The camera opened up to reveal a seagull on a beach. "It's been fifteen years since our show first began airing," a familiar voiceover stated. "And now, we're back to do it all over again! Back to rundown cabins, the outhouse confessionals, and of course, Chef's delicious cooking!"
"Today, sixteen new contestants will arrive to battle it out!" Chris exclaimed joyously as he stepped into frame, "and battle to be the last one standing and win one million dollars!" He popped up from the pile of cash that had seemingly fallen from nowhere. "Someone's gonna pick this up, right?"
Chris then proceeded to put a wad of cash into "But winning the million dollars won't be easy. Not only is this a reboot, it's a reboot to the face! To win, they'll have to deal with crazier challenges, the island's wildlife, and most importantly, each other!"
"I'm your host, Chris McLean," the host proclaimed, standing proudly on the dock. "And this is Total! Drama! Island!"
Hey what's up I'm here to slay
(The camera zoomed around the island, passing a helicopter containing Chris and Chef. It went up the cliff before going into the water)
Don't know why the rest even bothered to stay
(Audrey and Desmond appear to be swimming away from a shark, before Caleb approaches it from behind and grabs onto its fin)
I know the game and I bought the skill
(Grace is sitting on a log across from Jude and Tracy, although Grace seems to be going through her camera, Tracy is playing some sort of game and Jude is writing something in his notebook)
Crushing player's dreams, yeah
(From behind, Mitchell swipes the camera from Grace's hands as Melaine looks confused. Ben, watching the whole thing, only shakes his head. Alex suddenly falls into frame, having tripped on a log, as he winds up knocking Ben down with him.)
You know the drill
(Theresa is by the dock, only for someone to suddenly tap her on the shoulder. When she turns around, Thayer is right behind her, wearing a mask and trying to be intimidating.)
I wanna be, I wanna be!
(The camera zooms over to show Five outside the mess hall, tuning their guitar. Giselle seems to be attempting to strike up a conversation, although it seems to be for naught as the guitarist doesn't acknowledge her.)
I wanna be famous!
(Quinn is staring at the fire intensely, sitting next to Julia, who seems to have a rather neutral expression on her face before the two make eye contact. The camera pans out to reveal all sixteen contestants sitting around the campfire with Chris and Chef behind the campfire, the host holding a platter of marshmallows. The contestants all whistle in tune, aligning with the whistling at the end of the song.)
"Welcome back!" Chris announced, as excited as he had been at the start. "Now it's time to meet our campers slash victims for the season!"
The first contestant was on a boat being driven by one of the interns. He had a skinny build, pale peach skin, brown curly hair with the ends dyed black, and brown eyes with bags beneath them. He had a band-aid on his nose and one on the left side of his face. He wore a dark blue hoodie that looked like it'd seen better days, ripped pants and black shoes, as well as a visible bandage on his left forearm.
"Our first camper is Alex!" Chris exclaimed.
Audition Tape: Alex Parker
"I'm Alex, and truthfully, this was all my brother Will's idea," Alex stated bluntly. "So I have no expectations of going far. I'll be lucky if I make it past the few days. I'm what's known as a 'klutz' at my school...it's not fun, but they're not wrong."
The camera cuts to himself sitting outside. "Although I guess the big upside is that Will and I get to spend some time apart. Don't get me wrong, we get along just fine, but Mom says it'd be good if we spent some time apart." He sighed. "Not like that'll change my luck in the slightest..."
"Welcome Alex!" Chris introduced. As Alex was walking off the boat, he tripped and fell, hitting his chin on the dock.
"Of course that happens..." Alex groaned as he picked himself up. He quickly felt his chin to make sure nothing was bleeding. When he felt nothing bleeding, he continued walking down the dock before realizing something. "And I'm the first one here..."
"But not for long!" Chris grinned as the camera turned to reveal another boat. On this boat was a slender female with auburn hair in a loose ponytail, with light olive skin and brown eyes. She was wearing a light green shirt over a white collared one, black pants, and gray boots. "Meet Grace!"
Audition Tape: Grace Woodward
"I'm a photographer for my school's newspaper, and I thought this would be a good chance for me to explore and have a new opportunity!" The photographer said with a smile. "Although I was a little skeptical at first, the more I thought about it, the more I realized this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up!"
In the background, a crash could be heard, alongside some inaudible arguing that seemed to be garnering the attention of lots of students at the school.
Grace winced and mumbled something among the lines of "desperate dumbasses..." before looking back with a pleasant smile. "And I just can't wait to meet all the new people!"
"Hi!" Grace beamed, smiling pleasantly at Alex as she held a hand out for him to shake. "I'm Grace, what's your name?"
"Alex," the klutz answered rather bluntly, accepting the handshake.
The male in the third boat had tanned peach skin with messy brown hair, bright blue eyes, and a slightly lean, muscular build. He wore a black leather jacket over a white t-shirt, blue ripped jeans, gray fingerless gloves, black sneakers, and white socks.
"Time for both of you to say hello to Mitchell!" Chris exclaimed.
Audition Tape: Mitchell Conway
"I'm here for two things," Mitchell proclaimed, leaning against a store. "To get a lady, and to come home with that moolah." He chuckled.
The camera then cut to him standing outside the store once again, but this time he was holding a necklace. "I don't intend on letting anyone stop me. After all, who would be able to? I'm smart, I'm fast, and I have that irresistible charm," he winked.
"Welcome, Mitch!" Chris greeted the boy.
"I'm doing splendid, thanks for asking," the brunette answered before looking over at Grace. "And I see that the ladies have already begun to arrive." He winked at her. She looked away.
"And now..." Chris said as the next boat showed up, containing a male with tanned skin, brown hair and brown eyes. He wore an orange helmet with a yellow pattern and an orange jacket halfway zipped up over a black tank top and black shorts. He had black and yellow shoes and wore a yellow bandana around his neck. "Meet Caleb!"
Audition Tape: Caleb Vien
"Taking risks has always been my forte!" Caleb explained with a grin. "And Total Drama is the perfect place for me to take the next step!"
"I like to say that the more risk factor there is, the more worth it the outcome is," the boy continued with a cheerful yet calm grin. "I just want to make the most of this opportunity."
"Besides," Caleb chuckled. "What could possibly go wrong?"
