Jack sat at the kitchen island, with his bottle of brandy sitting on it neatly. He sat upset and lost in thought after discussing the events of that day. It was the first time he has actually revealed that his last family member was killed that day. He remained motionless, staring at the dull and empty marble floor.

Then he heard a door slam. It was Skye, entering with a bit of a temper. "I can't believe it. He was right there then made fun of me."

Jack responded in a robotic and low-level voice. "He was taunting since he was bored."

"What? No, it wasn't him. Just some dumb shopkeep with his prejudiced views, since I'm a fox. Called me a pelt and everything. Just wanted a pack of crisps."

"Mmm, sounds bad." Jack added, with the same enthusiasm, or lack thereof, as before.

Skye calmed down, realising that what was probably her only friend at this point was down in the dumps. "Hey, he wasn't that bad." She said, trying to cheer him up. "Jack, come on, cheer up. I have waffles!" She declared with the biggest grin she has ever given.

"Don't want waffles now. Maybe later."

"Jack, tell me what happened." She turned her head slightly and noticed the bottle of brandy that was almost empty. "You drank all of this?" She opened her eyes wide in shock. "How are you not on the floor passed out?"

"I can hold my glass well, thank you very much." Skye huffed when she heard that.

"That's it. You're taking a cold bath." Jack instantly raised his head and looked in terror at the fox in front of him. The motion of his head was so quick that it caused him to tip the chair and fall to the floor. "See, always works." She chuckled a bit. "You okay, partner?"

Jack groaned a bit then started to pick himself up. "Yeah, yeah, I'm good." He rested his paw on his back, specifically where there was a bit of pain. "That won't get better when I wake up."

"Sorry about that. You were just down in the dumps again."

"Yeah, spoke to Judith a few hours ago, I don't know if she will help or not. I guess we will find out soon."

"What happened?"

"Nothing. I tried to persuade her and she said she will consider."

"Really? Is that why this bottle is almost empty?"

"Oh, that was my err... 'liquid courage' lets just say."

"What did you need courage for, player?"

"What? No, nothing of the sort." Jack sighed. "I gave her a quick story."

"Mmm, must've been very quick, although I thought that the story of how you learned of Spectre was a bit lengthy. Basically a whole chapter in your story."

"Yeah, that it was. Wait, how did you know?"

"Lucky guess? Also, it's the only one where you get depressed to the point where I have to threaten you with a bath." Both chuckled at the last part of the sentence.

"But really, why? Why does it hurt you so much? You saw many dead bodies after and before, some just as violently disfigured as the ones that were there, so what makes that different?"

Jack looked around, making sure that there was no listening devices on. When he mentally confirmed they were all off, he asked a simple question. "Can I trust you?"

"Of course, why wouldn't you?"

"What about with something even the company cannot know?"

"Okay, that piqued my interest, spill the beans."

"The rabbit that was fed his own heart, covered in so much blood that he was unidentifiable, remember him?"

"Yeah, threw a massive wrench in the case, why?"

Jack sighed and looked away from Skye as he was about to say the sentence he has formulated in his mind. "That was my brother. My last family member. That's why it hurts so much. I saw it all happen and the events are sill hurting me."

Skye froze for a second and kept her mouth slightly ajar. She then hugged the jackrabbit. "You dumb rabbit, you should've told me that he was your brother." Jack felt a pleasant warmth radiate from her. "Your secret is safe with me, don't worry."

Jack reciprocated the hug. "Thanks Skye." When the two let each other go, Jack smiled. "So about those waffles."

"You cheeky rascal. Sure we can get them going."

"Nice."

"But remember, we are partners in this, you can trust me as I trust you, don't forget that."

"I won't and thanks for supporting me."

"Last time I checked, you're supporting me here."

"That's not what I meant."

"I know what you meant, can't your lover mess about with you from time to time?"

"Yeah, just..." He sighed, "still a bit ..."

"Whole brother thing? I'd offer you a beer but you seem to have gone a step further."

"Har-dee-har."

"Question, have you ever considered being me casual to other mammals?"

"Yes, but I guess I am a bit pessimistic now, also I fear that it could be a horrible spiralling staircase that just keeps going."

"Really? Do you think that acting more casually you will become a cold-blooded murderer and sociopath?"

"Maybe."

"Well, I'm screwed then."

"Nonononono, not what I meant."

"You know that such thoughts are very irrational and well to put it plainly very stupid."

