A/N: I was going to skip the pool party, but I need a way for Daniel to find out about Cobra Kai being reopened that doesn't sound contrived. I absolutely hated the whole "Oh, Sam was in Yasmine's car when Yasmine hit Johnny's Pontiac Firebird with her Jeep" thing because it was far too much of a coincidence. So, I didn't include it. Oh, and I think that Miguel and Sam's breakup in Season 1 was cringe, so I'm going to be changing that too.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.

Pool Party Fracas

The weeks went by fairly quickly.

And summer was almost over.

Jason and Miguel helped to bring the Cobra Kai dojo up to code so it could actually open. Unfortunately, they were Cobra Kai's only students for the time being.

When Jason wasn't helping to bring the Cobra Kai dojo up to code, training or doing what teenagers normally do when it's summer, he was hanging out with Miguel or Aisha or Demetri, Eli and Claire. He didn't really hang out with Sam all that much because she was still friends with Yasmine and Moon as well as Kyler and his group.

But he was invited to a pool party at Sam's house. Even though he wasn't friends with the vast majority of the people who were going to it.

Jason has a shower and puts on swim trunks and a Metallica t-shirt.

He puts jeans, clean underwear and a clean t-shirt in a sports bag in case he needs them.

Jason grabs his wallet, phone and keys.

He puts his wallet and phone in the bottom of his sports bag before he leaves his house.

Jason closes the door behind him and walks to the Dodge Viper before unlocking it.

He puts his sports bag in the back seat and gets into the driver's seat.

Jason turns on the radio after starting the car.

He kind of knows where the LaRusso house is.

If he doesn't, he could always look out for the house that has cars parked in front of it.

.

Jason parks the Dodge Viper on the driveway outside the LaRusso house.

He gets out and puts his sports bag in the trunk of the car before walking on through the back.

Jason passes by different cars, including Kyler's Jeep.

He sees different people around the pool.

Some of them are looking at him.

"Jason! It's good to see you!" Sam exclaims.

Jason smiles. "Thanks."

He notices Kyler glowering at him.

"So, do you want a tour?" Sam asks.

Jason nods. "Sure. Why not."

He follows Sam as they walk around the house.

"How has your summer gone? It feels like it's just flown by. At least, that's what I think." Sam says.

Jason agrees. "My summer has been pretty good. And, yeah, it does feel like it's gone by really quickly."

They keep walking until they get to the pool house.

"What exactly have you been doing all summer?" Sam wonders.

Jason shrugs. "Not too much. I started doing karate a few weeks ago."

"My dad used to teach me karate when I was little. As a matter of fact, this room was a home dojo before it became the pool house." Sam explains.

Jason looks around the room. "Now that you mention it, I can definitely see this room as a karate dojo."

"Yeah. I don't think I really told anyone else that I used to do karate." Sam remarks.

Jason looks over at her. "Why not?"

"Because it might be a bit odd." Sam answers.

Jason shakes his head. "It's not odd at all."

"Thanks. I wonder how good your karate is." Sam says.

Jason smiles. "Is that a challenge?"

"It might be." Sam retorts.

Jason watches as Sam gets into a fighting stance.

He gets into a fighting stance as well. "I've never been in a fight with a girl before. So, this is kind of a first."

Jason goes to throw a punch but Sam blocks it.

Sam does a front kick but Jason manages to block it before Sam grabs Jason's other arm and flips him onto his back.

Jason gets back up.

"Sorry about that." Sam has a smile on her face.

Jason shrugs. "Don't worry about it."

"Cool. So, what happened with you and Kyler?" Sam asks.

Jason sighs. "Well…."

He's about to explain what happened when Brucks bursts in.

"What the hell are you doing here? And why's she with you? Were you two about to hook up?" Brucks looks at Jason with hostility.

Jason puts his hands up. "She invited me, dumbass. And, no, we didn't hook up."

"So, why else would you be alone in a room with her?" Brucks taunts.

Sam denies it. "We were just talking."

"Yeah right." Brucks retorts.

Jason gets in Brucks' face. "She said we were just talking. So, back off."

"Or what? You don't look so tough. Especially not without that bum from the mini mart helping you." Brucks taunts.

Jason smirks. "You want to test that theory? Really?"

"Yeah." Brucks says.

Jason rolls his eyes. "Fine. Just don't start crying after I beat your ass."

"As if you c…" Brucks started.

Only to be cut off by Jason's right fist colliding with his face.

Jason hits Brucks with a left hook to the stomach. "You were saying?"

"Fuck you." Brucks almost gasps.

Jason watches as Brucks stands back up again. "Could you say that again? I didn't quite catch it the first time."

"Fuck you!" Brucks yells.

Brucks runs at Jason, but Jason sweeps his legs.

He stamps his foot near Brucks' head. "You done?"

