I feel terrible for doing this to him, he is definitely not. Oh, Jor is going to sit on Loki when he finally gets back. Good, it's so fun to have Tony trying to figure out magic when his so science and logical reasoning. Yes, Steve!

They finally did. Yeah, that didn't kickstart the best process for trust.
Yes, conundrums will ensue.

Journal 2, Entry 35: "Avengers Pt.1"

Hakon knelt next to the energy collector and portal stabilizer. He pulled some wires out and connected them to the small computer, then tucked it back into the machine, well out of sight. He stood with help from Tor and ran a diagnostic from there, activating the hidden coding.

He smiled softly and nodded, locking up the panel.

Tor barked, his lips were pulled back into a doggy grin.

Hakon rubbed his head. "Soon bud, then we can actually begin looking for Loki without worrying about SHIELD or Hydra. I hope he's hanging on…gods, what's happening to him?"

Tor whined, bumping into his leg, and wrapped around their bond comfortingly.

Hakon ran a thumb down his nose before giving him a chin scratch, avoiding the Spot. "Thanks bud. I wouldn't be able to get through this without you."

Tor woofed happily.

Hakon looked up when a familiar dark coated figure entered the room and grinned lopsidedly. "Have to give me a personal escort to see an old friend?"

Fury frowned, though it wasn't directed at him. "I'm sorry, Hyse. I cannot allow you to see Rogers at this time."

Hakon straightened, eyes wide and staring at Fury. "Wha—why not! He's my friend, Fury, a friend I haven't seen since the war! I thought he was dead! What in Thor's good name makes you think you can keep me from seeing him?"

Fury remained silent with his arms crossed until Hakon calmed down and looked at him expectantly. "He needs time to readjust-"

"And you think being kept away from his only living friend will make that easier?!" Hakon shouted.

Several agents and scientists jumped, looking over at the elderly man in shock. They were stunned that he would talk to Fury like that. Unbeknownst to all, Clint was up in the rafters, gripping a beam for dear life as he stifled laughter, dearly wishing he had a camera to capture this rare moment. Well, maybe not so rare, but discount any Stark experience it was nearly unheard of.

Fury's eyebrows raised, utterly unimpressed. "Possibly, or you could shock him more by your…age. Besides, your work here takes precedence."

Hakon's eyes narrowed into slits as his nose flared. "They're not so incompetent that they can't handle me being gone for a few days."

Fury's normal frown deepened a little more. "Hyse, need I remind you of the importance of this little project? You're the only one with any experience with the Tesseract."

Hakon arched an eyebrow and leaned back on his good foot. "Didn't you demand I take a break just a few months back because of that connection?"

"That was then. You clearly needed a break from it and you haven't passed out since so it worked. But now we need you here far more than Rogers needs a 'familiar' face." Fury argued, cool as ever.

Hakon's lip curled. "'Need me here' my good foot. You're just impatient to get more weapons made."

He whirled around and stalked away, Tor shooting Fury a dirty look.

Fury sighed as they disappeared down the hallway and walked over to Selvig and another who was working on the activator.

Tor's demeanor remained black until he realized they were headed up and out of the compound, lightening up even more when he felt Hakon's mirth over the bond even if his face remained scathing.

Hakon nodded to the guard at the door and Tor took off for the park, following his other half's silent prompts. He trotted around the grass and Hakon casually followed behind him before they started winding around to the parking lot.

Hakon watched as a guard greeted another, then they continued in separate directions. He waved Torbjörg into action and Tor took off with a grin.

The nearest guard yelped when Tor skidded to a halt at his feet, a small stick dropped on the ground. He sighed and shook his head, bending down to pick it up and toss it for the mutt. He wasn't expecting Tor to leap up and tackle him, stealing his hat.

"Hey! You mangy mutt! Bring that back!" He shouldered his rifle and ran off after the thief.

His partner turned around at the disturbance but only laughed at the sight before resuming his dutiful march.

