*POV ROSE*
The flight to Alaska takes forever. Maybe I should've just ran here. I'll have to hunt the minute we touch down. I called Tanya ahead of time to let her know I'm coming to bring Alice home. I got worried when she said she hasn't seen Alice since she went up to Mount Hunter. I let out the breath I was holding when she stated that her and the others have run patrol just to make sure they didn't smell Jasper around. Unfortunately, Fort Yukon airport was the closest I could get to Denali, and it would be another 3-hour run after this flight. 4 if you count the hunting I would have to do. I sit back and do my best to relax sitting in this tin can of humans.
After the longest flight of my life, I set foot in Alaska. I walk out the airport and look around to make sure no humans are looking as I take off through the woods. I hunt down 2 grizzly bears; I'll make sure to let Emmett know. They're his favorite. I circle around the Denali's house, making sure myself that Jasper is nowhere near. I smell her before I hear her.
Rose: Tanya… thank you for joining me.
Tanya: of course. Anything to keep my favorite cousins safe. Want to come back to the house and tell us what's happen. I don't think we know the whole story, just the key points. Come let's talk before I show you where Alice went to.
We don't have time, but they need to understand things for us to continue having their support. After about an hour, everyone is caught up on the story of Alice, Bella and Jasper.
Eleazar: a wolf? Alice mated with a child of the moon?
Garrett: no, real children of the moon don't imprint. They just go for whoever they want. They must be some other type of wolf.
Rose: yes, it's more like tribal magic. And Alice still doesn't know about the imprint. Bella didn't want her to feel like she had to be with her just because of the imprint.
Carmen: she wanted her to fall in love, how romantic.
Tanya: very. Hope I get to meet her one day.
Rose: I hope so too, we have to get Alice back to make sure Bella makes it long enough. Now please, show me the way.
Carmen grabs my hand and runs out the house. Not waiting on the others. She was always a romantic. Of course she'll be the first one to help. We stop at the base of the mountain. She tells me the section they last smelled her scent. I pick it up easily. It's extremely faint but Alice is family. I easily climb up the side of the mountain, I spot two packs of grey wolves as I go. Clearly the reason she was drawn here. Her scent gets stronger the closer I get. It carries me to a small cliff, and I spot her right away, sitting on the edge. Not wanting to scare her, I slowly walk to the side.
Alice: you can just come out Rose. I smelt you from halfway up. I promise I won't run.
Rose: Alice, please come home.
She doesn't say anything as I slowly approach the cliff. Though she promised not to run, I still don't want to risk it. I sit down next to her; she turns to me for a second and I'm finally able to really see her. If I thought Bella looked bad, Alice looks worse. I see cracks around her neck and her eyes are pitch black.
Rose: how long has it been since you hunted Alice?
Alice: I don't know… There's nothing but wolves up here and well, I couldn't.
Rose: hmmm. I'll be right back. Just please don't move.
I rush back down the mountain grabbing the first bear I could find. I snap its neck and carry it back up the mountain with me. I drop it on the ground, but she makes no move to turn back to it.
Rose: Alice drink. We have something serious to talk about and you need to have a clear head.
I use my nail to cut a slit in its neck, knowing the smell of blood would be what draws her in. As soon as she starts feeding, I run back down to get another one for her. Taking it back up and doing the same. I get ready to run for a 3rd, but she stops me. I throw both bears down the mountain and sit down in front of her. I'm sure one of the packs will eat them. We sit in silence for a few hours. The sun starts going down around us. Not wanting to scare her, I wait and let her speak first. I know now that she's fed, her mind will be clearer, and she just needs a minute to get her thoughts together.
Alice: I'm sorry I haven't gone back yet. I just really needed some time to think.
Rose: Alice, we all understand that. But you could've at least called or text. We've all been worried sick. If it wasn't for Esme calling Tanya, we wouldn't have known anything.
Alice: I couldn't. I would've gone back the second any of you asked me to. Rose, everything I've known for years now, everything has been a lie. How can I just move on from that?
Rose: not everything you've known. Just everything with Jasper. Alice, we're still your family. We still love you just the same. Our feelings have always been true and your feelings for us have always been true. Never question that please.
Alice: how can I know that? He's been manipulating my feelings since the day he met me. We met before the family.
Rose: he has but Alice, he's clearly not as strong as you think he is. He was only strong the other day because he was feeding on humans. You've never fully given in to him. If you had, you guys would've been together by now. He's never been able to take you away from us…. Till now. He made you go thousands of miles away from your family. Don't forget, you're my favorite sister. My shopping buddy. Who will I complain to about Emmett? Why did you come all the way up here?
Alice: I needed to get away. I needed to clear my head… and my heart.
I look over the cliff. Spotting some more grey wolves.
Rose: clear your heart huh? Alice, why haven't you reached out to Bella?
Alice: Bella…
Rose: she's hurting you know?
Alice: Bella… my feelings for her are so confusing Rose.
Rose: so confusing or so simple that they scare you?
Alice: don't start. I'm still working through my feelings period.