"It's not going to be "done," Lurch. Especially not now." Brucks shoots a withering look at Jason and Sam as he walks out of the pool house.

Jason gives Brucks a mocking wave. "Bye, Felicia!"

"What kind of karate was that? It didn't look like any karate I've seen." Sam asks.

Jason just shrugs. "It's Cobra Kai. Mixed with a little Tang Soo Do. Along with some other stuff."

"Did you just say Cobra Kai?" Sam looks concerned.

Jason nods. "Yeah. Why?"

"It's nothing. Sorry." Sam replies.

Jason gives her a look. "You sure?"

"Yeah. Guess we'd better head back out there." Sam says.

Jason watches as Sam leaves the pool house.

He follows her out of the pool house and notices that the party had stopped.

Everybody was crowding around looking at Kyler, who was giving Jason a look of pure hatred.

Brucks is standing beside Rory and Alan along with some other people.

Moon and Yasmine had gotten up from their places beside the pool and joined the crowd of onlookers.

"You made a move on my girl and you beat up one of my best friends? I'm going to make you wish that bum from the mini mart was here to save your ass again." Kyler gets in Jason's face.

Jason squares up to him. "This isn't the 1850s, dude. You can't, like, "own" another person. Besides, you and I both know that I would have kicked your ass if Sensei wasn't there."

"Sensei? Oh look! Lurch knows karate now, everybody! And he actually thinks it'll help him! What are you going to do, huh? Karate faggot!" Kyler shoves Jason, who doesn't even flinch.

Jason gets back in Kyler's face. "Something like this!"

He punches Kyler in the nose with as much force as he can manage.

There's a noise that sounds like cracking and blood runs down Kyler's nose.

"I think you broke my nose! You're a fucking dead man, Lurch!" Kyler punches Jason.

Jason takes the punch without a complaint and punches Kyler in the ear, causing him to fall off balance and stagger backwards.

He grabs Kyler by the neck and pulls him towards him before headbutting him in the nose.

Jason keeps landing punches on Kyler after that.

Kyler manages to push him away before putting a bit of distance between them.

The crowd spreads out and almost everybody in the crowd is making noise or cheering.

A lot of people in the crowd have taken their phones out and started recording the fight as well.

Jason spreads his arms out wide and taunts Kyler. "What are you going to do now? I think I've broken your nose. And I've punched you in the head a few times. Just give up already. It's starting to get a little sad. Even by your pitiful standards."

"It's not over until it's over, Lurch!" Kyler retorts.

He runs at Jason and lowers his body so that he tackles Jason at waist height.

This drives them into the pool.

They both hit the water at roughly the same time.

Jason is the first person to get back to his feet.

Kyler is slower to get back to his feet.

Jason lets out a deep breath. "Shit. That actually kind of hurt."

"Bastard." Kyler snarls

Kyler punches Jason, only for Jason to block it.

Jason kicks water into Kyler's face and hits him with a punch to the jaw.

Kyler falls backwards but manages to catch himself.

Jason gets into a fighting stance. "Are you still going to call me "karate faggot" now?"

They circle around each other.

Kyler throws a punch at Jason's face that connects.

Jason rears back and punches Kyler in the face.

He grabs Kyler and knees him in the stomach before elbowing him in the head.

Kyler manages to shove Jason away before he can cause any further damage.

He tries to get Jason in a headlock but Jason grabs Kyler's arm and kicks him in the face.

Kyler falls into the water and flails around before trying to get out of the pool.

Jason grabs Kyler and attempts to drag him back into the pool.

Kyler kicks Jason in the chest and climbs out.

"Is that all you got, Lurch?" Kyler taunts.

Jason gets his balance back and gets out of the pool.

The crowd moves as Jason and Kyler lock eyes.

They look like they're still ready to fight.

"What the hell is going on?!" They hear a man yell in shock and anger.

Sam looks surprised to see him. "Dad! I didn't think you and Mom would be back so early!"

"Are they wearing my swimsuits? And are those two teenagers fighting?" The man asks.

Sam nods. "Yeah."

The man walks over to where Jason and Kyler are standing.

"Alright, that's it. The show's over. It's time for everybody to get out of here. And, maybe you should try wearing your own swimsuits next time." The man does a good job at getting people to leave.

Rory, Alan and a seemingly recovered Brucks drag Kyler away.

Jason waits until they've left before potentially making his own exit. "I think I'm just going to go."

"You're not going anywhere." The man blocks him from leaving.

Jason gives him a look. "What are you going to do? Sue me?"

"I'm not going to sue you. Relax. I just want to know where you learned to fight like that." The man answers.

Jason is a little confused. "Okay? But you didn't actually see the whole fight?"

"No. But you do own the Dodge Viper, don't you? It's a nice car, but it's not something I'd expect a parent to buy for their son or daughter. Especially not as a first car." The man replies.