Hakon slipped past and made his way to the center of the lot where no guards could easily see. He looked around and smiled when he spied a motorcycle lying in wait. He straddled it and extended his Æsir as he turned the engine over, destroying the tracker placed in all SHIELD vehicles.

He magically kept the engine quiet until the guards were mostly distracted, then casually drove out the front gate with only a brief stop by the lot's naïve guards station. No official order had yet come from Fury to detain all scientists…or just him.

He peacefully drove out across the desert until he came upon a mesa and waited in its shade. Not much time passed before Tor found him, not looking very thrilled by his hot run. He winced and stretched out his magic to heal the blistered pads, and Tor sent him a look—he was going to demand Icelandic cod for this.

Hakon already relented the battle and wrapped his fingers in Tor's fur, teleporting them to a nearby branch, then jumping along to the New York branch. From there, they drove by the old Stark mansion that Tony still kept around, even if he rarely used it, and borrowed a car. It was more than believable that Tony would pick them up, via private jet or Iron Man suit and he would back him up on it at the drop of an axe.

Torbjörg huffed unhappily as he laid his head on the rolled down window.

Eventually, they rolled up to the apartment address Phil had given him over the last call. Hakon sat in the car for a minute, staring at the unassuming building and trying to think of what he'd say to his lost friend. A pang shot through him as he thought about Steve, about the time and people he lost—should he tell him about Bucky now? He sighed. Probably not, not until he was a bit more grounded and less likely to give something away accidentally.

Tor barked and looked out the window as the door to the building opened and a familiar blond walked out. Hakon smiled and opened his door, but couldn't get out before Tor shot across his lap and ran up to Steve.

Steve yelped as he was suddenly tackled by a large, black dog who insisted on licking his face. He sputtered and tried shoving the dog off gently but eventually gave up and curled into the fetal position.

Hakon shook his head with a laugh. "Tor, come on bud, give the captain a chance to breathe."

Steve's head shot up at the familiar yet aged voice, hands falling away from his face. "H-Hakon?"

Hakon smiled, head tilted to the side. "You don't call, you don't write. I was beginning to think you forgot about me."

Steve was on his feet in an instant and swept Hakon into a firm hug. "You're, you're still alive and—I thought everyone was gone by now."

Hakon's smile fell into remorse as Steve's voice cracked and returned the hug. "Well, Peggy's still around but, uhm, she has Alzheimer's. Didn't Fury or Phil tell you I was still kicking?"

Steve pulled back, keeping a firm hand on Hakon's shoulder—as if he was afraid his friend would disappear if he didn't. "Fury hasn't said terribly much and who's Phil? C-come inside and let's talk."

Hakon grinned again and followed Steve in with Tor trailing beside them, tongue flopped out lazily.

Steve looked down, scrutinizing the mutt. "That cannot be the same dog from the war…"

Hakon chuckled. "Always named Torbjörg. So, how are you doing with…waking up?"

Steve unlocked his apartment with a soft sigh. "It's…difficult. I'm still wrapping my head around the end of the war, let alone anything else."

Hakon nodded and sat on the couch while Tor curled a tight circle on the rug. " It was a bit hard to adjust normally. I can't imagine doing it your way."

Steve snorted but smiled. "So, how did you know I was pulled out? Fury said he's keeping it on the down low so I can recuperate without the crowds."

Hakon hummed. "I'm still a part of SHIELD. Pretty high ranking even if some don't wish it to be so."

"You're-?" Steve started then broke off with a shake of his head.

Hakon chuckled. "Howard largely talked me into it then I had to stay to make sure they didn't do anything stupid…which I regret to say I don't think I fully accomplished."

Steve nodded with a grunt of understanding. "Oh, um, can I get you something to drink?"

Hakon beamed and requested a tea before they settled into a longer conversation, reveling in the re-found connection.

They chatted until sundown when the front door was thrown open with a bang. Steve was on his feet in an instant, standing in front of Hakon with fists ready before fumbling when the dark skinned man entered the light—glaring scathingly at Hakon.