Rose: you haven't been seeing things in Forks?
Alice: no, my visions would've gotten in the way of my feelings, so I've been stopping them. Plus, with me not feeding, they weren't coming.
Rose: so, you haven't seen anything in Forks?
Alice: no.
Rose: you should look, just for a second, check in on everyone.
Alice: I don't think I'm strong enough yet. Oh, and Rose, you have Edward to complain too. But you're my favorite sister too.
I see the cracks on her neck have healed a little bit. Not much but a little. I'm sure her mind is working at the same pace. I wonder if she's healing slower because of the imprint.
Rose: whenever you're ready.
I get up to sit a little way away. She nods and we go back to our silence. We see the sun come up and she gets up to move closer to me. I reach out and hold her hand that's on the rock in between us. I know what she's about to see, will hurt her. She needs to know I'm here. Her eyes gloss over and I know she's watching.
Alice: I'm glad Edward and Jake are doing good. *I just nod my head* we should let Esme know she's going to win another award. Emmett plans to propose to you again for your birthday later. Don't tell him I told you.
She comes out of the vision, and I wait awhile. Thinking she'll jump back into it.
Rose: Alice…
Alice: I don't think I can. A part of me wants to, but something deep in me hurts when I think about her.
Rose: Alice, you have to. Me telling you is… you just have to see.
She takes a deep unnecessary breath and lets her eyes gloss back over.
Alice: Bella… Rose what the hell?!
Rose: what did you see?
Alice: she looks horrible. Is she sick?
Rose: she's dying Alice.
She doesn't say anything, she jumps off the cliff and takes off down the mountain. I jump off after her.
Alice: why didn't you tell me?!
She growls at me.
Rose: why didn't you come back home? Or at least called?!
Alice: Rosalie Lillian Hale! Right now, is not the time. What happen?
I don't answer her, I run ahead faster to her car.
*POV ALICE*
Bella's dying and I'm not there. I didn't see it. I wasn't there to stop it. When the words came out of Rose's mouth, my un-beating heart, shattered to a million pieces. How could I not have known this was happening. Rose is driving as fast as the car allows but it doesn't feel fast enough. I call Charlie, Leah and Jake but there's no answer. I call Esme and she only tells me to make it back as soon as I can. I try over and over again to look for Bella's future, but I can't find it. It's all black. I don't think about anything besides Bella. I replay every second spent with her. Replay everything she's ever said. Everything she's shown me. Seeing her wolf for the first time. After what feels like forever, we finally make it to Forks. When Rose turns to go to our house, I look at her like she's crazy. I reach for the door, but Rose grabs me.
Rose: we have a dance to get to.
Alice: what the hell you mean? We need to go to Bella. I need to get to Bella.
Rose: Bella made a little bit of a comeback. She will be at the dance. She'll be waiting for you. And DONT you go looking.
She lets me go and I sit back in my seat. When we pull up to the house, Esme runs out and pulls me into a hug.
Esme: don't ever leave again! If you do, you better call! Be happy Rose went and not me. I would be whooping your ass all the way back home.
Alice: I know mom… I'm sorry. I promise it won't happen again.
She hugs me tight, and I love it. I wonder if my human mom was like this. If she wasn't, it's ok because I now have Esme.
Esme: better not. Now go upstairs and get dressed.
Alice: why is Bella even at the dance?
Esme: she promised you she would go and that's what she's doing. Edward is helping her. Now go on, Rose will help you.
I try looking Bella, but Rose hits me before I can fully enter the vision.
Rose: do NOT, she can't see you so you can't see her. You'll see her at the dance. Now come on, the sooner you get dressed the sooner we can get to the dance. You can see her in person.
I glare at her but rush upstairs and her smell hits me the minute I open my door. It's strong and faint at the same time. My bed is messy, and I figure she must have slept here at one point. I straighten out the bed before going to get my dress. I hang it on my closet door before rushing to take a shower. Looking down at the shower floor, I see all the dirt that falls and flushes down the drain. When I get out, Rose is waiting on the bed. Already dressed and with her hair pinned up. She looks at my dress and back at me.
Rose: come on, we're wasting time. Everyone else is already there.
I slip my dress on, put on my heels and she helps me fix my hair down and curve around my face. She's been watching Friends again. With one last look in the mirror, we head downstairs. Esme and Carlisle are waiting for us like proud parents. Carlisle hugs me close, tells me to never do it again and tells me I look beautiful. They tell us to have fun as we leave out and get in Rose's car. I'm anxious as we drive to the school. If I was human, my heart would be beating out of my chest. Would she be mad at me for not being here for her? Would she even talk to me? What's wrong with her, I thought wolves couldn't get sick. What could cause all this? So many questions and no one will tell me. I look over at Rose, but she has an unreadable face. The tightness that's been in my chest since I left, lessens the closer we get to the school. As we pull up into the school, I see Bella's car. She kept her promise to me, and she also kept the one to Jess.
Rose: enjoy the dance, have the talk after.
