Ace walked into his new dorm room and looked around. As he looked in from the doorway, he could tell that it was very nice. His eyes scanned it as he noticed on the right side was a simple and nice warm bed. Not large, but large enough for him. On that side behind the bed was a closet for his things, again not large but large enough. He saw on the opposite a desk that was against the wall with a perfect working area, as well as in the back he saw that there was a lovely mini fridge and a microwave on top of it.
As he moved around the room, Ace found some basic school clothes in the closet. That was going to be more than a bit helpful, given that he needed something to wear, and he figured going shirtless was a no-go in school. Everything seemed different. He even noticed a small TV mounted on the wall. He spent a good moment trying to figure it out, but with no success, he gave up and headed out to wander around.
He walked to the track and went for a run, but running in a circle felt kind of boring to Ace, so he gave up on it and started to head into town.
The city around the academy was larger than any he had ever been in before, or at least larger than he could remember. The steel and glass buildings towered over him, leaving him in awe. He wandered along the storefronts, people giving him odd looks, most likely because his outfit caused him to stand out a lot in this city. Being shirtless but also wearing a hat was not the norm.
As Ace walked, he noticed an old lady struggling to carry two large bags of rice. He paused for a moment, considering the situation, then walked over with a friendly smile. "Ma'am, I think those bags look rather heavy. Do you mind if I help out, say in exchange for a simple meal in exchange?" he asked, his stomach growling as a reminder that he hadn't eaten since he arrived. He also realized he had yet to find the cafeteria at the academy.
The old lady looked up at him, her eyes widening with surprise and relief. "Oh, thank you, young man! I could use the help."
Ace took the heavy bags with ease, his strength making the task simple. "No problem at all. Happy to help," he said, falling into step beside her. "So, where are we headed?"
"Just a few blocks away," she replied, smiling warmly. "My house is nearby. You're not from around here, are you?"
Ace chuckled. "You could say that. I just got to the city today and I'm still figuring things out."
As the two of them walked, the old lady was kind enough to give him a lot of information. She told him about all the stores, all the landmarks, the places that were best to go eat at. It was rather overwhelming, but Ace did his best to take in all the information. He nodded as he listened until they got to her home.
He smiled as he carried the bags into her house and put them into her kitchen putting away the heavy bags for her as well. "There you go ma'am," he said politely as he finished helping her.
"Thank you again for all your help," the old lady said with a smile, "Now please, make yourself comfortable. I'll fix us something to eat, it shouldn't take me too long to make a lovely meal."
Ace walked into the living room that was connected to the kitchen. As he looked around the room, he could see the numerous photos around. He looked closely at the photos that were all in this same place going back many years. He smiled as he could tell that a very close family lived there, as he saw pictures of what he guessed were her kids and grandkids.
As he waited, he slowly could smell the mixture of food coming from the kitchen. The smell of the food only served to remind him, just how hungry he happened to be. He waited for a moment as he then walked into the dinning room and sat at a small table. He saw the old lady bring the food looked at the large plate of curry and smiled, as he was very hungry and this meal should help deal with that for a while at least.
"Here you go, eat up and enjoy it," the old lady said with a kind tone to her voice as she served the food. "I hope you don't mind spicy curry, it is one of my favorite things to cook."
Ace took a bite and could taste the wonderful mixture of flavors. He loved spicy food and this was great. He stopped for a moment as he looked at the old lady, "Thank you so much ma'am, this is great, and amazing. It really hit the spot. Oh, my name is Ace, by the way, ma'am."
"It is nice to help make you a meal Ace, I am Nina. It is always so nice to see someone enjoy your cooking."The old lady chuckled, pleased by his enthusiasm. "So Ace, what are you doing in town, starting school, randomly visiting as a tourist?"
Ace paused for a moment, considering how much to share. "I'm a new student at U.A. Academy. Just arrived today, actually. Still getting used to everything."
The old lady's eyes widened with interest. "U.A. Academy? That's wonderful! You're going to be a hero then?"
"Yeah, that is what the goal is, I want to do it my own way, and find my path, but I do want to try this hero stuff out," Ace said with a nod of his head, "I figure I can learn a lot from the academy, but I haven't started so I am not sure what to expect exactly."