"Hyse!"

Hakon peeked around Steve and grinned infuriatingly. "Hey Fury."

Fury nearly shook with rage. "I remember strictly forbidding you from coming here. Do you realize we had to postpone a test because you were missing and your machine started acting up?"

Hakon huffed and looked skywards. Drat, they could have gone through with that. "Yeah, I remember. I also remember walking out the front gate right after that. Really, if that was you 'forbidding me', it's a good thing you never worked with Schmidt. He at least posed a challenge in escaping."

Steve looked back at Hakon worriedly. "Is he holding you against your will?"

Hakon shrugged. "I guess you could call it that, I really didn't want to be a part of the project—I never wanted it to happen in the first place but I was overruled so I gotta make sure no one does anything stupid." He looked back at Fury and smirked. "But, really, it was just a bit of fun and I wanted to see my friend. I've waited some eighty years, I think we both deserved it—high priority experiment or otherwise."

Fury continued to glower at Hakon. "We are going to be having words about this, Hyse."

Hakon shook his head. "Sure, but words are cheap and your security leaves much to be desired if I could ride right out."

"And that will be rectified." Fury hissed through gritted teeth.

Hakon sighed and turned to Steve, offering a smile. "It was great seeing you again. Hopefully we can get that brunch soon."

Hakon left with Tor and Fury nodded curtly to Steve. Steve stared at his door for a while even after they left before smiling to himself, feeling lighter than he had since the fateful train.

Hakon ran through the facility as the alarms wailed, heart hammering in his chest. No, no, what's going on? There was no test scheduled until next week!

People scurried all around him, some going up to evacuate and others going down to pack up equipment or experiments.

He felt the Tesseract flare and another's magic with it. He stumbled into the wall, gasping from a bond attack. Tor whined and lowered himself under Hakon, nuzzling his cheek and wrapping their bond firmly around him.

Hakon drew in several breaths and reached a trembling hand for Tor, using him as balance for real, and not like when he just acted old. His mind was a blur as he tried to process the latest attack—it had been some months since the last one, something which frightened him almost as much as them happening.

This latest one felt different. Loki's magic was clearly there. It had to be to make the bond, but there was another magic—almost like it was strangling his.

Tor looked down the hallway then back at his other half, whining again. He'd prefer to leave, especially with Hakon in this state.

Hakon shook his head and pressed on until they reached the main lab with the Tesseract self-activating and all their equipment going crazy. He took a chair and cursed when he saw the readings—the Tesseract was bringing someone through while still using their machines. Machines that were in no way, shape or form, ready for such a leap.

He growled and started typing in commands, activating the teleporter before something disastrous happened. He had planned to use it on the big test next week but now was as good a time as any…especially if they all wanted to live. The computer chimed against the command. He stood from the console and trotted over to the collectors to manually activate the teleporter.

Hakon ripped open the panel when a scientist yelped as they poked at the Tesseract and it sparked. A blue tendril slithered along the cables—as it was meant to do—and coursed across Hakon's arm. He shouted in pain and retreated from the collectors.

The pain of it was lost to him as at the moment, the small flicker from the Tesseract touched him—he saw an army and before them what must be their grey, grotesque leader…standing next to a grinning Loki.

He curled around his lightly seared arm, tears spilling down his cheeks. They were not from pain but despair—I'm too late.

He finally noticed Fury standing over him, a hand on his back while trying to pry his injured arm out. "Hyse, are you okay? What happened?"

Hakon grit his teeth and stood, pushing Fury's hand away. "We-we have to get out of here."

Selvig frowned from his spot near Fury. "She might be, misbehaving but I don't think it's dangerous. She just keeps turning everything back on."

Hakon shook his head and hurried back over to his computer. "No, not the Tesseract."

Fury frowned now. "Hyse, what is going on?"

"I don't know." Hakon tried to steady his voice, trying to hide the shiver as he remembered the brief vision. Of Loki, how his eyes were not green but the same blue of the staff he held. Even from the brief flicker of an image he could tell that the staff's power was the same that had ripped Loki away—that smothered their bond time and time again. "But the Tesseract isn't just turning on on its own accord. Someone else is activating it."

