A/N: This chapter is one of a few chapters before the cafeteria fight, which is happening earlier than it does in the show. It's also going to have Miguel and Sam's first date, seeing as they got together earlier than they did originally.

Disclaimer: I don't own the Karate Kid movies, Cobra Kai or anything else that I might reference.

Saturday's Alright

Miguel woke up earlier than Mom or Yaya this morning.

He gathered clean clothes and a towel before walking into the bathroom.

Miguel takes a fifteen-minute shower and dries himself before getting dressed.

He leaves the bathroom and puts the towel somewhere to dry before walking back into his room and putting his wallet and phone in his pockets.

Today was his first date with Sam, or any girl for that matter, and he wanted to make an effort.

Miguel had been looking forward to today for the last few days to the point where he was practically rehearsing what he'd say to Sam when given the chance.

And the others had noticed too.

Because they told him not to worry about it.

Miguel grabs a clean pair of socks and puts them on before opening the door of his room and walking out into the hallway.

He walks into the kitchen and has a look around.

Mom and Yaya are normally the ones in the kitchen, but he's able to find things relatively easily.

Miguel gets eggs and bacon from the fridge before looking for frying pans.

He finds frying pans and turns on the cooker.

It doesn't take him too long to make breakfast.

He sits down at the table and eats in relative silence.

When he's finished eating, he cleans his plate and cutlery before putting them back where he got them from.

He also cleans the frying pans and the spatula he used to cook his breakfast with before putting them away.

Miguel walks the short distance from the kitchen to the living room of the small apartment.

He sits down on the sofa.

Miguel is about to turn on the TV when his phone rings.

He checks the caller ID and sees that Sam is calling him.

So, he answers the call.

"Hey, Miguel! I'm just calling you about our date." Sam says.

Miguel sits up. "Sure. What about it?"

"Well, we're going to be having lunch together and then I could show you around the Valley. And, maybe you could meet my family if you want. They're looking forward to meeting you." Sam answers.

Miguel smiles. "That's great. I wasn't sure if you were going to call me or if I was going to call you. I wouldn't mind meeting your family, actually. I mean, your dad was chaperoning the Halloween dance but I don't think I actually properly met him."

"Don't worry about it. I don't think he'd remember you." Sam is quick to reassure him.

Miguel sounds relieved. "Great. He kind of looked surprised at me, Jason, Claire and Aisha wearing skeleton costumes."

"That's kind of a long story. Anyway, I'll pick you up around 12. You're in Reseda, right?" Sam changed the subject.

Miguel nods. "Yeah. The last time I checked. I live pretty close to the Cobra Kai dojo, by the way. It's in a strip mall pretty close by the apartment, in case you were wondering."

"I think I know where you're talking about." Sam remarks.

Miguel smiles. "Awesome. So, I'll see you at around 12?"

"Of course. Will you hang up first? Or will I?" Sam wonders.

Miguel thinks about it. "I guess I will. I'll see you later."

"Okay." Sam responds.

Miguel hangs up slightly before Sam does.

Mom and Yaya are both awake now.

He checks the time on his phone and notices that there's still time before Sam arrives to pick him up.

"Miggy! Are you up already?" He hears Mom calling out.

Miguel sits up. "I'm awake! I'm just on the sofa. And I had breakfast already. In case you were wondering."

"Oh. Good morning. Are you ready for your date?" Mom asks.

Miguel notices Mom and Yaya in the kitchen.

He nods. "I think so. Sam's picking me up at 12. And I'm not going to be back for a while."

"That's good. If you need anything you can always let me or your Yaya know." Mom replies.

Miguel nods. "I know. But I think I'll be okay."

"I'll be there if you need me." Mom says.

Miguel smiles. "Thanks."

"Don't forget to have fun. And it's okay to be nervous. It's your first real date after all." Mom adds.

Miguel thinks about it. "Thanks for the advice."

"You're welcome." Mom answers before she walks back into the kitchen.

Miguel hears Mom and Yaya talking about his date as they make breakfast for themselves.

He checks his phone again and sees that there's still time before Sam picks him up.

Miguel walks to the bathroom and inspects himself in the mirror.

Everything was fine.

