2009
I was currently in Boston. I was dressed in my Yankees gear because I was going to see the Yankees playing at Fenway park. I knew that wearing such a thing wouldn't be a popular look, but I wanted to show my team pride. I also had the best seats in the park, on top of the Green Monster.
"You don't belong here." A Native man told me.
"Hey, I paid for these tickets just like you did." I replied. Okay, I had compelled my way to them, but I still had them.
"Your kind doesn't belong here." He repeated. Did they hate Yankees fans so much that they were making seemingly racist threats towards. It was then that I noticed something around his hip. It was a stake.
I tried to back away before noticing that I was seemingly out of room. His eyes glowed yellow for a second. I looked behind me and did the only thing that I could think of. I jumped off the Green Monster and started to run. It looked like I would be missing the game.
Present
I was currently at the Grill because I was studying with Jamie. I wanted to make sure that she managed to do good in school this semester. I knew that she was smart enough to get all As in her classes. Her main problem with last semester was that she skipped a lot of her classes. Admittedly, some of that was because Mr. Tanner was a terrible teacher but a lot of it was due to substance abuse and I was sure that she wasn't doing that anymore. We were currently reading a book that had been assigned to us together.
"So how are things going with Anna?" I asked her.
"They're pretty good. I'm still a little bit nervous about some things." She explained. "The main one is I'm a little bit scared of hooking up with her."
"Well did the two of you do anything before you became a girl?" I questioned.
"Yes we did, but that was different." She replied. I knew it was different.
"I think that you'll enjoy having sex with Anna. I did." I stated. It was then that I realized that I had never told her that the two of us had had sex before.
"We did you sleep with Anna?" She asked me.
"Well the first time was in the 80s." I explained. "The second time was after we opened the tomb…you two weren't together yet."
Before Jamie could say anything, Damon suddenly appeared.
"What are you kids talking about?" He asked.
"We were trying to find a decent place to study." Jamie answered as she grabbed her stuff. "I guess that's not something that we can do here."
"Well then I guess I'll see you later at Jenna's barbecue." He remarked.
"How did you know about that?" I questioned.
"Please it was my idea. Jenna and Mason were school friends, so I had Ric suggest inviting him over and boom: instant party." Damon explained.
"But I don't think Jenna really wants you there. She doesn't really like you." Jamie pointed out as a waitress gave him a box.
"That's why I'm hoping this apple pie will soften her up." Damon remarked.
"What are you up to?" Jamie asked. He then whispered something in her ear like he didn't want me to know, even though she would probably tell me.
From there I went home to decide what I was going to wear to the party. It was there that I noticed Rachel was in our room.
"Hi." I greeted her as I started to undress. "How's Caroline doing?"
"She's acting kind of weird." She admitted.
"Well she's probably just adjusting to being a vampire. "How's this look?"
I had picked out a black tee with a pink bow on it and black leather miniskirt.
"It'll look good on you as long as you don't want me to wear it." She quipped as I rolled my eyes and started to get changed. "So are you dressing up for Jamie?"
"When are you going to stop teasing me about my love life?" I asked her as I put some stockings on.
"Well maybe if you got a girlfriend, I wouldn't tease you." She responded. "Now I need to go get Caroline so we can go to the barbecue together."
Not long after she left, I decided to leave myself. I noticed that Jamie wasn't downstairs, so I decided to go up to her room to get her…and I immediately regretted it. I blushed and exited the room.
"You need to knock." Jamie told me through the door.
"Well I didn't know that you had her over." I pointed out. I was also pretty sure that Anna had left out the window. "I'm sorry. I was trying to bring you down to the barbecue."
At that point, Jamie came out fully dressed in a white long-sleeved tee and jeans. That really made her butt look good. Okay, I really needed to control my attraction to Jamie. I had already almost ruined one relationship and I really didn't want to ruin another one. I then took Jamie downstairs. Rachel was sampling a little bit of the snacks while Elena was on the phone. I couldn't help but wonder what was taking Stefan so long. I thought that he would be here by now.
"Are you talking to Stefan?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah." Elena replied. "Well I was trying to. He didn't answer."
That was a little bit strange. One thing that I couldn't help but wonder was if he was with a certain someone. Of course, I didn't have any proof of such a thing.
"I'm sure he's fine." Caroline remarked as she started to eat some chips. "God I cannot stop eating. Stefan said that it's good for the cravings."
I then looked at what she was wearing and couldn't help but laugh on the inside. If I didn't know better, based on what she was wearing and how she was talking, I would have thought that she was pregnant.