"I know, I know, just it feels possible. I mean we all have that line we will refuse to cross. For a lot it is the act of killing, for me it is being casual and friendly, it could snowball further."

"Is it because of how he acts?"

"I guess most of it stems from that and my brother."

"Well, I respect a mammal who can restrict himself due to his morals."

"Hard to call these morals at this point."

"Hey, just because you see the world differently to me, doesn't make it wrong, contrary to popular belief. I mean I don't approve of you using live ammunition but it is sparingly so I can't complain." She snorted.

Jack held his paws up. "I'm a smaller mammal so I need the better firepower."

"Stop with the excuses, we both know that if we went in the ring, you would win." She retorted, knowing well he had no comeback.

Jack sat for a second, "You don't know that." As she predicted, he commented that. She then threw boxing gloves that were his exact size. She hoped for the exact same response as always. "You know I can't hurt you."

"I hear the same excuses every time."

"Because they are true." It was the same dance they had every time this came up. The two now actually took the situation as a joke but they both knew that the rest of the agency wanted to know who was better.

"Well, I wouldn't hurt you too." Skye finally said after a few seconds. "So, you wanted waffles."

"So now you used it to change the subject."

"If it worked once it would work tw-" Skye was about to finish her statement but it was cut off by an explosion from across the street.

Both jumped onto their feet. "What was that!?" They yelled in unison. Both ran to the front door, grabbing their badges and weapons. Skye opened the door, letting Jack run past. They surveyed the area and didn't see anything or anyone out of the ordinary.

Jack started sprinting to the burning building, but Skye stopped him. "Let me go, there's someone in there, I can't let them die." Skye raised her paw reluctantly.

"Don't get killed yourself." She mumbled under her breath. She decided to look around to see if there was anyone who could've been responsible. She didn't see anyone so instead started to focus her attention on the wounded. After tending to a few, panic died down and thus Skye had to try and stop the crowds from getting too close. Crowds started to approach in curiosity. She could only stop them for so long, so she was glad that she saw a few police cars finally arrive. "What took you so long?"

"Ma'am, that is not how you speak to an enforcer of the law."

"Wolford, don't give me that tone. Secure the perimeter, we don't want any other injuries or casualties."

Wolford, Fangmeyer, Grizzoli and Mchorn all looked at each other, shrugging. Then Wolford spoke up, being the highest ranking officer there. "Ma'am, we know what to do, now could you please leave to let us do our job."

"Well, my partner is currently in the building because you four are so slow. By the way, Skye Frost, ZIA." She held out her badge. The police officers froze for a second.

Wolford then spoke, "What is the ZIA doing here?"

"Well, we want to try and capture the international threat known as 'The Spectral Showman'."

"Heh, makes sense. Well, err do you know what happened here?"

"No, we were in the area as the explosion occurred. We rushed to help as much as possible."

From behind, one of the officers muttered loudly, "Fucking ZIA, always there were they aren't needed."

Skye turned her head askew and looked at the mammal who spoke. McHorn didn't react to the stare. "Care to enlighten me, McHorn? I'm pretty sure Bogo would love to hear what you have to say."

"All I'm saying is you're snooping around knowing things and listening in to stuff you shouldn't."

"Such as a probable terrorist attack or a possible sociopath trying to start another mass shooting? Those kinds of stuff? Also do you know how false that myth is? Like that would be extremely expensive to keep running."

"Doesn't stop you from doing it."

Skye was about to respond but heard a yell from the building. It was a scream. Everyone turned to see a kit being pushed down through a window. A cheetah then ran on the window sill to try and get to the roof. Skye ran to try and catch the kit. However, she needn't do that as when they all looked up, they saw Jack holding the kit by the leg. "Don't worry, I got you." He then looked down. "HEY! I'D LOVE SOME HELP OVER HERE! ALSO WHERE IS THE FIRE BRIGADE?"

Wolford responded. "Stuck in traffic, I know they can just go around and all but it's really busy." There was a little bit of embarrassment in the wolf's voice. He then proceeded to run up the stairs to try and help.

After a few minutes, he reached the top and helped pull the kit up. "You're safe now." Jack stated. He then looked around himself. "Well, more safe." He then turned to the officer. "So, what took you so long this time? You were basically around the corner."

"We responded as soon as we could, don't do this to me, I really try my best."

"I'll be honest, it's not you I'm worried about."

"What do you mean?"