He opens the bathroom door and walks back to the living room, or the equivalent room in the apartment.

Miguel sits back down on the sofa.

Mom and Yaya had made breakfast and were sitting at the dining table.

Miguel looks over at them. "Do you want me to sit at the table, or…?"

"You don't have to sit at the table with us, Miggy. Besides, your date's going to be here soon." Mom replies.

Miguel nods. "I know. Do you two want to meet her?"

"Maybe. If you've got time." Mom answers.

Miguel looks away. "Okay."

Mom and Yaya talk as they eat in both English and Spanish.

They clean up before Yaya walks over to the sofa and sits down.

Miguel checks the time on his phone for the third time.

He puts his phone away.

"We don't mind if you wait outside for your date to pick you up." Mom suggests.

Miguel stands up. "Thanks."

He walks over to the door and puts his shoes on before telling Mom and Yaya where he's going before he opens the door of the apartment.

Miguel closes the door behind him and stands somewhere Sam will be able to see him.

He notices that Sensei's Pontiac Firebird isn't parked where it normally is.

Which means that Sensei more than likely wasn't in his apartment.

But he doesn't dwell on it.

Miguel leans against the wall of his apartment and waits.

At around 12 PM, a white BMW pulls up a few steps away from his apartment and stops.

He watches as Sam gets out of the car.

"Hey, Miguel. I was trying to find out where exactly your apartment was. But I think I found it." Sam walks over to him.

Miguel smiles. "Hopefully you didn't get too lost."

"I didn't. But thanks. So, are you ready to go?" Sam asks.

Miguel nods. "Of course."

"Great." Sam walks over to her car and unlocks it.

Miguel follows her. "So, this is really your car?"

"Yeah. Well, technically it's my dad's, but it's my car." Sam answers.

Miguel looks embarrassed. "Oh. Forget I said anything, then."

Sam gets in the driver's seat of her car and puts her key in the ignition before turning it while Miguel sits in the passenger's seat.

"What kind of music do you like?" Sam asks.

Miguel thinks about the question. "I like most kinds of music. Sensei likes a lot of music from the '70s, '80s and early '90s. And Jason likes metal. I mean, he really likes metal. A lot. Claire, Aisha and Leonard like different kinds of music as well, so…"

"Okay. Do you like Queen?" Sam asks.

Miguel nods. "Of course. You really can't go wrong with Queen."

"You're in luck, because one of my driving playlists just happens to have quite a bit of Queen on it." Sam says.

Miguel smiles. "Great."

Sam connects her phone to Bluetooth in the car before driving off.

They sing along to the different songs on Sam's driving playlist as they drive to where they're going to have lunch.

.

Sam parks the BMW across from a sushi restaurant that looks pretty high end.

Miguel watches as she takes the key out of the ignition and opens the door before stepping out of the car and closing it.

He undoes his seatbelt and gets out of the car.

"Well, here we are. Almost. We just need to cross at the lights." Sam looks over at the restaurant and a set of traffic lights.

Miguel follows her gaze. "Okay."

"Great. Now let's go!" Sam exclaims.

Miguel watches as Sam extends out her hand.

He holds her hand as they walk over to the traffic lights.

Sam presses the button with her free hand.

The light turns green and they walk across.

It's a short walk to the restaurant but Miguel doesn't mind.

Sam opens the door leading into the restaurant and walks inside along with Miguel.

Miguel looks around the restaurant in awe.

"Ms LaRusso? Your table is ready." A waiter practically appears out of nowhere.

They follow the waiter to their table and sit down.

Miguel looks around the restaurant again. "This is a really nice place. You come here often?"

"My parents take me and my brother here sometimes. But it's not a big thing. So, don't worry about it." Sam replies.

Miguel looks relieved. "Thanks."

"I hope this doesn't sound rude, but are you new to the Valley?" Sam asks.

Miguel nods. "Yeah. My family moved over from Riverside. Which makes us pretty new."

"It's a good thing that I'm showing you around the Valley, then." Sam has a smile on her face.

Miguel grins. "Yeah. Everything's still a bit new to me."

"I can imagine. So, how long have you been doing karate for?" Sam deftly changes the subject.

Miguel quickly answers the question. "I started doing karate near the end of the summer. So, I'd say around three months."