"Alright!" Caleb exclaimed, clearly excited. "Let's get this show on the road!"
"I like the way you think, man!" Chris laughed. 'Finally, someone here knew how to make an entrance,' he thought, although he didn't vocalize that. "Why don't you go interact with the others? Our next camper will be here soon."
"Okay!" Caleb walked over to the others. "Hey guys!"
"Hey, dude," Mitchell replied. "You seem excited."
"Of course I am! I get to be on the reboot of Total Drama Island, and I get to partake in the intense challenges!"
"At least one of us is going to have a good time," Alex commented, stuffing his hands into his hoodie pockets.
The next boat came into view. They had round brown eyes and black hair with two blonde streaks, as well as olive skin. They were rather skinny and wore a dark blue polo shirt over a white long-sleeved shirt, light blue jeans and dark blue and white shoes. Most notably, there was a guitar case by their foot.
"Our fifth contestant is…Five?" Chris said, looking down at the roster as though he were making sure he read that right.
"I thought the show didn't allow five year olds?" Alex questioned with a frown.
"Oh no. That's their name, apparently," Chris clarified. "But meet Five, everyone!"
Audition Tape: Five Thornton
Five was seen strumming their guitar. They didn't say anything, just playing music before realizing the camera was on.
They sigh, putting the guitar off to the side for a moment. "I don't even know how I got into this mess. I assume people there are going to walk all over me and suspect I'm easy to manipulate or something like that. Unfortunately, I don't have time for that. Not like I'd let them anyway."
"Welcome, Five! How do you feel?" Chris asked.
The guitarist looked over at the contestants before looking at the host. "Fine."
"We just got some bundles of joy this season, don't we?" Grace mumbled under her breath.
"What was that?" Caleb piped up, confused.
"Nothing," she commented, as though she were trying to hide a secret.
"Right," a simple voice spoke up. Five was looking at the photographer. Grace waited for them to say something else, but they didn't.
The next boat came into view, containing a teenage girl with ivory skin, blue eyes, and black wavy hair with one strand in the front curlier than the others. She wore a red sweater with the ends torn and a purple heart on fire on it, blue denim shorts, and gray sneakers with what appeared to be writing on them.
"We're nearly at the halfway point! Our next camper is Quinn!" Chris announced.
Audition Tape: Quinn Potter
"As a matchmaker, my main goal is to get couples together, no matter what!" Quinn exclaimed cheerfully. There was also a fire in the background, which Quinn seemed rather oblivious to. "After all, nothing is perfect until they kiss and they feel that spark and it's all uphill from there!" She grinned, rubbing her hands together.
She walked a little bit, writing in a journal. "I'm certain I'll be able to find a couple to matchmake on the island! Ooh, imagine the first kiss between them!" she giggled excitedly. She put her journal away and began to fidget with what looked like a lighter. "Because if there's anywhere that could use my matchmaking skills, it's Total Drama, nyohoho!"
"Nyohoho!" Quinn laughed as she stood on the dock before looking at the other five competitors. "Y'all seem like a fun batch!"
"Welcome Quinn," the host greeted. "Go stand next to the others."
"Thank you, nyohoho!" The girl laughed once again, skipping over to the others.
"That's the weirdest one thus far," Grace murmured to herself, narrowing her eyes.
"Well hey," Mitchell approached Quinn. "Can you help me with my own love life?"
"Is he serious?" Grace blinked in confusion before shaking her head and murmuring something under her breath.
"Of course I can!" Quinn exclaimed eagerly. She tapped a pen against her chin, suddenly going deep in thought. "Ooh! What's your type?"
Mitchell was about to respond before a honk came from the next boat, diverting everyone's attention.
The seventh camper was a female. She had light tan skin, dyed blonde hair in a high ponytail, and brown eyes. She wore a basic green cheerleading uniform, with a green and gold crop top and matching skirt with black flats and white socks.
"Here comes Giselle!" Chris announced.
Audition Tape: Giselle Rayne
"I believe Total Drama would be a great way to meet people!" Giselle said. "I mean, I've watched the show growing up, and when I heard about the reboot, I jumped at the chance!"
"Hi!" Giselle greeted the others with a smile. "I hope we can be good friends here!"
"Sure we can!" Caleb agreed without hesitation.
"Yeah," Grace nodded, less enthusiastically than the boy.
"Alright! We're officially at the halfway point!" Chris announced as the eighth boat pulled into the view. The boat contained a pale, skinny teenage boy with messy black hair and hazel eyes. He wore a blue shirt with blue jeans and black shoes. "Meet Ben!"
Audition Tape: Ben Mullens
"Well isn't this just swell," Ben began. He wasn't even looking at the camera. Instead, he had opted to be reading. "Spending time outside for an unprecedented amount of time with a group of strangers was just my cup of tea."
"But then I lost the bet with my cousin, and here I am," Ben shrugged. He didn't seem mad, or sad. He just didn't seem to care at all. "So I guess I have to compete."
The bookworm stepped onto the dock, only he didn't seem to acknowledge anyone. He had his nose buried into his book, almost refusing to look up.
"Um, Ben? Don't you have anything to say?" Chris asked. The boy looked up at the host, blinked once, and then went back to his book, walking over to the end of the dock where the other seven were standing.
"You know, you could've said something!" The host complained. He could just imagine the ratings declining due to Ben's lack of words.
"Hi!" Giselle exclaimed, smiling at the newcomer. "I'm Giselle! You must be Ben, right?"
"Yes," the bookworm answered, without even looking at the cheerleader. She didn't seem phased by Ben's lack of words. Quinn began scribbling in her notebook, grinning ear-to-ear.
"Alright! Contestant number nine is Melaine!" Chris announced. The boat contained a blonde girl with a pale porcelain skin tone and ocean blue eyes. She wore a pink crop top, blue jean shorts, and black shoes.
Audition Tape: Melaine Ross
"Hiiii! I'm Melaine…I think," the blonde giggled. "And I would love to be on your Drama Island Total show or whatever it's called!"
"It's Total Drama Island," the cameraman spoke up.
"I mean, I have the looks to get me far and the skills~" She giggled once again. "Soooo I think I have a good shot!"