"You always put your best foot forward but get dragged back by your colleagues."

"Oh, they're not that bad."

"They are, I just don't know how to prove it yet." That was when it clicked for Jack. He had to find the source of the money. "I actually, I might. We will discuss it later. Now let's leave the inferno that resides in this building."

"Buddy just speak English."

"Lets avoid getting burned by the fire."

"I know what you said." Wolford picked up the small kit and all ran outside, trying to not be consumed by the flame.

At the bottom, Jack heard someone starting to cough. "There's someone else here, I'll help 'em."

"Stay safe. And don't die." Wolford left the building with the kit on his arms.

Outside, Skye ran over to the timber wolf and instantly questioned him. "Where is Jack?"

"He is helping someone else he heard."

"Of course he is. Oh why is he like this." Skye then ran into the apartment complex.

Back inside.

"HELP!"

"Don't worry, I'm here!" Jack yelled out, following the source of the noise.

"THANK YOU, I'M STUCK IN THE BATHROOM!"

Jack rushed to the room and arrived seeing a door blocked by burning rubble. "Stay calm, I'll help you out." The rubble was a large wooden beam and a few pieces of concrete. He taken off his blazer and threw it onto the wooden beam before pulling it towards him. The beam budged a little bit but was stuck on the ceiling, where the end remained. "Damn it."

"What happened?"

"Nothing, just stay away from the door for a second." Jack looked at a point where a few rocks held the beam up. It looked like if it was slightly damaged by some means, it would slide down just enough to be able to be moved away.

"Err, should I be worried?"

"If you're not next to the door, no." Jack taken his blazer off of the wooden beam then pulled out his pistol. He fired it at the edge of the wooden beam, causing it to budge slightly and slip, dropping it enough to stand only on the floor. Jack then pulled the wooden beam, burning his paws a little bit. The beam fell and crashed onto the ground. Jack then redirected his attention to the concrete, pushing it away as best as he could. After a few minutes, he finally revealed the door, letting it be opened. "You're free now." Jack huffed, opening the door.

"Thank you." The mammal inside yelled out. The two then walked towards the exit, avoiding whatever fire was around.

By the exit, the floor creaked. "Is there a basement to this building?"

"Yes."

"Fuck." The floor collapsed and Jack fell through, landing on his back. Then all went black.

By the entrance.

Skye ran through the entrance, crossing the mammal that was saved by Jack. "Sorry, did you see a rabbit in a suit, grey fur with black stripes?"

"Yeah, he fell in through the floor after he saved me. He might b-"

"No, don't say it." She cut off the mammal before running into the building. She saw the hole in the floor and looked into it. There she saw Jack laying peacefully, surrounded by fire. "WAKE UP!" She yelled out, hoping it would help. It didn't. She looked around.

There was no easy way down, except just jumping down. However, that would provide no simple way up. She looked at the roof and saw that the supports were weak. She pulled out her non-lethal pistol and fired some rubber bullets. The force caused some of the beams to drop and create a slope to the bottom.

She slid down, reaching the bottom. Then she sprinted to the body of the rabbit that laid still. She put her paw on the rabbit's neck to see if there was a pulse; it was feint. She panicked and scooped Jack up. "Please live." She muttered gently, holding back tears. She stroked his head and ears while running up the slope that was made before.

She reached the front door and heard "Is everyone okay?".

She left the front door and yelled out "NO." Wolford turned around with an EMT, who all ran over to Skye. "He's unconscious." She tried to keep her emotions in check. 'I need to know who caused this.' She turned around as Jack was taken from her paws and placed on a stretcher. She looked at the burning building. 'All evidence will be burned. Who could find who did this?' Her face then straightened as she realised what she was considering. The fire reflected in the eyes of Skye.

Her train of thought was then interrupted as one of the EMTs came and told her simply. "He will survive but he will be unconscious for a short while."

"Please anything to make him survive."

"Since he has no emergency contact, I need to know if you are willing to be that for him?"

"Y-yes, I-I'm his partner." The EMT nodded, taken Skye's phone number and headed back to the ambulance. She turned around and saw a mammal sitting on a chair far away. 'I see you now.'

A/N:So, we finally saw from their perspective. Skye and Jack.

I thought that I should start exploring more than just the duo that everyone expects so here we are.

This chapter was practically rewritten so well, I'm happier with how this ended up.

Like I said before I don't know what to write here so I just write a small amount and say bye.

Well, See ya guys til next time.