I look at her waiting for more, but she doesn't say anything, just heads for the gym. I've been wishing for the last hour to have Edward's gift. I walk slowly, taking an unnecessary breath. I smell her before I even get to the door. Her smell is a little off, but I know it's because of whatever is wrong. Then I hear the song as I pull open the door,
There I was again tonight, forcing laughter, faking smiles.
Same old tired, lonely place, walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy.
I see Edward and Jake at the DJ booth, but my eyes only look for her. Our eyes meet and I can't stop the pull I feel to be next to her. I see the dark bags under her eyes. Her skin doesn't hold the tan glow it always had. She's lost a few pounds but still tone. A smile lights up her face. She looks so good in her suit. All white with a light grey tie, the exact color of my dress. I feel the knot in my stomach as she walks towards me. She reaches out a hand and I put mine in hers. She easily pulls me to her. I feel the tingles all over my body as if nothing ever happen. I feel the heat coming off her, it's hotter than normal and I wonder if it's her sickness. I run through every human disease I can think of, without knowing every symptom I can't narrow it down. Even with my heels, I still come up about 2 inches shorter than her. She puts one arm around my waist, while holding my hand in the other.
Bella: This night is sparkling, don't you let it go. I'm wonderstruck, blushing all the way home. I'll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you. The lingering question kept me up, 2 AM, who do you love?
Alice: I didn't know you could sing.
Bella: I'm full of surprises.
Alice: I see… Bella, I…
Bella: later. I want to enjoy this moment.
I don't say anything else as she pulls me closer, she leads while we sway to the music. She starts humming the song in my ear and I close my eyes, enjoying the moment as she said. Another song plays but we don't part.
Bella: I've missed you.
Alice: I know. I've missed you too. Rose said…
Bella: I'm feeling better now.
Alice: what happen Bella?
Bella: we can discuss that later. I promise.
I don't say nothing else. I close my eyes and lay my head against her shoulder. Taking in her scent that I've missed so much. Listening to her heartbeat that became one of my favorite sounds. It's not beating out of her chest like mine would. It's a nice peaceful beating. The one she has normally as she sleeps. Ed Sheehan "Kiss Me" starts playing and she starts humming in my ear again. The non-existing butterflies start going crazy.
Bella: settle down with me. And I'll be your safety, you'll be my lady. I was made to keep your body warm but I'm cold as the wind blows, so hold me in your arms… my heart's against your chest. Your lips pressed to my neck. I'm falling for your eyes, but they don't know me yet.
She pulls back to look me in my eyes. I know the lyrics that are about to come but I don't expect the feelings following them. It's like the tingles multiplied by a million. Millions of butterflies fighting to come out.
Bella: And with this feeling I'll forget. I'm in love now. Kiss me like you wanna be love. You wanna be loved. You wanna be loved.
She closes her eyes and lays her forehead against mine.
Bella: This feels like falling in love. Falling in love. Falling in love….
It does… without thought, I press my lips against hers. And I feel it. My heart does something it hasn't done since I was human. It beats. I pull back gasping at what I just heard and felt happen. Her eyes have darkened, and my lips have instantly missed hers. She doesn't say anything she just pulls me in again. This time her tongue slides against my bottom lip, asking for permission. I open my lips slightly and our tongues meet, deepening the kiss. As if my arms have a mind of their own, they wrap around her neck, running through her hair and she pulls me closer to her. Our bodies pressed as close as they can be. Her lips feel like heaven. The heat coming off of them, warm my cold lips. Her body WAS made to keep my body warm. The taste of her tongue, sweeter than any blood I've ever had. I feel her harden next to my stomach. Her body's reaction makes my venom pool into my mouth. For a second, I wonder if it will harm her, I know we're deadly to the wolves. But remembering Jake and Edward have been a thing and Jake is more than ok, I don't stop exploring her mouth. I have to stop the moaning I feel wanting to come out. My heart beats again. And again. As confusing as this is and as much as I want to know what's happening, I don't want to pull away from her. She pulls away, clearly as confused as me.
Bella: Alice is that?
Alice: I think so.
Bella: what does that mean?
Alice: I don't know.
Bella: Alice…
Alice: I don't regret nothing. If everything that happened, happen to bring us to this moment. I'm glad it did. I'm sorry for any hurt I caused you. I'm sorry for not accepting my feelings before. I'm sorry for taking so long to do that.
Bella: it was worth the wait.
She pulls me into another kiss, but we're interrupted by Edward, with Jake, Rose and Emmett beside him.
Edward: I hate to break this apart. Truly I do. But we need to know what's happening. Plus, you two are close to taking off your clothes in front of everyone.
Bella glares at him for interrupting.
Edward: Bella if something's wrong, we need to know.
She looks between me and Edward, worry lacing her face. It upset me that he made her worry. She doesn't say anything but pulls me close to her side.
Bella: Jake, can you call…
Jake: I already did. They'll meet us at the Cullens.
I look at Bella and her eyes are shining brighter than ever. Her dark bags are gone, and her skin is glowing again. She's looking like my Bella again. Only with a glow to her eyes. My Bella.
