Part 1

Sonic had been dodging Chaos for about 10 minutes, and the exertion was getting to him. Heavy breaths poured into his lungs, but his legs aches, fighting to keep him alive. Chaos hadn't landed a hit yet, but Sonic was getting slower and slower. Chaos kept the same pace, and it's tentacles were closing in.

A few of Sonic's hairs were singed by the creature, and soon his skin was glanced. It didn't sting much, but his elbow was definitely burned a bit. Then another glance came, and another.

Sonic kept jumping back between the trees. He didn't have time to choose where he went, Chaos was too fast.

Sonic's watch rang, the sound bothering Chaos for some reason. The monster slowed down enough for Sonic to get through a few trees. He broke the line of sight and kept going. Then he looked down at the call not recognizing the number.

He did however recognize the symbol of the screen. A circle with an x breaking through it, an active combat message. It had to be the woman with Shadow's group. He answered, rushing back to Shadow while checking for any goop.

"Sonic do you read me?"

"Loud and clear. Lost sight of Chaos. How's Shadow?"

"Still dazed, and can't move. But he is conscious."

Sonic was breaking even some thick branches with his steps, so he started jumping off trunks. His speed increased more and more as the trees thinned out and he got back to Shadow.

For now everyone in the group was still breathing. Chaos was gone, and didn't show any signs of reappearing. Sonic ran over to Shadow who was being treated by the woman from earlier. "Hey." SonicAre you all right?"

"Yeah." Shadow said. "Body's still numb and won't move below the neck. But I think I'm getting something back." Shadow looked at his fingers which showed some twitching, but that was it.

"We need to recapture Chaos." The woman said. "The longer he's free, the more chance he gets his strength back."

Sonic furrowed his brow looking at the woman. "Are you crazy? We lost. If we run into it right now we're all dead."

"That's we need to catch it off guard." The woman had Sonic a gun. "This will shoot a tracker. I don't have fast enough reflexes to hit Chaos. But I think you do."

"Kara." Shadow said. "Sonic doesn't use guns. He'll miss."

Sonic nodded. "I'm more of a fists guy. Maybe I can-" Sonic was now on the ground, covered in dirt. A goopy arm hung in the air where he'd been.

Chaos jumped onto Kara. The creature squeezed her, but she didn't have any burn marks. Sonic jumped at the creature but was batted away. He winced from impact with the ground, but no burns.

As he got up, he noticed Chaos was shaking a little. He jumped at the arm holding Kara, bursting through and grabbing her. Chaos couldn't keep a grip on him as he landed, dropped Kara next to Shadow, and dove back into the creature.

Kara's watch was ringing with a similar tone to his own watch. Chaos slammed him down again, but still couldn't hold onto him or burn anything. He got up, this time dodging around Chaos, which was considerably slower than before. "Kara! Keep your ringtone playing!"

Sonic ducked under a goopy arm, then another. Dodging and weaving between arms fairly easily even with the new limp in his step. "Something about that sound is messing with Chaos!"

Sonic was even able to jump away and move Shadow's injured teammates away from the creature between dodges. He could at least keep it contained.

Kara took Shadow's watch off at his request, turning the ringtone on. For some reason the sound was affecting Chaos more when it came from a second source. The creature slowed down further, and Sonic was keeping up with it blow for blow. She turned on the ringtones for Shadow's teammates before checking the call on her own watch.

"Kara! Come in!"

"Greg?"

"We've got a bomb squad inbound! What happened? We lost all communication with the site."

"Chaos wiped out everyone. Most soldiers are dead. Shadow and several GUN agents arrived to help. He got a few injured agents to safety before fighting Chaos. He and all other GUN agents are incapacitated. Sonic's holding the creature off for now. It seems to be affected by sound waves."

"Copy that! I've already patched you into command, they'll be taking over."

"Captain Kara. This is General Ajax. You mentioned soundwaves affect the creature. Anything else of note?"

"The sound waves were from the combat ringtone. They slow the creature down and the effects appear to be amplifiable. Normal bullets and explosives didn't have any effect, but I believe chemical weapons will affect it.. A hallucigenic gas seemed to affect the creature stunning it temporarily."

"Undertood. Units F-5 and I-5 get within firing range of Chaos. All other units, keep your distance. Focus on getting injured to the incoming medical bay with unit C-2. Captain Kara, the strike team is 2 minutes out. Can you keep Chaos in the area until then?"