"Hey, gorgeous," Mitchell winked once the actress stepped onto the dock. Melaine giggled. "I'm Mitchell, it's nice to meet you."
"Hi Michael!" The actress replied, causing the thief to blink in surprise at that.
"It's, uh, Mitchell," he repeated.
Melaine didn't seem to have heard him, however. "It's nice to meet you!"
"Did Chris just bring in a new Lindsay and a new Noah?" Grace whisper-asked Alex.
"He probably did," the pessimist replied, letting out a sigh.
"Ahem!" Chris exclaimed as the tenth boat showed up. The boat contained a boy that had short and curly red hair, hazel eyes behind a pair of glasses, and pale skin with freckles present on his cheeks. He wore an orange and yellow sweater with brown pants and white shoes. "Our next contestant is Jude!"
Audition Tape: Jude Willis-Weaver
"My mom said I needed to get out and make more friends," the boy said, awkwardly rubbing his arm . "Back home, I'm not exactly known as a people person, so I don't know why that would change on a tv show."
"Uh… hi," Jude said once he stepped off the boat. He seemed to have hunched shoulders. "I'm Jude."
"Chris did say that before you stepped on the dock," Ben looked up from his book, unamused. "You don't need to be nervous about introducing yourself. The job was already done."
"Oh," the author said, letting out what appeared to be a sigh of relief. "What…book are you r-reading?"
"A book," was the blunt answer Ben gave. He didn't seem invested in making small talk with the new arrival.
"That's awfully non-specific," Jude said. Ben didn't bother to reply, making the author deflate.
"Ignore him, he's just being a jerk," Grace commented in a way that tried to appear comforting, prompting a glare from Ben.
"Ahem! Our next contestant is here!" Chris announced. The eleventh boat contained a female. She had dark brown skin with short, black hair. Her right eye was brown, but her left eye was a bright red color. She wore a black t-shirt underneath a black jacket. The jacket had a red fire emblem on the left sleeve and a red collar. She also wore tan shorts and white sneakers. A pair of red headphones sat around her neck as well.
"Meet Tracy!"
Audition Tape: Tracy Collins
"Man, I dunno why you wouldn't want to compete on Total Drama outside of the hosting situation," Tracy said, her focus on her video game. "All it really is is surviving a bunch of challenges. It's like a video game in real life, man!"
"I'm a gamer, I know how these sort of things go. I think I got this." She soon gave a grin. "New high score! Sweet!"
"Sup, Chris?" Tracy asked, adjusting the headphones around her neck for a moment.
"Not much Tracy, just trying to run a show here," Chris responded. "Why don't you just go stand with the rest here?" He was starting to remember just how time consuming these introductions could be. He had a show to run here after all!
"Gotcha," Tracy nodded before heading over to the others. "Hey, everyone." She noted the guitar case and decided to strike up a conversation with the person she was standing next to. "You like music?"
"You could say that," Five replied nonchalantly.
"That's cool, what kind do you like?" The gamer prompted further, only getting a shrug in response from the guitarist. She frowned at the lack of response.
The next boat soon came into view, as well as the next camper. This contestant had pale skin, wavy black hair, and hazel eyes. She had black lipstick on. For a competition, she seemed to be dressed rather formally, as she wore an elegant hand-sewn dress with different fabrics of different shades of purple and gray, gray leggings, and black heels. In one hand was a figure resembling a doll, and in the other was what appeared to be a needle and thread.
"Say hello to Theresa!" Chris announced.
Audition Tape: Theresa Brown
"Total Drama seems like it would be a magnificent place to meet people," the dollmaker said. She gave a slightly off-putting grin. "I believe it would be perfect to give me some inspiration for my works."
"After all, there is no greater inspiration than the people you meet." She giggled.
"Thank you for the warm welcome," Theresa stated. "I assume we have no other matters to discuss here?"
"Nope, just go stand with the others!" Chris said.
"Splendid," Theresa nodded before standing alongside the other eleven campers.
"I like your dress," Tracy stated.
"Thank you," the dollmaker giggled. "I am certain I could make something." She eyed the gamer's jacket. "And I believe I found some."
"Cool!" Tracy responded, before going back to her game. "Good luck with your craft!"
The next boat came into view, containing a boy with light brown skin, brown eyes, and dyed light teal hair that seemed to be rather spiky. He wore a white shirt with red spots, torn light green pants with clashing red sneakers, and a silver headband with dark blue highlights.
"Lucky camper number thirteen is Thayer!" Chris announced.
Audition Tape: Thayer Jackson
"Hey hey!" The boy greeted with a grin. "I'm known back home for, uh…" he hesitated for a moment, as though trying to figure out how to say what he wanted to. "Scaring people with my pranks. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, people just don't understand my humor. At least, I think that."
"Welcome to the island," Chris told the teenager.
"Thanks man!" Thayer said, holding up his hand for a high five.
As soon as Chris's hand high-fived Thayer's, red seemed to suddenly appear on both of their hands.
"Oh my god!" Giselle yelled out in horror. "He's bleeding! Is there a medical tent around here somewhere?"
"Hahaha, nope, not blood!" Thayer exclaimed, holding up his hand. Strapped to his hand, somehow, was an empty packet. "It's not blood! It's ketchup haha!"
"Very funny Thayer," Chris grumbled in annoyance. He was annoyed that all that effort he had put into his appearance was now in vain because some teenager decided to pull a prank on him with ketchup. This was not going the way he had anticipated at all.
"Aw, thanks Chris!" The prankster chuckled, not catching onto the host's clear annoyance. "I'm glad I could make a good first impression!"
The next boat came into view. The contestant was another male with tan skin, blue eyes and slicked back black hair. He wore a white shirt under a black jacket with a red scarf around his neck.
"Time to meet Desmond, everyone!" Chris proclaimed.
Audition Tape: Desmond Adwood
"As an advisor, people think my role is just to act as a moral compass of sorts. I just want to help people," Desmond said with a smile. "And by giving people advice, I think I can do that well."
"By getting people on the right track, I think that I can play a role in helping an alliance fulfill their goals…I think."
"Welcome Desmond," Chris greeted. Surprisingly, he no longer seemed to have ketchup on him or his attire. "How're you feeling about the competition?"
"I'm feeling fine," Desmond answered. "Slightly nervous, but otherwise fine."