"I used to do karate when I was little. My dad trained me, but I stopped after Mr Miyagi died." Sam sounds happy that they found something in common.

Miguel looks a little confused. "Who's Mr Miyagi?"

"He was an old friend of the family. And, honestly, he was practically a surrogate grandfather to me. He trained my dad and Aunt Julie, who's not actually my aunt but I call her that for the sake of convenience. I never really did karate after his death and I don't think my dad did either." Sam replies.

Miguel understands. "Oh."

"What's your Sensei like?" Sam wonders.

Miguel lets out a deep breath. "He's a tough mentor but he makes us tough. I've learned a lot from him. And I think everybody else in Cobra Kai has, too."

"That's good. I'm happy that you've got such a good Sensei. Even if I've never met him before." Sam remarks.

Miguel smiles. "He's a very unique individual. And he's kind of abrasive. But he means well."

"I'm sure he does." Sam says.

Miguel nods. "He does. You don't need to worry about me."

"Good. I'm sure you're able to take care of yourself, right?" Sam asks.

Miguel leans forward a little. "Yeah. But I'm not the kind of person to actively go out looking for trouble."

Sam is about to say something when the waiter from earlier walks over to their table.

"Do you two need menus? I forgot to get you two menus earlier and I apologise. I hope I'm not interrupting you." The waiter puts menus in front of Miguel and Sam.

They look at each other before Miguel speaks up. "That's fine."

"Don't worry about it." Sam adds.

The waiter gives them a wordless nod before he walks away.

Miguel turns his attention back to Sam. "So, what would you recommend? Seeing as I haven't really had sushi all that much."

"I'd recommend the Dragon Roll. But it's up to you, really. We could share if you want." Sam suggests.

Miguel's face lights up. "We can do that? Share, I mean?"

"Yeah." Sam replies.

Miguel smiles. "Great. Let's do that."

They watch as a different waiter walks over to their table.

"Are you two ready to order?" The waiter asks.

Miguel and Sam both nod. "Yes."

They order their food and something to drink.

After a few minutes, a waiter brings them Cokes in glasses with ice.

"Did you have any friends back in Riverside?" Sam asks.

Miguel shakes his head. "Not really. I've made more friends here than I did there. And, I'm pretty sure we've got the same friend group now. Including Leonard."

"We do. Which makes things a lot less complicated." Sam observes.

Miguel agrees. "Yeah. Things would be different if we didn't have the same group of friends."

"Exactly. We'd be worrying about whether or not my friends got along with your friends." Sam laughed slightly.

Miguel nods. "Yeah. But we don't have to worry about that."

"So, did you have a girlfriend before you moved to the Valley?" Sam asks.

Miguel shakes his head. "I wasn't that lucky. You?"

"I had one or two boyfriends before Kyler. And that went about as well as it could have." Sam replies.

Miguel nods. "Yeah. But I don't think it matters. What does matter is that we're here now sitting across from each other in a nice restaurant."

"Of course. You're right. The present is the most important thing. Which is why they call it the present." Sam says.

Miguel agrees and proposes a toast. "To living in the present."

"To living in the present." Sam repeats.

They clink their glasses together and take a small drink.

It doesn't take too long for their food to arrive.

They eat sushi, drink their sodas and talk about anything that they want to.

Both of them can agree that their date is going very well.

They finish their sushi and sodas before Sam asks for the bill.

She knows somewhere they can go and get dessert before they explore the Valley a little more.

They leave after Sam pays the bill.

It's a short walk to Sam's car.

Sam unlocks the car and gets into the driver's seat while Miguel gets into the passenger seat.

They drive off after Sam turns on the radio.

.

Sam found somewhere to get dessert before driving Miguel around the Valley pointing out different locations and landmarks to him.

She is currently parking her BMW outside a spacious looking house in Encino.

Miguel looks in wonder at the house from the passenger's seat of the BMW.

Sam parks the car and gets out.

"Are you coming in or what? My parents aren't that scary." Sam teases.

Miguel gets out of the BMW. "I might as well. Everything's gone pretty good so far."

"Alright." Sam says.

She walks to the front door of the house.

Miguel follows her.