"I see, well young man, I think you have a good heart. My son is a cop in the city, and he helps out at the academy from time to time."She informed him with a warm smile. "From what I can tell, you have what it takes to be a great hero. A hero in training is welcome anytime."
Ace felt a surge of gratitude. "Thank you. That means a lot to me."
Ace returned to eating his meal, as he thought about it. He asked and learned more about her family, and got to know Nina better as well. It turned out this was a really good person. Someone who helped out a lot in the community, and did her best to be a role model for her kids and grandkids. It was really inspiring to the teen to get to talk to her. He also found her cooking to be amazing, which was a great bonus.
"Thank you again for the meal, it was just what I needed," Ace said as he finished up the last bite.
The old lady smiled warmly. "I'm glad you enjoyed it, dear."
Ace paused for a moment, "I might have to try some of this charity work you were talking about, see where I can help out in the community, and do my own thing to become my own unique hero."
Her smile grew even wider. "I am very glad to hear that, it is the small things that often go overlooked. Take care, Ace, and good luck with your studies at U.A."
Ace nodded, tipping his hat to her. "Thank you. Take care, ma'am."
As he left the kind old lady's home he decided to take another walk, the purpose was unknown, but he figured that if he wandered around and saw things he would have a better understanding of the city, the people who lived there and where stuff was. He figured that would help him when he needed to go out into the city, and when he wanted to find a certain store perhaps even.
As he wandered around, he made sure to talk to people, showing his charisma as he talked to them about many random things as he made small talk. This too was very helpful as he got to understand the people of the town much better, and he felt more at home in this city. As part of the city, he also got in a good bit of walking around the city. Which to Ace was a whole lot more fun than walking in a circle around the same thing over and over again.
As he returned to the school, he decided to test out the training area again. The outdoor section had various equipment and tracks for different exercises. He tried everything, pushing himself to explore his abilities further. After a bit of walking and working, he started to get bored. As he got bored, an old habit came out. He ended up falling asleep as he was standing basically in the middle of the track.
He stood out quite a bit but didn't notice anything until he was almost run over by a third-year student with periwinkle blue hair. Nejire Hado had never seen anything like this—a person sleeping while standing up in the middle of the track.
She stopped just in time, her eyes wide with surprise. She walked up and shook him gently. "Hey, um are you okay," she asked firmly and loudly to hopefully wake him from his odd slumber.
As he was shaken, Ace stirred, blinking awake as he realized someone was talking to him. "Huh? Oh, sorry about that," he said, rubbing his eyes. "I guess I dozed off. It I think is an old bad habit of mine."
Nejire laughed, her curiosity piqued. "You were standing up and sleeping! That's impressive. I'm Nejire Hado, by the way. Are you new here?"
Ace nodded, giving her a friendly smile. "Yeah, I just got here today. I'm Ace."
"Nice to meet you, Ace!" she replied, her energy infectious. "So, what brings you to the track?"
"I was just checking out the training area and ended up here," Ace explained. "Still getting used to everything."
Nejire nodded enthusiastically. "Well, welcome to U.A.! I am going to guess you are one of the new first year students. Now if you need help or have any questions about life at UA, I am more than willing to help you in any way I will try. We are all here to help each other reach our goals and dreams after all."
Ace felt a wave of gratitude. "Thanks, Nejire. I appreciate it."
"No problem! Just try not to fall asleep in the middle of the track again," she teased with a wink before heading off.
Ace blinked as he looked at the older female for a moment. He found that exchange to be different, but not bad. Maybe if that was how things were here, it was going to be pretty good. He could talk and at least get along with the other students at the school. He started to run some more and caught up with Nejire.
"Miss um Nejire, I was wondering if you could do me a big favor," Ace asked as he walked with her step for step. "I was wondering if you could show me the way to the cafeteria, you see, I have no clue at all where it is, and I am rather hungry. I had a good meal earlier, but I am hungry again already."
Nejire stopped for a moment chuckling softly as she looked at the stranger. "Yeah of course, I can. In fact, I'm heading there soon myself. How about I take you there now?"
Ace's face lit up with relief. "That would be great. Thanks, Nejire."
"No problem at all! Follow me," she said, gesturing for him to come along.