"Eh, there's no need to be worried," Chris shrugged. "Just go compete against the other people on the dock. You'll be fine." He gestured for the advisor to join the rest of the campers.
"Hey Chris?" Caleb asked, seemingly impatient. "Not to be rude or anything, but are we going to start soon?"
"We're down to the last two contestants awaiting introduction," Chris told the campers. "So don't worry Caleb, we'll get started really soon!"
"I don't think I like the sound of that," Jude commented.
"The sound of what, starting or having two more people here?" Desmond prompted. "You can be honest about your opinion."
"Both, kind of," Jude stated quietly. However, the sound of a boat diverted everyone's attention.
The penultimate boat showed up, containing a teenage girl that had a light olive skin tone, black curly hair reaching 3 inches past her shoulders, and innocent light blue eyes. She wore a tie dye shirt with black pants and colorful, Velcro shoes.
"Meet Audrey!" Chris announced.
Audition Tape: Audrey Perkins
"I think Total Drama would be a good experience to meet people," the girl said with an innocent smile on her face. "I think it'll be fun!"
"Hi!" Audrey beamed once she stepped onto the dock.
"Welcome to the island, Audrey," Chris greeted. "Please go and stand with the rest."
"Someone's excited," Caleb commented with a smile.
Audrey stood by the others before noticing the dress "Your dress is pretty!" she exclaimed, looking over at Theresa's attire.
"Thank you, dearie," Theresa replied.
Soon, the last boat came into view. The final contestant had black hair with blue ends underneath a black beanie, green eyes. She wore a blue shirt with black ripped pants, a black jacket tied around her waist, and run down shoes.
"And our final camper is Julia!" Chris exclaimed.
Audition Tape: Julia Hughes
"I've been out on my own for the past four years," the runaway stated, leaning up against a building. "I like to think I can handle myself in whatever situations I find myself in, whoever I'm surrounded by."
"Welcome to the island," Chris said to the runaway. However, Julia walked right past him. He glared at her. "Seriously? You couldn't have made our last introduction any more boring? Think of the ratings here, people!"
Julia said nothing, just standing with the rest of the competitors.
"Alright! Now that we have finished the introductions, let's move onto business," Chris said. "Take a look around you. These people will be your fellow teammates and competitors."
"I think we established the part where we're competitors," Ben said bluntly.
Chris glared at the bookworm for a moment. "Moving on then." He walked over to Mitchell, Quinn, Julia, Caleb, Five, Tracy, Jude and Melaine. "You guys will henceforth be known as The Frogs of Death."
"Death?" Melaine asked. "Are we going to die?"
"Chris wouldn't let any of us die," Tracy replied casually. "I mean, he has a show to run after all."
"And this group over here," Chris said, walking over to the group consisting of Thayer, Ben, Theresa, Audrey, Alex, Grace, Desmond and Giselle. "You will be known as the Ferocious Trout!"
"Go Trout!" Giselle let out a cheer.
"Our team looks splendid so far," Theresa commented with approval.
"Yep," Desmond agreed with a grin. "We got this team!"
"Go unpack. Your first challenge will be in an hour," Chris said.
Ferocious Trout Cabin: Girls Side - Audrey, Giselle, Grace, Theresa
"I call top bunk!" Before anyone could plan anything relating to who got what bunk and who was bunking with who, Audrey immediately ran to a set of bunk beds and began climbing the ladder to get to the top left bunk.
"Would you mind if I bunked with you?" Theresa asked, sitting down on the bunk beneath Audrey's.
The other girl gasped excitedly. "Of course you can! It'll be like a massive sleepover!" She looked at the cheerleader and photographer.
"Yeah, a sleepover," Grace nodded, sounding rather uninterested. She looked at her apparent bunkmate. "Do you want top or bottom?"
"I'll take the top!" Giselle responded. "I'm sure we'll be good friends by the time this is over! Go Trout!"
"Yeah…go Trout," the photographer nodded.
Confessional - Grace
"The girls here seem both nice and…weird," Grace commented. "I like to think I got the most normal of the three to bunk with though."
Ferocious Trout Cabin: Boys Side - Alex, Ben, Desmond, Thayer
"Alright! This cabin looks akin to something from a horror movie," Thayer noted, eyes scanning the area. "I'm almost certa-"
He couldn't finish his sentence as he was knocked to the ground. "Ow…that hurt," he groaned.
"Sorry," Alex piped up from behind him. "That was me."
"Oh! You're fine," the prankster replied, standing up and dusting himself off. "So, does anyone have any bunk preferences? Because if not, I claim a top bunk!"
"I'll take a bottom bunk," Alex said. He walked over to the bottom right bunk. "I don't want to risk falling out of the top bunk…I know that would happen if I took one."
"Hey come on, don't think like that," Desmond stated. "Try to think about this as an opportunity to grow and whatnot."
Ben looked up from his book and looked at the cabin. "Seems rundown," he noted. "Any of the beds could collapse at any moment." He simply walked over to the bottom left.
Desmond just sighed at that.
Confessional - Desmond
"Thayer seems nice," he advisor said, adjusting his scarf with a smile. That smile soon faded. "Alex and Ben, however…they seem sort of unwilling to talk."
Frogs of Death Cabin: Girls Side - Julia, Melaine, Quinn, Tracy
"Alright ladies, does anyone have any preferences?" Tracy asked once the four girls had entered the cabin. "Or do we just wanna do it randomly?"
Julia said nothing, simply going to the top right cabin and putting her bag on it. She then headed back out.
"Okay, that answers that question," Tracy noted before looking at the others. "Uh…Melaine?"
"Huh?" The aforementioned actress piped up in confusion. "Uh, Tabitha, right?"
"Tracy," the gamer corrected. "D'you wanna bunk together?"
"Oh! Of course!" Melaine nodded with a smile. "Can I claim top bunk?"
"Sure!" Melaine nodded. "That's so sweet of you to offer, Tamara!"
"Nyohoho!" A familiar laugh caused both girls to look at Quinn, who was sitting on the bottom right bunk with a grin on her face as she was writing in her notebook. "I can kind of see it!"
"See what?" Melaine asked, before gasping. "Is there something on my face?"
"Uh, no," the gamer replied, shaking her head. "I just wouldn't worry about it."