He passes by an Audi and looks at it almost in awe.

Miguel catches up to Sam.

He watches as Sam rings the doorbell.

A tall brunette woman opens the door.

"Hey, Sam. Is this your date? Well, don't just stand there! Come on in." The woman looks at Sam and Miguel.

Sam follows the woman inside.

Miguel walks in the house and closes the door.

He looks at Sam and the woman. "So, you must be Sam's mom?"

"I am. But you can call me Amanda. It's so good to meet you." Amanda answers.

Miguel smiles. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm Miguel."

"We should probably introduce you to the rest of the family." Amanda suggests.

Miguel and Sam follow Amanda as she walks into a different part of the house.

He sees a familiar looking man sitting at the table wearing jeans and a dark blue t-shirt.

Miguel watches as the man stands up and walks around the table until he is standing directly in front of him.

He recognises the man almost instantly. "You were the chaperone at the Halloween dance! Which must make you Sam's dad."

"I'm Daniel, by the way. You were wearing a skeleton costume at the Halloween dance. But I didn't get your name then." Daniel says.

Miguel nods. "Oh. Well. I'm Miguel. And it's good to properly meet you. You have a lovely home, by the way."

"Thanks. So, you do karate?" Daniel asks.

Miguel nods again. "Yeah."

"What dojo are you in?" Daniel asks.

Miguel almost hesitates before he answers. "I'm in Cobra Kai."

There is a brief pause as Daniel processes this piece of information.

"I hear that they're looking for new students. Have you or your Sensei had any luck finding students?" Daniel asks.

Miguel shakes his head. "Only one new student has joined so far."

"That's too bad. But don't get discouraged. You just need a big moment, that's all." Daniel does his best to sound reassuring.

Miguel grins. "You're right. A big moment could be what gets us more students."

"As much as Sam and I would love to hear you two talking about karate, there's still one member of the family Miguel hasn't met yet." Amanda interrupts.

Miguel looks at Amanda. "And who would that be?"

"Anthony. Our youngest." Amanda answers.

Almost as if on cue, a pudgy child or very young teenager walks into the room with a PS Vita in one hand.

Miguel quickly greets him. "You're Anthony, right?"

"Yeah, whatever." Anthony almost ignores Miguel.

But Miguel doesn't really mind.

He watches as Anthony walks out of the room.

Miguel turns his attention back to Daniel and Amanda. "It's been nice meeting you."

"Do you mind if I show Miguel my room?" Sam asks.

Daniel and Amanda look at each other and nod. "No. But remember to keep the door open."

"Thanks!" Sam gives her parents a quick hug before walking towards the stairs.

Miguel follows her.

They walk up the stairs together.

Sam walks down the hallway towards her room and Miguel follows her.

Miguel watches as Sam opens the door and walks into her room.

He follows Sam into her room and leaves the door open.

Miguel looks around the room. "Nice room."

"Thanks." Sam says.

Miguel smiles. "You're welcome."

"What's your room like?" Sam asks.

Miguel frowns slightly. "It's a good room. But it's not as nice as your room. And it's not as big."

"Size isn't everything." Sam remarks.

Miguel thinks about it. "You're probably right. So, do you want to stay up here a little longer or do you want to go back downstairs?"

"We should probably go downstairs." Sam replies.

Miguel agrees. "That would be a good idea."

They walk out of Sam's room and down the hallway until they get to the stairs.

Sam extends her hand out and Miguel takes a hold of it.

They walk down the stairs holding hands.

Miguel lets go of Sam's hand when they get to the bottom of the stairs.

"I'll tell my parents that I'm going to drive you home. You're welcome to say goodbye to them, too." Sam says.

Miguel nods. "Yeah."

They walk back to where Daniel and Amanda were, only to find that they were in the living room of the house.

"So, did you two talk about anything interesting?" Amanda asks.

Miguel nods. "Yeah."

"I'm going to take Miguel home. So, I'll see you and Dad later." Sam addresses Amanda and Daniel.

Daniel gets up and shakes Miguel's hand. "I've probably said it before, but it was nice meeting you."

"Thanks. And it was nice meeting you too. Well, it was nice meeting both of you." Miguel replies.

Amanda smiles. "Don't be a stranger."