As they walked, Nejire chatted animatedly about the school, the classes, and some of the other students. Ace listened intently, absorbing all the information.
"This is the cafeteria, it has wonderful food, and I am sure it will fill you up completely," Nejire said as she walked into the building with him, the layout was impressive as was the smell of the food being cooked. "There are plenty of options, I am sure you will find something you like."
Ace nodded his head as he was looking around the cafeteria, it was so large and the smells were so wonderful. He looked over and gave Nejire a smile, "Now thank you for all your help, I am really glad to have found this place."
"Anytime, Ace! If you need anything else, just let me know," she said with a smile before heading off to join some friends.
Ace found himself at a table not too much later with a huge meal, apparently made by someone called Lunch Rush. The cook had given him a thumbs up, but that was the only communication they'd had. Ace took his first bite and loved it, quickly devouring his meal. Between this and the earlier meal, he was having a day of great food. He ate a lot, and, once again, during the middle of his meal, Ace fell asleep with his fork in his hand, his head falling right into the middle of his food.
Nejire, Tamaki, and Mirio, who were nearby, were stunned to see the strange shirtless youngster sleeping in such a peculiar style.
Nejire tilted her head, her blue eyes wide with curiosity. "Wow, he fell asleep again! And right in the middle of eating! Is he okay?"
Tamaki, shy and always somewhat anxious, peered at Ace from behind Mirio. "That's... unusual. He must be really tired to fall asleep like that."
Mirio, ever the optimist and always up for a laugh, chuckled and walked over to Ace. "Hey, buddy! You can't sleep here! You'll miss out on all this great food," he said, gently shaking Ace's shoulder.
Ace stirred, blinking sleepily as he lifted his head from the plate, bits of food stuck to his face. "Huh? Oh, sorry about that," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes and straightening up.
Nejire smiled, this was the second time that she had found him sleeping in a odd and unusual way. There was somehow something kind of charming about it. "So, have a long day today?" she asked with a friendly tone.
Ace nodded sheepishly, wiping his face with a napkin. He looked over at the two people he didn't know at the moment,"I am Ace, it is a pleasure to meet you," he said before returning his attention back to Nejire. "Yeah,it has been a really busy day, and a lot has happened, but that is mostly just a bad habit of mine.".
Mirio grinned widely. "Nice to meet you, Ace! I'm Mirio, I think you already meet Nejire, and the shy guy over there is Tamaki. We're all third-years here at U.A."
Tamaki gave a small wave, still looking a bit apprehensive. "Hi."
Ace smiled at them, feeling grateful for the friendly faces. "Nice to meet you all. Thanks for waking me up. I guess I have a habit of falling asleep anywhere."
Mirio laughed. "Well, just make sure you finish your food first next time! Come on, why don't you join us? We can tell you all about U.A."
Ace's eyes lit up with interest. "I'd like that, thanks."
Ace took his plate and walked over to join the three of them. As they settled in, he began to explain how he didn't remember much of his past, only waking up that morning in a park. He recounted taking down a group of robbers by himself, being recommended by the local police for the school, getting his dorm room, and then wandering around the city before finally having a meal with them.
They listened intently, and Nejire's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "That's an incredible story, Ace! And you took down a group of robbers all by yourself? That's amazing!"
Mirio nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that's pretty impressive. You must have some serious skills."
Tamaki, still shy but intrigued, looked at Ace with a bit more interest. "What kind of power do you have?"
Ace smiled and held up his hand. "This is what I can do," he said as his finger turned into fire for a moment, the flames dancing in the air. "I can turn into flames, completely. I don't remember the details, but I know how it works."
Nejire leaned in closer, her eyes wide. "Wow! That's so cool! You're like a walking fireball!"
Mirio grinned. "That's a powerful ability, Ace. You're going to fit right in here at U.A."
Tamaki nodded, a bit more at ease now. "It's... really unique. I'm sure you'll do great things."
Ace felt a warmth that had nothing to do with his powers. These new friends were accepting him without hesitation, and it made the transition to this new world feel a lot easier.
"Thanks, guys," Ace said sincerely. "I'm looking forward to learning more and hopefully becoming a great hero."
Nejire beamed. "We'll help you however we can! And don't worry, you'll get used to everything here in no time."