Fury's frown deepened, glancing back at the Tesseract that seemed to be glowing brighter. "And there is no way to sever the connection?"

Hakon's face scrunched as he tried overriding commands only to be blocked or overridden again a moment later. "Not now, everything's far too gone."

Fury growled but stalked away, ordering Barton to report.

"Doctor, it's spiking again!" A woman's voice called out.

Hakon already knew it was spiking. He could feel both its delight to be in use as well as Loki drawing nearer—the bond not so walled off now that his proximity was so much closer. His hand clenched in Torbjörg's fur who pressed against his thigh comfortingly.

Fury and Clint stepped up onto the platform with the Tesseract, Clint's arms crossed. "No one's come or gone. Selvig's clean, no contacts, no IMs. After his stunt with Rogers, Hakon's been tame—chats up some agents while death glaring others. Nothing unusual. If there's been any tampering, it wasn't at this end."

Hakon almost snorted, biting his lip to keep from smirking. If only he knew…if only it was actually from me. He heard Selvig mutter quietly from his station only to find the scientist hovering over his shoulder, checking his readings before running back to his own.

Fury looked at Clint with some surprise. Clint returned it with an unamused frown. "The cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right? Doors open from both sides. That's what I've been picking up from the good doctors."

Fury's eyebrows rose as he looked back at the Tesseract. "That's some of my understanding. I was just surprised you listened that much."

Clint crossed his arms and lightly glared at his director.

Hakon felt the Tesseract flare moments before the computers read the spikes and the cube pulsed, resonating throughout the base. Everyone jumped, most looking up at the ceiling in fear of it collapsing.

The Tesseract sparked and thrummed loudly, power pooling as it prepared to bring someone through.

Everyone watched in trepidation except for Hakon who swore in Norse and ran over to the cables connecting the Tesseract to the collectors. Fury snarled in frustration and snagged him around the waist before he could reach them, fearing the unknown and what could happen should they break the semi-stable link. Hakon squirmed in his grip for a second until a beam shot out of the cube to the collectors.

He sagged in defeat as the portal stabilized temporarily and he recognized the stars beyond. I was so close. Damn it all, if I had only acted sooner…Loki, I'm sorry. Fury released him after he stilled and Tor sat next to him.

The portal pulsed and dispelled as the jump completed, the misty energy rushing outward only to find nowhere to escape, forcing it to follow the curvature of the wall to the domed ceiling.

Hakon's breath caught horribly and he staggered back a step, clutching Tor's fur tightly, as he stared at the burnt and useless collector's pad where a figure now knelt. A figure and color scheme he knew too well.

SHIELD agents ran forward, guns at the ready and stood between the unknown and the scientists.

Hakon felt hope creep up his throat, pleading to the Norns that Loki had actually escaped from wherever he was.

Loki stood slowly, taking that moment to look around and gather his bearings. He knew instantly that this was indeed Midgard, the pitiful excuse for soldiers creeping closer to him with woeful armor and weaponry was enough to confirm the link between the stone in his scepter and that within the Tesseract had brought him to the correct place. He gazed out at the collection of frightened scientists and warry SHIELD agents, and director. This will be fun.

His thoughts and gaze were immediately seized at the sight of the oldest man there—but his eyes were too young and he knew that face. Fear swelled beneath the scepter's control.

Hakon stared at Loki in concern and worry and reached out along their bond, startled at how he looked. Hair flared and not kept; even in battle it never looked so wild. Deep pain also shone in his eyes for anyone who knew to look for it. He was also pale and the rim of his eyes red, he looked more sick than battle ready which is what his stance indicated.

That was momentarily wiped away as a thrill of joy surged through him when he felt Loki again—no longer closed off—but his magic was smothered and choked. He pressed closer to Torbjörg and he wrapped their bond tighter as Loki tried to withdraw his bond as much as possible, fear constantly surging from the bit of connection left.