"Sonic appears to be holding his own. I can throw a missile beacon at the monster when you're ready to fire."

"Loud and clear. I'm patching you in to the strike team. Units F-5 and I-5 be ready to fire when you receive the captain's signal, confirm."

"F-5 Blue falcon confirmed."

"F-5 Red hawk confirmed."

"F-5 White eagle confirmed."

"I-5 Flying squid confirmed. Inbound 1 minute away."

Sonic kept fighting the Chaos still a step ahead. But the creature was gaining ground. Its body was becoming more solid and despite increasing the volume of the watches, sound was becoming less and less effective.. But the strike team was getting closer and closer. 30 seconds, Chaos was closing in. 20 seconds, Sonic took a hit flying into a tree. 10 seconds, Sonic got up, Chaos chasing him.

"This is Blue falcon! We have eyes on target! Mustard gas is ready to deploy!"

Kara activated the beacon really hoping mustard gas would put Chaos down for good. "Missile beacon's activated!"

"Signal's coming in strong. Awaiting target confirmation."

Chaos grabbed Sonic again. This time he couldn't break free. He managed to keep it from squeezing down by moving, but the creature was wearing him down. Chaos was distracted, Kara could hit it with the beacon, but the gas would kill Sonic.

Kara grazed her side feeling the gas mask clipped to her side. She glanced at it before hearing Sonic scream in pain. She ran at Chaos, pulling her gas mask off her belt and placing it on Sonic as she yelled. "Fire!"

Part 3

-

Shadow watched an explosion of yellow gas in the distance. He struggled to turn to his belly, pushing himself to his knees. He still couldn't stand, but the yellow clouds and smell of garlic were unmistakable. He wouldn't be affected much at this distance, but any closer would likely kill him

A monstrous scream erupted from the cloud as the outline of tentacles flailed around, shrinking and sucking down into the ground.

Eventually he managed to stand up. He legs shook as he made his way to the mostly dissipated cloud of mustard gas. His eyes were a little blurry, but he could make out 2 bodies on the ground. One looked like Sonic, half his head had turned black.

The other was Kara. Neither of the two was moving. On closer inspection, Sonic had a gas mask on. Kara didn't have the same protection. Shadow knew she was dead, but instinctively went to her neck anyway, feeling for a pulse.

There was nothing. She was still warm, but losing heat. Shadow took a deep breath walking over to Sonic. His chest moved up and down, the gas mask making a familiar sucking sound.

His leg looked messed up, and bruises covered his body, but at least he was still alive. Chaos was nowhere to be found. The dirt had shadows of tentacles, but as far as Shadow could tell. The creature was destroyed.

A sound was coming from Shadow's watch. He answered a call. "Does anyone read me?"

"Loud and clear admiral."

"Shadow?" The voice caught itself. "I thought you were incapacitated."

"Debatable if I still am."

A laugh came from the watch before the voice turned serious again. "What happened down there? We lost contact with Kara and visuals are limited."

Shadow looked at the sky which was partially blocked by the still dissipating mustard gas. "Captain Kara was…killed in action."

Shadow took a few moments to compose himself. "Sonic is injured, but alive."

"What about Chaos?"

"There's a shadow of the creature imprinted on the ground. I don't see any other traces. It's possible Chaos escaped. But if it had the chance it would likely attack me or anyone else nearby. So it's either heavily injured…or completely destroyed. For the time being, threat appears neutralized."

A cheer erupted from the watch and Shadow ended the call. He didn't blame anyone for cheering. If Chaos was really no longer a threat, then for the first time in 2 years, the world was finally safe. But at a heavy price. Shadow held Kara closely, as silent tears rolled down his eyes.

Soon a much larger force had arrived. They took the injured for treatment, and gathered the dead for proper burials as best they could. Shadow let Kara's body be taken away.

Military personnel inspected the site for hours, making sure there was no trace of the monster. They didn't find anything, not even residual matter to indicate the creature had existed. The most anyone could find was the shadow left behind.

Underneath the site, in and underground cavern. A blue viscous liquid seeped from a crack in the ceiling. It dropped to the floor in a growing pile of goo. A red glowing emerald sat on top on the pile, as the goo began glowing dimly, growing brighter and brighter as time passed.

@momojifanloki: Primordial monsters have a tendency to be really hard to take down. And even if you manage to kill them, there's no guarantee it'll stick.