Jason checks to make sure that he still has the keys to the Dodge Viper and he does.

He looks back at the man. "I think I'd better go. Besides, I've got a change of clothes in my car and I'm not exactly planning to get changed where people can see me."

"I'll walk with you." The man says.

Jason shrugs. "Fine."

"So, where did you learn how to fight like that?" The man asks as they're walking to the Dodge Viper.

Jason isn't sure what to say. "I started taking karate classes a few weeks ago."

"I guess that would explain it. I don't think I got your name, though." The man remarks.

It almost seems like he knows more than what he's letting on.

Jason almost hesitates. "I'm Jason. Jason Kreese."

There is an awkward silence as they walk over to where Jason parked the Dodge Viper.

Jason unlocks the car and grabs the sports bag.

He closes the door and locks it before shifting the sports bag so he's carrying it on his shoulder.

"I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but your grandfather was a monster who turned teenagers into soldiers so he could wage his own private war on a society that turned its back on him. I'm glad that he's dead." The man remarks.

Jason isn't sure if he should tell the man that Kreese is actually still alive.

So, he decides against it.

But there is something else that he wants to say. "You're that karate guy from those commercials, right? Daniel LaRusso?"

"I am." Daniel replies.

Jason carefully thinks about the next thing to say. "You know when I said I started taking karate classes a few weeks ago? I started training in Cobra Kai a few weeks ago, to be more specific. The dojo's in Reseda."

"Did you just say Cobra Kai?" Daniel asks.

Jason nods. "I did."

"I know it's none of my business and that you won't listen to me anyway, but Cobra Kai is dangerous. It has a way of twisting people." Daniel says.

Jason considers this. "I'll try and keep that in mind."

"Do you need help finding the pool house?" Daniel asks.

Jason shakes his head. "No thanks."

He walks into the pool house and closes the door.

Jason takes clothes out of the sports bag along with his wallet and phone.

He takes his keys out of the pocket of his swimsuit before getting changed.

When he's finished getting changed, he wraps his swimsuit in a towel and puts it back in the sports bag before carrying his sports bag again.

He walks towards the door to the pool house and opens it.

As much as he wanted to stay and look around, he didn't want to overstay his welcome.

He walks out of the pool house.

Jason is about to walk to his car when Sam stops him.

"I'm sorry about Kyler and Brucks. Brucks is kind of an idiot and Kyler has a bit of a temper. I just didn't think that things would have escalated the way they did." Sam apologises.

Jason shrugs. "Thanks, I guess? I've been in more than my fair share of fights so I can handle it when people try and start shit with me. I'd suggest getting better friends but I don't think you'd appreciate that suggestion."

"And what are your friends like?" Sam asks.

Jason smiles. "They're pretty cool. There's this one guy who's started doing karate at the same time as me. He's more of a beginner than I am but he's a good guy. And he's nicer than Kyler is, at least."

"Will I meet this friend of yours?" Sam wonders.

Jason nods. "I guess. We're probably going to be going to the same high school, right?"

"You mean West Valley High? If so, then yes." Sam replies.

Jason smiles. "Great. Well, I guess I'd better go. I don't want to overstay my welcome."

"See you around. Oh, what did my dad say to you? He can be a bit overprotective at times but he means well." Sam says.

Jason shrugs. "He didn't say too much to me. See you later."

He walks to the Dodge Viper and unlocks it.

Jason puts the sports bag in the trunk of the car and gets into the driver's seat.

He turns on the radio after starting the car.

Jason drives off, leaving the LaRusso house behind him.

He wonders if his fight with Kyler is going to be seen beyond the people who saw and recorded.

But he decides that it doesn't really matter.

.

The Cobra Kai dojo had been fully brought up to code in order to officially open.

Unfortunately, Jason and Miguel were still Cobra Kai's only students.

Jason parked his Dodge Viper outside the dojo and got out of the car.

He noticed Miguel getting off his bike and walking to the dojo.

"Hey, Jason. Did you get into a fight at a pool party earlier?" Miguel asks.

Jason nods. "Yeah, why?"

"There's a video of your fight online! And it's going viral!" Miguel exclaims.

Jason is a little taken aback by this statement. "Really? You sure?"

"Yeah! It's probably better if I just showed you." Miguel replies.

Miguel takes out his phone and shows him the video.

Jason looks at the video and the different comments. "Holy shit."

"Yeah. You would have won if that guy hadn't shown up." Miguel says.

Jason smiles. "Thanks for the vote of confidence. But I've been in plenty of fights. So, I know how to finish them."

"I've never really been in a fight. Yeah, that time I met you and Sensei kind of counts but I've never been in a fight other than that." Miguel stops the video and puts his phone back in his pocket.

