It was TundraTown. A particularly cold day in TundraTown, though that was due to the weather machine and not any specific weather phenomenons. Snow covered every layer and everything in the area. This caused many kits to go outside and play, filling the air with pure joy and ecstasy.
The local park had many fake trees as any real one would die too quickly due to the lack of summer conditions. However, it did the job just right, giving the aesthetic and vibe of a real natural park. Giggles, cries and screams of joy were blasting through the air. In that park was a particular fox covering his muzzle with a scarf and head with a hat. He wore a thin but long winter jacket going to about half way down his thigh. It wasn't obvious who it was, but anyone who knew, knew who it was.
Nick sat down in a park bench, waiting for someone. "Got a call, no fucking time to do this, but urgent matters." He was very clearly disgruntled. He watched closely, waiting for what he was there for. "10 minutes, then I'm leaving." He waited more and watched everywhere a little more carelessly.
That was when someone walked up to him. "Hey, I don't see any foxes, you adopted one?"
Nick, or more accurately Spectre, responded with a curt "Yes".
"Oh, which one, could I ask? I just wanna start a convo."
"You know, I haven't decided. Give me five minutes and I'll be able to tell you." Nick then turned to the mother. "No, is it too much to ask for peace and quiet, I'm here to meet a friend and not deal with the burdens of parenting, now please, no convo."
"Hmmph, you could've just said so at the beginning." The mother walked off and sat somewhere else, clearly annoyed at Nick. Spectre did not care about how the other mammal felt. He was too frustrated with the events that transpired, especially since he was actually excited to leave the city, for the first time since he was a kit.
That was when another polar bear walked up to Nick and sat down beside him. "Took you long enough."
"I was busy with business." the bear responded, hoping it was enough for the fox.
"You called me over, not the other way around. What's the issue." His question seemed to be more of a statement than a question.
"Big is not in charge, but more strongarmed into doing someone else's bidding. We have to help group, called eh... Hunters. They are led by this fox, maybe you know him." The bear passed a small envelope to Nick. He pulled the image out of it and stared at the fox deeply. He then shrugged his shoulders, not knowing who that was. "That's not good. He is scientist, that is all we know. That and you remained hidden for long enough. It is time for you to strike while the iron is hot. Especially in place like this. He has bodyguard. Vixen, calls herself Red Ghost."
"I know someone who met her. Damn. So this guy is in charge?"
"да (yes), it's him, no doubt about it. He stays hidden a lot of time. Hard to get to him, unless you go to him directly. That would be bloodbath though." The polar bear responded, trying to dissuade the fox from being reckless. "You are our best chance at winning." He then paused for a couple of seconds. "Don't die needlessly, we will be ruined then."
"I'm methodical and mad, my ways work, don't crimp my style." Nick responded, not liking how he was restricted by his 'client' and, in this situation, informant. "Don't tell me what to do it, unless you are willing to pay for it." The two then stayed silent, pondering what they should do next. "Listen, I'm busy right now, I gotta go."
"Wait. Блять (fuck). This is not time for fun. Mr. Big is out to get you. He will try to get you killed. We don't even know about the other ones. I know that the jungle wants you dead already, so they probably agreed."
"Yeah, but Sahara and Savannah are clear."
"What about Downtown?"
"No-one wants it. The previous ruler was very charismatic. Those that are there now, work in his memory. They make good money as well, so new guys don't complain."
"They will leave you alone?"
"For now."
"That still leaves three trying to kill you."
"The island can't reach me." Nick confidently stated. "They can try as well though, and I'll wait for them." He stood up and turned to leave.
"You treat this like joke, I cannot help you anymore."
"Tell Koslov I said hi, oh and kill yourself while you're at it."
"That's sui-" The bear started to growl, hating how the conversation was going. "I will see you in hell, fox."
"Make sure to save me a good seat, would hate to not be punished enough." Nick then walked away, keeping his paws in his pocket. Once he turned a few corners, he lowered his scarf, revealing who he was to the world. Snow slowly landed on his snout, melting rapidly into his fur.
Nick started thinking about what they could be to get his informant that worried. "He's not normally propping me up and making sure I'm safe-ish. Huh, guess we all get scared." He walked through the streets, knowing he had his normal look on. He walked through an alley and flipped his coat around. He then called Judy. "I'm ready to go."
"I'll be waiting at the train station, I expect you there in an hour."
"Of course, I will be there. By the way, how cold will it be?"
"It's outside the Zootopian walls, so I'd recommend a jacket and a jumper underneath."
"Jacket, ok. See you there."
"See ya."
Nick returned his phone into his pocket as he hung up the phone. "An hour, huh? Plenty of time."
In the park.
A vixen walked into view. Her coat was long and dark, reaching her ankles. She had a belt around the entire waistline, keeping the coat together. She had a hat and sunglasses on, concealing who she was to those that it didn't relate to. The vixen sat beside the informant. "Ma'am, I-I am just relaxing here."
"I know, I also know who you spoke to. Mr. Wilde knows too much already and you tell him more?" She kisses her teeth disapprovingly. She looked around. "Quite busy here, isn't it? Feels safe here, doesn't it?" She smiled gently. "I should report you but that's just long. I like to cut to the chase. What is your opinion on that?" The polar bear shook his head. "Oh, yeah, you won't live long so I may as well tell you. That is Spectre that you spoke to but, what you may not know, is that he is actually called Nicholas Wilde."
