Kagome dragged a hand through her hair. "Do you even know how humans propose to each other?"
"Why would I need to know that?"
She was starting to get frustrated. Had he been this obtuse from the start, and she'd just ignored it in favour of having someone choose her? "Understanding your mate is a big part of making sure your relationship lasts. If you don't take the time to get to know them beforehand, how can you claim you love them?"
The trio was still listening, though they were acting as oblivious as they could, Inuyasha going as far as to prod the burning logs with a stick. She doubted Kouga even remembered they were there. "What else do I need to know? You're beautiful, powerful, and are great with kids."
Kagome took a calming breath. "What's my favourite food? Favourite tea blend? Am I allergic to anything? How many layers do I need in the winter?"
Kouga shrank with each question, eventually crossing his arms. "I don't need to know any of that. You can just buy all that stuff yourself. You bein' independent is one of the reasons we work so well."
"What's the best herb to cure a cold? Humans require different healing procedures than youkai Kouga-kun. What if I was too sick to find it myself? Or even speak?" She took a step toward him, eyes blazing. "What if I was feeling sad and needed a pick-me-up? Which flower would you bring me?"
Kouga opened his mouth, but they both jumped when a sprig of lavender was thrust in her face. Kagome blinked in surprise, Shippou grinning up at her. "We're back!"