Jason nods. "That makes sense. But the whole point of joining Cobra Kai is to get strong enough to deal with assholes like that. Right?"

"Right." Miguel answers.

Their conversation is interrupted by a familiar red Pontiac Firebird parking a space or two away from the Dodge Viper.

Miguel and Jason watch as the car comes to a stop before Sensei gets out of it.

He crushes a beer can and throws it in the trash.

Sensei looks at them. "You're early. Good."

He walks past them and unlocks the door to the dojo before opening it and closing it behind him.

Jason grabs the door and opens it before walking into the dojo.

Miguel follows closely behind him.

They look around the dojo and can see punching bags along with some other stuff.

There are also weapons on one of the walls, but they probably wouldn't be using those.

"Summer is almost over and we were just wondering what the schedule for training would be?" Miguel asks.

Sensei thinks about it. "Training will be Monday to Friday and weekends on occasion when you guys have to go back to school. You got a problem with that, Diaz?"

"No, Sensei." Miguel shakes his head.

Sensei looks at Jason. "Do you have a problem with that, Kreese?"

"No, Sensei." Jason also shakes his head.

Sensei smiles. "Good. Today, I'll be going through one of the fundamentals of karate and any other kind of fighting. Punching. You'll learn to kick soon enough."

Jason and Miguel watches as Sensei walks over to a punching bag.

"You punch someone in the nose, there's a chance that you break it. If you punch someone in the mouth, you could knock their teeth out. And if you punch someone in the throat, that could cut off their breathing. But you should only use that in extreme situations." Sensei demonstrates the different punches on the punching bag.

He stops. "Now it's your turn. Show me what you got."

"Yes, Sensei!" Jason and Miguel shout in unison.

They each walk over to a punching bag and start throwing punches.

Sensei silently observes, occasionally telling them to correct their stance or better aim a punch.

Jason is more used to throwing punches than Miguel is.

But Miguel learns how to throw a punch pretty quickly.

Sensei stands in the centre of the room. "Imagine the person you hate most in the world is standing behind that punching bag!"

He is about to say something else when he is rudely interrupted by the door opening and practically being slammed.

Jason and Miguel stop punching the punching bags and turn to look at Daniel LaRusso.

"Johnny Lawrence. I can't believe it." Daniel says.

Sensei crosses his arms. "What the hell are you doing here, LaRusso?"

"One of your students got into a fight with one of my daughter's friends." Daniel answers.

Sensei chuckles at that statement. "I'm not surprised. Especially if that person is the person that I'm thinking of. Because he probably deserved it."

"Why would you reopen Cobra Kai? After everything that John Kreese did? He tried to kill you." Daniel is incredulous.

Sensei shakes his head. "You just don't get it."

"Explain it to me then." Daniel retorts.

Sensei uncrosses his arms and moves into an almost thoughtful posture.

He thinks about what he's going to say. "There were some good memories, too."

"Well, I hope those good memories are worth it. Because nothing good will come from your decision to bring back Cobra Kai." Daniel remarks.

Sensei smiles slightly. "We'll just have to wait and see."

"We will. Don't worry about that." Daniel is almost about to leave.

Miguel looks at Daniel before looking at Sensei. "Who's that guy, Sensei? And why does he know you?"

"Sensei? He's not worth listening to. Besides, this isn't over. Not by a long shot." Daniel finally leaves.

Sensei can't resist getting the last word in. "I'm right here, man."

"So, are we going to keep on punching?" Jason asks.

Sensei shakes his head. "No. I think you've gotten the hang of it, more or less."

"Are we done training now, Sensei?" Miguel asks.

Sensei nods. "Yeah. You did pretty good. But this is just the start."

Jason and Miguel watch as Sensei walks in the direction of his office.

"I guess that's it for today, then." Miguel says.

Jason nods. "It seems like it. Unless he comes back out. Which I doubt."

"Well, he's probably doing Sensei stuff in there. Or something." Miguel remarks.

Jason thinks about it. "Maybe. I think that guy showing up earlier kind of threw him off his game a little bit."

"Yeah. Wait. Was he the guy at the end of the video?" Miguel asks.

Jason nods. "Yep. His name is Daniel LaRusso, in case you're wondering."

"Oh. I think I'd better go home. I haven't really told my mom or my Yaya where I've been going the last few weeks. My mom doesn't really approve of fighting or violence, so I've been kind of keeping the fact that I'm doing karate a secret." Miguel states.

Jason kind of understands. "That does kind of make sense. See you tomorrow."

Miguel walks over to the door and opens it.

Jason follows closely behind him.

He watches as Miguel gets on his bike and pedals away.

Jason decides to go and buy a soda in the bodega before leaving.

After all, it wasn't like he really had anywhere else to be.

And today had been a long day.

What with the fight and everything.
