Maybelline Hudson: Heir To A Racing Legacy Chapter 4

By the time Doc and Maybelline arrive at the courthouse, everyone else is already present including the defendant Lightning McQueen.

And the townspeople are not at all happy with how McQueen wrecked their small town and businesses.

Everyone's barely making ends meet as this is and this is going to set a bunch of them back financially quite considerably.

Maybelline is already bracing herself internally for her father's reaction the moment he sets eyes on Lightning McQueen. No question in the world that Doc is going to immediately recognize Lightning McQueen for the race car that he is and when that occurs there are so many different directions the outcome could take.

As he enters Doc Hudson is muttering angrily under his breath about what he's going to have done to the vandal. Doc presumes that none of them can hear him, but in reality, they can hear every single word.

Makes Lightning McQueen quiver in his tires.

Doc Hudson mounts the platform at the judge's bench in the courtroom. It rises to the height where he can be seen by the entire court and has a good view over everyone.

Doc Hudson glances at the defense and abruptly cuts off, breath hitching as he freezes. Maybelline's eyes rapidly travel back and forth between the two individuals as her father stares at the race car in stunned silence.

Doc Hudson has one thing to say and one thing only.

"Throw him out of here, Sheriff. I want him out of my courtroom. I want him out of our town," said Doc Hudson, steely, banging his gavel decisively. "Case dismissed."

Shocked and outraged murmurs break out throughout the courtroom.

Grinning, Lightning McQueen said "Yes!"

Quite proud of himself in spite of not actually doing anything, Mater said "Boy, I'm pretty good at this lawyering stuff."

Appears like Lightning McQueen is about to get off scot-free.

Not if Sally has anything to say about it.

Late to the proceedings, Sally arrives seconds after the verdict is spoken. Lightning McQueen hits on her as she passes him by on the way to where the prosecuting party is supposed to stand, but she doesn't pay him any mind. When she learns about Doc's decision from Maybelline, she most certainly has something to say about this cocky insurgent.

"Doc, you look great this morning. Did you do something different with your side view mirrors," inquired Sally, pleasantly.

Rolling his eyes, Doc Hudson said "What do you want, Sally?"

Dropping the act, Sally sighed "Come on. Make this guy fix the road. The town needs this."

No. I know his type. Racecar," said Doc Hudson, contemptuously. "That's the last thing this town needs."

"Okay, I didn't want to have to do this, Doc, but you leave me no choice," said Sally, turning on her wheels to address those in the courtroom. "Fellow citizens, you're all aware of our town's proud history."

Oh, so she's going to pull that card, is she?

"Here she goes again," muttered Doc Hudson.

"Radiator Springs, the glorious jewel strung on the necklace of Route 66, the mother road! It is our job and our pleasure to take care of the travelers on our stretch of that road," reminded Sally.

"Travelers? What travelers," demanded Sarge, snidely.

"Ignore him," drawled Fillmore, lazily.

"But how, I ask of you, are we to take care of those travelers if there is no road for them to drive on? Luigi, what do you have at your store," asked Sally.

"Tires," said Luigi, flexing his own.

"And if no one can get to you," said Sally.

"I won't sell any tires. I will lose everything," said Luigi, drooping sadly as his partner and friend Guido bumped him in the side door to console him.

"Flo, what do you have at your store," said Sally.

Rolling forward, Flo said "I have gas. Lots of gas."

Mater and Flo's husband Ramone burst out laughing at the unintended pun.

"Okay, boys stay with me. And, Flo, what'll happen if no one can come to your station to buy gas," said Sally.

"I'll go out of business and we'll have to leave town," said Flo, crestfallenly.

"And what's going to happen to all of us if Flo leaves town and closes her station," said Sally, raising her voice to be heard by all.

"Without gas, we're done for!"

"So don't you think the car responsible should fix our road," challenged Sally.

"The only guy strong enough to be able to fix that road is Big Al," said Lizzie, the oldest resident in Radiator Springs.

"Lizzie, Big Al left like, 15 years ago," said Ramone.

"Then why are you bringing him up, you lemon," said Lizzie, absentmindedly.

"Oh, he can do it. He's got the horsepower. So, what do you want him to do," said Sally, riling everyone up and mustering their support.

Got to admire Sally's candor.

"Fix the road!"

Maybelline shouts the words alongside everyone else. Flinching in place as her father's reproachful and reprimanding gaze snaps over to her.

"Because we are a town worth fixing," exclaimed Sally, passionately.

"Yeah!"

Honking his horn to restore order, Doc Hudson said "Order in the court! Seems like my mind has been changed for me."

The crowd erupts into delighted cheers.

Rounding furiously on Sally, heatedly, Lightning McQueen said "I am so not taking you to dinner."

Shrugging coyly, unbothered by the lost prospect, Sally chuckled "That's okay, Stickers. You can take Bessie."

"Bessie. Who in the world is Bessie," said Lightning McQueen, confused.

Lightning McQueen is in for it with Bessie.

Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.

So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.

I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