"Yeah, Stefan hates that part." Elena remarked.
"Maybe he doesn't want to come because he doesn't want to think about biting your neck?" Caroline suggested. That was a bit of an odd thing to say. I was also pretty sure that that wasn't an issue for him.
"That's never been a problem before." Elena pointed out. I decided to check my phone to see if Stefan had sent me any messages. It looked like whatever he was doing, he hadn't told me about it.
"All I'm saying is that he is constantly tempted by the sweet smell of your blood." Caroline continued. She made it sound so appetizing. I then noticed that I had some veins growing under my eyes.
"Can you please stop. You're making me hungry." I requested as I took some deep breaths.
I was pretty sure that Caroline was not trying to do that. I just thought that she had gotten a little carried away. Also, I couldn't help but wonder what she and Stefan had talked about while they were doing their hunting earlier. Had he really told her about that stuff? Had he also told her about his issues with blood?
"All I'm saying is it was why I attacked Matt the other day. I don't really think that a relationship between a human and a vampire can work." She added. It was true that she might have been right about such a thing, but it probably wasn't something that she should have said to explain. Not to mention, she was human and her relationship with Rachel went pretty well. Maybe Rachel should come and get her so she would stop putting her foot in her mouth. At that point, she did come out.
"Hey, the food's ready." Rachel told us. I knew that I couldn't wait to have some of those ribs.
"Finally, I'm starving." Caroline remarked. It would probably a good idea for her to put something in her mouth other than her foot.
One thing that I really liked about living in the South was that everyone had their own recipes for ribs and the Gilberts were no exception. The sauce contained a spicy mix of cayenne and habanero peppers with a touch of lemon for added flavor mixed in with standard barbecue ingredients. Sure there was a lot of good food in New York, but Southern food was kind of unmatched.
After we done eating, Damon had the idea for us to play some Pictionary. I wasn't sure why he wanted to do that, but we were playing. I was going first for some reason. I tried to think of something to put on there. I wasn't really that at these types of games. It was why I generally preferred just to drink at parties. I ended up drawing a cheerleader and put some musical notes around her to indicate that she was singing.
"Ooh High School Musical." Jamie answered. I was hoping that she would get it because I had watched it with her recently. I thought about using drugs to show she was high, but I figured that would be in poor taste.
After I was done, Damon went up there and he started to draw a dog of some kind wearing a ballet skirt. I tried to think what kind of thing he had drawn as some guesses flew through the air. I then looked closer and noticed something. There was no way that he would do that, was there?
"It's Dances with Wolves." Mason answered. Of course he would. He's Damon after all.
"How is that a wolf?" Jenna asked in disbelief. It kind of looked like a wolf, but Damon really needed to learn some subtlety. Of course, Damon and subtlety really didn't go together.
From there, I headed to the kitchen. I really wanted to get a beer because I was a little bit bored. I wasn't even that much of a beer drinker, but it was pretty much the only thing that they had that had any alcohol in it. I grabbed a can and took a sip of it. It wasn't even good beer, but it was good enough.
"So I kind of hoped that this would be a little more fun." I told Rachel after she came into the kitchen.
"Well it seems like these parties are more for the adults and at the moment, that doesn't really include us." She commented. I frowned because she was right. I just didn't really like being treated like a child.
At that point, Elena came into the kitchen. I couldn't help but wonder if she had heard from Stefan yet. I hadn't told anyone my idea of where he was because I didn't want anyone to worry about him and I also didn't want to provide incorrect information if I was wrong.
"So have you heard from Stefan yet?" Rachel inquired.
"No." Elena answered. Before she could say anything else, Damon walked into the room.
"It seems like Aunt Jenna is starting to get a little tipsy." He commented. I couldn't help but wonder what he seemed to gain by getting her drunk. It seemed like there really wasn't anything to gain.
"Please stop supplying her with alcohol." Elena requested. I didn't think he would listen to that.
At that point, Jenna walked into the kitchen and I hid my can of beer behind my back. I wasn't sure if she had a problem with me drinking, but I didn't want to take a chance. She probably wouldn't even reprimand me for drinking it since I didn't live there and it was Damon's responsibility to prevent me from drinking. She did look like she was a little bit drunk at least.
"There you are." She greeted us as she put her elbows on the counter. "Isn't it fun having all of us here?"
"Thank you for inviting me, Jenna." Damon replied as Jenna at scowled at him. It was pretty clear that his attempts to get her to like him weren't working.
