longer until we're faced with those conversations."

"Then we definitely need a good night's sleep before tackling either one of our problems." Cordelia decided and with a weary nod, Xander followed her into their home.

Tomorrow would be soon enough to deal with their problems.