Confessional - Tracy
"I like to think we got some good people on our team. My cabinmates seem a bit eccentric, but well-meaning overall. I'm feeling good about the experience."
Frogs of Death Cabin: Boys Side - Caleb, Five, Jude, Mitchell
Mitchell sat on the top right bunk. "Well guys and Five, anything on your mind about the show so far?"
"It's our first day," the guitarist replied. They were laying down on the bottom left bunk. "Of course not."
"Yeah, it's like Five said," Jude nodded awkwardly. "We just got here…not much to say."
"Aw come on, this is your chance for a television show acknowledgement and none of you are taking it?"
"Yeah…television," Jude nodded awkwardly.
Confessional - Jude
"This…isn't exactly what I had in mind in regards to making a television debut," he commented. "Actually, um, s-scratch that. I didn't really expect to get on here…"
"I don't know about you guys, but I want to see the challenges!" Caleb exclaimed with a grin. "I feel like he's gotta have something up his sleeve, y'know?"
Suddenly, as if Caleb had been expecting a response, an intercom was heard. "Alright campers!" Chris's voice was heard. "Now that you've had time to settle down, let's get you all ready for your first challenge! Meet me at the dock pronto!"
"Well, I guess that's our sign," Mitchell got off of his bed and landed on his feet. "Good luck."
"You too, dude!" the risk-taker replied.
Confessional - Caleb
"Man, whatever the challenge is, I'm kinda hoping for some level of intensity! Gotta start off with a bang, ya know?"
"Alright campers," Chris greeted once everyone was at the dock. Chef Hatchet was standing beside him. "Welcome to your first challenge!"
"So since you're all unfamiliar with the island, we decided that our first challenge should be used to help you make your way around," Chef continued with the explanation. "Around the island are sixteen eggs. The first team to bring eight of these eggs back to the dock wins immunity!"
"That seems…surprisingly tame," Jude commented under his breath.
"Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised," Giselle agreed.
The host, however, seemed to have heard their comments and only grinned. "Did I forget to mention these are cassowary eggs?"
Confessional - Jude
"I spoke too soon."
"What exactly is a cassowary?" Thayer asked, raising an eyebrow.
"One of the deadliest birds in the world," Theresa answered for him. She let out a giggle. "And what a pretty bird it is too."
"Theresa is correct," Chef stated. "Cassowaries can be over six feet tall, and have large powerful legs. So you may want to take this challenge seriously."
"You will have to bring back eight eggs, each from a cassowary. As Chef mentioned earlier, the first team to have all of their members bring back an egg will win," Chris continued. "But don't drop the egg and don't anger the cassowary. Or you can! Whatever makes the ratings go up!" He chuckled delightfully, seemingly excited.
"When does our time start?" Desmond asked, adjusting his scarf.
"Right now!" Chris said, pulling out an air horn and pressing down on the top. The sixteen teenagers went out in different directions as Chris chuckled. "I love my job."
"Uh, Chris? Did you forget to tell them that they should partner up?" Chef asked, growing a bit concerned.
"...Eh," the host with the most shrugged it off. "It'll be fine in the long run."
The photographer was walking around the island, beginning to feel a sense of frustration. She'd been trying to find a nest with no success thus far.
"Alright, where would I go to find an egg?" Grace asked herself, one hand holding onto the camera around her neck.
"A nest, of course!" Thayer exclaimed from behind her, causing her to jump.
"Geez- can you not do that?!"
"Sorry, heh," Thayer apologized, sheepishly smiling. "But yeah, if you want to find an egg, odds are best if you find a nest first!"
"Brilliant observation, creeper," Grace mumbled under her breath. She cleared her throat and looked at him. "Where would you suggest looking for a nest?"
"Oh," Thayer shrugged. "Anywhere on the island."
"Thanks for the helpful suggestion," she grumbled.
Confessional - Grace
"Thayer is kind of…odd," the photographer noted. "But not as odd as some of the other people here."
Ben was sitting on a log. He was taking a break from the challenge for a moment before he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to look at Melaine.
"Hey, Brendan right?" Melaine asked. "Can you help me? I'm trying to find an egg."
"Hm. We're not on the same team and I'm also trying to find an egg. So no," Ben responded.
"We're not?" The actress blinked. "Since when?"
"Since Chris announced our teams at the dock."
"Oh," Melaine nodded before frowning. "You're being mean about this whole thing."
"I'm not being mean," Ben defended himself, although he didn't bother to look at her. "I'm just saying we're on different teams. I have nothing to gain from helping you."
"Oh," she sighed before giving an innocent smile. "I'm sure we'll break an egg! Bye, Benedict!"
"That's not the cha- never mind, she's gone," Ben said before shrugging.
Confessional - Ben
"There's no way Chris bought in another Lindsay for the humor factor, right?" He asked before shrugging. "Not any of my business, I suppose."
"Okay, there are two eggs over there," Desmond said out loud. Alex, who had been following him, only nodded. "So we should get them now."
The two walked forward, Alex trying to keep some distance from the advisor.
"Okay, here's one egg," the advisor handed the klutz one of the eggs. "And I'll take this one."
Suddenly, there was a rumbling noise. Both boys froze at that, turning around to reveal a cassowary.
"There's only one thing left to do," Desmond said, looking over at Alex with wide eyes.
"And what would that be?" Alex questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"RUN!" The advisor yelled out, sprinting off in one direction with his egg. Alex tried to run off in another direction, although he soon tripped and fell. He dropped his egg, which hatched a baby cassowary.
"That's just great…" he mumbled as he just lay on the ground for a moment. The baby cassowary began biting at his leg.
Back on the dock, Chris was waiting rather impatiently. He had a time slot, after all! He was soon pleasantly surprised when he heard heavy breathing as someone arrived back…
"And Desmond is the first one back!" Chris exclaimed. "That's one for the Trout, none for the Frogs!"
"So what do I do now?" the teenager asked, clearly out of breath. "Outside of waiting for everyone else?"
"Eh," Chris shrugged. "You just answered your own question. Wait for someone else."
Desmond just sighed as the host turned away, both of them waiting for someone else to show up.
Julia was trying to find one of the eggs. She'd gone off on her own for the challenge.