"Did I have a choice?" She asked. He was pretty much only there because he was Mr. Saltzman's friend. I couldn't help but wonder if I should have invited my mom to come, but there were two good reasons why I hadn't done that. One she was not invited into the house, even though that wouldn't be too big of a problem. The other thing was I wasn't sure how I would explain my relation to her because she didn't really look older enough to be my mom, unless she had me really young and I didn't want anyone to think about her that way. Maybe I could say that she was my aunt.
'I understand that you don't seem to like me very much." Damon commented.
"No, you don't. You have never dated you." She remarked. I couldn't help but wonder what she meant by that. Did she know that he had a thing for Elena? Had she dated bad boys before? Well Logan was, but I really wasn't consider him a bad boy as much as he was a jerk, unless there were things about him that I didn't know. "I have dated several of you."
"Ooh these are nice." Damon declared as he looked over for cutlery. I couldn't help but think that it was a bit of an odd change of subject.
"They're my grandmother's silver set." Jenna explained. Oh no. Was that what he had told Jamie about earlier? I looked at the devious look on Damon's face realized that he had an idea. Also if they were antiques, why did she just have them out?
"Damon, don't do anything stupid." I told her after Jenna left the room, even though I was pretty sure that would be like telling him not to breathe. We also didn't even know if werewolves were weak to silver. There was nothing in the information that we had found that would lead us to believe it. I supposed it was possible, but it probably wasn't something that we should count on. Damon then grabbed a knife out of it and I was pretty sure that he was going to do something stupid. I just hoped that this wouldn't end poorly for us.
A few minutes later, all of us were in the kitchen for dessert. I really did want some of the apple pie. I hoped that there would be some left over. I noticed that Elena still looked worried because she was probably wondering where Stefan was. I didn't know if I could stall her even though I wasn't really trying to stall her. Anyway, Damon had decided to leave the knife that he had picked out before in order to cut the pie. I still had a really bad feeling that he was going to do something stupid.
"Mason, why don't you start us off?" Damon suggested. Mason then looked at the knife hesitantly before he decided to just grab a piece with his hands. Was the silver actually true? All of us stared at him as he grabbed it.
"Forgive me, I'm an animal." He apologized. All I knew was now that he had some, I wanted some. I grabbed the knife and got myself a plate and began to eat it.
"So, Mason, you and Jenna never dated?" Mr. Saltzman asked. I couldn't help but wonder if he was feeling a little insecure, even though I was pretty sure that Jenna had no plans to leave him.
"No, she was always in Logan Fell Land." Mason explained.
"That was my greatest mistake." Jenna mused. "Mason was a catch. He had lots of women lining up to date him."
"Hmm I always pegged you for more of a lone wolf." Damon quipped. I wanted to groan. He really needed to stop making so many puns.
"Well I'm sure that I wasn't half of the lady killer that you were." Mason responded. Now he was doing it too. I wanted to put my hand over my face, but that would look weird. "Besides I have a girlfriend now."
"Who?" Jamie asked.
"You don't know her." Mason replied.
A few minutes later, I was still in the kitchen with Damon walked in.
"Can you please stop?" I requested.
"Stop what?" He retorted.
At that moment, Mason walked in.
"So, this has been a bit of a fun party." He noted. "Your name's Brandy right? You're Kelsey's friend."
"Yes, and her student." I added. "Did you invite her to come with you?"
"I did, but she thought it was weird to come over to a party at one of her students' houses." Mason declared. Apparently, Mr. Saltzman didn't have that same issue. I couldn't help but wonder how the school felt about him dating Elena and Jamie's aunt. "So this has been nice, but don't pretend that I don't know what this is about."
"So you know then." I commented.
"Yeah and I wanted to tell you that I'm not enemy." Mason declared.
"You attacked my brother." Damon pointed out.
"I wasn't able to get myself locked up in time. All this fighting between vampires and werewolves isn't really something that I'm interested in. How about we just agree to be friends and we won't have any problems." Mason offered.
"Sure." Damon declared as he shook Mason's hand. I still wasn't very convinced that Damon would adhere to that. All I knew was if he attacked Kelsey, I would be pissed.
At that point, I noticed that Elena looked like she was ready to leave.
"Would I be a bad friend if I went to go check on Stefan?" She asked.
"No." I answered.
"You don't need to be clingy about it." Caroline offered. She was really acting weirder than normal and I really wanted to know the reason why.
"It's not being clingy if she hasn't seen him all day." I pointed out.