"Sir! Please put down the spear." Fury demanded of the newcomer.

Loki looked down at the scepter-spear in his hands, as if seeing it for the first time. Hakon saw the devious glint in his eyes the second before he acted, diving for the floor with Tor on top of him. Loki grinned manically as he held the spear out and fired at Fury, Clint tackling him to the ground.

Several others shrieked and dove as the computer behind Fury was sent flying.

The agents responded immediately and fired upon the attacker, foolishly aiming for his chest and the Asgardian Steel armor. Hakon looked up from his prone position and desperately tried to call out through the bond, silently pleading with him to stop. But he was ignored, as he unfortunately expected. Whatever happened to Loki, he wasn't in his right mind now, if he was there at all.

Selvig was by his side as Loki dealt with the other agents, helping him up and out with the other fleeing scientists. He felt Hakon shudder as he held his arm, never guessing it was from his own memories of mind control. The only explanation of what could have happened to his patron, why his eyes were so unnaturally blue and why his magic was being smothered by the one he attacked with.

Their retreat was hampered by a body being thrown in their way, subconsciously back peddling into the deathly quiet room again.

Selvig gasped as Loki pointed his spear at Clint and Hakon grunted, gripping Tor tightly as the room spiked with the same malevolent magic he felt just before Loki was silenced two years ago.

Selvig finally shook himself and let Hakon go, hurrying to his assistant's side and breathing in relief that she was still alive. Loki left Clint, who holstered his weapon, and started going around brainwashing all those still living.

Hakon moved to the shadows while Fury removed the Tesseract and sealed it away in its case. "Folke," He whispered into the com on his wrist, "Folke!"

:Chief? What happened? The base shook.:

"Loki's here, no time to explain but he's being mind controlled. Alert the Archipelago.:

Phil sputtered a few incoherent words before finding his voice again. :Alright, the instant I can get a bathroom break. What's going on now?:

"I'm about to do something stupid."

:Chief.: Phil hissed in warning.

Hakon peeked around the edge to see Fury standing with the case in hand, backing away a few steps but mostly stalling. "I know, you and Astrid can yell at me later but I have to try—he's never hurt me before. Maybe…if I could just get something out of him. Call ya back, Folke."

"I've come too far for anything else." Loki retorted to a comment Hakon missed. "I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose."

Hakon silently crept around the pillar but stayed in the shadows. He felt along their bond and his lips curled up, feeling the spear's magic smothering it and retracting when the foreign magic lashed out against his probing.

Selvig stood in recognition at Loki's pronouncement. "Loki. Brother of Thor."

Loki's eye twitched as he turned to glare at the doctor.

Fury held up a hand and said calmly, "We have no quarrel with your people."

Loki smirked at the director. "An ant has no quarrel with a boot."

Fury's eyebrows rose. "You planning on stepping on us?"

"I come with glad tidings." Loki continued to smile as he walked closer, eyeing Selvig before turning back to Fury. "Of a world made free."

"Free from what?" Fury asked with a tired sigh.

"Freedom." Loki answered simply, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. "Freedom is life's great lie; and once you accept that in your heart…"

He turned to touch Selvig with the scepter when Hakon jumped out of the shadows. Clint whirled around at the shift in light but he had already tackled Loki to the ground. Hakon grit his teeth when he felt the scepter spike again, too late in saving Selvig.

"Hyse!" He heard Fury shout, nearly in an outrage.

Hakon ignored him as he and Loki rolled. He, somehow, managed to land on top of the trickster.

A brainwashed agent brandished his rifle at the attacking scientist but Tor lept from the same shadow and clamped down on his arm. Clint drew his pistol to shoot the mutt but Tor ducked behind the man he maimed before taking refuge from the maelstrom of bullets.

Loki bared his teeth at his attacker then paused, pained recognition flashing in his eyes. "Hiccup."

"Fight it!" Hakon yelled, brandishing Loki's dagger and driving it down.