"Hey there," a person spoke up from behind, causing the runaway to turn around. Mitchell was standing with his arms crossed and a slight smirk on his face. "I can't help but notice you wandering around. I was thinking maybe we could partner up."
The girl just blinked at him. "I can handle myself."
"Sure, yeah," Mitchell nodded. "But think about it, we could knock two birds out with one stone if we get eggs together."
Julia blinked before turning away and continuing to walk forward wordlessly. Mitchell followed behind before grinning.
There was a big nest, although there was only one light green egg in the nest. "Aw, sweet! We hit the jackpot!" The thief grinned, stepping closer.
Suddenly, there was a rumbling coming from behind them. They both paused, as if waiting for something or someone to show up.
"Do you hear that?" The thief questioned, looking around.
"Step back," Julia instructed. Mitchell looked up and quickly realized why. An angry cassowary was right in front of them.
"How are we going to get the egg?" he whispered to her, although she gave no response.
A few minutes passed. The thief frowned. "Uh, seriously, what's the-"
Mitchell paused when he realized that there was no egg left in the nest. Julia had taken the only egg. He groaned. "Oh fu-!"
The angry cassowary began to run towards him, causing the thief to let out a scream of his own and make a run for it.
Confessional - Mitchell
"Note to future self, don't anger a cassowary. Also make sure to complete the challenge objective."
"I think I should've been more wary about this," Five spoke to themself, frowning as they continued to walk around the island. Suddenly, a blonde girl walked in front of them.
"Hi! You're Four, right?" Melaine asked, looking over at Five.
"It's Five," the guitarist replied.
"Okay! Well, I was thinking we could complete the thing together-"
"The challenge?" Five repeated before shaking their head. "No way. I can't risk you taking the egg if there's only one in the nest." They turned away from the actress, who was frowning. "I suggest finding someone else to help you."
With that, they walked away, leaving Melaine by herself.
Confessional - Melaine
"I don't get it," she commented with a frown. "Why is everyone being mean?"
"Welcome back to the dock," Chris said to Julia, who just arrived with her egg. "Go and stand on the mat next to Desmond's."
"That was fast," the advisor commented to no one in particular. Julia just shrugged in response.
"Okay, Vien, you got this," Caleb whispered to himself. He was seated on a tree. "On three, jump down, grab the egg and bolt. One..two..three!"
He jumped down and landed face flat on the ground. He groaned, pulling himself up before hurrying over to a nearby nest and grabbing an egg. "Score!"
Suddenly, he heard something behind him. He gulped and turned around, only to be met with a cassowary looking at him. He let out a yell and began sprinting off towards the dock, the cassowary following him.
As Caleb was running, he passed by Tracy and another nest, although he couldn't exactly stop to notice anything around. The gamer picked up an egg from the nest and followed after the gambler.
"Wow, things are starting to heat up!" Chris announced when Thayer, Grace, Caleb, and Tracy came back. "Three for the Trout, Three for the Frogs!"
"Come on, I think we got this," Tracy scoffed. "I mean, sure we may be lacking in numbers right now, man, but I believe in our ability to bounce back!"
"I wouldn't be so arrogant if I were you," Desmond advised. "That could cause-"
"Hey, do you think I could swim one lap around the island while we waited for everyone else?" Caleb interrupted.
Desmond paled. "I wouldn't-"
Grace just rolled her eyes as this went on.
Theresa was humming to herself as she wandered the island. She was less focused on the challenge and just wanted to see one of these birds for herself. Suddenly, a familiar voice could be heard.
"Wait! G-go away! I'm sorry Mr. Bird!"
The dollmaker gave a hum and turned towards the scene. Audrey was curled up, holding her arms above her head and clearly shaking. The cassowary was standing right beside her, seemingly intimidating her. Theresa took note of the scene before coming to a conclusion.
The feathers were pretty, the dollmaker decided. She walked up to the bird, which seemed ignorant to her presence. Without hesitation, she plucked off one of the feathers, diverting the bird's attention from Audrey to Theresa.
"Hm, such delightful feathers," Theresa noted, holding the feather in her hand. "It would bring such joy to add some more of these to a collection."
The bird ran off. The dollmaker frowned at that. "Aww, it was such a pretty bird too," she commented to no one in particular.
Suddenly, the dollmaker found herself being hugged by the other girl, who was still shaking. "That was scary," Audrey sniffled. "Thank you."
"You are most welcome, dearie," Theresa responded, trying to sound soothing although she was clearly taken by surprise.
"Yeah…okay," Audrey nodded, wiping her eyes. She looked over at the nest and gasped, her mood doing an almost complete 180. "The eggs are still there! Let's get them!"
Confessional - Theresa
"It's not anything about Audrey. I just don't want to lose inspiration," she giggled. "Although it would be bad in the long run for her if something had happened."
"And that's another two for the Trout!" Chris announced as Theresa and Audrey arrived back at the dock. "They just need Alex, Giselle, and Ben to get the first win!"
"Should we start to be concerned?" Caleb whispered. Julia shrugged in response.
"Okay, new goal, find an empty nest. There has to be one around here somewhere," Mitchell said, talking to himself. He seemed to have outrun the first cassowary.
Luckily, he found a nest not too far from where he was standing. He gave a smirk, walking up to the nest and immediately taking the lone egg inside of it. He was unaware someone else was present, and he began to head back to the dock.
"Wait, that was-" Jude piped up before Mitchell ran away. The author just sighed in defeat. "Never mind."
"And things are starting to get a bit more heated!" Chris chuckled once the thief arrived at the dock.
"Thanks a lot!" Mitchell commented, glaring at Julia.
"Whoa whoa, what happened exactly?" Desmond piped up, looking over at the other team in concern.
"She left me to fend for myself," Mitchell answered, still annoyed. Julia just shrugged apathetically. The advisor didn't respond to that, only beginning to feel a sense of guilt.
Confessional - Desmond
"Shoot! Now I feel bad for leaving Alex by himself. I hope he's okay."
"You know, I'm getting bored," Chris mentioned to Chef. "How much longer?"
"Probably not much longer, if I had to guess," Chef responded.
Melaine was wandering aimlessly. "Hey! Egg, where are you?" she called out before frowning. "I'm starting to think calling out to it isn't working…"
"Probably not, nyohoho!" The sudden laughter caused the actress to jump in surprise, before turning around and seeing Quinn standing behind her. She was holding onto an egg.