"I'll drive you then." Caroline stated before she gave Rachel a peck on the lips. "I'll see you later."
With that the two of them left, leaving us with Jamie.
"Something is definitely up with her." Rachel commented.
"We don't know that." I assured her. "She could just be adjusting. So, Jamie, your birthday is coming up soon. Is there anything you want?"
"I want a car." Jamie stated. Well, I supposed that was what teenagers generally wanted when they turned 16. I couldn't help but wonder what Anna was going to get her.
"Ooh I know a great place that sells and fixes old cars." Rachel replied. "I can get you something."
"I'm pretty sure that Jenna is already going to buy me a car." Jamie declared. Not to mention, it would raise a lot of questions how we managed to get the money…no wait the Salvatores were rich. Well she would probably still rather a more conventional car.
"So have you and Anna had sex yet?" Rachel asked. I knew that I shouldn't have been surprised that she was asking her that. Both Jamie and I blushed at that. "Why are you blushing?"
"Is she always like this?" Jamie asked me,
"Simply put: yes." I answered. I grew to love Rachel the way that she was, but I really did wish that she could be a little perverted sometimes. At that moment, I realized that people were starting to leave, but the two of us were still talking to Jamie, so we could stay. "So do you want to hear my theory on why Stefan isn't here today?"
I knew it was a bit of a stretch, but I definitely wouldn't put it past her. She seemed like someone who would do such a thing. Or maybe Stefan had gotten the upper hand on her. I had heard choking. Perhaps he was torturing her for information or something. I hoped that one of those things was why she had someone turn Jamie into a girl.
"What?" Rachel asked.
"I think he's been with Katherine." I stated. In my opinion, torturing her for information probably wasn't as important as killing her. We really didn't need to know what she knew as much as we needed her dead. I didn't care why as long as she got a wooden stake in her heart.
After a little while. Rachel and I went home. I knew that we had a few things to talk about. The first thing came up when we were walking inside.
"So why did you blush when I asked if Jamie had been having sex?" She inquired. I also really wished that I could keep a secret from her but as soon as she figured out that I was hiding something, she would bug me until I told her.
"Okay, so I went to get Jamie for the party and I walked on her and Anna." I explained. I was pretty sure that I had seen more of Anna than I had of Jamie. I was still pretty embarrassed by it.
"Wow you really ruined their first time." She remarked with a grin.
"It wasn't their first time…just the first time that they were both girls." I argued. That didn't make it better and I said that I was sorry about it.
Once we got inside, we found that Stefan was there.
"So we have a problem." He told us. "Katherine was in the house earlier, but she got out and I don't know if she'll come back."
Well there was the issue that she could try to kill us in our sleep, but she had already been able to do that and hadn't tried it, so I didn't think that she was going to.
"Why did you let her get away?" I questioned.
"She's immune to vervain," Stefan answered. Okay, that was a problem. "She built up an immunity somehow."
"So then what are we going to do?" Rachel inquired.
"I don't know but there's also something else that you need to know." Stefan declared. "Elena and I think that she may have threatened to Caroline to spy on us and keep us apart."
That must have been why Caroline was acting so weird because she had to do what Katherine told her. I couldn't help but wonder how Katherine managed to convince but it was quite possible that she had threatened someone close to Caroline.
At that point, Damon came into the house with a bloody knife. It was the same knife that he had taken from Elena. I would need to remember to wash that and get it back in with the rest of them because you were supposed to keep those together. He looked distraught.
"What did you do?" I asked.
"I may have stabbed Mason with some silver and it may have not worked." He explained. I couldn't help but sigh because he went and did something stupid.
"Damon, I told you not to do something stupid." I reminded him. "Why didn't you listen to me? I bet Mason wasn't too thrilled about being stabbed in the back."
"It wasn't in the back. It was in the front." Damon argued. That was not the point. He wasn't supposed to stab him anywhere. "But yeah he did say that I had made an enemy."
I sighed because I sometimes wished that I hadn't been born into this family. I was probably the most normal of the three of us even though I did have some of my own issues. Rachel came into the room a little bit later.
"So it looks like Damon might have gone and fucked us over." I explained.
"Isn't that just a normal day of the week for us?" Rachel quipped. I sighed once again. "Hey we're going to get past this, just like we are going to find a way to stop Katherine. I know it."
So not a lot happened in this chapter, but it's definitely setting up for bigger things. Also Brandy is still close to Rachel even though she has her friendship with Bonnie. Please don't forget to review.