Loki's eyes darkened and moved his hand to throw Hakon off magically before the knife could strike his chest. Hakon twisted as he threw his weight into the attack and to Loki's surprise—though it really shouldn't have been—the knife was not driven to his chest but to the ground beside the scepter, pinning the accursed spear to the ground.

Distantly, they heard gunshots and Fury's cry as he started to try and help Hakon, but his body collapsed to the floor. Hakon was too distracted to wonder whether he might actually be dead or not.

Loki growled in annoyance and kicked Hakon off with enough force to shatter bones of an ordinary Midgardian. Hakon yelped in pain but kept his hold on Loki's wrist, pulling him along. They both felt the scepter beat furiously with the premature loss of Loki's contact.

Hakon beamed and scrambled away from Loki—if there was a possibility that he could control the spear, he might be able to break its control over his magical father.

Their bond flared in panic, Loki's panic, and Hakon felt Loki snag him by his collar and throw him into the nearby pillar—pinning him there with a forearm to his neck.

Hiccup! Please, stop acting rashly!

Hakon jolted when he heard Loki's voice in his mind along with their bond fully opened again. I'm trying to help! I'm not letting you fight alone again. He shot back, eyes half glaring, half pleading.

Loki glared at him as he called the scepter to his hand. You can't, not right now. Stop fighting me and play along before I am unable to control any of my actions anymore. Please, Liten Listig, do not give me cause to repeat the past.

Hakon blinked in confusion before gasping as a rush of magic swept over him. He looked down to see the scepter tip pinned against his chest…except it wasn't the scepter, it was an illusion. He felt Loki's magic wrap around him and collect around his eyes but the scepter's magic was kept at bay despite it filling the air with a hungry drone. I want an explanation for this.

When we're alone and not in immediate danger. Loki reassured, releasing him from the wall.

A low growl echoed from a nearby pillar and Clint swung around to shoot again but Loki held up his hand. "Do not fire. The dog will not attack with his master under my control."

Torbjörg glared at Loki but ran to Hakon who gave him a cursory pat on the head and reassurance through their bond that everything was mostly ok again. Tor calmed instantly and the others no longer paid him any mind.

Selvig marched away from the computer, face grave. "The portal is collapsing in on itself. We have maybe two minutes before this goes critical."

"Well then." Loki said before marching up to the case Fury dropped and whirling around.

The others followed silently. Hakon was at the rear, a bit slower from the multiple magical attacks and short but painful fight. He frowned when noticed Loki hiding a limp, failing once with a hiss.

Clint stopped suddenly and looked back at him, to which he raised a curious eyebrow.

Loki also stopped and glared at the archer. "What is the meaning of your impediment?"

Clint frowned and gestured with his chin at Hakon. "He is slowing us down too much."

Hakon glared at the man. "Well I am old and was just thrown into a wall. You're lucky I can walk at all."

Clint tilted his head, almost uncaringly but there was an amused smirk ghosting his lips. "That was your own fault."

Loki growled and thrust the case into Selvig's arms then marched up to Hakon, picking him up bridal style and continuing the brisk pace out of the collapsing facility.

"I can walk!" Hakon protested and weakly tried to push away from Loki but his patron held tight. After a futile minute he gave up and sulked, he was so done with pretending to be old. As soon as this mess is fixed, I'm faking my death.

Loki only remained amused through Hakon's attempts to extract himself while still appearing feeble, but said nothing. However, deep down within the smothering magic of the scepter, he was infinitely relieved to have his Chosen safely back in his arms where he could protect him from him.

They marched at a brisk pace through the facility, coming to an underground garage. Clint went on ahead and pointed out a few vehicles they could use, barely pausing to keep up any illusion with the SHIELD agent stationed there.

Hakon heard Hill complain, a woman he only met a scant handful of times with Fury, before her confusion turned to worry when she saw the oddly dressed and unknown person carrying him.