"What if I live?"
"It ain't that kind of movie." She responded immediately, confident he won't walk away. "You ready?"
"No, please, I have two cubs, please."
"Should've thought of them before. Shame, single mothers aren't exactly the best parents, are they?" Red shrugged. "Neither are single fathers though." That was when she pulled out her gun and fired into the air. "EVERYONE HERE RUN. THIS BEAR HAS A GUN!" She threw the gun over to the bear, who panicked immediately.
She waited a couple seconds with a smile before she started to run. She made a mental note of the knife he had hidden and made sure to go slow enough to be caught just as the police arrived.
Down the road.
Nick heard the gunshot and chose to hide, thinking his informant was already dead. He just pressed on back home. He decided that now it would be wiser to stay away from main roads, as to not be stopped. He returned to his tried and trusted rooftop running. More bullets fired out in rapid succession, surprising the fox in a good way. "Way to go Bernie, show 'em who's boss." He decided to sit back and see if he would see them come by and figure out who was gonna kill the bear.
Park exit
Red ran through seeing the police cars in the distance. "Now or never." She mumbled to herself as three bullets whizzed past her. She slowed down tremendously, still 'running' away. That was when Red was tackled to the ground by the bear and the police cars swerved into position, blocking the bear from going anywhere.
"DROP THE GUN!" was loudly commanded by the biggest one there. Others were radioing for help.
Nearest Rooftop
Nick watched intently, unable to see who was being pinned down with a gun to their head, but he was curious. He pulled out his suppressed pistol and pointed it at the pinned mammal then turned his sights to the informant.
Middle of the Street.
"Do it, I dare you." Red growled quietly with a smile, before calling out for help. The gun was planted on her forehead, but he didn't know if he could pull the trigged. Red rolled her eyes and pulled the knife out and stabbed him in the stomach.
The polar bear violently jerked backwards and dropped the gun. He stared at the vixen with no visible emotion. He only held contempt as he felt the knife remain in his gut. "Fuck you, I won't take orders from either of you."
Nearest roof.
Nick watched closely and realised, they weren't going to finish the job, they just wanted to seem innocent, while no true evidence needed to be collected here. He chuckled to himself then shot the bear in the head. The bear dropped to the ground, his body completely lifeless. He saw whoever was there. A vixen got up.
Nick and the vixen looked at each other, unable to clearly distinguish who each other was. "See you soon, mystery mammal." He turned away and walked on. He disappeared from everyone's view and returned home.
After half an hour, Train station.
The platform was surprisingly clean with only a little bit of litter scattered around. It was also quite empty, it being a weekday far from any holiday. Mostly those who were in a similar situation to the infamous fox rabbit duo. That was when said fox arrived in a pawaiian shirt and khakis. He didn't really mind the cold and even then, he was prepared for that very situation with the extras in his bag.
Nick walked up to the platform with only his backpack packed then a pistol strapped to his hip and hidden. He took a deep breath as he realised that this was something new for him. He sat down on a bench, waiting for the mammal who invited him. His gaze was light and calm, being even somewhat inviting. He then quickly glanced at his watch. "20 minutes." He commented to himself, knowing he was willing to wait hours for this, but not admitting it to anyone but himself. He stood up to start pacing, trying to kill time.
Midway through his path, a kit knocked into him. Nick immediately knew what was happening and grabbed the kits paw that was found in his pocket. "Nice try, but trust me, I'm helping you here." He smiled a little mischievously. The kit's wrist started to be squeezed a little tighter, hurting the kit a little. He stared dead into the kit's eyes, squeezing harder and harder. The kit was about to cry, but was stopped by Nick. "You want to be in this world, you can make that choice, but the moment you make it, don't cry about it, it will do nothing. All that will happen is mammals like me will rip you apart." Nick then let go. As he turned around, he felt the paw go through his pocket. "What did I just say?" He asked as he felt the wallet be pulled out. "I warned you." was the last line the kit heard before being electrocuted by the fake wallet. "I literally told you I'm helping you and you do this?" He groaned as he called for an ambulance, telling them what happened.
That was when Judy showed up. "What happened to him?"
"Took my wallet, was shocked to find what was inside it." Judy raised an eyebrow. "Literally. He took a fake, one that is designed to send a lot of volts if opened. Call it an impromptu taser."
"Where'd you get it?"
"I made it. I told you I can work with cabling." Nick smiled as he said that. "I can work with many more things."
"I bet you can." Judy teased.
That was the moment the train arrived and its doors opened. "We gotta go now, Nick."
"Lead the way." Nick responded, gripping his bag a little more. He then turned around. "Hey, someone call an ambulance for him." He called out, kind of not caring for if he was helped or not. He walked onto the train behind Judy and gently smiled.
A/N:So this was made much quicker than I expected if I'm being honest. I don't have much to say, except I may be a bit too busy soon but I still should be able to write more chapters.
With all that said, I hope you all enjoyed this shorter chapter. It was meant to just be another one of those, oh no its the other side, type chapters and I think it went out a little well, but feedback is always welcome.
With that being said, I hope you all had a wonderful week, I wish you all a good one and until next time, see ya lads.