"Oh, hi Quincy," the blonde replied before looking at the egg. "Um, where
"There's a nest nearby!" the matchmaker replied, gesturing behind her. "So help yourself nyoho!"
"Oh…thanks Queen!" Melaine smiled before heading off in that direction.
"And if you need any relationship help, don't hesitate to ask!" Quinn added on before heading to the dock. She didn't get a response.
Five was trying to find a nest, or any sign of an egg anywhere. They could hear two voices nearby. When they walked closer, they saw Ben and Giselle. However, before they could leave, Ben turned and noticed the guitarist.
"Are you looking for an egg?" the bookworm guessed. When Five didn't answer, Ben frowned.
"We're also looking for an egg," Giselle commented, before grinning. "You can join us!" This statement surprised both of the campers.
"They're on the other team," the bookworm commented.
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean we should leave them to do the challenge by themself," the cheerleader replied. "But we're still going to win. Go Trout!"
"I'll pass," Five replied.
"Very well," Ben replied before heading off.
There was a nest, conveniently with three eggs inside, right in front of them.
"Well, I guess there's an egg for everyone!" Giselle commented with a smile.
"Hm, well then," the bookworm picked one up and began to struggle with carrying it. "That's…great…"
Five just blinked at Ben. The bookworm raised an eyebrow. "What..?"
"Nothing I want to talk about," the guitarist replied, picking up an egg of their own.
"Hey, Ben, we can still win!" Giselle whisper-exclaimed to the bookworm, making him look at her for a moment before nodding. She turned to look at Five. "Good luck with the competition!" With that, she headed back towards the dock with Ben following her, both of them carrying a cassowary egg.
Five looked at the egg in their hands and then back at the Trout, who were heading to the dock. They headed in that direction as well.
"It is now neck and neck!" Chris announced with a grin. Everyone was standing on their respective mats except for Alex and Jude. "Seven for the Trout, seven for the Frogs!"
"Yeah, we know," Ben commented again. "I'm sure we can see for ourselves how many people on our team are present."
Chris just glared at the teenager once again.
"Okay, uh, if you were an egg where would you be?" Jude asked himself out loud. He seemed to be pacing back and forth.
"Have fun with that," Alex piped up, not far from where Jude was. "I'm probably losing this anyway."
"Uh, don't say that necessarily," the author said. "We can still get an egg each."
"We're on opposite teams."
"Oh," Jude blinked. "Don't think of it like that. If we both finish, we can tie and nobody goes home this round! It'll be a win-win for both of the teams!"
"I doubt that'll happen," Alex sighed.
"Hey, uh," Jude hesitated. He was trying to lighten the mood, but he didn't know how to do so. However, something soon caught his eye as he grinned. "A nest! With two eggs!" He handed one to Alex.
"Thanks," the klutz murmured quietly.
"Alright, let's get going," Jude said as he began to head back towards the dock. The klutz just followed behind the author.
"Where's Alex?" Giselle whispered.
"Right behind him, supposedly," Grace answered.
"I don't see him," Giselle stated. "I'm beginning to worry."
"JUDE! RUN FASTER!" Caleb yelled out. "ALEX IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU!"
"Huh?" Jude paused, just short of the finish line. "Alex? Where?"
Unfortunately for the Frogs, this gave Alex time to catch up to Jude. The aforementioned klutz then stepped foot onto the red mat, and was immediately overwhelmed by the sound of cheering teenagers.
"And the Ferocious Trout win!" Chris announced enthusiastically.
Jude blinked before noticing that some of his teammates were glaring at him. "Sorry guys…"
"I doubt you are," Five said simply, looking away from the author.
Chris chuckled at the sight. "Frogs of Death, I'll give you some time to discuss your votes. I'll see you at the campfire ceremony tonight."
Frogs of Death Cabin: Girls Side - Julia, Melaine, Tracy
"Man, I dunno," Tracy commented. "This is kinda tough. Quinn isn't exactly the most…present player."
"I thought Jack let Adam go first?" Melaine piped up in confusion. "But Quinlan helped me earlier!"
"What do you think, Julia?" Tracy asked. The runaway gave a noncommittal hum.
"I'll vote the way I want," Julia answered. She stepped outside of the cabin.
"Well," the gamer blinked before looking back at the actress. "I guess we'll just decide at the ceremony?" Melaine nodded at that.
Frogs of Death Cabin: Boys Side: Porch - Caleb, Mitchell
"So you're voting for her just because of one thing?" Caleb repeated, making sure he had heard the thief's statement correctly.
"You bet, dude," Mitchell confirmed, nodding his head before aching. "I mean, that was not cool."
"Ah, okay," Caleb nodded, as though he understood.
Confessional - Caleb
"I don't think I get it," he said before grinning. "But man, was our challenge cool today! Just a bummer we have to vote someone out first." he deflated a bit.
"So, man, who're you voting for?" Mitchell asked. "I told you who I'm voting for, seems fair you do the same."
"Man, I feel like there's some good arguments out there for different people," the gambler commented. "I'm kind of torn between Jude and Quinn, if I'm being honest. I know Jude lost us the challenge, but something about Quinn rubs me the wrong way."
Mitchell gave a hum of acknowledgement. "Well-"
"You don't think anyone will vote for me, right?" Caleb asked suddenly.
"Nah, you're probably fine my guy," the thief replied.
Back of the Cabins- Five, Jude
"Five, I swear I'm sorry." Jude felt like he was practically begging at this point. "I really want to know how I can make it up in future challenges."
"I'd go ask the others," the guitarist advised, not listening to Jude at this point. "I've decided."
"Please-"
"What makes you think I'm going to change my mind just because you said please?"
Jude had nothing to say to that. He seemed taken aback and just stared at the other Frog, and when he tried to speak words failed.
"That's what I thought." The statement caught the redhead off guard as Five stood up. "I'll see you at the ceremony."
He had to find the others. Maybe he could find someone willing to give him a chance.
At least, he could hope so.
Confessional - Five
"He had his shot. He blew it. That told me everything I needed to know. I can't trust him to perform well in future challenges if he's willing to let the other team win today."