Loki took the bed of the small truck and set him in the corner, kneeling in front of him and holding onto the railing. Tor jumped in behind them and wheedled his way next to Hakon, sending Loki a warning glare. Loki merely smiled at the protective familiar before returning his attention to the hazardous situation around them.

Hill's radio suddenly crackled to life with Fury's voice and Loki sneered but Clint instantly reacted, shooting at Hill as she rolled for cover. Hakon couldn't help the wince, itching to help.

Loki caught his twitch but remained impassive. School your emotions or at least your face, Liten Listig.

Does it matter as long as I'm not fighting you? Hakon asked, grabbing hold of Tor as the truck jerked into motion and reaching for the railing with his other hand.

Loki shifted so his back was to Hakon, pinning him to the back of the cab so he wouldn't slide around. You must sell it to your colleges that you are under my complete control, are you not?

Hakon winced but it was maskable by the onslaught of bullets from the pursuing vehicles.

Loki sniffed as the foolish Midgardians tried to put up a fight. The scepter and the magic from it constricted around him again as the pursuers neared, demanding he destroy them. Regrettably, he cut his bond with Hiccup, his Æsir exhaustedly collapsing and relenting fully to the scepter and his commands.

Hakon grit his teeth and held onto Tor and the truck, burying his face into Loki's back—this harrowing ride only heightening his disdain of these metal death machines.

Loki jarred a few times and twice Hakon heard and felt the scepter whine, building up power, before releasing and impacting with a car behind them.

Hakon stared in mute horror as the base around them collapsed, already burying Hill. They shot out of the caverns and tore down the road, only to be pursued by a chopper—Fury sitting in the open doorway and firing at them.

Loki shoved Hakon down further and stood over the roof of the cab, shooting the helicopter down with the scepter.

Hakon heard the metal of the helicopter screech as it skidded across the earth and hugged Tor tightly. He was so confused and everything he had thought out, to find and help his lost patron, had gone straight to Helheim. He was lost on what he could possibly do next, a fear that he hadn't felt in years gripping him tightly

He looked up as Loki placed a hand on his back and sat down again, free for the moment. He looked back at the soft glow of the burning shrubs around the downed chopper before looking back at Loki. "What-?"

Thoughts, Hiccup. I do not trust spoken words even around those the scepter controls.

Hakon sighed and forcibly relaxed some of his hold on his best friend who remained firmly pressed against him. What's going on? Why-?

I cannot say much. Loki looked across the dark sky and empty road behind them, scanning for anymore pursuers. Hakon started to protest but Loki shut him down. Liten Listig, I cannot. Please, I am doing this for you, for all of Midgard. If I don't…

What happened? Hakon leaned against Loki, even in his brainwashed state, he was still finally here after so long. Why didn't you come back after destroying Laufey's kingdom?

Loki winced and wrapped an arm around Hakon, the first bits of relief in two years and he refused to let it go. I intended to but—I could not. He shuddered as the scepter pulsed and constricted Loki's Æsir and mind.

Hakon tensed next to him but did not push for anything more, feeling the magic trapping everyone around him lash out and tighten its hold, afraid of losing the little bit of Loki he did have. That didn't stop him from scheming of ways to help, to remove the scepter's power over him.

About an hour later his com pinged, showing Folke's runes. He moved to answer it habitually when Loki snagged his wrist and ripped the communicator off before tossing it out into the desert. He huffed softly but honestly should not have expected anything less.

Loki reasserted his tight hold around Hakon as Clint drove them out farther to some place they could obtain new transportation and begin moving forward with the plan that only those now connected to the scepter knew of.

Hakon sighed and rested his head on Loki's armored shoulder, still stroking Tor's fur. Loki's mouth twitched into a tiny smile, resting his head on Hakon's.

Hiccup's in it now. Hope you have a great week, see y'all soon!
Just as a small note to avoid confusion. I'll be using scepter and spear interchangeably with whatever it resembles more in the scenes. Sometimes its shortened and looks more like a scepter and others it about the same length as him so then I'll be calling it a spear.