"I won't." Miguel answers.

Sam looks happy that everything went smoothly. "Mom, Dad, I'll see you later."

Miguel watches as Sam walks over to the front door of the house and opens it before following her outside.

Sam unlocks her BMW and gets into the driver's seat while Miguel gets into the passenger's seat.

They wait until Sam gets out of the driveway before turning on the radio.

.

The drive from Sam's house to Miguel's apartment doesn't take particularly long at all.

Sam parks her BMW close to Miguel's apartment and gets out of the car.

Miguel opens the door and gets out as well.

"I had a great time with you today." Sam says.

Miguel agrees. "Thanks. Today was a pretty good day. I really enjoyed our date, too."

"You're welcome. I'd definitely go on another date with you. So, that's something." Sam replies.

Miguel smiles. "Great. I'll see you on Monday, then."

"See you on Monday. There's just one more thing..." Sam starts.

Miguel looks a little confused. "What?"

"This." Sam says.

She gives Miguel a kiss.

Miguel returns the kiss and it lasts for about a minute.

He lets out a deep breath. "Wow."

"Yeah. See you." Sam walks back to her car.

Miguel watches as Sam unlocks the BMW and gets in before putting the key in the ignition and driving off.

He walks up to the door of his apartment and knocks on the door.

Mom opens the door. "So, how was your date, Miggy? Or do you not want me to ask you questions?"

"The date went great, actually. You'd really like Sam." Miguel answers.

Mom watches as Miguel walks into the apartment and closes the door behind him.

She looks happy that the date went well. "I'm glad to hear it."

Miguel watches as Yaya gets up from the sofa and walks over to him.

"I'm proud of you." Yaya gives him a big hug.

Miguel returns the gesture. "Thanks? I guess? You can let go of me now."

"You're welcome. So? How did it go?" Yaya asks.

Miguel lets out a breath. "My date with Sam went pretty well. You'd really like her."

"I'm glad to hear it. But you were careful? Right?" Yaya wonders.

Miguel's face reddens. "Sam and I just kissed. That's all."

"Don't embarrass him, Mama." Carmen interjects.

Yaya says something in Spanish.

Miguel scratches his head. "I'm going to go my room."

"Okay." Mom says.

Yaya gives Mom a slight nudge as Miguel walks to his room.

He checks his phone and sees texts from Jason, Claire, Aisha, Demetri, Eli and Leonard.

They're all asking him about his date with Sam went.

He replies to their texts while walking into his room.

Miguel sits down on his bed.

Today had gone really well.

His date with Sam was great and he got along well with her parents.

Which was an added bonus.

Miguel had managed to find common ground with Sam's dad, who didn't seem to mind that he was in Cobra Kai. Even though he was almost expecting him to.

There was a lot of history there and he wasn't going to unpack it.

Maybe he'd ask Sensei about it when he got the chance.

He was distracted by his phone ringing.

Miguel checks the Caller ID and is happy to see that Sam is calling him.

"Hey, Miguel!" Sam exclaims.

Miguel smiles. "Hey, Sam. I wasn't expecting to hear from you soon."

"I was talking to my parents and they want to invite you over for dinner next Friday. If that's okay with you, I mean?" Sam asks.

Miguel nods. "That's more than okay. It's really great. And I'm looking forward to it."

"I'm happy to hear it. It'd be a good chance for them to get to know you better." Sam says.

Miguel thinks about it. "Probably. Then again, I got to know them a little today."

"I know. But they'd like to get to know you more. If that makes sense. Plus, the last time I had a boyfriend over for dinner didn't go so well." Sam replies.

Miguel chuckles slightly. "You invited Kyler to your house?"

"Yeah. I'm not sure what I was thinking with that one." Sam answers.

Miguel laughs. "Hopefully things will go smoother when I'm there."

"They will. You've got nothing to worry about." Sam remarks.

Miguel nods. "Yeah. You're probably right. I'll see you on Monday, I guess."

"See you on Monday." Sam says.

They hang up at roughly the same time.

Miguel left his room to go and tell Mom and Yaya that he was going to have dinner with Sam and her family next Friday.

While he was sure that they wouldn't mind, it was better to let them know.