Frogs of Death: Girls Side: Porch - Julia, Quinn
Once Julia had stepped out of the cabin, she was greeted by Quinn's presence, although she didn't acknowledge the runaway at first. She continued to play with the lighter in her hand, staring intently at the fire.
"Oh, hey, nyoho!" Quinn greeted, only to be met with silence. "So, uh, what's your type?" she asked, almost as though trying to ease the obvious tension. Like the previous comment, she was met with silence.
"You don't talk much, do you?" The matchmaker asked, prompting yet another shrug from the other girl. "Well, uh, that's okay! Sometimes-"
The overhead suddenly turned on, and Chris's voice became audible. "Attention, Frogs! It's time for the elimination ceremony! Please make your way towards the campfire!"
"I guess that's our sign to go," Quinn said, pocketing her lighter. "Good luck, nyoho!" The laugh sounded a lot more forced than it had previously been.
"Thanks," the runaway replied, beginning to make her way towards the campfire.
Campfire Ceremony - The Frogs of Death
The walk felt treacherous. Not because of the length, but because of the nerve-wracking question of who. Who had everyone decided needed to go first?
Nobody spoke the entire walk. It was nighttime now, and the eight teenagers found themselves seated at the campfire.
"Frogs, welcome to your first elimination ceremony of the season," Chris said once the eight contestants were sitting on stumps by the campfire. In the front row sat Jude, Melaine, Quinn and Tracy. Five, Julia, Caleb and Mitchell sat in the back row. "I'm almost sorry to say one of you will be heading home."
"Almost?" Five questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Yes, almost," Chris repeated. "Because this is where you guys get to decide the fate of your teammates! So who will go home or stay? I have no idea until you all cast your vote."
"Jude, you seem to be struggling to connect with your team and was the last member to bring an egg to the dock, and you let Alex get to his team first," Chef said. "Maybe you should've done something to prevent that."
Confessional - Jude
"Okay…so I messed up today," he said, rubbing the back of his neck. "I don't think there's any way around it."
"Quinn, people are slightly freaked out by your behavior," Chef continued. The girl didn't seem to be listening, only staring intently at the flames.
"Julia, you allowed your teammate to deal with an angry cassowary on his own," the co-host continued.
"Yeah, not cool!" Mitchell piped up, glaring at the runaway. Julia just looked at him with a stoic expression on her face.
"I didn't say you could talk, pretty boy!" Chef called out.
Confessional - Julia
"I was just looking out for myself. That's how you survive the competition."
"Caleb, you were the one to yell out to Jude," Chef added. The gambler looked down. "So one might pin the team's loss on you."
Confessional - Caleb
"Well, yeah, but how was I supposed to know he'd stop?"
"The ballots have been cast, and your votes have been counted," Chris said with a grin. He took the platter of marshmallows. "If you get a marshmallow, you're safe."
"There's no toxic marshmallow if we're eliminated, right?" Five asked.
"Nope, no toxic marshmallows this season. But if you do not receive a marshmallow, your time here is up, and you will have to follow me to the dock of shame and immediately leave the island. Let's begin," the host continued.
"The following campers are safe," Chris said, holding the platter. "...Tracy!"
"Sweet!" The gamer exclaimed, catching her marshmallow and popping it into her mouth.
"Melaine!"
"Hm?" she hummed in confusion before the marshmallow hit her in the face. "Owww, that hurt!" she added on, rubbing her nose.
"It's a marshmallow," Chris said. "Moving on…Caleb!"
The boy grinned. "Awesome!" he cheered as he caught it. "Another day, another challenge!"
"Mitchell!" The thief gave a smirk as he caught his marshmallow.
"Five!" Five just nodded as they were tossed a marshmallow.
"Only two marshmallows remaining, and three campers left," Chris looked at Julia, Jude and Quinn. Quinn had started to pay slight attention, bouncing her leg as she glanced between the marshmallows on the plate and the campfire itself. Jude seemed to be wide-eyed and sweating, and Julia just crossed her arms. "And the person not in the bottom two is…Julia." He tossed her the marshmallow.
Now holding the last marshmallow, he looked over at the bottom two. "Quinn. Jude. This is the final marshmallow. And it goes to…" he trailed off, holding up the marshmallow. Both of the teens looked nervous as dramatic music began to play in the background.
Once the dramatic music was done playing, Chris grinned and threw it to…
"Quinn."
"Nyohoho!" Quinn laughed and threw the marshmallow into the fire.
"Aww man," the author looked down.
"Jude, please follow me to the Dock of Shame," Chris instructed the boy, who stood up defeatedly and followed the host to the Dock of Shame.
Final Confessional - Jude
"Yeah, I must've messed up pretty bad," he sighed. "But if I have to root for anyone…I dunno, maybe Desmond. Even if he wasn't on my team, he seemed nice."
"So uh," Jude said once he was on the dock. "Are you sure you couldn't have gotten a boat or something?" He rubbed his arm awkwardly.
"Nope! Much more fun this way," Chris chuckled. Out of nowhere, the Drone of Despair came by and picked the author up by the back of his sweater, causing him to start screaming as the drone flew off into the distance.
"Huh, I wasn't sure that the drone would work. Glad it did," the host said before turning to face the camera. "And that concludes our premiere! What's next in store for our campers? Will Alex ever cheer up? Can the Frogs bounce back? And who will go home next?" He asked aloud.
"Find out all this and more, next time on Total!
Drama!
ISLAND!" Chris exclaimed, holding his arms up as the camera zoomed out to show the entirety of the island.
Vote Distribution
Jude: 5 (Five, Julia, Melaine, Quinn, Tracy) - Eliminated
Quinn: 2 (Caleb, Jude)
Julia: 1 (Mitchell)
15/16 Remaining
Reasoning for Elimination: The problem I had with Jude was that he didn't seem to fit into any of the plotlines I had in mind for the season and I didn't really enjoy writing his scenes. He did get the short end of the stick in that regard. I apologize to any Jude fans he may have gotten in this first chapter.
A/N: One down, twelve to go. For anyone asking about why I changed up the challenge…surprise. I did try to write the original reboot S1E1 challenge, but I struggled with that so I decided to do a little bit of switching around for some of the challenges, and the cassowary challenge just happened to be the first.
