Right as Kakashi and his teammates decided to finally risk asking Kushina Uzumaki to teach them about seals within a day or two, they were interrupted. A gift from an anonymous donor showed up on Kakashi's doorstep. In the package was a personally autographed copy of "The Utterly Gutsy Ninja."

Unsurprisingly, Obito was most upset and confused at the gift, which was marked for all of them. Even worse, the book was full of all sorts of strange notes and letters. "What's this stinking gibberish!? I've got half a mind to go up to Minato and tell him to put some sense into his teacher!"

"It's a cipher." Rin and Kakashi replied at the same time. The trio huddled over the kitchen table as routine.

"A cipher? I'm minutes away from doing it, I swear!" Obito growled out, glaring at Kakashi.

Among other things. Kakashi took another long swig from the bottle he was holding. It was strong stuff that was usually saved for special occasions, and here Jiraiya was such a pain in their butts that Kakashi took to drinking it like water just to calm down.

"A cipher is a message that's been coded using a key. We have to decode the message so we can figure out what Lord Jiraiya is trying to tell us." Rin turned her attention to speaking to Obito. Meanwhile, Kakashi took to starting to decode the message or messages hidden within the book.

Obito gave Rin props for continuing to explain a cipher to him even though he was barely paying attention. He knew what a cipher was, thanks to his work with the police force, but he wasn't about to tell her that. It'd be rude.

He however, wanted to do something about that bottle in Kakashi's hand. Rin kept speaking, despite knowing his attention was behind her. She asked him using hand signs, 'Did he put it down?'

Obito looked more closely. He hadn't even noticed when Kakshi had set the bottle on the table and took to the pen and paper Rin left there. She continued speaking. 'Yea.' He signed back.

His mind raced, even as Coronamon climbed up into his lap. He really was debating entering the Hokage's office and giving Minato a piece of his mind. Nevermind the fact that the entire building was not made for individuals in wheelchairs to use or enter. He'd work that out on his way there. Rin was still in service, despite her position in Konoha hospital. She needed to remain professional, even though the entire team was still giving Minato the silent treatment. Kakashi was in direct service with Minato, and so had to be respectful all the time.

Obito's job was literally to keep shinobi in check. He did not care. Just give him the word and he'd talk the man's ear off. Konoha's habit of placing ninja wherever they pleased without the thought of the subordinates traumatized Kakashi, and nearly killed both him and Rin, Nonou and Kabuto. Kabuto wasn't even a ninja yet! Now they were openly trying to kill Kakashi.

'Fuck Minato-sensei.' Obito scowled, watching Rin step in front of him. His vision cleared and the world took on an interesting red hue as his sharingan activated. 'Can't even see that Bakakashi is too timid to say he doesn't like violence. Fuck Konoha, for being such a shitty place that they think Minato-sensei was the best candidate for the job. Fuck the world, because the positive in this whole mess is that at least Konoha isn't like Kiri or Kumo.' He clenched his hands around Coronamon. The digimon's heat flared around his stomach.

His vision was partially blurred by Rin hugging him, and what little he could see behind her told him Kakashi was looking at him. Sparkles of a warm barrier summoned by his digivice circled around him like tiny glittering twinkling stars.

"We can figure it out, stupid." Kakashi murmured. His words slurred a little as he spoke. "Put your killer intent back where it belongs before the Anbu start knocking. Get over here."

Obito forced himself to calm down. He wheeled himself up closer to the table and the book. Kakashi and Rin looked over his shoulders to give him the best access. They poured over the book, and had the cipher decoded within a few days. Kakashi concluded that this was one Jiriaya's easier codes. His harder codes purposely fudged up the letters he wrote.

Kakashi went back to missions as The Fourth Hokage ordered him. Rin worked at the hospital and trained with Nonou and Kiisu. Obito spent a great deal of time taking care of Grandma Masumi alongside Mikoto when he wasn't working at the police station. When she had free time, she and Obito went to grab the books Jiraiya's messages had led them to and study them. Apparently Jiraiya said no for other reasons than what he gave them: he was too busy with shinobi work to train anymore students at the moment. If they wanted to learn sealing, they needed to learn mostly on their own. He warned them to not try anything they didn't understand without some level of supervision, as even on a basic level a seal could kill by accident.

Unfortunately that meant that most of their work and plans were greatly stalled. Both Obito and Rin needed to wait for Kakashi to return from his missions or risk asking Kushina for help. Seals looked like gibberish to most of the group, but for Kakashi and especially Matadormon it was like reading a children's book. Matadormon felt old, as though he had a lot of knowledge within him already, which explained why he took to it like a fish to a river. Why Kakashi could understand them despite being half drunk most of the time confused them. They chalked up to his own intelligence. Intelligence that the alcohol he was consuming was destroying.

Obito firmly believed the sacrifices people made for Konoha's 'Will of Fire' made no sense. More concerning that was when he spoke to Naginata during his therapy sessions, the medic agreed with him.
